It was the perfect summer afternoon, the kind where the sky stretched out forever in a soft blue, dotted with just a few clouds. Trent picked up Gwen from her house and they were heading out somewhere. Trent wanted to make sure Gwen would have a great time with him.
"Babe, where are we going" Gwen said while looking out the window with her arms crossed.
"It's a surprise, you'll see" Trent said while smiling.
After a few minutes on the road, Trent arrived and drove right through the entrance of a camping site.
"Camping?" Gwen said in confusion and then sighed. "I hope this doesn't give me nightmares from Wawanakwa.
Trent chuckled at her joke "Oh trust me, it won't be like that, it'll be much better."
Trent had planned this trip for him and Gwen for a while now. Just a place for them to escape and just a day to relax and enjoy each other's company. Soon afterwards, Trent parked his car and got out to unload the car with everything he and Gwen brought for the camping trip for the day. The camping tent, snacks, cooler, Trent's guitar, and his bag of clothes and toiletries along with Gwen's. Trent put his backpack over his shoulders and was carrying all of the bags and even the cooler.
"You sure you don't want me to carry something?" Gwen said.
"I've got it, don't worry baby" Trent said with a grin on his face while sweating a little.
"No, no I insist" Gwen said while grabbing the cooler out of his hand.
"Thank you" Trent said.
After a few minutes of walking to the camp site to set up, both were getting a bit exhausted as the hot sun made them start sweating. Both Gwen and Trent were laughing at how much stuff they had packed for just one night. Then at last they were at the camp site. Trent unloaded everything and set up the tent. Trent asked Gwen to give him the instructions. Gwen gave the instructions to Trent. Gwen giggled. He was holding the instructions upside down.
"Here let me help" Gwen said while laughing and flipping the instructions right side up.
"Oh I'm so silly" Trent said while smiling and unrolling the tent on the grass. "Thanks for the help babe".
Gwen rolled her eyes and was laughing while helping Trent set up the tent.
There was something about being out in nature that made everything feel just a little more magical, a little more raw especially with her boyfriend. The tent went up without too much trouble. Trent had set up more than a few in his life, but it still made them both laugh when they got one of the poles caught in the fabric and nearly knocked it over. After they finished, Gwen stood back and admired their work.
"Not too bad" she said.
"Not bad at all," Trent ageed, while wiping the sweat off his forehead.
"Wanna go for a swim before it gets too late?" Trent said to Gwen.
"Definitely. It is getting really hot." Gwen said.
Gwen headed inside the tent to change into a black bikini. Gwen went out of the tent and It was Trent's turn to change. Trent was grabbing his red swim trunks from his bag. Trent turned around towards the tent. As he was heading to the tent, Trent stopped and stared at Gwen. His jaw dropped when he say Gwen with her black bikini on.
"Wow, you look amazing!" Trent said
"Thanks" Gwen said while blushing and scrunching her face. "Your turn to change"
After a few minutes, Trent was ready to head to the lake.
"You ready to go?" Trent said
"I'm more than ready" Gwen said while slipping off her sandals and tossing them in the direction of their tent.
"Race you to the lake." Trent said while running and laughing.
"No fair, you got a head start" Gwen said.
Eventually Gwen caught up with Trent. They both took off, laughing as they ran down the path toward the dock. The lake was a beautiful shade of blue. Calm and inviting. Gwen plunged in first, diving beneath the surface with a little shriek of excitement, while Trent followed her in, splashing water in every direction.
"This is perfect" Gwen said.
"You're all soaked" Trent said
Gwen raised an eyebrow, her lips curling into a playful smile. "Oh, really? We'll see about that."
In a split second, she splashed him, sending a wave of water straight at his chest. Trent sputtered, laughing, but didn't back down. He lunged toward her, grabbing a handful of water and sending it flying right at her face.
"Hey!" Gwen shrieked, wiping water out of her eyes, laughing uncontrollably. "You're going to pay for that!"
Trent grinned, his dark hair already soaked, and before she could react, he grabbed her by the waist and lifted her off her feet, spinning her around. Gwen squealed in surprise, the water splashing around them.
"Hey!" Gwen giggled, "Put me down!"
Trent set Gwen back down. She took a big handful of water and splashed in all over Trent's face. Trent blinked, caught off guard, then quickly turned in a circle, trying to spot her. Before he could react, Gwen took a deep breath and went underwater.
While Trent was looking for Gwen wondering where she went, Gwen went back up to the surface, gasping for air.
"BOO!" Gwen yelled and hid behind Trent.
