"Eric, your presence in court is required." Andre said into the phone from his Queens gaudy over the top office.
"Andre, hello. How great to hear from you." Eric said condescendingly into the phone. He had absolutely no intention of turning up in court the next night.
"Sheriff…." Andre said changing his tone. "It's important, you know she wouldn't summon you for something frivolous."
"It will be a private audience and I will be granted my leave before midnight. I will also be bringing my progeny and I expect red carpet treatment for her while I am in my meeting with the queen." Eric stated his terms. Pam did love a good palace donor buffet. She had been a good girl lately, this would kill two birds with one stone because she was due a reward. He had learned 200 years ago that reward based discipline worked best to manage his progeny.
"Of course, Sheriff. She will see you are first dark." Andre said and hung up the phone.
The next night Eric and Pam walked into the palace. Pam was in an elegant cocktail dress, thats was a metallic pink color. It had a strapy neck line and a dangerously high slit. Eric however was in black jeans, boots and had a black button-down tucked in. He had wasn't dressing up for the Queen. About a hundred years ago they had come to an agreement that she would be allowed to remain the regent in this state, as he had no desire to rule. In return he would have his private corner to rule and he would keep take over threats at bay. The only vampire older than him living in America was his own Maker, who spends much of his time with Eric and Pam. The Gaul bloodline likes to stay close. Why she would summon him he didn't know. He preferred when she came to him.
Pam parted ways with him when a member of the Queens guard named Rasul escorted her to court so she could enjoy the party. Andre walked Eric to the Queens sun room, which Eric had always found stupid and ostentatious. Andre opened the doors, but stopped his advance leaving just Eric to walk in. He shut the doors behind him. Sophie was in a cream pant suit and was lounging on some sort of pool furniture. He also noticed a woman, he assumed a donor laying on the ground in the corner. She was just flat on her back, arms defiantly crossed on her chest. She smelled good, but he decided to ignore her.
"Eric, darling. I'm glad you came." Sophie cooed trying to embrace him and kiss his cheeks. He shoved her away knocking her back onto her chair, which made the defiant woman on the floor giggle. He glanced over at her and smirked, but took a seat across from Sophie and lounged back like he owned the place.
"Why am I here?" He asked cutting to the chase.
"I have a problem with a new asset I acquired." She said. Eric looked over when the woman laying on the floor snorted. He was getting the idea she had something to do with why he was there.
"What kind of asset? Whats the problem?" He asked.
"It's a telepath, but it isn't dependable and it's refusing to work." She whined.
"Is that woman on the floor the telepath?" He asked. Sophie looked guilty and nodded. He stood and walked over. He looked down at the woman who looked as if she had been repeatedly brutalized. She was covered in marks in varying states of healing. He didn't smell cum on her, at least he hadn't been raped.
"No wonder she isn't dependable, you have brutalized her. Miss, can you stand?" He asked and reached down to help her up, but she flinched. "I will not strike you." He assured her and she tentatively took his hand and stood up. He walked her to the couch he had been sitting on and motioned for her to sit.
"She has been uncooperative since the moment she arrived." Sophie whined.
"Arrived? You make it sound like you didn't kidnap me out of my front yard!" The telepath yelled.
"You kidnapped her?" Eric said, raising an eyebrow.
"She is a human, I sent my procurer to bring her to me as soon as I learned of her existence." Sophie said and Eric sighed and rubbed his face. It was a decidedly human mannerism that the telepath hadn't seen out of any of the other vampires she had come across in the last two weeks. She could tell from the gravity of his void he was much much older than any vampire she had met yet.
"You sent Bill Compton to steal a telepath for you? From what area?" Eric asked the frustration in his voice evident.
"Area 5." She whispered.
"My area?" He growled and leaned forward. The telepath flinched and cowered. He reached over and just patted her knee trying to reassure her he was no threat to her.
"It's still my state." The Queen said trying to sound confident.
"Because I allow it." He growled, and zipped over to her at vampire speed, taking her by the throat.
"You sent a vampire to my area unannounced, you kidnapped a woman who is clearly not actually a human since she has TELEPATHY, you then beat her to try to get her to use her ability for you? Tell me why I shouldn't kill you and all of your children?" He seethed holding her up, her feet dangling, both of their fangs down.
"Because then you will be king?" She wheezed out. Panic in her voice evident. He squeezed her neck until cracking sounds happened, then he threw her harshly to the ground.
"You will treat my progeny to the night of her life. Tomorrow, Rasul will escort her home to fangtasia. I will be returning the telepath to her home." The Queen was on all fours, gasping on the ground. She just held up a thumbs up and Eric turned to the cowering girl on the couch.
"What is your name?" He asked, his tone now calm and kind. He crouched down in front of where she was curled up.
"Sookie." She whispered.
"Sookie, here is my phone. I'm sure someone is looking for you. Call them. Then I will bring you home, where do you live?" He handed her his phone and she cautiously took it.
"Bon Temps." She whispered.
"You do not need to fear me. I will not beat you. I find beatings a terrible way to inspire loyalty or compliance in mortals." He turned to Shoot the Queen another dirty look.
"If you say so." Sookie said, not really believing him. She dialed her Grans house.
"Hello?" Gran answered, it was clear she was distraught by her voice.
"Gran?" Sookie said starting to cry.
"Oh Sookie! Are you okay?" Gran cried into the phone.
"I am…. I'm coming home." Sookie said sniffling.
"What happened?" Gran asked. Sookie looked to Eric who motioned to her to give him the phone.
"Hello, this is Sookies Grandmother?" He said into the phone sounding like he was just having a casual conversation.
"Yes! Who are you why did you take my baby!" Gran yelled furious into the phone.
"I did not take her, But I will be returning her tonight. My name is Eric Northman, I am the Vampire Sheriff of Area 5 which includes most of Northern Louisiana. The Vampire Queen took her against her will from your front yard. That is not acceptable and I extend my deepest apologies. She will be back in her bed before sunrise and I will see to her safety as long as she remains inside my territory."
"She was taken by Vampires!" Gran cried. "Has she been turned or hurt?"
"She has been beaten, She has multiple injuries in various states of healing. I would like to send a doctor to see her during the day tomorrow to ensure there is no lasting damage." He said and Gran sobbed into the phone.
"Why?" Gran asked meekly.
"Her telepathy. I'll admit, it's an interesting talent, but I have lived 1200 years without a telepath, I'm confident I can live the rest of eternity without one. She will be free in my territory. If she leaves I cannot guarantee her safety."
"I always knew this was a risk." Gran sniffled. "Can you mark a map for me with the boundaries of your territory?"
"Of course, I will have some information dropped off by my Day man tomorrow. I will give you back to Sookie." He handed Sookie back his phone and she spoke a bit to her Gran before she hung up. Eric just scowled at the Queen who had gotten up off the floor and sat on her lounge.
"Sookie, we must leave to get you home in time." He extended his hand to her which she nervously accepted. "Sophie, Send Bill Compton to me in a silver coffin when Pam is returned to me. He will be punished for his actions in my area." Then he bent over and got in her face once again and growled. "If you or yours set foot unannounced in my area again I will burn your kingdom to the ground and end your entire blood line. You have broken our agreement, you are fortunate I am a merciful vampire." He punctuated his words by slapping her and sending her flying across the room before he walked out, Sookie in toe holding his hand.
Walking out to his Corvette he opened the passenger side door for her and offered her his hand to help her in. She took it and sat down, Buckling in. Eric pulled out and started his way to Bon Temps, driving at wholly inappropriate speeds, but he wanted back in his territory as soon as possible.
"Why are you doing this?" Sookie finally asked after about an hour.
"Because we are post reveal. The fellowship of the sun is cropping up everywhere and frankly, its moronic to kidnap and beat your telepath when you are dependent on the quality of the information they are giving. Vampires must tread carefully, we need to adapt. Also, Like I said I find the practice of abusing mortals counter productive." Eric said plainly.
"I wasn't telling her shit." Sookie said defiantly.
"She should have offered you a cushy employment contract and been in her best behavior. Rome fell because Romulus was an ass hole to his psychic. He would have been able to deal with the Germanic tribes if he hadn't have been so barbaric with her causing her to withhold her visions." Eric said.
"Will you expect me to work for you?" Sookie asked quietly.
"No, not unless you want to. Vampires have glamor. It's easy for me to get information from humans. I wouldn't turn you away if you wanted a job, but I will live plenty more nights without your talents." He said looking at her and smiling.
"How old are you?" She asked.
"1,200 give or take 50 or so years." He said with a shrug.
"Your mind, has a weight to it. It's…. It almost feels good to sit next to. When we were holding hands it was like you turned my telepathy off. It was such a relief. Your void is the only vampire void I have met that feels like that. I think it's your age." She said now starting to relax, not completely, but just enough.
"My maker is 2,500 years dead. You will have to meet him I bet holding his hand would be like a spa day for you."
"Did he know Jesus?" Sookie asked in awe.
"No, he was in South east Asia at the time. We both fought in the crusades though."
"Wow…. Thats incredible. Whats a progeny?" Sookie asked.
"My vampire child. I turned her over 200 years ago." Eric said with pride. Pam was his pride and joy.
"Whats a maker?"
"Did they do nothing but beat you while you were at the palace? How are you supposed to use your telepathy for vampire business if you know nothing of vampires?" Eric asked shocked.
"It was mostly beatings, but even if I heard something nefarious from a mind I wouldn't have been telling them shit. Fuck em." Sookie said indignantly making Eric chuckle.
"A maker is the vampire you made you. I am my progenies maker, My maker is who turned me." Eric said mirth in his voice.
"Like a vampire Mom or Dad?" She asked.
"My Maker and I have always been more like brothers as far as classifying relationships in human terms goes. For My Pamela, I am more of her Father." Eric clarified.
