Chapter 3

Harry was shocked to see one of the people who made his life miserable and was about to punch him, but before reaching him he felt his entire body freeze. Emily fired a stunner at him to stop him from attacking Severus. Emily then knelt before and asked him to patiently listen to what they have to say instead of rushing into conclusions. But, when she released his mouth he started to rant,"You seriously think that this man, who always belittled me, begrudged me, saw me as the spawn of his old nemesis, kept having revenge on me for something I have no idea about and moreover let the only living family I had to death, is happy about he himself being able to protect me and you seriously think that I will accept it, then you better consult a mind healer".

Emily simply replied, "I do Harry, because I think you still remember the oath I gave you about saying only the truth to you. So, please give us a chance to explain".

Begrudgingly he allowed them to continue. Snape was the one who started with a similar oath. He then said, " Yes Harry, no matter what you think of me, I will always try to protect you. Now that may sound skeptical to you but it is the fact. And the reason why I'm doing it is not because of the life debt I owe to your father as Dumbles says, but it is because of your mother. Yes Harry, your mother was more than just a friend for me. I loved her Harry, I loved her more than anything in this world." Then he started to explain about his childhood, with his muggle father who abused both him and his mother who was a witch. Then how he met Lily who cared for him, even if his own housemates shunned him. How his scare of losing her, possessiveness and teenage lef him to call her a mudblood. How he tried to apologise for what he did, but realised he had lost his chance. How he realised how much she meant for him and how much he loved her. He always tried to blame Marauders and Lily for everything, while deep down he knew it was he himself who caused it. Lucius took advantage of this situation and manipulated him to join them as they needed his potion skills. In his rage and naivety he joined them. He always felt happy and sad at Lily's hurt look at seeing him with Lucius. He got more and more involved in their activities in the rage of seeing her relation with James. By the time they graduated he went on to become a full time potioner for death eaters. But as the time went on seeing and hearing what they where doing made him rethink and regret all his actions, starting from his actions towards Lily to him being the potioner of death eaters. He started to wish for a chance to right his wrongs and mend his friendship with Lily. But one day, Voldie forced him to Crucio and AK a muggle or himself get killed. Not wanting to get killed he begrudgingly did it. What shocked him was to get Dark Marked ending every chances he had to leave and mend his friendship with Lily.

He went Hogshead to clear his head of the act he committed, where he saw Dumbles and a young Sybil Trelawney who came for an interview. He was not at all in a mood to check what was happening. But out of a sudden, Trelawney gave out a prophecy, " The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies...", but Abe spotted him at the moment and threw him out of the bar. Shocked by what he heard he was in a dilemma what he should do. He can reveal this to Voldie to get a pardon and get out of deatheaters, but he wasn't a cold hearted person to a let an innocent child die for his freedom and if this prophecy is true this can permanently free him from the burden. So he decided to not reveal this and went back to the lair. But, fate was against him as an impatient Voldie was waiting for him their. A spy of Voldie was following Dumbles, but lost track of him near 3 broomsticks. When he heard a commotion near Hogshed, he saw Snape being thrown out and when he went to check it he saw Dumbles coming out of Hogshead and apparating away. The spy went straight to Voldie informed him about it. Knowing that his occlumency was still on bsic level and Voldie will go to any extent to get the information, defeatedly he gave the information. Voldie gets shocked and enraged by this revelation and order his men to find about all the kids who were to be born at the end of July as there is only one week left in July. They all waited for the week expecting for the news. Snape was secretly wishing for that there be no child that met this criteria. But the news he got devastated him further more. Not only that there were two kids, but one of the two kids that were born at the end of July was Lily's son, Harry. He was so shocked that he didn't even knew that the meeting was dismissed. When he came back to his senses, his first thought was to beg Voldie to spare Lily's family, but decided against it as he knew what his reaction is going to be. But he needed to do something. He thought for long and decided to contact Dumbles. Though a bit skeptical about him and his manipulative nature, he revealed everything happened to Dumbles. He can actually see the man trying to manipulate and guilt trip him into being one of his supporters and to work for him. Though he said he will support him and do what is necessary, he very well knew he was being shifted from one dark lord to a light lord.