Trent flinched with his eyes wide. He turned around and saw Gwen, giggling.
"Okay, okay, that was good babe. You're definitely not getting away with that though." Trent said while giving a mischievous look.
The chase was on. They splashed, dunked, and swam around each other, teasing and laughing as the water became their playground. Gwen would dart ahead, only to have Trent sneak up behind her, grabbing her ankle and pulling her back into the water. Every time she thought she had the upper hand, he'd sneak in a surprise splash or tickled her stomach that sent her into a fit of laughter.
After what felt like hours, both of them were breathless, floating in the calm lake, their laughter slowly fading silence. Gwen leaned her head against his shoulder, her wet hair plastered to her back.
"You know," Gwen said, a little out of breath, "this might just be the best part of my day."
Trent smiled, his arm draped around her.
"I agree. It's perfect out here, just you, me, and the water."
They floated there, watching the sky change colors, the world around them slowing down as they enjoyed the simple joy of being together in the lake. Eventually, they went out of the water, both shivering slightly in the cool breeze.
"Well, that was perfect," Gwen said,
grabbing a towel from her bag of stuff.
"Yeah," Trent agreed, shaking water from his hair. "But now I think it's time for firewood and a little music."
Gwen had changed into her midnight blue pj shirt and shorts while Trent changed into a white tank top and dark green shorts. They spent the next hour gathering sticks and logs for the fire. By the time the sun was setting, they had a small, crackling campfire ready. The orange glow of the flames flickered in their faces, casting shadows on the ground as they sat together on a blanket.
Trent reached for his guitar, strumming a few random chords. Gwen rested her head on his shoulder, watching the fire dance. Trent and her both smiled. The sound of the guitar blended with the night, the chirp of crickets, and the rustle of the wind through the trees. Then, he began to sing.
His voice was smooth and soft, but it had that warmth to it that always made Gwen's heart swell. The song was one he had written himself, just a simple tune about love and the peaceful moments they shared. He didn't need to be perfect; he was just singing for her, and that made it beautiful.
"This song is for you, babe" Trent said while clearing his throat as he began to sing.
By the fire, soft and bright,
You and I, the stars tonight.
Hand in hand, hearts in tune,
Singing beneath the silver moon.
Oh, my love, so warm and true,
Every moment's sweet with you.
Let the flames dance, let them glow,
I'll love you more than you'll ever know.
As Trent finished those last few lines of the song before lowering his guitar, Gwen was in awe.
"Omg, babe, that was so cute I loved that" Gwen said while clapping her hands.
"I think I could sing forever if it meant you'd stay here with me." Trent said while chuckling
Gwen was blushing a lot and was biting her lip and so she turned her face away so Trent wouldn't see her pink blushing face. He still noticed anyways but didn't say anything. He could tell she was enjoying her time with him.
After a few minutes sitting in comfortable silence for a while, just watching the flames flicker and listening to the quiet of the night, Trent got up and grabbed the bag of snacks. He was digging for something. Just then, he showed Gwen what it was.
"Look what I got." Trent said while holding a bag of marshmallows.
"Ooooh, marshmallows." Gwen said in delight. "Perfect for our camping trip"
"Yep!" Trent said while giving her a big smile.
Both held a stick with a marshmallow at the tip carefully rotating it over the flames.
After a couple of minutes sitting by the campfire, both of their marshmallows were warm and toasty. Gwen rook a bite out of her marshmallow.
"Mmmm, really good" Gwen said while chewing her marshmallow. "How's yours Trent?"
"Heh…A little burnt" Trent said while giggling. "but it's still really yummy."
Gwen and him both laughed and enjoyed their marshmallows. After a while, Trent put out the campfire and they climbed into the tent, curling up in the warmth of their sleeping bags.
"Best day ever," Gwen said.
"Definitely," Trent replied, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "And tomorrow, we can wake up and do it all over again."
Gwen smiled, eyes heavy with sleep, as she yawned and nestled against him. "I'd be okay with that."
Trent smiled and caressed Gwen's forehead as she closed her eyes. And with that, she drifted off to sleep, wrapped up in his arms.
Trent snuggled right beside her. He knew he had made Gwen's day.
"Good night, Gwen" Trent said and then he kissed her on the forehead before shutting his eyes.
While Trent was snoring, Gwen opened one of her eyes and did a quiet giggle after that kiss on the forehead. He looked so cute while he was sleeping. Gwen snuggled close to him against his warm chest and fell asleep as the quiet night sounds went like a a rhythm both wrapped in each other's presence.
The End