"Sophie is Andres maker, isn't she?" Sookie said thinking.
"And sigbert, and Wybert." Eric added.
"She has sex with them, Do you have sex with your child?" Sookie asked. Eric laughed and shook his head.
"My Pamela is a lesbian. I lack the equipment to please her. We have an intimacy, because she is my child, but no we do not sleep together. My Maker and I also don't have a sexual relationship like Sophie and her children. Some vampires do, some don't. If you were lovers before you were turned you tend to. Also, I turned My Pamela because she looked like my daughter from my human life. Thats what drew me to her and ultimately what made me choose to turn her." He explained, they were not prudes around one another, but they weren't fucking like Sophie and her children. She always liked to turn her favorite lovers though.
"Your Pamela?" Sookie asked.
"Pamela is mine." Eric said with finality.
"Okay, I wasn't trying to take her from you. You just sounded possessive. I was clarifying." Sookie said trying to back track. Eric chuckled. Like anyone could take his child from him.
"I am possessive of what is mine. I would fight to my final death for my child. She is my everything, as I am to my own Maker."his tone was not hostile, but stern.
"Are all vampire families like this? You all stay together?" Sookie asked.
"No, it's actually quite abnormal for makers to stay with their children for so long. Sophie and I are the exception not the rule. Most vampires are released by their makers after 100 years or so. At very least they are allowed to leave their makers side. My Maker has never released me. And I have not released My Pamela. We wouldn't, I would not want to be released. My Pamela has never expressed an interest in it either. She did once spend 30 years in Minnesota without me." He explained.
"What was she doing in Minnesota?" Sookie asked.
"Ummm, something with Horses. She really enjoys Horses. I had just become Sheriff of my Area and Sophie was adjusting to our agreement. Pam taking a vacation while I settled things was imperative. She at the time was too young to fight still, She is also very pampered. I have taught her to defend herself and what is hers, but I do not want her to have to. I prefer she lives an easy existence."
"You spoil her." Sookie said with a smile.
"Absolutely rotten." He said with a laugh.
"Does she work?" Sookie asked, just enjoying getting to know Eric now.
"Right now yes. She wanted to start a vampire tourist bar after the great reveal. I help her run her endeavor. I would never make her work though. It's my duty to support and care for her."
"Does your maker support you?"
"No." He laughed. "I have always supported myself while with my Maker. It's just different." Eric said with a shrug.
"Because you are a man, and you think it's your duty to care for your woman." Sookie smiled.
"I suppose." He grinned.
"So old fashioned." She giggled.
"Do the men in your family not care for you?" Eric asked confused.
"HA! No…. My brother is…. He's a handful. I take care of my Gran. My parents died when I was 5, I don't remember my Daddy. My grandfather was…. Well, he was who he was. Let's just say my Gran got healthier once he was gone. In Fact, after missing two weeks of work I'm not sure how I'm going to pay the bills." She scoffed.
"I will make sure you are compensated for your lost wages. You are in no condition to work." He pointed to her many injuries.
"Eric, I have to go back to work. I'm a waitress, I'll be lucky if I even still have a job." She sighed. She knew it was going to be painful to work for a while.
"Where do you waitress?" Eric asked.
"Merlottes."
"Oh, The shifters bar. Thats convenient." He said pulling out his phone. Shifter? Sookie though confused.
"Shifter, its the Northman….. yes, I am returning your waitress Sookie to her home the Queen had her….. no no, she will be undisturbed in my area…. Yes, not permanently damaged, but she will need time to heal…. Yes, I will send you a waitress for Fangtasia to fill in for her until she is well…. Yes, I am paying compensation….It's Sophie, you know how she is…. Yes yes I do… would you like to speak with her?" Eric said into the phone. He handed it over to Sookie who tentatively took it.
"Hello?" She asked.
"Cher! Are you okay?" Sam sighed.
"I am, how do you know the vampire Sheriff?" She asked confused. She heard him shuffle and shut a door before he said.
"I'm a shape shifter. I have to be registered with him to own a business in his area." Sam explained speaking low.
"Can I trust him?" She asked not caring Eric could hear her. Eric just smiled.
"He's a fair guy. I live in his territory by choice." Sam said diplomatically.
"Okay." Sookie said staring over at Eric. "Has Gran been okay?"
"She's been a basket case." Sam sighed "Your brother got arrested for drunk and disorderly. She couldn't afford to bail him out. Tara has been staying with her to help her since you went missing." Sam said and Sookie let out a small wimpier and started crying again.
"Thank God for Tara." Sookie said sniffing.
"I'll come by to see you tomorrow, Cher. Take all the time you need. Eric will keep your job covered until you are ready. Let him compensate you too. Thats how things are done with Supes. It's not charity, it's his duty to make things right since you were harmed in his fiefdom." Sam said, Eric could hear everything and appreciated the shifter giving her advice.
"Okay, I'll see you tomorrow."
"Okay, Take care Sook." Sam said before hanging up. Sookie gave the phone back.
"So you aren't just being nice, you owe me?" She asked.
"I could have left you there. I am a vampire of honor though. I feel I owe you. I shall ensure your brothers release also, if you wish." Eric said.
"I wish." Was all she said back. Thinking about the difference between Eric and the Queen.
"You are not human." Eric said after taking a long sniff of the air.
"I sure am." Sookie said back with a shrug.
"Telepathy is a common human trait? Probably right up there with flight." Eric said sarcastically.
"No one else in my family is like me. It's just a quirk." She said defensively.
"You don't smell entirely human. I'm not sure what you are mixed with, or if it is multiple species, but you are only half human at the very most. You smell very very strongly of magic. You also smell very sweet like a fairy. Something a little spicy too." He picked up her arm and sniffed her wrist. She took it back sharply and he allowed it. "I'd have to taste you to get a better idea of what you are. I can also ask the doctor coming to see you tomorrow to look into it." He said nonchalantly.
"Are you saying I'm adopted or something?" Sookie said concern in her voice.
"No, it's not uncommon for generations to pass without magic when human is involved. Humans are devoid of magic. They can be an ingredient in magic, like how we take their blood for food or some humans are beneficial in a witches coven. Over all they tend to drown magic."
"Witches are real?" Sookie asked astonished.
"My God's…. Sophie Ann really didn't do anything but beat you, did she." He sighed. "Yes, natural born witches are real, were animals are real, shape shifters are real, faries, demons, elves, brightlings, trolls, among other things all very very real. It's not just telepaths and vampires out here." He joked.
"Wooooooow, why did Vampires come out of the coffin?" She asked.
"Officially, we wanted to normalize relations since synthetic blood was made and we could live without human blood. For the record, we cannot. We can consume synthetic blood, but it will not heal us or keep us strong. A vampier consuming nothing but synthetic would eventually die. Unofficially, the advent of the internet and the police state with cameras everywhere made it difficult, if not impossible for us to continue to stay hidden. It was come out on our terms or be exposed and have to go with whatever narrative came with that."
"Why are you telling me all this?" She asked.
"You need to be aware. You are now a target. People are aware of you and the Queen already tried to take you once. She only called me because she thought you were broken and wanted me to fix you. Knowledge is power. The more you know the better you can protect yourself if you do not want to work for a vampire." His tone had gone from cordial to deadly serious.
"Should I be scared?" She quivered
"Fear clouds the mind and judgment. You should be cautious. If someone comes, takes you and turns you, theres not much I can do about that. You can avoid that by being aware of vampire nature."
"I don't want to be taken and turned! How do I prevent that?" She almost cried.
"You could find a strong vampire and become theirs, get a bonded."
"I don't even know what that means…." She sighed.
"I will send my progeny to you in three nights time to give you a supernatural crash course. She is a very good and patient teacher. She has also been looking for "girlfriends" and I think you two would get along. She also 'wouldn't do shit' under duress." He chuckled and Sookie smiled.
"She's so spoiled you even find her friends for her." Sookie giggled.
"I'm wrapped around her little finger, what can I say?" He smiled.
"It's funny, you talk about her like she's your actual child." Sookie mused.
"Because she is, she was 19 when I turned her. She needed to finish being raised as a person and taught to be a vampire. I also turned her with the intention of having a daughter like relationship with her. Makers choose children for many different reasons. I was selected because my Maker wanted another warrior to walk the nights with him. He turned me after watching me on the battlefield for many nights. I wanted a daughter, so I selected Pam. Some makers want lovers, some want slaves or someone weak they can easily dominate."
"Your Maker only made one vampire for himself?" Sookie asked.
"I had a sister, she met her final death in 1656." Eric said tightly.
"I'm so sorry for your loss." Sookie said sincerely. Eric was surprised by her reaction.
"It was 370 years ago." He shrugged.
"How old was she?" Sookie asked.
"About Pam's age."
"Wow, so young. I'm sorry. That had to have been hard on your Maker too." Sookie sympathized. Eric thought it was incredible that sookie thought 250 years old was young, but for a vampire it sort of was.
"It was very hard on him, She was his lover. He still grieves for her" He said and looked with shock as Sookie took his hand and patted it like she was soothing him. It was an entirely human gesture. He didn't find himself completely disgusted by it though. It was almost soothing.
"Have you considered turning a lover?" Sookie asked curiously after a few moments of silence.
"I have never taken a woman in my heart like that."
"Wow, Eric… 1200 years and you still haven't found love. Thats not making me feel good about my odds." Sookie said shaking her head.
"Are the men of Bon Temps of poor caliber?" Eric jokingly asked. Sookie chuckled.
"It's mostly my Telepathy. If I touch someone, their thoughts are amplified. That and I can start to see memories and I have no choice but to wander their mind. I don't like being touched because of that. Touching is a pretty important part of dating. I have just sort of given up. The men in Bon Temps are also just not my type too. it's a two fold issue, but mostly the telepathy." She explained.
