On the coast of Kanto, the mighty Indigo Plateau stands tall. Within it, the many citizens and their tamed partners make their home. It's peaceful, tranquil, and very neat for romantic vacations and also infamous for competitions.
However, there is one problem… pest control.
Most have squirrels, bugs, or birds…
This region?
Has Pokémon.
Creatures that manipulate the elements at their whim. In all sizes from small to large. They are majestic and dangerous. While some are tamed and live with their owners, people still fear them and keep them under a tight leash with their Pokéballs. Anyone using a Pokémon for malicious intention is forbidden. Even certain Pokémon were banned and only used for sport.
Wild Pokémon, on the other hand, are untameable and ferocious. They have attacked the nine regions as the chiefs of their division stand strong and maintain structure from the occurring attacks.
And tonight was no different.
A 12-year old boy closed the door as a Flamethrower attack hit said object. "Not even a wink of sleep." The boy remarked. But at this point he was used to it.
This boy is Ash Ketchum. He has raven-black hair, amber eyes, and 'z' marks on the side of his cheeks. At his side was his faithful partner Pichu.
Since he could remember, wild Pokémon have launched attacks all over the region. He used to live in the quiet Pallet Town but when the Pokémon began to wreak havoc on a modern basis, people and their tamed Pokémon retreated to their regional leagues, now being fortified and reinforced to withstand the wild Pokémon attacks.
Once the Flamethrower ceased, Ash peeked out and ran outside with his Pichu. Around him, the more trained members brought out their own Pokémon to fight the ongoing midnight attack.
"Rapidash, Megahorn!" An older trainer shouted and the horse sprinted before ramming into a savage Kabutops.
"Petal Dance!" A female trainer shouted and her Vileplume whipped up a tornado of pink petals that consumed the Rock/Water-type before a Pokéball was thrown and captured the Shellfish Pokémon.
Ash was too busy in awe to notice a charging Rhyhorn coming his way. "Power Whip!" Two glowing purple slammed into the Spikes Pokémon, sending him skidding across the ground.
"Ash!" A man in his mid 30s with raven-black hair shouted and as his Venusaur walked beside him. Ash flinched as he was stared down by Red, Chief of the Kanto region. "What are you doing out?! Get inside!" He instructed as his Venusaur saw the Rhyhorn recover and growled.
Rhyhorn pawed the ground and charged with Take Down before Venusaur released a cloud of Sleep Powder that effectively put the wild Pokémon drowsy before sleeping. Ash quickly fled from the scene as he didn't want to be near the battle. Pichu quickly followed.
"What do we have?" Red asked the Rapidash trainer.
"Rock, Water, Grass, Ground, Electric, Fire, Fighting, and I think Surge said there were a few Flying, Bug, and Poison types too. Koga said he saw a few Dragon-types as well."
Red nodded before asking the grim question, "Any legendaries?"
"None so far." The trainer reported before seeing an approaching Scyther only for Venusaur to body-check him with a Double-Edge.
"Good." Red reported and went back to work.
Among the normal Pokémon, some were revered as legendaries. When the fights broke out, the legendaries were nowhere to be seen. Until months ago, even the Legendaries started to get involved. They were quick and highly dangerous. Speaking with the other chiefs, he got several reports about attacking legendaries.
Raikou, the Beast of Thunder, was rumored to have struck Johto. Kyorge, the Sapphire Seafarer, nearly destroyed Hoenn with a tidal wave. Heatran, the Magma Monster, battled the Sinnoh region's chief about a month ago. Torandus, the Master of the Winds, laid siege to Unova. Registeel, the Ironclad Golem, was reported to have dealt with the current Galar's chief, and more.
As long as none of those Legendaries struck, they would be safe.
Ash and Pichu ran to their designated spot for all Pokémon attacks: the Pokémon lab. He burst through the doors, shut them, and quickly got his lab apron on.
"Ah, nice of you two to join the party!" An older man with gray hair and in a white lab coat said. "I thought you were carried off." He teased Ash.
This is Professor Samuel Oak, the Kanto regional professor. Like Ash, he had been relocated from Pallet Town. Beside him was his loyal Pokémon Dragonite, who stood strong.
"What? Who, me? Nah, come on!" Ash jested as he helped the professor out, "I'm waaaaaaay to muscular for them! Those wild Pokémon were jealous about all of… this!"
