Kit gets up the next day happier. Especially when he sees Tails. He waves to Tails, who shyly waves back. Someone he could perhaps trust. But before he eats lunch with his friend. He does his job which he enjoys just as much. Passing papers around he never knew could be so much fun. People appreciate him for it, he feels warm inside whenever someone thanks him and then he says your welcome back with no push back. Everyone values him. He has something to work for finally. Something to be of use to besides to Surge, he likes Surge but now he isn't only fighting for something else, he's helping himself. Even if it's with monotonous work.
When his break comes, Kit is sad to leave his comfortable position handing out papers but breaks are important and he wants to talk to Tails as well. He goes to the lunch room and gets his lunch. When Tails comes in Kit waves and directs Tails to himself. He smiles, while Tails looks nervous. Really nervous. They make some small talk. Mainly greeting and how and what they're doing today. Tails seems a bit more relieved and relaxed around Kit when they start talking to each other. That makes Kit happy. Really happy, with a weird feeling in his chest. But he ignores how weird it is.
"Sorry about pushing you to reveal your secrets about me yesterday." Tails says, Kit waves it off.
"It's fine… I… trust you." Kit manages to say, Tails smiles at the comment.
"I trust you too." Tails says, Kit turns a mild shade of red for a second before covering it up with his lunch.
"Thanks, so, um, what did you talk about at therapy?" Kit asks before realizing what he asked of Tails. "If your fine with telling me it." Kit then says.
"Just… respecting boundaries, you?"
"Trusting people besides Surge."
"Well, hey, you already have that down!"
"Thanks."
The two continue to have lunch together. Talking about meaningless things, yet Kit enjoys himself, maybe too much for a normal conversation. After they're done, Tails leaves, to invite someone to tell something. Kit wishes Tails luck, Tails then unexpectedly gives him a hug. Then Tails leaves, Kit waves goodbye to Tails with a big red blush on his face. Kit shakes it off and ignores all the feelings that came with that and goes back to his job.
Kit absolutely shouldn't feel as good as he does doing menial yet demanding labor. Yet he still enjoys it. He feels glad and happy inside. Maybe a bit too happy, but at least he can enjoy this job. He get assigned more tasks, such as handing out coffee and other items but other than that, papers, lots of papers. So many papers. He's surprised he doesn't mess them up. But he works efficiently and effectively. People thank him and that makes him feel nice.
He's sad when the day ends and he has to go back to his bunk. Such pointless labor yet it feels so fulfilling. He goes back, to find no Surge. But he knows she can handle herself and if anything went wrong. Someone would've told him, so he goes to sleep. Not waking up till the next morning for another day of surprisingly fulfilling work. He smiles and goes to sleep.
You think the second time would be easier. Yet it wasn't. More robots. It took a while to get through all of them. A long time but it went quicker with planning between the waves. Again, you would think Metal Sonic would be behind this again. Yet it's Dr. Eggman at the end of the rainbow. Surge scowles. Yet still makes a plan with Amy. Which they put into practice against the Doctor.
Who isn't caught off guard because of course he isn't. Amy and Surge attack from differing sides. But he dodges. Amy stops while Surge keeps going and knocks herself into a wall. Amy is then the focus of Eggman. Of course, Eggman beats her until Surge gets up, which then Surge finally gets herself out of the wall. Seeing Amy in the ground.
"Well, well, well, look who got redeemed after all." Eggman says. "All of you are the same, redeemed then against me, but at least this time it isn't my own creation that went against me."
"Who says I'm redeemed?" Surge says and proceeds to electrocute Eggman, which surprises him. The lightning short circuits his robot, of course he has his Egg Carrier. But Surge isn't done. Electrocuting that too and putting him on the ground. Helpless.
"C'mon, you really want to stay with them, with that sort of power you could be an excellent addition to my team."
"Naw, I'm gonna kill you instead" Surge charges up electricity in her hand, the doctor becomes scared for his life.
"Surge" Amy gets up and states. Surge looks at Eggman then her then Eggman then her again.
"Fine" she stops and walks over to Amy "what do we do with him instead?" Surge questions, Amy pulls out some handcuffs.
"Enjoy your new home Eggy!" Amy cheerfully says as Eggman is put into a prison awaiting trial.
"This is demeaning." The doctor says before being taken to a cell. Amy smiles at the doctors' imprisonment while Surge rolls her eyes at the fact she couldn't kill him.
"How long till he escapes?" Surge questions, Amy thinks for a second.
"A day or two, but we haven't captured him in a long time!" Amy cheers, which makes Surge happy enough.
"Alright, if you're happy, I'm happy." Surge says Amy looks shocked at the statement for a bit before saying Goodnight to Surge who says it back before returning to her own bunk to get some sleep.
She arrives to a sleeping Kit. She smiles at the adorable little fennec. Rubbing his ears. The ear twitches a bit and Surge smiles. She gets ready for bed. But can't really fall asleep. Why did she let Eggman go? Why did Amy convince her? Is this a good thing? She doesn't have an answer for the first two. But for the last one, she thinks, yes, it is good. She falls asleep. To wake up for another hopefully less eventful day.
