Luna, a female Pokemon trainer in the Alola region, was currently making a stop at the Pokemon Center on Route 5. She had been spending all day working hard to raise up her Pokemon team. She had heard recently that Professor Kukui was preparing to initiate something called "The Island Challenge", which was supposed to bring in skilled trainers not just from around Alola but from all over the Pokemon world. As such, she was preparing her team for the challenges that might lie ahead, whatever they may be. Now, many of her Pokemon were exhausted and in need of a rest.
Luna pushed open the doors to the Pokemon Center, and carefully placed the six pokeballs containing her current team on a tray to be handed over to Nurse Joy for healing. Among the Pokemon she had on her now, the chestnut brown haired girl was especially proud of her newly evolved Lurantis. She had caught it earlier in the day along Route 5 as a Fomantis, and after what felt like hours of intense training it had evolved. She hadn't even settled on a possible nickname for it yet, but she wanted it to be the head of her team, because from what she heard Lurantis was going to become a very crucial part of one of the challenges in the very near future.
Soon, with the humming of the machine, the healing was completed. Nurse Joy handed the tray of six pokeballs back to Luna, smiling as she did so. "Thank you for waiting. We've healed all your Pokemon back to full health. Please do come again." And she gave a small bow.
Luna smiled back. "Will do." And she prepared to tuck the pokeballs back on a belt that she'd brought with her to house the Pokemon that would make up her team. More intense training lay ahead, and she wanted to get in as much as she could before the sun went down and she would have to go home for the night.
However, as the girl trainer prepared to head back out to Route 5, one of the pokeballs on her belt began to rumble ever so faintly. There was a flash of light, and then appearing before her was none other than her newly evolved Lurantis. It was female, just like the trainer who had caught and raised it.
Luna was a bit surprised, Pokemon didn't usually leave their pokeballs unless commanded to do so. "What is it, Lurantis?" She asked the grass type Pokemon, hoping to get an answer of some sort (even if humans couldn't necessarily understand Pokemon speech).
"Lurantis!" The Lurantis cried, looking quite distressed if the flushed look on her face was any indication. She even had her legs crossed, perhaps as a way of communicating what was the matter.
"Oh, you have to go to the bathroom?" Luna guessed, and received a confirming nod. Luckily, all Pokemon Centers had bathrooms for both trainers and Pokemon. Even so, it was a little annoying to the girl trainer to have to push back her training plans for something such as a bathroom break. Still, it seemed that Lurantis needed to take care of her urge right away, and would not be satisfied until she did so. Considering the alternative would be to risk an accident inside her pokeball, letting her use the bathroom was the better choice.
The girl trainer reluctantly took hold of her Lurantis and led along to the bathroom at the back of the Pokemon Center. Just like with humans, Pokemon bathrooms were divided into separate wings for male and female Pokemon. "Okay, here we are," Luna said to her Lurantis. "Go on in, do what you have to do. Just remember to wipe and wash your hands afterward, okay?"
"Lurantis." Lurantis nodded and then made her way into the bathroom without hesitation.
Luna, meanwhile, sighed and kept watch outside the bathroom door. There was nothing she could do now but wait for Lurantis to finish.
Once inside the bathroom for female Pokemon, Luranits made a beeline for the nearest unoccupied stall. Pokemon toilets weren't exactly the same as human toilets, because Pokemon did not go to the bathroom exactly the same way humans did. The byproducts that Pokemon produced when relieving themselves broke down differently compared to what was the case for humans, even to the point where it was said that Pokemon like Grimer and Muk were in fact mutated forms of said Pokemon byproducts.
Lurantis was most relieved to find that there was a toilet just the right size for her to use. Since Pokemon could be very big or very small, toilets had to be adjusted to accommodate them. It would not do to have very small Pokemon using big (or even medium sized) toilets, nor would it do to have very big Pokemon use regular toilets or anything smaller. The toilet Lurantis was using was something slightly bigger than a toilet used by most humans, it even had a bigger drain.
Lurantis was in such a hurry to use this big toilet that she failed to take any notice of a sign posted on one of the walls inside the stall. It was a warning to both trainers and Pokemon to exercise caution when using a toilet of this size specifically because of how it had been designed and intended to function. In particular, the size of the drain was something trainers and Pokemon alike were to be wary of at all times.
The grass type Pokemon never seemed to give such a thing even a moment's consideration. If she had, maybe she would've thought twice about using such a big toilet all by herself. But right now, all she could think about was her increasingly urgent need to relieve herself. It was true what they said: What goes in must inevitably come out.
"Lurantis! Lurantis!" Lurantis exclaimed as she hurriedly straddled and scrambled onto the toilet, positioning herself in a very awkward and haphazard fashion! Was it her imagination, or did part of her feel the slightest bit wet? Well, the grass type Pokemon couldn't dwell on such thoughts. All that mattered was that she took care of her desperate bodily need, and quickly before her body decided to do it for her!