"But vampires are voids and you like when we touch you?" He inquired.
"Yes and no, yes you are voids. No, I only liked when you held my hand because it was comforting and gentle." She clarified.
"Do you wish me to keep touching you?" Eric asked her his eyes twinkling.
"I think I'm good for now." She said and blushed.
"Well, let me know if the situation ever changes. My hands are always available to you for touching." He said waggling his brows making her nervously giggle and blush again.
The rest of the trip was mostly quiet because Sookie started to fall asleep and Eric wanted her to rest. She would need much of it to heal from her injuries. He finally pulled up to Sookies farmhouse and and an old woman who Eric assumed was her grandmother was sitting outside on the swing. She jumped up and ran to the car as they pulled up.
"Sookie, wake your Grandmother is here." Eric said as he brought the car to a stop. Sookie shot up and was nearly out of the car before it stopped. They had a tearful reunion and her grandmother wept seeing the state of her. Eric understood her rage. He had silvered vampires for just being rude to his child before. The rage he would feel if she was harmed like Sookie would be immeasurable. Eric spoke briefly to Gran explaining the doctor was coming tomorrow as well as preparing her for Pam's visit to educate Sookie on Supes and protocol so she can be better prepared for what will inevitably come for her. He also assured her Jason would be free by tomorrow afternoon. The old woman hugged him tightly and he politely patted her. Now when Sookie hugged him goodbye, now that was one he eagerly returned. He liked her, she was spunky and she had the most interesting reactions. He hoped to see her again under better conditions. Ideally, a personal call. That would be all up to Sookie though. He didn't want to pressure her, he also wasn't completely sure what he wanted from her in general.
The next night he rose and had a message for him to call Ludwig. He was eager to hear what she had found.
"Vampire." The doctor tersely answered the phone.
"What is she?" He asked cutting to the Chase.
"Half human and a mix of fairy, natural witch and deamon."
"How do those things end up mixing?" He mused. Sookie was quite the unique little creature.
"The grandmother is an untrained natural witch, she humped a fairy because her husband was infertile. The deamon is a mystery, but I think that was pretty far back. it's very diluted."
"Fascinating." Eric said still laying in bed in his chamber.
"Send my fee immediately." The troll doctor barked and hung up. Eric smiled Sookie was a little magic mutt. He briefly wondered if her heritage would affect her turning, but then he dismissed the thought as just mere curiosity.
On Sunday, Pam arrived at the Farmhouse at 7. Sookie greeted her warmly.
"Pam, won't you please come in."
"You have a lovely home." Pam said politely as she stepped in. It was old and a bit run down, but it was clean and orderly. She could tell the Stackhouse women took pride in their home, even if it was humble. She could appreciate that. Eric had told her to dress very casually and not wear or drive anything too flashy. He wanted Sookie to like him and she was a reflection on him. At first, she thought it was wild for him to not want his wealth reflected in her if he wants this girl to like him, but now she understood. Sookie was not going to be impressed by money. She internally giggled, because if her maker wanted her to like him and money wasn't going to impress her he was going to have to find some new moves.
"Thank you, it's been in our family for 200 years. I know thats probably just a blip to vampires." She nervously laughed out.
"Not to me, I'm only 257." Pam said as she casually strolled around taking in the home. "May I see your bed chambers?" Pam asked sweetly. She had been instructed to gather information about what Sookie likes without being too obvious or mentioning that Eric had told her to do it.
"My what?" Sookie asked confused.
"Your bed chambers, where you go to rest." Pam clarified.
"My room?" Sookie asked.
"If thats what you call your personal space. I have a bed chamber." Pam said with a smile.
"Umm, yeah. Follow me." She turned to the stairs as the tiny blonde vampire followed her. Sookie thought it funny she looked every bit the 19 she was when she was turned. She even dressed like a 19 year old with her pink and white checkered mini skirt and white crop top. Sookie led her to the end of the hall on the second floor and opened her door.
"So this is my room." She said motioning her hand around. Pam entered and started looking around. She started making mental notes of things she saw. Romance novels, stuffed otters, Pokemon cards, lego sets, a glass 5 gallon jug half full of coins.
"Oh, Barbies." Pam said excitedly as she found the box of Sookies old toys peaking out from under some books in the corner. More romance novels.
"You like Barbies?" Sookie asked.
"Yes, very much. My Master Eric always gets me the holiday barbies each year. One to play with and one to keep in the box for collecting." Pam said proudly.
"You call him Master?" Sookie said almost laughing.
"Of course, he's my Master. I guess this will be Supe lesson number 1. Vampires call their superiors master. Eric is my maker, thus my master. All the vampires in his territory other than his Master call him master or Sheriff if they are addressing him in the context of his position as Sheriff." Pam explained as she looked through the box finding a few Barbies she hadn't seen before she found particularly interesting.
"Eric calls his maker Master?" Sookie asked.
"In public, at home he calls him Godric. Godric calls him Child or his Love. Eric calls me HIS Pamela or Baby." Pam preened as she talked about her maker.
"Baby?" Sookie asked, Pam turned and leveled her with a look and said.
"Because I am his Baby."
"Yeah, he explained you are his daughter, and he loves spoiling you." Sookie smiled and opened the box that held her barbie clothes.
"I work very hard to make him proud so he wants to spoil me. He works hard, he deserves a good progeny. In return I deserve to be spoiled." Pam said matter of factly.
"My Gran always gets excited to get me something nice." Sookie said, understanding what she was saying.
"See you get it, you are a good granddaughter, so she enjoys rewarding you. It's the same thing for Eric and I." Pam said. Changing some of the dolls shoes. She had now sat on the floor to get more comfortable.
"How old was Eric when he was turned?" Sookie asked.
"Between 25 and 28. He cant know for sure. He lived before calendars. How old are you?" Pam asked.
"I'm 24."
"Do you think my Maker is handsome?" Pam asked out of the blue making Sookie gasp and sputter a little bit.
"Well, I mean… of course. I think everyone does. Most vampires are very attractive." Sookie said trying to sound… calm. Eric was sex on a stick, but she didn't need that information getting back to him.
"You are very pretty, even with the bruises. I can tell you are lovely. I'm sorry you were hurt. Andre is a cunt. He's the very very worst. I hate him. He literally has killed puppies. I can't stand him." Pam said with gusto.
"Andre is awful! How did you know he did most of this?" Sookie asked.
"Because I know Andre. Sophie lets him run amuck. He has no discipline and he makes erratic, illogical choices." Pam said as she moved the box between her and Sookie so they could dress the barbies together.
"Eric likes you to be disciplined? I would have thought all the spoiling would make you… well, spoiled. No offense." Sookie said taking a doll and choosing an outfit for her. She found Pams company soothing. She never got to just sit and play barbies as a kid because her telepathy made playdates unpleasant. This whole thing was cathartic almost.
"Eric requires me to be well mannered and disciplined. I need to be a good reflection on him. Hence, I deserve my spoiling.
"That makes sense. Eric is very well mannered. A bit of a flirt, but well mannered." Sookie said.
"You can't be glamoured." Pam said absently, again taking the conversation on a sudden turn.
"No, I cant. They had to chloroform me when they took me because when they tried to glamor me at work it didn't work."
"Did they have Violet try? Deep Glamor is her vampire gift."
"She did, it still didn't work. What is a vampire gift?" Sookie asked.
"Its a special skill. We all have one. I have a perfect memory and recall, Eric can fly, Godric can fight the pull of the sun without the bleeds. My bartender, Chow has extreme speed faster than even the oldest vampires. Eric's investigator Ronan is good at finding things… I know that one sounds silly, but its actually his gift."
"I bet he never loses a sock in the laundry." Sookie mused.
"I doubt it, you can ask if you ever meet him." Pam shrugged.
"What is Bill Comptons gift?" Sookie asked
"Why ask about him specifically?"
"I hate him. He's who snatched me. Then he tried to seduce me like he didn't just kidnap me." Sookie said.
"Math, he's very good at math." Pam giggled.
"Good, I'm glad he has a lame gift." Sookie said with satisfaction.
"His maker is unimpressive too. She has good balance, thats her gift."
"She's hard to knock over?" Sookie giggled.
"Basically, it's a very very weak bloodline." Pam said shaking her head.
"So, what else should I know thats super important about supernaturals?" Sookie asked.
She and Pam sat until 3am talking about the supernatural world, with a heavy focus on Vampires and Were's since thats who she will encounter the most. When Sookie started to yawn, Pam started to bid her goodbyes.
"I want you to come see my bed chambers. I like you and I have lots of Dolls too. I also want to try building some of those with you." Pam said pointing to the legos on Sookies desk.
"Legos?"
"Yes, I have enjoyed our chat. You should also visit my Bar. It's a bit of a spectacle for vampire tourists and fang bangers, but I want to show it to you. It's my first business venture. I like to make my Master sit on the throne on the stage and just look menacing. It really enthralls the vermin." Pam said excitedly.
"Vermin?" Sookie asked a bit taken back.
"Yes, the humans who beg you to bite and turn them, that you never ever bite or turn." Pam explained, Sookie supposed that made sense.
"Ummm, we can exchange phone numbers and set something up. Bar's can be overwhelming for me when I'm out of practice so maybe we can just hang out at your house first and I can check out your bar after I finish healing and get my shields back in order." Sookie suggested.
"Splendid, text yourself from my phone." Pam said handing her her phone. Her background was a picture of her sitting on Eric's lap Grinning holding a gift bag Sookie recognized as Tiffanys. Sookie thought it was precious. She texted herself and handed Pam her phone back when she heard her own chime.
"I will text you later to make plans. Sleep well Sookie." Pam said as Sookie walked her out.
"Die easy." Sookie said making pam smile broadly. She got into her powder blue Audi TT and drove away. Sookie went inside smiling. Its not like she didn't have friends, but tonight was a whole new experience for her. She felt incredibly normal.