"Pichu." The tiny yellow mouse timidly squeaked as he looked out the window.
"Well, they need toothpicks." Professor Oak joked which resulted in Ash giving a narrowed glare.
"FIRE!" A trainer shouted at the culprit who was a Magmar. The Spitfire Pokémon unleashed another Fire Blast, planning to add more destruction.
The Fire Blast was immediately doused by a dual Hydro Pump as a group of trainers ran onto the scene.
"Blastoise, douse those flames!" Gary Oak shouted for his main partner. Blastoise nodded and fired a gushing torrent of water from his cannons.
"You too, Starmie!" Misty Waterflower added as the echinoderm spun rapidly and fired jets of water.
Nearby, a Pinsir snapped his pincers menacingly while facing a Combusken who was the partner of May Maple. "Use Mega Kick!" She shouted. The Young Fowl Pokémon launched with a glowing talon that sent the beetle back.
"Fury Cutter!" A Vigoroth descended and began to swipe rapidly with red glowing claws. The ape belonged to Max Maple, May's younger brother. The boy ran onto the scene with a grin, "Good going, Vigoroth!"
"Max! I had it!" May chided her little brother which began an argument between the two siblings. Vigoroth and Combusken just sighed with lidded eyes before confronting the Stag Beetle Pokémon together.
Magmar attempted to flee but was caught off guard when a stray Bubble Beam struck him, dealing super effective damage.
"That's the way, Piplup!" Dawn Berlitz cheered with her partner Pokémon. The penguin looked proud at the praise and summoned a whirlpool that seized Magmar in the current, leaving the Fire-type at the mercy of the water.
Nearby, an Electabuzz was getting double-teamed by a Chespin and a Graveler.
"An Electabuzz! I must capture that Pokémon for further research." Clemont Galvani reported.
"Whatever," Brock Slate responded and pointed forward, "Graveler, trap with Stone Edge!" The Rock Pokémon slammed his fists into the ground and trapped the Electric-type within a ring of stone spires.
"Pin Missile!" Clemont shouted and the Spiny Nut Pokémon fired dull green missiles from his quills, bombarded the trapped Electric Pokémon. As the Stone Edge was removed, the Electabuzz was heavily injured enough for Clemont to throw a Pokéball at the downed target and was caught with ease. Using his invention dubbed the Aipom Arm, he grabbed the Pokéball with scientific plans in mind. Brock just focused on the task at hand and had Graveler use Sand Attack to lessen the flames.
A Haunter snuck in through the shadows, cackling menacingly and loomed about. However, an Alolan Marowak brandished his bone as Kiawe Alamea challenged the specter. "Marowak, use Shadow Bone!" The Fire-type trainer ordered. Marowak charged with a ghastly flame-covered bone and slammed into Haunter.
A Crobat launched forward only for a Psybeam to halt it before being hit with a Hidden Power. The attacker was none other than a Braixen who belonged to Serena Yvonne, who strolled onto the battlefield with sharp eyes.
A person that made Ash's heart flutter while he watched the younger trainers at work. But being pulled back by Professor Oak made Ash come back to reality. "Aw, come on! Let me out please?" Ash pleaded/begged, "I need to make my mark!"
"Oh you've made plenty of marks," Oak reminded him sternly. "There was the time with the Spearows-"
"Pichu managed to ward them off!"
"The Beedrill swarm-"
"I was barely stung!"
"Oh, and how can I forget? That one time with the Tauros!"
Ash rolled his eyes at how his mentor constantly brought up the embarrassing moments of his endeavors to make a decent capture of a wild Pokémon during the attacks. "Please, just two minutes! I'll catch a rampaging Pokémon! Maybe even an Alpha! My life will instantly get so much better. I may even get a date!" Ash pleaded.
"Your partner is not ready for combat!" Oak admonished as an Arbok slithered by and hissed before being punched by a trainer's Poliwrath's Dynamic Punch.
"Ok, so I don't have a proper partner who is battle ready," Ash admitted while mentally kicking himself. Despite Pichu being tiny, he made up for it with courage. And Ash had several Pokémon back at his house that were more battle-ready. But he usually took Pichu because he wanted him to evolve. "But why do that when I can use this!" Ash introduced a large invention with a net to launch. He wasn't the best craftsman but it did work.
