RAKE

A brown, crinkly leaf fluttered in large, dancing swoops towards the ground. It landed with a gentle rustle amidst a lush cushion of grass. Izuku took a rake and smacked the ground hard enough to make the soil bounce like a trampoline. The leaf bounced back into the air, fluttered down in large, dancing swoops, and landed with a gentle rustle amidst a flattened plane of crushed grass.

Thump. Thump. Thump. Over and over, the leaf jolted back into the air and drifted down. Each abrupt ascension back from whence it came tore bits and pieces from its brittle form, until eventually, a pile of dust drifted away in the wind.

Izuku wiped beads of synthetic sweat off of their brow. "Discarded Foliage Item C-284 has been neutralized. Awaiting next discarded foliage."

Another leaf dangled off the end of a branch. Having seen the fate of its predecessor, the leaf clung to its withered branch, silently begging for mercy. The fall winds had none. With a firm tug, the wind bore the leaf aloft and deposited it directly at Izuku's feet.

Izuku hefted the rake like an executioner's ax. Discarded Foliage Item C-285 identified. Commencing termination protocols."

The leaf braced itself, but the blow never came. Instead, Izuku spun the rake overhead. Faster and faster it went, turning into a plastic blur. The wind whipped about in a circle, picking up speed, until a massive vortex churned around Izuku's feet. The swirling winds grazed the ground, sweeping the leaf back into the air and hurling it into orbit in a million pieces.

"Anomalous quantity of discarded foliage items detected," Izuku said. "Commencing troubleshooting protocols." Izuku spun in a circle, and synthetic eyes swept up and down. A leaf fluttered at their feet. "Retracing flight path." Their eyes zoomed up, until they beheld a massive oak tree. "Source identified. Commencing termination protocols."

Izuku dug the rake into the tree's roots and pulled. The entire tree tore out of the ground with a heartrending groan of wood and rustled dirt. Izuku shoved the entire tree into their mouth and shredded it like a woodchipper.

"Termination complete. Commencing diagnostic scan to verify resolution of discarded foliage abundance."

Another leaf drifted by. Izuku retraced its path and found an entire forest, painted in vibrant yellows and reds. Izuku swung the rake once, then sheathed it at their hip. Every tree in the forest toppled over, sliced at the trunk, then fell apart into neat bundles of firewood and vaporized leaves the moment they hit the ground.

"Termination complete. Commencing-"

Another leaf drifted by. Rockets sprouted from Izuku's shoes. They flew up and beheld entire continents of trees. Izuku hurled the rake into a volcano, setting off a chain reaction of volcanic events that blasted every tree on the planet into orbit.

"Diagnostic scan complete. No further discarded foliage present on Earth."

Another leaf drifted by. Izuku's eyes zoomed in on the distant stars, until they found another tree-populated planet.

"Commencing termination protocols."

Inko, seeing every tree in the world disappear, dialed up the world government and offered to sell the patent for synthetic trees.
