Chapter 5

Snape and Emily were both really happy at Harry's decision. They indeed knew about Harry's skill, character and his experiences and were extremely interested in having him by their said. But they weren't going to manipulate, guilt trip or blackmail him into doing it, which is exactly what Dumbles did. After a moment of silence Snape started, "Is there anything else you wish to know from us? If that's all, we can move on to your training schedule and future plans".

"You said you were keeping an eye on all the things that happened in Hogwarts for the past 5 years. But, still we had to deal with all those issues. Why was that?" Harry asked.

Snape said, "To answer your first question, Yes Harry, I was keeping an eye on not only you, but other potential candidates as well. But, what's interesting about your past years is that, in my entire career as the Field Commander, I have never seen things like those in years before you came to Hogwarts. We were planning to give you some tests, but they were only like the ones we planned to give others as well. So, my guess is that there is a third party in this game, who wish to test your level and more specifically the level when you face Dark Lord himself. And I can think about one person who is capable of doing it. I think you know the answer."

Harry smirked and replied, "Albus Dumbledore".

"Exactly. It was his idea to bring the stone into castle. When inquired Dark Lord about, how he knew of the stone, he said some anonymous source sent him a mail about the stone being held at Vault 687, which I think is most probably Albus. When he thought it might a trap, he sent Quirell to check, it was also the day you came to Diagon Alley, I know you met him at Leaky." For which Harry nodded. "When Quirell confirmed it, he broke into Gringotts, but was late. When he suspected of Stone being in Hogwarts, because of Dumbles asking teachers to protect it, he started to make each one of them reveal it to him. When he thought you were interfering with his plans, he tried to attack you, like the broom incident. And I seriously think that Dumbles knew Quirell was Voldie. Not much but, I still know a bit that if anything of extreme dark signature enters the Hogwarts wards the Headmaster will be notified. Which I suspect would have also happened in your second and fifth year, when Ginny Weasley brought the diary and Umbridge brought the blood quills. Anyways, even if Dumbles went to London by broom, instead of apparation or floo to make you and Voldie aware that he is not there, so Voldie will make a move to get the stone and you will stop him. All those traps were designed for you three to pass. Seriously, a flying keys challenge for a master seeker, a wizard's chess for a chess prodigy and a potions puzzle for the brightest witch of her age."

"Now back to the matter, I was following you disillusioned all the time. I pulled Weasley out of the way of Queen sword, so that he didn't die. I waited till Granger move out of the potions room to follow you behind. She only met with Minerva and Filius when she came upstairs with Weasley. I was there in the final room watching your confrontation with Quirell, but I didn't had to interfere as you killed Quirell with your bare hands. When you fell unconscious I checked and when I was sure you were fine, I went back". Harry was shocked about what he heard. He always suspected Dumbledore knew everything and still didn't act accordingly. But, hearing that his suspicions were true was far more shocking.

Severus then went on with his accounts of the remaining years. In second year, he had suspected that the monster was basilisk by Christmas time itself, because of Colin and Justin's petrifications, fleeing spiders and dead roosters. When he informed his analysis to MI-M they asked him to wait until another attack occurs as they wanted to see what Albus was planning to do and if he didn't, the next day MI-M will get into action. When Hermione and Penelope Clearwater wear petrified, Snape informed MI-M, and they decided to send M-Squad in, even if it could blow their cover. But, before that Harry managed to kill the basilisk the next day itself and thereby the threat was neutralised.

On his third year, when Sirius managed to escape, they tried to contact him. But, because of his paranoia after the exposure to dementors, he tried to remain in shadows as he feared people may try to attack him or take him back to Askaban. Also, Sirius wasn't aware of the fact that Severus was also part of MI-M as they haven't worked together. On the day Harry confronted Sirius in Shrieking Shack, Severus didn't come due to Sirius'presence, but because of Peter's. He wanted capture Peter alive. But, unfortunately Harry knocked him out. By the time he was up Peter had already escaped. That was the first time in years he was sincerely in rage with Harry. Not wanting to blow his cover, he lie to Fudge about Sirius confounding them to make them believe that he was innocent. Dumbledore only used them to break Sirius out, because he can't afford losing Harry's trust and support and he needed a fighter like Sirius on his debt when the big fight comes. Severus was relieved when he heard from his boss, M that it was a good thing he didn't capture Peter, because if they have to kill the Dark Lord, he should have a body and inorder to do that he need a help, which Peter will provide.

On his fourth year, he got information from his old deatheater buddies that, they are planning to have an attack on Quidditch Worldcup. With that Intel, they were able to reduce the damage level. But, he didn't got any news about Dark Lord's ressurection from them, which got him to the conclusion that, he was doing it under cover. Bringing back the Triwizard Tournament was again Dumbledore's idea to both test Harry and also to give an opportunity to kidnap him and ressurect the Dark Lord. When Harry's name came out of the goblet, it became clear, what his plan was. Severus then went through past tournament documents and found out about all opportunities they had to kidnap Harry for the ritual. First was the Black lake. Severus was follow Harry under disillusion all the time but nothing happened. So he concluded it is going to be the Cup, as it is portkey, a small alteration can take the person to their desired location. When he found that ingredients for polyjuice potion was missing, he concluded the perpetuator was impersonating someone. The only person he observed drinking something frequently was Mad-eye Moody. When he confronted him regarding it in his own office, first he tried to deny it. When he doubted Harry heard the conversation, he called him in and even accused him of stealing the ingredients to remove the tail.

