SINKING

"The turnout for this charity event is incredible!" David exclaimed as he savored a glass of sparkling white grape with his daughter. "I don't think we've ever had this many socialites and millionaires in one place before! Imagine the donations we'll get!"

"Hmm…" Melissa pointedly sipped her own glass, then asked, "Should I be worried about the League of Villains openly wandering around the upper floors?"

David Shield chuckled. "They're only actors, dear. We'll be putting on a show with All Might later."

"And the ferrokinetic wanted in sixteen countries? Wolfram, was it?"

"Also an actor."

"I wasn't aware that an acting career led to armed robberies and hostage situations."

David gave his daughter a firm hug around her shoulders. "Sweetie, I would never let anyone on this island without thorough background checks. You know that."

"And who did these background checks?"

"Samuel did! He was very helpful in finding them all."

"And you trust Samuel?"

"With my life!" He held out his glass, and Melissa reluctantly toasted it. "To the future! May it be a bright one!"

The island shuddered. The guests milled about in confusion, and one pointed at the windows in horror. Waves lapped against the glass, rising steadily higher, and the sunlight streaming through the windows took on a murky green tinge. Some started screaming and making phone calls, while the rest watched the rising waters with smiles on their faces.

Hidden among the guests, Wolfram felt the island sink as the air tanks keeping it buoyant took on water. He gave a sidelong look at Shigaraki. "This your doing?" he asked.

"Nope. Yours?"

"Nope. So, if you didn't do this, and I didn't do this, then who did?"

All the lights went out. Spotlights blared to life and swiveled towards the center stage. Sharply dressed in a black tuxedo, Rikiya Yotsubashi loomed over the guests and grinned.

"Gentlemen. Ladies. You are all here because you are the best of the best. The elites, the upper crust. Superior to all the rabble scrabbling for our loose change. Rabble that would see us subservient to them, that would take the fruits of our labor, the sweat off of our brows, and hand it to the poor!"

Yotsubashi paced the stage, swirling a wine glass in one hand. "Well, I say no more! Today marks the start of a new era! A new civilization! One where the strong prosper by their own merit, and the weak are left in their squalor to eke out a miserable existence! Down here, at the bottom of the ocean, no one may tell us what to do! No one may force us to bend to their self-serving morals and ideals by sheer numbers! No gods, no kings, only man!"

I-Island shuddered as it hit the bottom of the ocean. A passing whale eyed the sunken buildings.

"Ladies, gentlemen, welcome to Rapture."

Melissa raised an eyebrow at her father. David nervously chuckled and said, "A-all part of the event, sweetie!"

On a completely unrelated note, I just finished playing Bioshock today.