So Luranits relaxed, sighing in content as she opened her floodgates and allowed everything to flow out of her. Consuming all those potions to heal in the middle of battle was definitely coming back to haunt her now. Fortunately, as she continued to let it all flow out of her, the grass type Pokemon was beginning to feel much better. She had made it just in the nick of time.
Then, suddenly, without warning there was a click! Had Lurantis looked behind her, she would've seen a red light flash ever so briefly. The next thing she knew, there was a great roar, and the waters in the toilet began to spin! The flush cycle had been activated automatically, something that toilets designed for Pokemon only sometimes had (namely because of the fact that it was feared that Electric type Pokemon might be able to short out the system, either accidentally or intentionally).
And as the flush cycle was carried out, the wet feeling Lurantis had experienced before grew ever more present! As she tried to process why that was, she suddenly felt her legs begin to slide! Before she knew, she had slipped off the toilet seat and plunged into the bowl itself! The grass type Pokemon thrashed all about, desperately trying to pull herself out, but to no avail! "Lurantis! Lurantis!" She screamed, hoping to be heard above the roar of the flushing toilet! Alas, it seemed she could not be heard, the toilet drowned out her cries for help!
Worse was to come! Lurantis continued to spin around and around, all the while feeling as if something was tugging on her, pulling her! Down, down, down she descended! Getting lower and lower with each spin of the toilet and the waters within it! It was clear to the grass type Pokemon what was happening as she was swept up by the dizzying, disorienting whirlpool! The auto-flush was pulling her down the drain, taking her to who knew where?! But there was nothing she could do to escape her fate! The flush cycle was ending!
So it was that the grass type Pokemon disappeared down the drain, fully flushed away! The last thing that could be heard from her was a faint "Glug, glug, glug." and a garbled cry. And then… nothing. The toilet slowly refilled itself, the waters returning to their normal level. But there was no sign of Lurantis or that she had ever been using the toilet at all. It was almost as if the toilet had gobbled her up!
The next thing Lurantis knew, everything went dark!
Once the toilet had stopped flushing, Luna knocked on the bathroom door to check in on her Pokemon. "Okay, you're done now, right, Lurantis?" She asked, expecting to hear a reply. There wasn't one.
Luna waited, thinking that maybe Lurantis hadn't finished using the bathroom after all. Maybe that had been a courtesy flush. So she was silent for a little while, expecting to hear another flush or something else to signify that Lurantis was all done using the bathroom. But when she heard nothing, she again knocked on the door, this time a bit more urgently. "Lurantis, are you done yet? Is everything okay?"
There was still no reply of any sort, which struck Luna as most unusual. Why was Lurantis being silent all of a sudden? Was something wrong? Concern overriding her desire to respect the grass type Pokemon's privacy, the female trainer carefully pushed the bathroom door open and called out. "Hello? Lurantis? Do you need any help?"
Luna looked all around the bathroom, but could see no sign of Lurantis anywhere. It was as if the Pokemon had somehow disappeared or vanished from sight. But Lurantis wasn't a Pokemon that could learn any sort of move that should allow that to happen. Now Luna was beginning to worry. What had happened to Lurantis? Where had she gone?
"Lurantis?" Luna called as she wandered throughout the entire bathroom. "Lurantis, where are you? Say something." All she got for her reply was silence.
The female trainer searched the bathroom from top to bottom, and then from bottom to top. Lurantis had to be around somewhere. Yet why was she unable to find the grass type Pokemon? Where had Lurantis gone?! Where had she disappeared to?! And why couldn't Luna find her?! Luna was beginning to grow impatient and just the slightest bit worried! "Lurantis, come on! This isn't funny! Come out from… wherever it is you're hiding! This is not a time to be playing games! I don't know why you would think it is!"
Yet all she got for her troubles was yet more ominous, uncomfortable silence. Luna was frustrated, and above all else concerned. Where was Lurantis? Where was the grass type Pokemon?
Eventually, however, Luna gave up. She could not think of a valid explanation for Lurantis' unexplained absence. The grass type Pokemon had somehow disappeared without notice. It made no sense, but wherever it was that Lurantis had gone, Luna could not find her. All that hard work she'd put into raising it from Fomantis was gone, possibly forever.
With a frustrated groan, Luna exited the bathroom, Lurantis' pokeball still clinging tightly to her belt. It was now a pokeball without a Pokemon inside of it. Lurantis' sudden and mysterious disappearance had now changed her plans. She would have to postpone training and go look for another Fomantis, either along Route 5 or in the Lush Jungle. And then she would have to train it until it gained enough experience to evolve into a Lurantis.