Upon returning his home after his home, he saw someone has broken into his house. Cautiously, he entered into the house and searched until he reached the hall were he saw a woman in muggle dress sit in the middle. He immediately recognised her. She was Emily Jackson, Ravenclaw Muggleborn, 2 years junior to him. They hadn't even talked to each other in Hogwarts and seeing her here intrigued him and started to question her. She stood up and introduced herself as a MI-M agent kept in undercover surveillance duty to follow you and seeing his recent activities, including the meeting with Dumbles, she did get an idea that he might defect to their agency. She then explained about the agency and even disclosed the idea MI-M had of recruiting him after his OWLs, but rejected it after his sudden friendship towards Lucius Malfoy. Snape was skeptical about it and asked for proof for which she gave a similar oath she gave to Harry. Being a bit relaxed he asked what do they want from him, for which she replied to work for them atleast till the war is over and after that he can leave. They won't come back after him or harm him until he tries to betray them and that if he is ready to work for them, he is to work as a spy within the Deatheaters and pass the required information, so they could stop further attacks. He asked for some time and she said she will be back here same time tomorrow. He knew he can't back from Dumbles, as it will cause issues, but he also didn't want to drop MI-M offer as he felt that he can actually make a change and he felt Dumbles can be manipulating him for his needs.

So, he took the offer and he successfully passed Intel to both Dumbles and MI-M, which he had already informed MI-M. He was able to thwart many attacks with Emily's and MI-M's help and he also obsereved that not only Dumbles team was making any progress, but lossing men because of their Non-Lethal only policy, which he felt extremely stupid. During these missions and dead drops Snape and Emily became friends. It was near to June 1981 that they started to face some issues with their missions. It was like they were expecting them to attack and were ready with all kinds of measures. Feeling suspicious about it, he gave the information only to MI-M, who successfully completed the mission led him to the suspicion that there is mole in OOTP. Emily confirmed his suspicion as per the information from an MI-M agent within the OOTP. But Dumbles didn't take it seriously as he was so confident that no one in OOTP will work for Deatheaters.

All those confidences were vapourised on 31st October 1981, when the mole betrayed the Potters and led Voldie to them. He only discussed his attack plan with a selected few, including Bellatrix who attacked Longbottoms three days after in the rage of her master's defat based on the intel leaked by Barty Crouch Jr. Potters death shattered Snape so much that, it even led him to believe that he was in a way responsible for their death. He wanted to take care of Harry. He can't let anything happen to him as there are still deatheaters around him. But, just as he expected Dumbles tried to guilt trip him into stay in Hogwarts as he still believed Voldie is not dead completely and that he will vome back and he will need Snape's help again. He shared this news with Emily who arranged a meeting with their Director M, who confirmed the story and asked him to take the job in Hogwarts that Dumbles offered and also become the Field Commander pf Hogwarts as he can be more close to Dumbles, keep an eye on wannabe deatheaters and recruit budding agents. When he said about his concerns about Harry, M pointed out Dumbles will not allow him to do that as he will lose his biggest bargaining chip. But, Emily did something of take the decision to select Harry as her asset for surveillence and promised to protect him. Which he happily accepted.

He then took the job in Hogwarts and became both the Potions master and MI-M field commander of Hogwarts. Dumbles insisted on him deliberately being biased towards Slytherins, antagpnosing other houses and restricting the OWL entry criteria, so that to a person who see it from outside, he would like an ex-deatheater trying get a revenge for his master, while Dumbles was actually trying to make everyone hostile towards Snape to make him a perfect puppet for him.

Hearing it all was extremely hard for Harry. He was still frustrated about the man's behaviour towards Harry, but also felt sympathy for a man who was desperately trying to right the wrongs he did.

Looking at his pocket watch, "I know there are still many things you need explanations but Dumbles will be here in one and a half hours. Something about Sirius' will reading. So we need to continue this discussion in the chamber."

Emily nodded and said,"Sev is right Harry. We need to get to chamber immediately. So please come with us."

Though he was bit hesitant, he still wanted more answers and he was sure they will not harm him. So he decided to go with them.

Emily warned him, "Harry I know your experience with portkeys, but unfortunately we have to do this". A bit scared, Harry took the hand Emily gave him, while she wrapped her other hand around her pendent and said, "Safe Haven". A sudden feel of a vaccum tube and they reached and enormous verandah of multi storeyed building. Snape arrived behind them. There was only one door in the floor. They went through the door and reached a reception. The receptionist allowed them to a door on her left. When they opened it, he saw a two staged center with people working, practicing on dummies, etc. Harry was watching it all enthisistically. Seeing it Emily smiled and said, "Welcome to the Mage House. The Headquarters of MI-M".