She laughed at the thought. The most normal she had ever felt was around Vampires.
A few weeks later, and regular texting with her new friend Pam, they made plans to meet at Pam house on a Monday night because the bar was closed. Sookie was almost completely healed now, and planning to go back to work on Tuesday, so it was the perfect opportunity.
"Pamela, what is this?" Eric asked about the human food and drinks she was lining up on their counter.
"I am having a friend over." Pam said trying to be casual. Really, she was hoping her Maker would be gone for a feed and fuck already, but he was lingering. She knew he had an interest in Sookie, but sookie was not the type who would take getting fucked then ignored because her master got board. Sookie wanted a relationship, and roses and love notes and whatnot. She just didn't see her Master being that kind of Vampire, so she was trying to hide her relationship with Sookie. She had also intentionally omitted much of the details from their first night together and made it seem like Sookie had barely registered him. She definitely wasn't telling him she and Sookie had been texting, sending meme's and videos, or developing inside jokes.
"A human?" He asked suspiciously. Pam knows better than to bring humans to the nest.
"No." She said, again not a lie.
"Then why all the human food?" Eric asked as he picked up one of the energy drinks and looked at the back. There were several there. Pam was clearly concerned about her friend getting tired.
"Many kinds of mortals eat food." Pam said dismissively.
"Pamela, who are you bringing into our nest?" Eric asked sternly setting the can down and leveling her with a look.
"My friend…." She said meekly .
"Pamela Swynford De Beaufort….." He growled, making her flinch a little.
"Sookie, Sookie will be here soon." She whispered.
"Oh, well Sookie is more than welcome here. I want to see her again. Why didn't you tell me?" Eric said cheerfully his entire demeanor changing and he turned almost giddy.
"well… I just… we are friends. She is my first real friend I can be completely honest with. She is not a vampire so I don't have to assume she is scheming. She is not human so I don't have to pretend to be a gentle lady and human myself. She has a dark sense of humor because she knows the inside of human minds. She is…." Pam stopped and then whispered "mine."
"She cannot be yours, Pamela. You are not old enough to protect her." Eric said, but really he was screaming on the inside because if she was going to be anyones she was going to be his.
"Or because you want her to be yours?" Pam asked defiantly, making Eric narrow his eyes at her.
"I would be within my rights." He leaned over and growled at the tiny vampire girl.
"Within your rights to have sex with her until you get board, then she gets her feelings hurt and I lose my friend!" Pam shrieked at him.
"She should be so lucky as to be my lover." Eric growled.
"I HATE you! You are a mean Maker!" Pam yelled and stomped down to her bed chambers and slammed her door.
Eric sighed. Godric had warned him about turning a teenager. They never really fully grow up. All of the mad vampire kings and Queens always tended to have been turned between 12 and 19. Eric had wanted a true child though, he asked for this. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. He then went to look at the food again. Was this what Sookie had said she liked, or did Pam just guess? He made a mental note to watch what Sookie chose, then have it around at all times and keep some in his office incase she ever decided to come visit him at work.
He went to the den to sit and wait for the doorbell to ring. It was the room closest to the door so he would be guaranteed to beat Pam to answer it. He shoved some of Pam's new books around. She had suddenly gotten into romance novels, which were just pornography without pictures. He wasn't sure what had Brought on this sudden change in her literary tastes, but she was apparently trying to read every romance novel ever written and fast.
The bell rang and he was up and had the door open before the chime was even done ringing. Sookie jumped a little at his unexpected speed. The first thing he noticed was how beautiful she was. Without the swelling and bruising she was absolutely stunning. She also smelled much much better without the stink of so many vampires all over her. She smelled good before, but now she smelled absolutely delectable.
"Hello, Sookie." He said with a wide smile.
"Oh, hey Eric. I umm…. I am supposed to be at Pam's house." She said nervously starting to fidget with the hem of her t-shirt. She was wearing tight black yoga shorts and a loose pink T-shirt the said Barbie on it. Eric recognized the shirt as the same one Pam had been wearing earlier. They were matching.
"This is where Pam lives. It's our nest." Eric said and reached behind her putting his hand on her back to guide her in.
"Oh yeah, Pam said vampires like to live in groups in nests." Sookie said nodding her head.
"My Maker lives here as well, he is in Dallas doing a favor for the king right now though."
"Yeah, recon on the fellowship. Pam told me. I'm coming to read her staff at the bar for fellowship members tomorrow night." Sookie said and Eric went rigid.
"She did not ask to use your gift did she?" He was furious. Sookie would never yield to him if she thought he only wanted her for her telepathy.
"Huh? No. I offered when she told me what Godric was doing. I had to practically fist fight her to get her to let me do it." Sookie said confused and a little offended.
"I'm paying her too. Because I would never take advantage of her." Pam said from behind them with her arms crossed.
"I told you, You don't have to pay me!" Sookie said exasperated.
"Yes I do! If I don't then I'm just using you." Pam said cocking her hip and staring at Sookie.
"You aren't using me if I offer! I don't want fellowship spys in your bar potentially laying in wait to murder you!" Sookie said throwing her hands up.
"I already murdered her, she can't be murdered again." Eric said and smirked. He gave a sheepish smile when both girls turned and gave him unimpressed stares. They both ignored him and went back to their conversation.
"I'm telling you Sookie, you could build a business. You would only take clients via word of mouth. All vampires would pay through the nose even to just have their day people vetted by a telepath. I could help you get started and be your first customer." Pam said enthusiastically.
"Yeah, but how is that different that what the queen did?" Sookie asked.
"It's all on your terms. You only take the clients you want. You work where you want. You get paid, and not in knuckle sandwiches." Pam explained, and Sookie thought hard about it. She wasn't looking forward to going back to being a waitress.
"How about I do it for you a few times and I can see how I tolerate it, then we can reopen the conversation?" Sookie conceded.
"Good, I won't allow you to low ball your fee either. You have a very very unique skill. My Maker has never met another and Godric has only met one in his whole existence. You must charge like people cant get what you are offering anywhere else." Pam said encouragingly. Eric watched as sookie thoughtfully nod. He smiled, She was beautiful and humble. She was a very very fascinating mortal.
"What was Sookie wanting to charge for her services?" Eric asked pam, who scoffed and said.
"$100 per mind."
"Thats way way too little. You shouldn't even show up to a job for less that 10k, and charge after that based on the size of the job." Eric said.
"Thats what I said!" Pam said to Eric excitedly. He beamed with Pride.
"Look at my little business woman." He reached over and hugged Pam. Sookie smiled at them.
"That just seems like so much money to charge for anything. I can hardly imagine ten thousand dollars, let alone the idea of making that much multiple times a night." Sookie sighed.
"You could run your business out of my bar. It would bring more vampires in to be attractions and because Eric's sheriffs office is there you would have protection. We could make you a space in the basement with the dungeons." Pam said excitedly.
"Dungeons?" Sookie gasped.
"Yes, for vampire punishments. Eric is the Sheriff. He must exact justice for vampire crimes." Pam said waving her hand dismissively.
"Yeah I guess. Is that where Bill is?" Sookie asked and both Pam and Eric grinned.
"Yes, it is." Eric said with an evil glint in his eye.
"In that case I completely understand the need for a dungeon." Sookie said with understanding.
"The bar is closed, do you want to go slice his flesh and throw silver powder into it later?" Pam suggested.
"Honestly, yeah I sort of do." Sookie said with a smile. Eric had to keep himself from stumbling backwards at her desire to exact a blood penalty.
"We can go now, then come back here. So you aren't very tired when we go. There is only one other vampire down there his name is Micky. He fed on a child." Pam said Grabbing the Red Bull and offering it to Sookie.
"A child? Can I stab and silver him too?" Sookie asked, instead choosing the iced coffee drink that was on the table. Eric made a mental note of what she picked.
"Can she, Eric?" Pam asked with a hopeful smile.
"I don't see why not. He's going to be down there for 100 years. " Eric said with a shrug following them out. He would have to go with them if they were in the dungeons.
"Won't he get stronger if he's there for 100 years?" Sookie asked knowing Vampires get stronger with age.
"No, we mostly starve vampires when they are being punished. He will not ever be an appropriate strength for his age. It will stunt his development. If anything he will be released permanently weaker than he went in." Eric explained.
"What about Bill? Will he be weakened?" Sookie asked as she got in Pams car, but Eric took Pams keys and moved her seat back making her frown as she got in the back seat.
"No, he is only being held and tortured for 90 days. That is the maximum penalty for entering my territory without permission." Eric said.
"Not kidnapping me?" Sookie asked unimpressed.
"Kidnapping humans is not a vampire crime. We would have no progeny if we had laws against taking humans. There are laws against damaging witches and faries, but I felt it best not to expose your heritage and attract more attention." Eric explained and sookie just nodded accepting his explanation.
"Did you want to be turned, Pam?" Sookie asked turning to the back seat. Erics eyes shot to the rearview mirror and watched Pam think.
"I didn't know I was being turned. Eric glamoured me and flew me away when I was standing on my balcony after a dinner party where I was meeting my husband to be. I didn't want the life that was ahead of me. I love being a vampire and I love being at my Makers side." Pam said after taking several moments to think.
"Thats nice for you. Eric gave you a better life. Being married to a man would probably have sucked for you." Sookie giggled.
"Eric didn't know I only like women at the time, but yes it's another line in the pro column. Eric has never cared the variety of lover I choose. I do enjoy closeness with him though. Sometimes when I have a particularly hard night laying in bed and cuddling my maker is all I want." Pam admitted smiling at Eric in the mirror.
"That must be nice, to always have someone who is on your side." Sookie said wistfully.
"You have your Gran." Pam reminded her.