Yet almost as soon as Luna had exited the Pokemon Center and gotten back onto Route 5, she noticed what appeared to be a commotion of some kind! The path ahead, leading to the Lush Jungle, was now blocked off. People seemed to be talking and chattering amongst each other, sharing looks of confusion, concern, and most of all fright.
"What's going on?" Luna asked as she approached the crowd.
A young male trainer, his legs shaking and his teeth chattering, explained. "Haven't you heard? There's a monster roaming around here! It just showed up, and now everyone's in a state of panic!"
"What? Monster?" The female trainer blinked in surprise.
The young male trainer nodded. "Yeah. No one will even go near it, they're so afraid. What are we going to do?! It's blocking the only path to the Lush Jungle! We'll never be able to have any sort of 'Island Challenge' as long as it's around!"
Luna then crept forward ever so slowly. What she saw made her take a step back, blink, and rub her eyes. No, she was not seeing things. Standing on the path right in front of her was what appeared to be an abnormally large Lurantis! It appeared to be coated in some kind of strange substance that almost looked like the textures you might see on Alola's native versions of Grimer and Muk. Where had such a thing come from?
"LURANTIS!" The giant Lurantis bellowed, shaking the ground and making all those gathered on the path scream and run away! All that is, except for Luna. She was intrigued by the prospect of such a rare sight. This was just what she needed to replace her old Lurantis that had just disappeared. With a Lurantis like this on her team, no one would be a match for her! So the female trainer stepped forward, pokeball at the ready. She was determined to battle and capture this one of a kind new Lurantis.
"Get ready, Lurantis!" The brown haired girl eagerly proclaimed as she took a pokeball off her belt and held it close to her body. "One way or another, you're coming home with me! I won't let you terrorize this route and the people any longer!"
But the Lurantis' reply was not at all what Luna expected. Instead of rearing back and preparing for battle, the Lurantis was eyeing Luna most curiously. It then slowly made its way towards her, that mysterious substance on it slowly dripping and falling off its abnormally large body. And when said substance hit the ground, it not only made a sickening splat sound, but also gave off a rather potent odor that made anyone who smelt it plug their nose.
Luna didn't know whether to be fascinated or disgusted as the Lurantis continued to creep towards her. Suddenly, she and the giant Lurantis were face to face, eyeing each other!
The giant Lurantis then unfolded its arms, wrapping them around the female trainer as it emitted a high-pitched, happy sounding "LURANTIS!". It was as if it knew the girl from before.
For a moment or two, the female trainer blinked in confusion. Then, suddenly, it dawned on her! "Lurantis?" She asked. "Is it really you?"
"LURANTIS!" The massive grass type Pokemon nodded as it happily hugged the girl, delighted to be reunited with her.
Luna, however, remained confused. "I… don't understand. How is this possible? I mean… you… disappeared. What happened to you, Lurantis? Where'd you go? And…" She sniffed and tried not to gag at the overwhelming stench emanating from the giant grass type Pokemon. "Why do you smell so horrid? You almost smell like…" Then, suddenly, it seemed to dawn on her. "Wait… did you actually…?!"
The giant Lurantis slowly nodded its head and whimpered. "LURANTIS." It proceeded to explain in a horrified and upset tone what had happened to her since her trainer had seen her last.
"No way!" The female trainer nearly gasped! "You actually got flushed down the toilet?" She received a confirming nod. "And it took you through some pipes, then deposited you into a sludge pit?" Another confirming nod was presented to her. "And because you got covered in the… sludge… it made you grow so big? And then you tried to come looking for me?"
"LURANTIS." The grass type Pokemon nodded one more time.
A mix of emotions rushed through Luna upon hearing all of this. Above all else, though, she was proud and overjoyed to have her missing Lurantis back! "Oh, Lurantis! I'm so sorry that happened to you! I'm so glad you're okay and that you came back to me!" She exclaimed as she finally accepted the embrace of her giant grass type. "I promise, from now on we'll be more careful with toilets, especially ones built for you and that have auto-flushes. I'll never let you go down the drain again."
"LURANTIS." The giant grass type smiled, just as overjoyed to be back with her trainer as her trainer was overjoyed to be back with her.
Giggling, the female trainer then pulled out the empty pokeball on her belt and held it out. "Come on, Lurantis. "I'll take you home and get you all cleaned up. Then we'll see if we can't figure out a way to change you back to your normal size. But hey, even if you stay this way, I'll still love you."
And Lurantis eagerly allowed itself to be recalled back into its pokeball with a flash of light. Luna smiled, holding the pokeball tightly as she then turned around. Training was done for today, right now she needed to take her clearly still shaken up Lurantis home and get it cleaned.
Unknown to everyone, however, a green haired and green eyed woman had been watching the whole thing from afar. Seeing the giant Lurantis had given her an idea: She would find a way to replicate what she had seen, and create a Lurantis that was more powerful than any that had been seen before.
