Ichigo and Grimmjow's clash shook the air like a thunderstorm, their combinedreiatsupressing down on me like a weight. I couldn't tear my eyes away. Ichigo was giving everything he had, every swing ofZangetsulaced with desperation and anger, but Grimmjow...
He was enjoying it.
"You're getting slower, Kurosaki!" Grimmjow taunted, blocking Ichigo's attack and shoving him backward with a casual flick of his blade. His sharp grin hadn't faltered for a second. "Don't tell me you're already tired? I thought you came here to save your little friend!"
"Shut up!" Ichigo roared, launching forward again.
I watched, my hands trembling on my sword. My heart raced with every strike, every crash, every yell. I wanted to help him, to dosomething, but the sheer difference in power was suffocating.
"Why is he so strong?" I whispered under my breath.
"It's because he's an Espada," Uryu said from beside me, his bow glowing faintly. He was breathing heavily, sweat beading his brow from fending off the lesser Hollows. "We have to trust Ichigo to handle him."
Chad nodded solemnly, his massive arm glowing faintly. "If he can't... we'll step in."
I swallowed hard, forcing myself to nod. But something wasn't right. I could feel it—Grimmjow wasn't fighting Ichigo seriously. He was holding back. Toying with him. And every now and then, his sharp blue eyes flickered toward me.
It didn't make sense.
"(Y/N), you need to stay focused," Uryu warned as he loosed another arrow, striking down a Hollow that had emerged from the sand.
"I know," I muttered, gripping my sword tighter. I shook my head, trying to shove away the strange feeling curling in my chest.
"Oi."
The voice sent shivers down my spine. I froze, feeling Grimmjow'sreiatsuspike—directly in front of me.
In the blink of an eye, Grimmjow was there, standing mere feet away, his sword resting casually over his shoulder. Ichigo was further down the hall now, panting and staring wide-eyed at me and Grimmjow.
"Grimmjow, you bastard—what are you doing?!" Ichigo roared, but Grimmjow ignored him.
"You're pretty quiet for someone who was yelling at me earlier," Grimmjow said, his grin as sharp as a blade. His eyes locked onto mine, unblinking and predatory. "What's the matter, girl? Cat got your tongue?"
I forced myself to stand straight, refusing to back down. My heart was pounding, but I wouldn't let him see me break. "Get out of my way."
Grimmjow raised an eyebrow, looking genuinely amused. "You're not even shaking this time. That's a surprise." He tilted his head slightly, his eyes narrowing as if he was studying me. "You've got guts—I'll give you that."
I didn't know what to say, but his words made something boil under my skin. He was mocking me, again. Treating me like some bug he could step on at any moment.
"I'm not afraid of you," I said before I could stop myself.
A beat passed. Then Grimmjow let out a low, dangerous laugh. "Oh, Ilikeyou," he said, his grin widening. "Most people start crying the second they feel myreiatsu—but you're still standing. Foolish, but impressive."
"Get away from her, Grimmjow!" Ichigo yelled, his voice raw with anger. I saw him rushing forward again, but Grimmjow didn't move.
Instead, his eyes stayed locked on me, and for a moment, it was like everything else disappeared. His presence was overwhelming, like an endless ocean threatening to pull me under, but I stood my ground.
"I'll remember this," Grimmjow said softly, almost like it was a promise. "You've got something interesting about you, girl. Don't die too quickly—I might want to see it again."
And just like that, he vanished.
"Damn it!" Ichigo swung his blade where Grimmjow had stood, but it was too late. Grimmjow was already back across the hall, his grin taunting as he held his sword casually.
"Next time, Kurosaki," Grimmjow called out, turning his back to us like he'd already decided the fight was over. "I'll come at you for real. And maybe..." He shot me a final look, his blue eyes gleaming with something unreadable. "...I'll see what your little friend is capable of."
Ichigo clenched his fists, his entire body shaking with rage. "Grimmjow!Don't you walk away!"
But Grimmjow didn't stop. He disappeared down the corridor, hisreiatsufinally fading into the distance.
