It was another busy day at the 16th Precinct. A home away from home for the teenager. When she reached the SVU office she was greated my Fin.
"My favorite Benson." Fin said as he raised his hand for a high five.
"Hey, Uncle Fin." The teen said as she smiled as she complied with the high five.
"Hey Kat," a cheerful voice said from behind Kat and Fin.
"Hey Amanda." They both said in unison.
"Coming to hang out with us this afternoon?" Amanda asked.
"Nope. Looking for my mom. Need to ask her something." Kat said as she sat down at Olivia's desk which was litered with case files and a few baby pictures of Kat.
"Where do you want to go this time?" Fin asked, laughing.
"You know she really needs to get some new pictures. Like who even is this person?" Kat said picking up a picture and putting in the desk drawer trying to dodge the question.
"You know he won't stop until he gets an answer, right?" Amanda said jokingly.
Kat had now Fin almost her whole life he was like a surogote father and she knew he wouldn't say anything to her mom unless he felt like he needed to.
"There's this thing tonight at a friend's house that I want to go to," Kat said as she spun around in the chair.
"A thing? Sounds like code for a party." Fin piped up.
Kat shrugged, "Uncle Munch is really better at deciphering, you know?"
"You're as subborn as your mother." Fin said ambused with Kat's response.
"Hey, I heard that," Olivia said jokingly as she walked into the office.
"How was the interrigation?" Kat asked.
"Probably about as fun as yours is going to be." Fin answered.
Kat leaned around her mom to make eye contact with Fin who was now leaning back in his chair with a smirk on his face as if he was pleased with himself for one upping her.
"Everything's okay?" Olivia asked Kat.
"Yeah, I just wanted to asked you if I could go over to a friends tonight."
"Ahhh," Olivia responded as she looked back at Fin.
"Mom?" Kat said getting Olivia attention back. "So, can I go?"
"Kathryn," Olivia said. Kat knew that was code for "no." Anytime she used her full first name, it was a sign that a "no" was coming.
"Seriously, why not?" Kat said as she stood up. "Everybody else is going?"
"Everybody is going??" Olivia laughed. "Fin, are you going?"
"Not to my knowledge baby girl." Fin said to Olivia.
"Rollins, what about you?"
"I am skipping this one." Amanda said trying to stay Switizerland on this conversation.
"Mom, that is not what I meant," Kat said a little frustrated.
"You know you can't go out on school nights so why do you even try?" Olivia asked as she sat down on the corner of her desk.
"Mom, you are being completely unfair," Kat continued. "I am 16, which is basically an adult."
"It is basically not, but nice try. The answer is no." Olivia reiterated.
Kat let out a sigh of frustration.
"Why don't you find a movie and we can watch that tonight?" Olivia said trying to defuse the situation a little.
"Mom, no offense, but I would rather hang out with my friends," Kat said as she stood up and put her backpack on. "I am going to go home now, unless you think I am basically too young to walk by myself."
Olivia looked at Kat with an unamused face. "See you tonight."
Kat did not return a response and she turned and walked out of the SVU office.
"Rollins, where do you think she gets that attitude from?" Fin asked.
"Very funny," Olivia said to Fin. "She wanted to go to a party, didn't she?" Olivia asked, looking at Fin and then Rollins.
"She is a teenager, that is what they do." Amanda finally responded. "You should be greatful that she ask permission and just doesn't go."
"Yeah, that's probably because she still fears me a little. One day, she'll figure out that the grounding will be worth it for doing what she wants." Olivia said as she opened a drawer, pulled out the picture Kat and placed it back on her desk. "I miss that little girl. Remember Fin when she begged up to take her places?"
"Yeah, I still don't know how Munch got her on liverwurst sandwiches with the extra onions." Fin said as they all laughed. "They all grow up Liv. She really is a good kid...even if she has your attitude."
"Thanks Fin." Olivia rolled her eyes are pulled her focus to the files on her desk.