"Yes, but I can't cuddle her after a hard day. I can hardly hug her because touching makes her mind so loud. I actually don't remember the last time I snuggled. I might not have ever done it. I remember crying and running away when I was very little and my parents tried to hug me. My Gran said I cried all the time as a baby unless I was left alone in my cot." Sookie said her voice was almost longing. She did chance moving her eyes slightly to glance at Eric. She imagined he was probably top tier at snuggling.
"That makes my heart hurt that you don't know physical intimacy." Pam said frowning.
"The only people I can touch without their minds screaming at me are Vampires and I had never met one until Bill snatched me. Then they proceeded to torture me for weeks. You and Eric are the only Vampires I have ever met who I like. It's not like I can date a vampire either. You're the one who told me it's very uncommon for a vampire to take a long term lover and I don't just want to be used and cast aside. Plus, my telepathy makes an a commodity. It would be hard to trust since everyone knows what I am now." Sookie said with a shrug and Eric tensed up.
She had already decided she didn't want a vampire. Didn't want him. Pam saw Eric getting agitated.
"Eric, calm down you're going to damage my car! I just bought this!" Pam almost yelled. He loosened his grip on the steering wheel and calmed himself. They arrived at Fangtasia and Eric pulled in by the back door. He zipped around to open Sookies door for her and she giggled and blushed again. Beautiful, he thought, Pam rolled her eyes and peeled herself out of the cramped back seat.
They walked in and Eric put the code in to the basement. Pam didn't know it because she was too young and vulnerable still. They all walked down the stairs and Sookie took in the dark hostile environment around her.
"Wow, you weren't kidding about a dungeon." She said looking at the litany of midivil looking torture devices laying around. Some coated in silver.
"You don't mess with what has already worked for millennia." Eric said with a cheerful smile.
"I suppose there's no need to reinvent the wheel." Sookie said, surprisingly calm for being in a vampire dungeon. She found she had an easy time trusting Pam and Eric.
"Here is Compton." Eric said opening a coffin that was attached to the wall. It was lined with silver and Bill tumbled to the floor in a crumpled heap groaning.
"So, how do I go about this?" Sookie asked standing nervously behind Eric. He put on leather gloves and dragged Bills body so It was laying flat then he placed a silver chain over his torso.
"Here, the knife is silver so the wounds will stay open longer. This is the silver powder, just don't get too excited with it because I don't want Pam and I to inhale it or get it on us." He said handing her a knife and a little jar.
"Okay, can he hear me?" Sookie asked.
"He can, he can also speak if he wants. I didn't take his tongue." Eric nodded. Sookie bent down still nervous to be near him and said.
"You stole me from my home and you scared my Gran." Sookie stabbed him, but it was shallow. She didn't anticipate how much force she would need to stab someone. She did it again and it went the full length on the knife that time. She opened the jar and sprinkled some silver in the wound making Bill cry out in pain.
"Yeah, Thats how I felt when they were beating me every night." Sookie said and quickly stabbed him two more times.
"I had to follow the orders of the queen." Bill groaned.
"Yeah well, looks like you shouldn't have this time. Pam also told me you applied for the job of procurer in her kingdom. You fought for that position. You wanted the job, now accept the consequences of having it. He opened his mouth again to speak, but Sookie quickly dumped the jar of sliver powder in his mouth making both Pam and Eric cringe in pain. Bills fangs and the rest of his teeth fell out as his mouth shriveled and burned. Bills screams now silent as his throat burned.
"This is more than I thought I was doing. I want to go." Sookie said and quickly stood. Eric threw a few more silver chains over Bill and left him on the floor. He took off the gloves and directed Sookie upstairs.
"Don't touch anything until you wash your hands." Eric instructed and Sookie nodded. Pam walked ahead of her to the employee washroom and opened the doors for her, started the water and put soap on her hands. Sookie washed her hands three times to be sure it was all off, including significantly up her arms just to be sure. She walked out and Eric was leaning against the bar waiting for them.
"You did wonderfully, Sookie. Quite ruthless. I'm sure Compton will consider his tactics more wisely for future assignments. You may feel you went too far, but this is how Vampires are deterred from poor behavior. Beatings and abuse may not work for mortals, but very often it is the only way to make a point with vampires. We are immortal, a time out will not make us think twice about doing something again." Eric explained to the sullen looking little hybrid.
"Yeah, losing 20 years probably wouldn't bother you. It's a blink in the span of your life." Sookie nodded as the truth of Erics words sank in.
"It would not." Eric said and Nodded, taking a chance and walking over to give her a hug. Sookie went stiff at first, but then melted into his embrace and returned it. Just enjoying the feeling of his body against hers. It didn't even bother her that he wasn't warm. Eric glanced at Pam who was scowling at him. He just smiled at her and rubbed Sookies back, making her contentedly sigh. Sookie pulled away with a smile on her face and walked over to hug Pam too. She noticed Pam was staring daggers at them and she thought maybe she was jealous she wasn't in on the hugs. From the way Pam spoke in the car she seemed to really like hugging and cuddling.
Suddenly Eric clutched his chest and Pam gasped.
"Eric….." Pam wheezed.
"Godric…." Eric hissed.
"What happened?" Sookie asked looking between them with concern.
"Godric abruptly closed our bond." Pam said recovering first. "Eric, is he okay?" She asked looking at Eric who was almost panting taking unneeded breaths. In 1200 years his maker had never closed the bond. The shock he felt from him right before it happened didn't help ease his concern.
"He's looking for fellowship. That doesn't sound good. He could be in danger." Sookie said clapping her hand over her mouth.
"Yes." Eric said now finally able to right himself. He was able to grasp at the tiny thread left of the bond where he could tell Godric was still alive. That was enough to help him think straight.
"We need to go to Dallas!" Pam exclaimed.
"Yes." Eric said his eyes darting around. His mind going a million miles a minute.
"Take me." Sookie said
"No." Eric grunted, but Pam looked at her her eyes urging her to continue pleading her case.
"Yes, I'm a telepath. The fellowship are humans. I can read them and find him faster. I can see if maybe he was betrayed by an infiltrator. I can know their plan if we find the right person." Sookie pleaded, She walked over and took his arm and said. "You helped me, let me help you. This will make us even." Eric studdied her carefully and said.
"You owe me no debt, but you may come. Hurry, we must leave now. Pamela, make us reservations at the Camilla. Do not alert anyone we are in the area. I will contact Stan to let him know we have entered the space. Sookie will stay in our room on the vampire floor. Sookie can you seem like you are glamoured?" Eric asked. Sookie made her mouth go slightly slack and stared out into nothing making her entire face vacant.
"Perfect, let us go. Pam, also order us clothing to have sent to the room at sundown. Sookie, call your Gran so she doesn't worry." Eric said as he grabbed both of their arms and pulled them out to Pam's car. This time Sookie scrunched into the back so Pam and Eric could discuss their plans. Gran understood why Sookie was going and she trusted Eric to protect her. She insisted she call her every day at dawn though which Sookie agreed.
Eric made the drive in record time. They arrived by 3am. Sookie put on her glamor face and Pam dragged her behind her like she was a dog. They were even checked into a 'pet friendly' vampire room, which apparently meant it would have a toilet. Sookie snickered at the term pet friendly being used. She had read the pets and donors at the palace. Some humans really were just fine being cattle and purse dogs. She didn't mind playing the part to help Pam and Eric.
As soon as they walked into the room. Eric walked away to make a call. Pam opened a box on the table and pulled out two nightgowns. They were silk and far far too sexy for Sookies tastes, But she took it anyway. Pam also pulled out a pair of black sleep pants. Sookie assumed for Eric.
"Go and shower and get ready for bed, We will be going to the nest Godric was staying at at first dark. You will need to be ready to walk out the door the second the sun sets. Pam explained and Sookie nodded and went to the bathroom to shower and right herself. When she was done, She walked out and Eric was walking around in his silk sleep pants and no shirt. Sookie drew in a sharp breath and he looked up catching her staring and gave her a smug smile and a wink before she scurried to the other side of the room to go stand by Pam who was also in her matching nightgown.
"Is everything ready for tomorrow?" Sookie asked her.
"Yes, we will go to the nest. You will be acting as Erics pet. You must sleep next to him tonight and not shower again so his scent it all over you. You smell like a virgin, so if anyone asks Eric likes how it makes your blood taste." Pam said as she turned the bed down. There was only one bed, but I guess it didn't matter since she had to rub all over Eric.
"Will he have to bite me?" Sookie asked nervously.
"No, it's well known I do not care for biting such obvious places as the neck. I prefer to drink from the breast or between the thighs." Eric said grinning at her and a blush exploded over her entire body.
"Well, okay then." She whispered and allowed Pam to push her towards the bed.
"Get in Sookie. You must sleep. We will go into downtime until sunrise so as not to disturb you. You need to be fresh for tomorrow night." Pam urged.
Sookie slid into the bed and Pam got in next to her. She slid Sookie over several times before Eric finally got in and grabbed her pulling her to him. He rubbed himself on her face and neck as he hugged her to him.
"Calm down. I will not hurt you." Eric whispered to her.
"Okay." She took a deep breath. This wasn't just her first snuggle. It was her first time being in this close of proximity to a man. She closed her eyes and tried to just concentrate on the feelings She was getting from laying and being held by someone.
"Eric?" Sookie asked quietly.
"Yes?"
"How do you know I'm a virgin?" She asked.
"We can smell it on you."
"Oh my goooooooood…." Sookie said embarrassed.
"If it makes you feel better we can smell if you have had sex and with who if it's relatively recently." Eric said with a smile in his voice.
"You can not….." Sookie said in shock.
"We absolutely can. If you take a vampires blood, we can smell them on you for months."
"Why would I drink a vampires blood?" Sookie asked.