The silence that followed was deafening. I sank to my knees, my heart still racing, my hands trembling despite myself.
"(Y/N), are you okay?" Ichigo was in front of me now, his expression tight with concern.
"I-I'm fine," I managed to stammer, though I wasn't sure I believed it. My chest still felt heavy, like I was suffocating under the weight of Grimmjow's presence. "What... what was that about?"
Ichigo frowned, his jaw clenched. "Grimmjow's a monster. He was messing with you—don't let it get to you."
"Yeah," I said softly, but even as I nodded, Grimmjow's words echoed in my mind.I'll remember this... You've got something interesting about you.
Why did it feel like he wasn't done with me yet?
The silence that followed Grimmjow's departure felt heavy, like a weight pressing down on my chest. My breathing was uneven, my knees still shaky as I tried to steady myself. Ichigo knelt in front of me, his eyes sharp with concern.
"(Y/N)," he said, his voice low but firm, "don't let what he said get to you."
I looked at him, searching his expression. His brow was furrowed, his jaw tight, like he was fighting his own frustration. "Ichigo, I..." I trailed off, unsure what I wanted to say. How could I tell him that Grimmjow's words still echoed in my mind? That his gaze felt like it had burned itself into me?
Uryu stepped closer, his bow still shimmering faintly with residual energy. "We can't afford to dwell on Grimmjow," he said curtly, pushing his glasses up. "Orihime is still waiting for us. Every second we waste could mean we're too late."
"Uryu's right," Chad said in his calm, quiet way, though his massive frame looked more tense than usual. "We need to keep moving."
Ichigo stood, his fists clenched at his sides. "Yeah. Let's go."
I pushed myself to my feet, forcing my legs to stop shaking. "I'm fine," I said, more to myself than to them. "Let's find Orihime."
As we moved deeper intoLas Noches, the eerie quiet returned, broken only by the soft sound of our footsteps against the cold, pale floors. The corridors all looked the same—endless, white, and empty, stretching far beyond what seemed possible. It was like we were walking inside the belly of some lifeless beast, and at any moment, it would swallow us whole.
I couldn't stop thinking about Grimmjow. The way he'd looked at me. The way he'd said my name without even knowing it. Like he'd found a new toy to play with, but something about it felt... different. I hated how my heart still raced at the memory of his voice.
"Interesting," he'd called me. I didn't know what that meant, but I knew it wasn't good.
"Stay focused," I whispered to myself.
"Did you say something?" Ichigo glanced back at me.
"Nothing."
But even as we moved, I felt it—that faint, tingling presence at the back of my mind. Grimmjow. It was like hisreiatsuhad left a scar, a mark I couldn't shake.
The silence after Grimmjow's departure felt louder than the chaos before it. My heartbeat still thundered in my ears, and no matter how hard I tried, my legs refused to move.
"(Y/N)," Ichigo said again, his voice softer this time. He knelt in front of me, his orange hair wild and damp with sweat. "What happened back there? Did he—"
"I'm fine," I interrupted quickly, forcing my voice steady even though my hands were still shaking. "He didn't hurt me."
Ichigo's jaw tightened, his eyes dark with frustration. "That bastard... messing with you like that. What did he say to you?"
I hesitated, the weight of Grimmjow's words still lingering in my mind:"Don't die too quickly—I might want to see it again."Something about the way he looked at me, like he'd found a new toy, made my stomach twist.
"Nothing important," I lied. "He was just trying to scare me."
Ichigo didn't look convinced, but Chad stepped forward, his massive figure a reassuring presence. "We don't have time to talk. We need to move before he comes back."
"Chad's right," Uryu added, his voice calm but sharp. He pushed his glasses up and turned toward the endless white halls stretching before us. "Grimmjow could've killed us, but he didn't. He was toying with us. We can't give him another chance."
Ichigo exhaled heavily and stood up, grippingZangetsuso tightly his knuckles turned white. "Fine. Let's go."
I forced myself to stand, ignoring the ache in my body and the strange heaviness in my chest.Pull it together, (Y/N).Orihime was waiting for us, and I wasn't going to let Grimmjow—or my fear—stop me.