Later, Moody and said that he was Barty Jr. and what his plan was. Having got everything he needed, including that of the portkey, the ritual and the location, Snape passed the Intel to MI-M. There was already 2 MI-M agents under disillusion at Little Hangleton to make sure both the ressurection and Harry's safety aren't compromised. He placed a tracking charm on the Cup to make sure Harry reached the graveyard. He also was present in the Maze disillusioned, near the Cup to ensure that Harry and only Harry was transported and no collateral damages. He was grateful for making that decision when he saw Cedric coming for the Cup, he casted a silent stunner on him, preventing him from taking the Cup and getting killed in the middle of the ressurection fiasco. While interrogating Barty Jr., even if he knew Patronus, he held back from protect Barty from the dementor, as he was sure if he was further interrogated, he would blurt out Severus' name and blow his cover.

In his fifth year, Severus was back into his "Double Agent" job for both Deatheaters and OOTP. He shared Intel to both the parties in the way MI-M wanted him to. Luckily for them, Dark Lord wasn't planning any attacks now. He was merely into form allies and armies. The only major attack was the Askaban Breakout. As it was Ministry area, they can't act. They did the only thing they could. To send anonymous tips to Askaban. But, because of Fudge's paranoia, they didn't buy it and the breakout occured. MI-M also managed to get in contact with Sirius, which also led him to know that Severus was working for them. Though it was a bit awkward for them in the beginning, the went on to work together without much issues and even settled issues between them.

But, that year gave him some other unprecedented issues. First thing was Dolores Umbridge's presence as the Inquisitor. She was a concerned third party who wanted Dark Lord to come back and also to have Fudge as the Minister as he is both incompetent and can give her all the favours and powers she needed. Her mediaeval torture methods were making him sick. Even if couldn't stop it, he found a way to cure the one's she hurt. He made OWL students to create Essence of Dittany and Essence of Murtlap in ample amounts and also let them take theirs if needed, which was really helpful for them. He even prevented many of Umbridge's interviews using Veritaserum, by lying "out of stock".

Second headache was Dark Circle being reinstated. It was formed by Lucius Malfoy during First Dark War, when he was a student, as a group of promising Deatheaters to get more followers, tormenting and eliminating possible threats, getting more Intel, etc. It was disbanded since Dark Lord's fall on Hallows '81. When he ressurected it got reinstated. The members wore a Black coloured ring, which showed the date and time of the meeting (It reminded Harry much of their DA galleons). All of the members of Inquisitorial Squad were members of Dark Circle. There wasn't much for him to do as they were acting directly under Umbridge's or Dark Lord's orders.

When he Harry's connection to Dark Lord mind, he started suspect that it was not something simple. So when Dumbledore asked him to teach him Occlumency he agreed. Dumbledore was scared that Dark Lord will know about his plans and will use it against him. His first attempts were to check his suspicions regarding his connection and he was extremely shaken by the revelation, "There is a piece of the Dark Lord's soul in your scar Harry. It's small, which is why it hadn't possessed you yet. It is also the reason why you have the connection to Dark Lord's mind. Why you can speak Parseltongue."

Harry was paling and shaking at hearing the news. He had the soul of the man who killed his parents within him. What should he do now? How can he get rid of it? Seeing Harry's situation Snape said, "Don't worry Harry. We have contacts with goblins. They are experts in soul magic and we have used their help in past when our agents got possessed while dealing with dark objects. We will get it out of you Harry." This calmed Harry for a bit. Snape then continued his accounts. When he informed M about the soul piece, she asked him to not take any action on it. This irked both Severus and Sirius. But when she voiced her plan, they both begrudgingly agreed. She intended to not only remove it now and also she wanted Severus to halt from teaching Occlumency as she wanted Dark Lord to use the connection which will help MI-M to both expose him and and also get the prophecy and destroy it after hearing. When it became clear that Dark Lord was going for a full on attack on the Ministry, he and Sirius came up with this idea which he used to lure Harry into the Ministry. Though they can't say the mission was a complete victory because of Sirius'death and not able to get the prophecy's contents, atleast they achieve something. By the time he finished he was completely exhausted. There was a look of apprehension and fear in his face. It then became clear to Harry that he was scared of what Harry's reaction is going to be. He was scared that if Harry will see him as a monster.

Harry then said, "I don't what to think of most of the things you said. You have did many things that are still questionable. The old me would have said you shouldn't have. But now I know that there is no completely good or completely bad. I have seen the way this world works. Especially we as spies sometimes should do the dirty work for the right to win. So I don't see you as a monster Severus." He could actually see that there was a bit of tears forming in his eyes. "And you're not entirely true about the mission. We have the contents of the prophecy. When Dumbledore took me back to his office, he explianed to me how the prophecy was made, how it was you he told it to Tom, etc. Along with that he also showed me a memory of that event, from which I heard the prophecy and I remember it's contents. So, it was indeed "Mission accomplished"."