"It can heal you, it can also let a vampire track you, they could also feel your emotions to a degree it helps them detect deception. I am told it feels damn good during sex, but I have only ever given my blood to Pam when I turned her." Eric explained.
"Godric has given his blood to several lovers. He likes the feeling." Pam said.
"Why haven't you, Eric?" Sookie asked.
"If you exchange three times you can create a bond. It's permanent until the human dies. The human can feel the vampires emotions. It's very intimate. Godric falls in love often and easily. I have never felt that strongly for a human to give them that power over me." Eric explained.
"What happens to the bond if you turn the human?" Sookie asked.
"Then they would be a bonded child. Bonded vampires cant be apart any significant period of time and have to keep exchanging blood for eternity. If one meets their final death, the other will perish soon after from the sorrow." Pam interjected.
"Are there a lot of bonded vampires?" Sookie asked.
"No, I only know of three sets personally." Eric said.
"Must be nice to have a love like that." Sookie said wistfully.
"Russel and Tablot fight and fuck constantly. Theres no in-between. They are either arguing or fucking." Pam snorted.
"To be fair, they were like that before Russel turned Talbot." Eric said with a shrug.
"I guess if thats how they want to spend eternity, thats good for them." Sookie said politely making Eric snicker next to her.
"You need to rest, Sookie. You need your strength." Eric said and hugged her close and kissed her head. She froze at the closeness of the action, but just stayed quiet and closed her eyes. She wasn't sure how long it took, but she eventually fell asleep.
She woke up trapped in Erics strong arms. Her hand was clasped in Pam's and she smiled. She had to get out from under them though. It was 4 and sunset was at 5:17. She struggled for a Monet until she felt Eric roll off of her.
"You're awake." She said surprised.
"I'm 1200 years old. I rise before the sun. There is food for you in the kitchenette. You must eat." Eric said and stood up taking her hand and practically lifting her off the bed. She nearly had a nip slip, or really a whole titty escape but she grabbed her top quickly. Eric sighed and said.
"What a pity, so close." She swatted him and he laughed. She went to the bathroom and he pulled a sandwich out of the fridge for her.
"The silk nighties may work for Pam, but I'm not built for these." Sookie said as she sat down to eat. Eric sat next to her and just smiled.
"Or perhaps you are perfectly built for them." Eric mused as he toyed with the thin little strap.
"You're just horny, and I'm the closest straight woman to you." She said as she took a bite.
"Yes, I am horny… but do not dismiss my attraction to you. You are a stunning woman, Sookie." Eric said still raking his eyes over her.
"Oh." She squeaked and took another bite. It was hard to not stare at his beautiful bare chest and the smattering of blonde hair across it.
"You are attracted to me." He said with a smile and a matter of fact tone.
"I am just eating." She said quickly.
"I can smell your arousal, Sookie. Your head was down, but you were looking at me and getting turned on." He said gleefully.
"Stop smelling me!" She gasped and blushed.
"No, never. Especially not now." He grinned and shut his eyes taking a deep breath. Sookie rolled her eyes, but stayed quiet and finished her food. She was careful to keep her eyes on her meal. Eric opened the door and brought a bag into the room. He tossed a plumb colored wrap dress and black flats at her and she dressed. He pulled out a black shirt and jeans for himself. He laid a light blue valor track suit over Pams still dead body.
"I'm surprised we aren't matching again." Sookie mused as she put the dress on.
"Honestly, me too. I think she is trying to talk me into making her a sister." Eric chuckled, but Sookie froze.
"You would turn me?" She asked with a gulp.
"Not without your permission. Plus, with your…. Complicated heritage I'm not sure how that would affect your turn, or if you could be turned. I wouldn't do it without consulting a vampire who is prolific in turning." Eric assured her
"Some vampires make a lot of children?" She asked.
"I know some who have hundreds. There is one vampire in Eastern Europe thats an absolute menace. He has thousands of children. He turns and dumps them within a year with very little education. He's over 3000 years old and unofficially rules the area with the brood of unruly children so theres not much anyone can do about it. His name is Appius, but he is also who history remembers as Vlad the impaler."
"Holy smokes…. What would you say is the average amount of vampires a vampire will make in their… ummm life?" Sookie asked.
"Honestly, zero. Most vampires don't survive to be 100 years undead. Magically speaking you cant turn a human until you are around 300. I know I say we are immortal, but on average a vampier tends to overplay their hand around 500 or so and meet their final death. To get to 1000, 2000, 3000 years undead is very uncommon. The older you get, the less issues you have to deal with because you stop having to play the games to stay alive. Hence why I rule my area, and Sophie Ann can eat my ass. She's lucky I even pay her a tithe. I want the area, so it's mine."
"The vampire that just keeps turning people then moving on reminds me of those women who are pregnant all the time because they love being pregnant, but leave all the kids to basically raise themselves together. Like the 21 kids and counting lady." Sookie said and Eric bent over laughing. He was crying bloody tears through his peels of laughter.
"Oh my, Sookie…. You are so funny." He said wiping his eyes with a tissue. "I don't know if I have laughed that hard in the last 500 years. Wow…. Wow…. Never has anyone so brilliantly described Appius. I will absolutely credit you with that joke when I retell this story, and trust me, I will be telling it over and over." He laughed again. Sookie just smiled and shrugged.
Pam rose and dressed at vampire speed. She put her long blonde hair up in a clip and with that they were all ready to go to the nest Godric was staying at.
"Remember you are playing pet, Sookie. I will not share you, everyone knows how greedy I am, so that won't raise any eyebrows. I want to limit the exposure of your telepathy though. The more it can just stay a rumor, the better until you decided if you want to use it for financial gains. Also, we are not in my territory right now. I have to play by other peoples rules here." Eric explained and Sookie just nodded along. They pulled up to a modern looking house and they all got out. Sookie adopted a blank glamoured look and Eric tucked her under his arm and the three of them walked in.
"Sheriff Northman, we're glad you are here, And your progeny, and…."
"My human companion, this is My Sookie." She was staring blankly at the tall slender dark haired vampire.
"I am Isobel, I am the Sheriff in this area. Stan is already here and waiting to speak to you." She said motioning for them to follow her. Pam looked around making a mental record of every face she saw and Sookie started scanning every human mind she could reach.
They were led to a back office and Sookie knew there was a conversation going on around her, but she was focusing of picking through all of the human minds. Most were either loyal pets, or fang bangers. Nothing to really write home about, but in a room on the second floor behind them Sookie could hear a man concerned that they figured out Godric had been taken before they even had him a full night. He was also angry at Isobel for refusing to turn him. He felt like he was used and she cost him everything. He had become addicted to her. He had a wife and children, a career as a car salesman before he met Isobel, but he quickly became infatuated and abandoned his life to fit into hers. When he asked to be turned, she refused him saying she didn't feel the pull to make him her vampire child. He became resentful and started working for the fellowship. He knew more, but he wasn't actively thinking about it. He was mostly going between stewing about Isobel and annoyed everyone acted on Godric so quickly.
She was told to stay quiet, but this was important. She decided to just get weird. She climbed into Erics lap and started rubbing herself on his face, chest and neck.
"She is…. Bold." Stan chuckled looking at her rubbing herself on Eric like a cat in heat.
"She is, I'm sorry. I have not begun training her. She is a newer pet." He pulled her away from him a little bit and said. "Here Sookie, Play with my phone and I will tend to you in a moment." He handed her his phone and quickly opened it so it was open to a text message to Pam. Sookie sat back on the ground and internally rolled her eyes that Some vampires are really that dense to think humans should be treated like house cats…. She was still passively scanning the minds and she realized the humans in the main part of the house were really no better than Dogs or cats based on their thoughts. To each their own, she supposed while she typed her findings and sent them to Pam. Pam pulled out her phone and looked.
"Master?" Pam said interrupting the conversation politely.
"Yes, my Child?" Eric cooed to her.
"I would like to gather all of the humans in the house, including personal pets and start glamoring them for information." Pam said politely.
"I think that is a good idea, catalog their scents also so we can see if their scents turn up near the fellowship facility too. Stan, Isobel, I know its rude, but given the circumstances we would like to question your personal pets too." Eric said.
"Of course, I don't keep pets, but Isobel go get Hugo and leave him with the other humans for Pam to question." Stan ordered.
"Master, may I bring your Sookie? It might help ease her restlessness." Pam suggested. Eric just nodded and motioned for Sookie to go join her.
"I will glamor them very weakly, I will guide their minds for you. Text me the findings." Pam whispered lowly to sookie as they went to the main room. Sookie nodded and sat in the chair next to pam as she started on the first person in the room. Isobel brought Hugo in and left to return to the meeting. Pam skipped the other blood bags and moved on straight to Hugo.
"Who are you?" Pam asked.
"I'm Hugo, I'm Isobel."
"Are you working with the fellowship?" Pam asked under glamor.
"Yes." He said and he even surprised himself by admitting it. That unlocked the flood gates they needed. Sookie started furiously typing to pam who was asking more questions to get surface information she could pass off as explaining what Sookie found. Pam grabbed Hugo by the neck and dragged him back to the office and threw him down at Erics feet. Isobel shot up to attack Pam, but Eric caught her mid air and threw her back across the room where she smashed the shelves behind Stan who didn't move or flinch. He just said.
"What did you find?"
"Isobels human is fellowship. He divulged where Godric would be so he could be captured. Godric is in the basement of the fellowship facility. He will be burned in the sun at dawn tomorrow." Pam spat angrily, Eric growled and picked up Hugo to rip out his throat, but Sookie stopped him.
"Eric, he said he does daily check ins at dawn. You need to glamor him to check in so they don't suspect anything. Kill him tomorrow after we have Godric." Eric looked at Sookie, growling and fangs bared, but she didn't show any fear at all. She wasn't scared of him, even at his worst.