Accidentally when it caught a trainer and their Pokémon.
"See! This is what I'm talking about!" Oak admonished as Dragonite managed to free the captured before flying into the air and barrelling with Dragon Rush through several Flying-types.
"That was an accident!" Ash defended but Oak was having none of that.
"If you want to catch a rampaging wild Pokémon, you need to stop all of… this." Oak gestured at the boy.
"You just gestured to all of me." Ash deadpanned as Pichu hopped on his shoulder.
"Exactly! All of you." Oak clarified which made Ash groan in annoyance as he was handed a Pokéball that was malfunctioning. "Fix this now." Oak ordered as Dragonite landed and went back to guarding the building.
Ash did as he was told while Pichu looked at the wild Pokémon.
Capturing a wild, rampaging, or Alpha Pokémon was the only thing that mattered in this region. Ash managed to get a glimpse outside as he witnessed any Pokémon.
Normal were too common, Bug-types were jumpy and skittering, Ghost and Dark-types were illusive, Fire types were mad powerful -he could get a date with that-, Water, Grass, Electric-type could be difficult. Psychic, Poison, Flying, Fighting, Rock, Steel, or Ground would be great, double the status. Ice-types didn't attack often but that would be a score, Fairy-types were too… whimsical for a boy like him -and rare-. Dragon-types were only targeted by the best trainers.
But the ultimate prize were the Pokémon that struck fast, did massive damage, and hardly seen.
A bright pink of energy was fired from the sky and hit several skilled trainers' Pokémon. Red and several other trainers looked to the sky but saw nothing.
"That move… I think it was Luster Purge," a trainer with her Alakazam noted.
"Which means… we have a Legendary on our hands." Red grimly said.
At the lab, Ash looked up to the sky with a determined glare. Whatever that Pokémon would be a definite guarantee to earning some respect.
"Watch the lab, Ash. They need me and Dragonite out there together," Oak said as he donned a black shirt and attached his gloves. He made his way outside before turning back and sternly said, "Stay put." With the order given the professor joined in the battle royale.
Of course, like a typical person wanting to prove himself, Ash and Pichu snuck off with the contraption.
"Pichu…" The yellow mouse chittered somewhat nervous.
"We'll be fine, Pichu." Ash said, trying to ease the mouse's growing worries. Pichu did know how to fight but he only knew Thunder Shock, Growl, Sweet Kiss, and Charm. Nothing to do real damage.
Once at a secluded spot any from the battlefield, Ash primed his weapon and aimed it out the sky. "Come on… just give me a sign." Ash secretly prayed.
A few seconds later, another pink burst of energy was fired, close to Ash and Pichu. Which was all that was needed.
Ash fired the contraption and heard a shrill pained cry as whatever it had it, was hurt and injured.
"Ha!" Ash cheered as Pichu looked in surprise, "Did you see that Pichu!? We hit it! We hit it!" This was a dream come true for him. "Did anyone see that?" Ash said aloud.
"AERO!"
An Alpha Aerodactyl -indicated by the red glowing eyes- slammed down, crushing the invention as Ash and Pichu backed away in fear at the pterosaur.
"Of course, you did." Ash lamented. He kicked himself for not bringing any Pokéballs. "Pichu, use Thunder Shock!"
Pichu sparked and fired a weak stream of electricity that hardly fazed Aerodactyl. The pterosaur glowered at the two, making Ash gulp as Pichu backed away.
"Arceus have mercy…"
A cry of help was heard back at the battlefield and Red turned to see Ash, holding Pichu, as the pterosaur chased them in hot pursuit.
"Venusaur!" Red ordered and the Seed Pokémon unleashed a Leaf Storm, striking the Fossil Pokémon. Ash hid behind a wall as the pterosaur was hit.
Aerodactyl hissed and prepared a Fire Fang only for two vines to grasp him. Venusaur tugged hard and slammed the pterosaur into the ground before Red threw a Pokéball, catching the Fossil Pokémon. The attack was over as most Pokémon were retreating.
Ash timidly came out from behind the wall with Pichu still in his arms and felt the glares of all the trainers on him. The most notable one was Red.
Ash swallowed a lump in his throat and meekly said, "Sorry… dad."
He really hoped Arceus had mercy on his soul.
