Hello y'all, things are gonna slightly pick up a bit from here on out. I'm planning on the battle trials only being focused on this chapter with a bit of mystery about who won and lost which would be revealed later. Hope you like it!
TIMESKIP: NEXT DAY
LOCATION: 1-A CLASSROOM
'You really wouldn't think this is a hero school if you were only here for the first half of the day', Hitoshi spun a pencil on his desk, waiting for the Foundational Heroics teacher to show up. The second day of school had started like normal; a bit too normal for his taste. They had English with Present Mic, which was arguably his best subject, Ectoplasm taught Math, Aizawa and another teacher would fill in for his current class, Midnight for Modern Art History, an odd pair, really; and Cementoss instructed them in Modern Literature.
The lackluster classes started the day, and at the end of it, the reason for them being here, Foundational Heroics. Right now, they were sat rather impatiently for the teacher to join the hobo that was called his father at the podium. Guesses of who was going to join them for the most anticipated class were slung across the room at a runners pace. Thankfully, they didn't have to wait any longer. A voice well known by all in the classroom rung out.
"I AM HERE! COMING THROUGH THE DOOR LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!" All Might said, standing in the door in the most abnormal way he could. Some of the other students noticed this discrepancy, snorting and giggling with varying levels of amusement.
The large built made strode to the podium, taking his place beside his colleague. Aizawa pulled a card from somewhere, it read "battle" in big, bold letters.
"Today we'll be doing a mini tournament of sorts, but before I explain further, you all need your costumes." As he finished his sentence, All Might pushed a button on a remote that was comically small in his over-sized hand.
The room filled with the cheers of the students, each one getting out of their seats and clamoring towards the numbered cases that were now sticking out of the wall.
"Oh, and meet us in Gym Gamma when you're done changing."
LOCATION: GYM GAMMA
Izuku and his class walked into the gym, seeing his teachers standing in front of an outlined space in the shape of a square. All Might seemed to scan the class's choice of dressing, and his smile widening further.
"They say that the clothes make the hero. Might I add that you all look the part!" He exclaimed.
Izuku's costume consisted of a white, high-collared trench coat that went a little past his mid-thigh with gold lining it. This covered a black compression shirt with some sturdy but flexible padding for protection. He wore some slightly baggy, black combat pants tucked into knee-high, white combat boots. There was a four-pointed, yellow star on the back of his trench coat, and a yellow utility belt strapped to his waist. It contained some medical supplies and other miscellaneous items that would be useful in the field. To complete the outfit was a metallic mask that served as both a re-breather and a gas mask.
Hitoshi rocked a deep purple, almost black jumpsuit similar to Aizawa's. He had a black capture scarf wound around his neck and an extendable bow staff holstered onto a black utility belt. A black mask poked out from below his capture scarf. It had the same qualities as Izuku's, but was also a voice modulator that would help with his quirk. It was simple, but efficient, which is what he was going for.
Inasa was dressed in the same fashion to Shinsou, but was still different in his own way. On his head sat a military style cap with a tornado insignia on it. A tan, tight-fitting jumpsuit lined with armor in the most important places. He didn't want to get a surplus of it. This was mostly due to his need to be as light as possible so his quirk wouldn't be overused. An idea proposed to him by his best friend. Though, in his mind, that wasn't really satisfying to him. The rest of his costume was composed of a brown bomber jacket with pockets for days, and combat boots that were a shade darker.
The rest of the students costumes were either focused on utility and maximizing the effectiveness of their quirks or purely for fashion purposes. Ashido's being a clear example of the latter.
"All right, today will be 2-on-2 battles. You and your partner are to incapacitate the opposing team within 10 minutes or less. You'll also have 5 minutes of prep time before that." Aizawa drawled. All Might continued after him, "We'll be deciding your partners by drawing lots", before the blonde giant could finish, he was interrupted.
"Sir! Is that really the best way to evaluate who our teammates will be?" Iida asked rather earnestly, his arm shooting up like a rod. Before the boy could continue his rapid fire questions, Izuku interjected, "Actually, this is the perfect way to simulate real hero fights. When villain attacks are so prominent, it's likely pros won't get to pick and choose who they work with best, and have to team up on the fly."
"Midoriya is correct, that being said are there any more questions that anyone wants answered." Aizawa immediately regretted asking when the class sent a wall of noise in the form of questions at him. At that moment, he really wanted to be holed up in his sleeping bag.
From there, the teams were formed without issue. Of course this was only after the kids were satisfied with the answers they'd been given.
Team A-Mashirao Ojira and Kirishima Ejiro
Team B-Yaoyorozu Momo and Ashido Mina
Team C-Yoarashi Inasa and Koda Koji
Team D-Bakugou Katsuki and Mineta Minoru
Team E-Midoriya Izuku and Jirou Kyoka
Team F-Shinsou Hitoshi and Kaminari Denki
Team G-Todoroki Shouto and Uraraka Ochako
Team H-Shoji Mezo and Tsuyu Asui
Team I-Tokoyami Fumikage and Aoyama Yuga
Team J-Sato Rikido and Sero Hanta
"Now that the teams have been made, we'll move on to the battles. The first ones going up will be Teams I and C!" All Might yelled, putting a bit of flare to his statement by striking a pose. This made some of the students cheer, while others stewed in their excitement. His co-teacher, on the other hand, wasn't all-too-amused.
