Ch 97: Research Log; The Realms (Top Secret)

This is Dr. Izuku Midoriya coming in again with a new research log on a newly discovered objective intrigue at the Neo Icon Phoenix Research Facility. Once again, with Professor Egon's okay, I was allowed to look into this topic. After doing so, we both quickly realized that something like this had to be kept at the utmost forefront of secrecy. So, only a select few individuals will know about this topic.

I'll explain how we came to this discovery to give a brief oversight of this. Back when several of our most delicate and vital materials were stolen from us a few months ago. Some of them fell into the hands of an individual responsible for creating the Nomu monsters. But instead of another Nomu, an entirely new life form was created. However, the only way for this new life form to propagate is for it to inject a host with an embryo parasitically; that same host happens to be our person of interest.

After a…very close call, we managed to save the host from certain death and get some vague information from him. From what little we got from him, it turns out he's not even from Earth or, as he calls it, Earth realm. Now I sit here with him now. Thanks for coming….Barkan. Stop trying to eat the mic.

I want to see how this small creature picks up my voice.

It's not a creature; it's a machine or a tool, like a…spear. Just stop putting it in your mouth; it's not tasty.

I'll take your word for it, my master.

Don't call me master. I know we talked about this briefly, but you were recovering, and the alien came up, and well, now we have a chance to clear the air on things.

Ask whatever you want, and I'll explain it to the best of my knowledge.

OK, so tell me about this place you're from. Out World, if I'm correct.

To explain Out World, I must explain its history.

That works perfectly; go on.

Initially, Out World was a desert wasteland of sand, stone, and deep gulches inhabited by three different races: the Shokan, the Centaurian, and the Outworlders.

Can you explain these other races?

The Shokan are Outworlders who bred with dragons and created creatures with four arms, massive strength, and fire breath. The Centaurians are Outworlders who bred with great beasts and now possess four legs to ride across the open plains. These two races are constantly at odds with each other. Then there are the Outworlders themselves, who look very similar to Earth Relmers but are stronger, faster, more reliant, and live longer lives.

Fascinating.

At this time, Outworld was divided until the first Kahn-created age took the throne: the Dragon King Onaga, who brought all of Outworld together under his fear and power.

So a Kahn is a…king?

More of a tyrant that cannot be opposed. When Outworld was put under his thumb, he set off to Konquer other Realms.

Can you tell me what these Realms are precisely?

It is hard for me to put into words, but it is like many worlds occupying one space but never colliding—perfectly placed in their own safe zone.

Like snow globes on a shelf?

If that is how you want to think of it, then yes. But this is where we get to my people's creation—the Tarkatans.

Please, go on.

Onaga saw Outworlders' uniqueness and crossed them with something from another realm to make super soldiers—demons from the Nether Realm.

Nether Realm? It wouldn't happen to go by any other names like….hell, would it?

It's been described as such.

In the very important category, I'll put that aside as a side note.

From the cross-breeding of these now-extinct demons and the Outworlders came the Tarkatans. He would use us to invade and konquer other realms until his lieutenant, the immortal Shao, poisoned and killed him. Taking the title of Kahn and any Realms that Onaga had merged before.

Merged realms? And what do you mean he's an immortal? This Shao character.

Once every one hundred years, one realm may challenge the other in a combative Mortal Kombat. If one realm loses ten times, that Realm is merged with the victor. If the defenders win once, the counter is reset. As for Shao's species, he's a member of a race of creatures related to the elder gods. But only their immortality. Allowing him to live on so long as he's never harmed beyond repair.

So he can be killed; it's just tricky.

Indeed, over the millennia, Shao Kahn has merged several realms: the Dark Realm, the Light Realm, the Cave Realm, the Perfect Realm, the Bug Realm, the Lizard Realm, the Twin Realm, and more.

How many Realms are left?

The Nether Realm, Dream Realm, Crystal Realm, Chaos Realm, Order Realm, and Earth Realm. He has his sights on Earth Realm as we speak. He has already won nine times, and the hundred-year mark is almost upon us.

That's bad. What else can you tell me about Shao?

He has great magic, strength, millennia of fighting experience, and many strong allies. Princess Kitana, her bodyguard Jade, and Scarlet are the three greatest assassins in Our World. The general of his armies, Rekio. His champion and Prince of the Shokon, Goro. The Nether Realm sorcerer imp, Quan Chi. His advisor and right-hand man, the sorcerer Shang Tsung!

You could have sounded more pleased saying his name.

He sold me off to that psycho who infected me with that parasite!

So, changing the subject, you mention Elder Gods. What are these?

As their names imply, they are the first and original gods who created the system we abide by and the many different realms. Only demigods can council with them. But apart from that, little is known.

Right….um, let's end it there for now. Thank you again for agreeing to this and answering so many questions. I think I have more than enough and more than I bargained for. This is Doctor Izuku Midoriya signing off for now.