"Tomorrow." He grunted and threw him down.
"Hugo, how could you?" Isobel cried.
"I lost everything and you won't turn me! You used me!" He cried, literally cried at Isobel who was becoming hysterical.
"Isobel, your punishment for not controlling your human will be determined by what condition we get Godric back in, and the PR nightmare getting him will create." Stan said as he rose.
"Yes, your majesty." She said and bowed. Huh, sookie thought. The nerdy cowboy is the king of Texas. She couldn't help comparing the two monarchs that she knows. Stan seems much more balanced and sane. Isobel picked up Hugo and left the room.
"Viking, shut the door." Stan said. Eric did as he said and Sookie started getting nervous. Eric squeezed her shoulder as he walked back to reassure her before he casually sat back in the chair in front of Stans desk.
"This room is warded, no one can hear you." Stan started. "Your pet is a telepath." Stan stated bluntly.
"She is, but Sookie is mine." Eric said sternly.
"Of course she is, darlin' you can get up and stop faking human. I can smell you too." Stan said with a smile. "What are you?" Stan asked addressing Sookie directly.
"I'm a lot of things mixed together." Sookie said wanting to keep her true status close to the vest.
"Okay, keep your secrets telepath." Stan smiled again. "Eric, you need to be careful with her outside of your territory. If I hadn't have met a telepath before I wouldn't have known what she is though. So don't worry. I will not bother what is yours." Stan said raising his hands in a sign of surrender or good faith.
"Thank you, your majesty. Where did you meet a telepath?" Eric asked.
"600 years ago in Greece. She was a handmaiden of the Ancient Pythoness, or still is. I'm not sure, I was incredibly young when I was there for my makers tribunal." Stan shrugged
"She was a vampire?" Eric asked curiously.
"Not at that point, but really who knows what happened. Are you going to turn Sookie?" Stan asked and Sookie tensed up. Pam just came and put her hands on her shoulders to try to keep her calm.
"It would be Sookies choice if I do. I will not turn her against her will. I also want to consult someone more experienced with turnings before I attempt to do it. Her unique heritage may affect if she could even be turned." Eric said plainly tenting his fingers.
"You let your progeny touch you telepath?" Stan asked amused.
"I do, they are good friends. I enjoy their relationship. It's good for them both" Eric said with a smile.
"It's still early, its winter so the nights are long. I want to gather forces and move in for Godric now." Stan said.
"I agree, catch them by surprise. They won't be expecting us so soon, plus there will be a lot more people there tomorrow for the lock in and vampire burning. This will reduce bad PR for you." Eric said ,condescendingly saying vampire burning.
"We don't know where in the building he is. We will need the telepath to pin point him so we can move in." Stan said standing and texting on his phone.
"I do not want Sookie close, she is fragile." Eric said, looking over at her.
"I'll go, I don't mind. I'll stay in the car. I need to be close to read thoughts, but I can track minds from farther. I'm only lookin' for one void not a particular brain signature so it won't be hard at all." Sookie said.
"You will stay in the car, across the street." Eric said sternly.
"Gladly." Sookie said squinting her eyes. Rubbing bigot brains wasn't her idea of excitement. Pam changed into something all black and Eric drove them to the church in Stans black SUV. Sookie could feel about two dozen vampires around them in various locations when they pulled up. Sookie closed her eyes and said.
"There are about 50 guards, all soldiers of the light. No women and children are there yet. They have stakes, silver and cross bows. They have a lot of surveillance equipment, you'll need to cut the power and the back up generator, or you will be on tape. Godric is in the basement… ummm under that window." Sookie said pointing to the back of the building.
"Thank you, Lover. We will be back soon. Stay here." Eric said as they all got out.
"Lover?" Sookie asked with a laugh.
"Soon, you will be." Eric said plainly and that wiped the smile off of her face and made her cheeks flame. He just leaned over and whispered. "I can smell you." With a smirk and he shot off like a bolt.
Sookie closed her eyes and used her mind to track what was going on in the building across the street. She watched through the fellowship soldiers eyes as the power was cut, their weapons seized and many moved and locked in rooms faster than they could perceive what was happening. She was so focused on what was happening inside and trying to garner as much information from the minds inside as possible she didn't notice the men coming up behind the car behind her. She heard the window shatter and a hand was around her mouth before she could scream.
"Well, looky here, one of satans whores." The short brown haired man said to her while a larger man she knew was named Gabe held her so she couldn't move or scream. Her skin was burning as they had cut her pulling her out of the car through the broken window. "Oh where are my manners, I'm reverend Newland. Looks like your vampire friends are taking my original plan, but burning you at the stake will do in a pinch." He said as they dragged her and shoved her in the trunk of a car. She immediately started screaming in hopes that a vampires hearing would hear her, but after a time she gave up and started looking for the trunk release so she could get out the next time the car slowed down.
It was no use, they had either cut the release of she couldn't find it. Eric and Pam would come for her, right? She started to panic and scream again.
They were going to burn her at the stake like a witch….
She was actually part witch and apparently stunk of magic…
And fairy….
And deamon….
She didn't know how she managed to even get that close to a church in her condition. Especially with her Vampire BFF and soon to be vampire lover who was there freeing his vampire Dad.
Oh what a change a few months had made in her life. She had gone back to trying to find the trunk release or anything she could use, break off or find as a weapon when they did inevitably open the trunk again. At least it wasn't summer and she wasn't roasting in there.
Suddenly, she hit the back of the trunk and hard. Pain ripped through her and she yelped. The car had stopped with force. The trunk was ripped open and Sookie saw Pam who reached in to quickly lift her out. As Pam lifted her out she saw Eric was on the dented hood where she assumed he had landed to stop the car. He had pulled Gabe out through the windshield and was feeding on him while the good reverend screamed like a little girl.
Oh noooooo poor Gabe. Sookie though sarcastically.
"Don't kill Newland! It'll fuel his followers." Sookie yelled as Pam lifted her into her arms and into a waiting SUV. Eric threw Gabes body to the side and went around and ripped the passenger door off and pulled Reverend Newalnd out. He held him up and caught his eyes with his glamor.
"You will no longer hate or fear vampires. You now love them and will use all of your resources to fight for vampire rights. You will destroy all of your anti vampire weapons and seek relationships only with vampires. You now live to please the needs of vampire kind." Eric threw him on the ground and released him from his glamor. He walked over to Sookie and said.
"Pam, drive. Stan will have someone clean this up. Sookie you are hurt." He said agitation lacing his voice. She wasn't concerned by it though. She knew it wasn't for her. He got in and cradled sookie in his lap as Pam pulled out.
"Did you get Godric?" Sookie asked.
"Yes, he is clearing out the compromised nest. It's full of bugs and the location known by the fellowship. He will meet us at the hotel. You are hurt." He said the last part with sadness in his voice.
"I'll be okay, maybe stop at the emergency room first?" Sookie suggested.
"No."
"No?" Sookie asked a little hurt he wasn't going to het her medical care. She was bleeding and she was sure her arm was broken.
"No, you will take my blood it will heal you." He insisted.
"But you don't give anyone your blood." Sookie said shocked.
"I have changed my mind. Take my blood." He demanded.
"You don't have to. Don't feel guilty. I'm not dying its a broken bone." She said reaching up with her good hand trying to soothe him.
"I do not feel guilty, I am pissed. I want to heal you myself. Please take my blood. I would not offer it unless I wanted you to have it." He insisted. He wanted her to have it so he could track her himself. He had to follow Stan's tracker who's gift was scenting to follow her scent to find her. Next time he needed to be able to feel her. No, there would be no next time. He would take better care of her from now on.
"Okay." She said and nodded. He bit his wrist and put it to her mouth and she started swallowing. He leaned over and licked the cut on her head. Was it a sneaky first mutual exchange? Absolutely, but he knew that he at very least wanted to bond with her. He was still seriously toying with the idea of turning her. She was pleasing to him and not because of her telepathy. He thought she was refreshing and funny. She was never shocked by the information she got about supernaturals. Everything just rolled off of her. She was ruthless, but also selfless and kind. She was an enigma and he wanted to spend his time studying what made her her.
"I feel better." She said as Eric finished licking the blood off of her body.
"Good, dawn is coming. We must get to the room." Eric said hastily and picked up Sookie to carry her inside. Pam was getting ancy in the elevator and Eric was still holding Sookie. The elevator stopped on the vampire floor and they moved at vampire speed to get in the door. Eric put the key in the door and they walked in. No sooner was the door open and they were in the room, but Pam collapsed to the floor with a thud.
"Oh my God, PAM!" Sookie yelled and tried to wiggle out of Eric arms to help her.
"She is fine, she is just too young to fight the dawn. Godric, could you please?" Eric said just as a short dark haired vampire with crude, but lovely tattoos wearing smaller, but matching black silk sleep pants to the ones Eric was wearing walked in.
"Yes, my child." He said and scooped up Pam. He unceremoniously chucked her onto the bed where she did a small bounce and flop when she hit making Sookie giggle.
"Oh, poor Pam." Sookie said trying to sound sorry, but really it was just hilarious. "Why aren't you two dead?" She asked.
"We are old, we can fight the dawn. Well, I can fight it. Godric can stay up many days with no issues." Eric said setting her down in the bathroom. "Shower, then we can talk." She stunk of the humans who took her and it was pissing him off. He wanted to smell himself on her and nothing else. She just nodded and took another not enough nightgown out of the bag and started the shower.
"You gave her your blood." Godric said with a smirk as he sat in one of the chairs in the sitting area of the room.
"I did."
"I thought you didn't want to have a connection to a human?" Godric asked still smirking, a twinkle in his eye.
"She is not human, not entirely." Eric said as if it was a defense.
"Eric…. Excuses, excuses." Godric chuckled.