"Your prep time is up. Begin in 3,2,1, GO!"
At the signal, a shadow in the vague shape of a bird burst from Tokoyami's mid-section, aiming for Koda right off the bat. Inasa sent a decently powered gust towards the sentient shadow, causing it to be momentarily stunned. Capitalizing on the opportunity, Inasa built up one of his larger blasts. That was until a beam of blue light nearly speared him in the leg. He was moving out of the way, but he wasn't fast enough, receiving a slightly deep incision on thigh.
With dark shadow finally recovering, they continued their charge towards the now defenseless Koda, launching the boy a good few feet out of the ring. The stocky boy let out a low groan, telling the spectators he was alright before getting to his feet and walking over to his class.
Inasa cradled his body with wind, lifting himself off the ground. There was no way, he would be able to move as freely with the leg injury. He shot himself towards the culprit of his hindered movement, dodging any attacks dark shadow threw at him. This was, of course, at the cost of a few more lacerations from the shots fired at him by Aoyama.
"Aoyama, get out of the way!" Tokoyami shouted, finally understanding what the opponent had been planning. It came too late though; as he'd said that, Inasa cleared the remaining distance between himself and his target. He curled his fingers into the gaps of the blonde's armor, and spinning midair, threw the boy out of the ring. Said boy landed in a rather unflattering manner, hitting the ground face first.
Tokoyami cursed under his breath, but also winced in sympathy for his fallen comrade. He took the opening given to him, running towards the boy while dark shadow came in from the opposite side. Inasa finished his spin, immediately angling himself so the opponent is in his line of sight. To his credit, the teen realizes Tokoyami's ploy, stealing a quick glance behind him. Sure enough, the sentient being is racing toward him without abandon.
The two continue to get closer, and just as the raven-headed boy is about to reach Inasa, the tall boy spun once more. The winds pick up, lifting both into the air. The only difference is Tokoyami being subsequently thrown out of the ring by the heavy buffets of the mini tornado. The localized natural disaster dissipates, leaving a green-faced boy barely standing.
"Both Aoyama and Tokoyami are out of the ring, Team C is the victor!" All Might exclaimed, his fisted hands on his hips. Tokoyami got up from the ground, rubbing his head slightly. He fell into step with his former still green faced opponent.
"You performed admirably in the battle and were a truly formidable foe", the teen said. Inasa only managed a shaky thumbs up and a weak smile. The two lined up beside their respective partners, who were standing in front of the teachers.
"Who do you think was the MVP of this match?" Aizawa asked, head poking out from the sleeping bag he surely didn't have on his person previously. Two arms shot up at the same time. One belonging to Izuku and the other, Yaoyorozu. They locked eyes, and as if deciding fate, they slowly lowered their hands.
"Rock", Izuku said.
"Paper", Yaoyorozu continued.
"Scissors!" They shouted in unison.
Izuku cheered, him having chosen paper which beat his competitor's rock. He turned back to All Might beginning his explanation.
"The title of MVP should go to Tokoyami. This is due to the fact that not only did he manage to decrease the amount of opponents almost immediately, but also his attention to his opponent and his teammate. Aoyama may have provided some support, but most of the responsibility of battling Inasa fell to his partner. Koda wasn't able to do much because he was outmatched and also didn't possess the right set of skills to defend himself adequately." The following silence that he was met with caused him to fidget slightly.
"I couldn't have said it better myself, Young Midoriya! You were also correct in your assessment. Excellent analysis!" The man internally sweat dropped at the amount of information the boy had spewed without having to breathe. 'The kid makes me feel a bit uneasy, there's no way I would've said that much'. Clearing his throat, Aizawa called out for the next two teams.
It went on like this for the duration of the period. With Team F facing off against Team B. Yaoyorozu and Ashido sadly losing. Due to their lack of information on Shinsou's quirk, Yaoyorozu had responded without thinking. She promptly fell under the effects of brainwash and captured Ashido with an acid proof net, then Kaminari knocked them out with his electricity.
Team A and H was a rather close match. Seeing as all of the ones participants were all physical fighters, with advantages lying in vaguely similar fields, neither team had the upper hand. The match eventually went to Shoji and Asui, due to his physcal strength and her great mobility, which Ojiro could barely match.
The only other note worthy matches were the ones that included Team E, D, J, and B. All flashy to some degree in their own right.
"Today has been an eventful one, with trials and errors. Those who one, great job!" All Might held out a thumbs up before continuing, "For the non-victors, learn from this experience, expand your horizons, and use it to improve yourselves. With all that being said, watch how the number one hero leaves." Without further preamble, the man disappears, as if never being there in the first place.
"Wow, he's fast." Hitoshi says, turning to Izuku, "We'd probably could never catch him if we tried."
"Nah, I would." Izuku responds without missing a beat. The indigo boy just stares at his friend. He had the feeling like something was just referenced.