We moved forward again, deeper intoLas Noches. The hallways were endless and identical, as though we were walking in circles, and every now and then, the silence was broken by the distant sound of something scraping or howling.
"Is this place even real?" I muttered under my breath.
"It's real," Uryu replied curtly. "And it's designed to break us."
I swallowed hard. I didn't want to admit it, but I was starting to feel that way. The air felt heavy here, like it was pressing against my chest with every step. I wondered if Orihime felt the same way—alone in this labyrinth of white walls.
Suddenly, Ichigo stopped walking, holding out an arm to block us. "Wait."
I froze, my pulse spiking. "What is it?"
"I sense something," he said, narrowing his eyes.
I strained my ears, trying to hear anything in the stillness. For a moment, there was nothing—just the sound of our breathing and the faint hum of spiritual pressure in the air. But then...
Thump.
The sound was faint at first, like something heavy falling onto the ground. Then it came again—thump, thump, thump. It was rhythmic, growing louder and closer with every beat.
"What is that?" I whispered, gripping my sword.
Ichigo's eyes sharpened. "Get ready."
Before we could react, the wall ahead of us exploded in a cloud of dust and debris. I threw up my arm to shield my face as chunks of stone clattered to the floor around us.
From the smoke emerged a massive creature—anotherArrancar. Its mask was jagged and beastlike, its body towering over us as its claws scraped against the floor. Itsreiatsuwas thick and suffocating, even worse than the Hollows we'd faced before.
"Another one of them," Ichigo growled, stepping forward withZangetsuat the ready.
"Careful!" Uryu called, drawing his bow. "This one's stronger!"
The creature let out an ear-splitting roar and charged. I stumbled back, my heart racing as Ichigo rushed to meet it. Their clash sent another shockwave through the hall, and I forced myself to focus, raising my sword.
I have to help. I can't just stand here.
The creature was massive but fast. Its claws slashed at Ichigo, and even as he dodged, it kept pressing forward, its attacks relentless. Chad and Uryu moved in to flank it—Uryu's arrows struck it in rapid succession, while Chad delivered a devastating punch to its side.
I saw an opening and moved in, my grip firm on the hilt of my sword. This is it. Don't hesitate.
With a yell, I slashed at its leg, the blade cutting into its tough hide. The creature roared and swung at me, but I ducked and scrambled backward just in time. My chest heaved, and adrenaline coursed through me.
"Nice work!" Ichigo called, flashing me a grin as he leapt over the creature, slicing its arm withZangetsu.
We fought together, all four of us moving like parts of a single machine. Ichigo struck hard and fast, Chad delivered heavy blows, Uryu provided cover with his arrows, and I stayed close to the ground, aiming for openings they created.
The battle felt like it lasted forever. My body was screaming with exhaustion, but finally, with a final yell, Ichigo swungZangetsuin a wide arc. The creature let out one last roar before it crumbled into dust, itsreiatsufading into nothing.
I collapsed to my knees, gasping for breath. "Is it over?"
"For now," Ichigo muttered, wiping sweat from his brow. "We need to keep moving before something else shows up."
I nodded, pushing myself back to my feet. My limbs were shaking, but there was no time to stop. Orihime was still waiting.
We started walking again, but my mind kept drifting back to Grimmjow. His words echoed in my ears:"I'll remember this... Don't die too quickly."
What did he want from me? Was I really just a joke to him, something weak he could crush for fun? Or was there something else?
"Hey," Ichigo said quietly, snapping me out of my thoughts. "You good?"
"I'm fine," I replied, though I wasn't sure if I meant it.
"Don't let Grimmjow get in your head," he said, his voice firm. "He's dangerous, (Y/N). If he comes near you again... run. Got it?"
I looked at him, his face serious and determined, and nodded. "Got it."
But something told me that running wouldn't be an option—not with Grimmjow. He wasn't done with me yet.
As we moved deeper intoLas Noches, I could feel it—his presence, like a shadow on my back. Watching. Waiting.
And somehow, I knew that our paths would cross again.
And next time, I wouldn't be able to hide behind Ichigo.