"I like her, I like her sense of humor. I like how well she tolerates this world. I like how she does not fear me, but does fear who should be. Obviously, I like how she looks and smells. I like that she gets along well with My Pamela. I like her sense of loyalty. I like that when the Queen took her even under torture she couldn't be broken. She is kind, but also ruthless. She is fair, but understands the need for justice. She is pragmatic and thoughtful. She also has a sense of fun, and doesn't take things too seriously. She is worthy." Eric said, not knowing Sookie was listening from the bathroom door. She was going to get her phone to call Gran, but didn't want to interrupt the conversation. She smiled and her heart fluttered. He never once mentioned her telepathy and that wasn't for her benefit. He didn't even know she was listening.
Eric felt the spike in her emotions and looked towards the bathroom. The door was still closed and the water running.
"Is she upset?" Godric asked.
"No…. She is proud, impressed, lusty, happy, excited…. Dare I say almost giddy." Eric said still staring at the closed door.
"After what she went through tonight? How odd." Godric said, looking at his child curiously.
"Expect the unexpected from her." Eric said and turned back to his maker when he felt Sookies state of being shift to becoming relaxed and contented. She was probably under the hot water now, he thought.
"You want her. in what way?" Godric both stated and asked.
"I do… and I'm not sure yet. She is made of many kinds of magic. I may not be able to turn her. I don't want to even ask her permission unless I am sure it will work." Eric shrugged.
"I didnt ask about turning, that seems to be what you want. Why the exchange though? You could have given her blood without an exchange."
"She made a joke earlier tonight and I haven't stopped thinking about bonding to her since." Eric admitted.
"A joke?" Godric said shaking with silent laughter.
"Yes."
"You really like her because she's funny." Godric said amused.
"I like to have fun." Eric said defensively.
"Mmmmm, but you laugh at mortals all the time."
"Yes, at them. She makes me laugh with her. It's different." Eric looked back at the bathroom door and it opened with Sookie emerging. She was brushing out her wet hair.
"Sookie, this is my maker, Godric." Eric introduced and went to her to guide her to sit next to him on the couch. He took the brush from her and started brushing her hair himself as soon as she was sat down. He ignored his makers amusement in the bond. After 1000 plus years together he had seen Godric do wacky things with humans. He was allowed this ONE.
"Pleasure to finally meet you." She said politely.
"The feeling is mutual." Godric said with a smile.
"I need to call my Gran before she puts a hit out on you." Sookie said turning to Eric. He smiled and softly chuckled.
"Of course, we cannot have Adele putting me on her 'shit list'."
"It's a terrible place to be." She smiled and walked to her purse getting her phone and making the call. Godric was staring Eric down with a huge toothy smile. Eric stared back, sternly not meeting his excitement. If He could read his makers mind he was sure it would be something like 'Eric and Sookie sitting in a tree k.i.s.s.i.n.g'. It was a teasing song Pam often used on Godric when he became enamored with a new human.
"Sookie, may I speak to your Gran?" Eric said getting up and moving to the other side of the room where she was speaking to her gran giving her a very very sanitized version of what happened that night.
"Yeah, hey ummm, Eric wants to talk to you." Sookie said and handed her phone to Eric.
"Adele, how are you…. Yes well, you know all is well….. yes we have my Maker safe and sound…. Well, we cannot consume food, but my Maker has many human companions I'm sure they would enjoy a basket of jams…. About that, I would like Sookie to stay in Shreveport with us a few more days….. yes, I thought that might be your reaction…. She is not my captive, I assure you…. I wanted to say I will have an associate of mine pick you up and bring you to see Sookie, perhaps you can go to one of the tea houses Pam is always going on about….. Yes, we will be going back tomorrow night, my associate will pick you up at 11am the next day…. His name is Bobby… of course, I would love to see you again. Please stay past sundown. My home is always open to you….. Probably another week or so…. Yes yes, see you soon." Eric finished the call and hung up, handing the phone back to Sookie.
"Godric, Sookies Gran will be sending you a basket of home made Jams." Eric chuckled, Adele… such a human.
"How lovely, I will enjoy feeding them to Jillian and Celeste." Godric smiled.
"Godric, how are you feeling? Did they hurt you?" Sookie asked sitting back down and Eric resuming his work on her hair.
"I was held less than one full night. I am well. Your help was invaluable. I'm sorry you were damaged in the process." Godric said sincerely.
"Oh, Eric healed me. I'm okay now." She said and Godric grinned.
"I know." His amusement made Eric scowl at him, as he started putting Sookies hair in an elaborate braid.
"You're braiding my hair?" She asked Eric.
"I am, Vikings took braiding seriously. Different braids had different meanings. I tend to just do what I like now though. Pam has always liked me braiding her hair." Eric said.
"Thank you." Sookie said brightly. "No one has ever braided my hair before."
"I shall have to do it often." He smiled.
"Oh…" Sookie said shyly. Godric wasn't even attempting to school his face and how entertained he was by his Childs interest in the girl. Look at the big bad viking, braiding the hair of the girl he has a crush on. Godric thought. He couldn't wait until Eric had to stop fighting the pull of the sun and he could speak to Sookie alone.
"Eric, you will get the bleeds." Godric said a smirk on his face.
"So be it." He growled at his maker. He had zero intention of letting his maker say anything he wanted to Sookie without him present.
"Eric, I don't want you to get Sick. I'm fine. I need to go to bed soon anyway." The concern in her voice cut him… She was concerned with his wellbeing. She was far far too precious.
"Vampires do not get sick I will be fine." He said to her rubbing her back reassuringly.
"Well, 'the bleeds' doesn't sound healthy."
"Vampires do not have varying states of health."
"Umm, you sure do. Silver fucks you up. If you get drained you have to heal for weeks, you can get hep V which can only be cured by blood from your line, thats like needing cold medicine. You can also get the bleeds from fighting the sun, boom varying states of health. Please do not make yourself unwell for me." She pleaded.
"Yes, Eric. I will keep an eye on her for you." Godric smirked, and Eric shot him a look.
"I'm sure you will…. Thats my concern." Eric said, but Godric just made a smug face and leaned forward on his knees and said.
"As your maker I command , go to rest." For a moment Eric looked horrified before the makers command took him and he collapsed and fell off the couch. Dead for the day.
"Eric!" Sookie yelped, kneeling next to where he collapsed.
"He's fine. He will rise at his normal time." Godric said and dismissively waved his hand.
"Why did you do that?" Sookie asked, smoothing Erics hair out of his face and trying to straighten him out so he wouldn't be so contorted and be uncomfortable.
"Because I want to speak to you in peace." He said matter of factly.
"You could have just asked for a moment with me. You didn't have to K.O. Eric." She grumbled as she finishes righting him.
"K.O., Eric was right you are funny." Godric mused.
"I didn't get to say goodnight." She muttered under her breath.
"You care for him." Godric stated.
"Of course! Whats not to care for?" Sookie asked confused.
"I mean, I agree. I like him." Godric smiled.
"Of course you do. You've spent over 1000 years with him. You don't do that with people you hate." She deadpanned and sat back on the couch after laying the trow over Eric to tuck him in.
"No, you do not. I like a lot of people, Eric not so much." Godric said as he stared at her.
"He just likes to keep to himself. I can understand that." Sookie said defensively.
"He wants to turn you." Godric said plainly. Expecting Sookie to freak out, but she never did.
"I'm getting that from him. He keeps casually mentioning it or joking about it." She said taking a relaxed stance in the couch.
"You are not scared."
"He won't do it until I give permission." Sookie said confidently.
"Until? You want to be turned?" Godric said curiously.
"Listen, I know we just met, but I just figured out in not all human. I have been uncomfortable my whole life because I don't fit in with humans. I cant even touch them, not even my family because touch makes their thoughts scream in my head. I am comfy for the first time in my life. I'm not saying ,yes turn me, but I'm fine with considering it. I like Pam, clearly Eric is a good maker. He also doesn't use me for my telepathy." She said. Godric stood up and got right in her face and let his fangs down. She never even flinched.
"Maybe I should turn you right now?"
"You never would. You love Eric and he clearly has dibs on me." Sookie said waving him off.
"Correct." He smiled and sat back down. "You don't rattle easy."
"I have been inside the private thoughts of humans my entire life, I've seen some shit. I also know all about you from Pam. Theres no way you would do Eric dirty like that. Plus, you like humans, and keep several as girlfriends. You aren't the type to hurt people for no reason."
"Do Eric dirty…" He laughed again. "You are adorable."
"Eric thinks so," She sassed and smiled.
"He has a crush on you."
"It's mutual."
"Be gentle with his heart, he isn't often generous with it." Godric said.
"He is worthy." Sookie said, making Godric smile. She had heard him talking about her earlier. She got up and went and got a pillow and another blanket. She turned out the lights and tossed the pillow next to Eric. She got it half under Erics head, then she laid down next to him, lifting his arm to drape around her before she pulled the blanket over herself laying next to him on the floor.
"Goodnight Godric."
"Sleep well Sookie." Godric chuckled, then walked to the bed where Pam was a laid down. Allowing himself to die to help pass the time until he could watch his child with his new mortal interest again.
"mmmm… you are still here." Eric said when he rose, nuzzling into her
"I am." She said turning and cuddling into him.
"I was concerned my maker would scare you off."
"He tried to." Sookie said calmly.
"I'm glad he was unsuccessful." Eric said as he kissed down her neck to her chest.
"Eric, we are not getting frisky while your dad and daughter are asleep in the bed across the room." She whispered.
"I am awake." Godric called back making Eric and Sookie both laugh.
"Soon, Lover. I don't want our first time in the floor in a hotel room. You will be woo'ed." Eric said.
"Awwwwwwww." Godric coo'ed from across the room.
"How do you live with him?" Sookie asked with a smile.
"It has been a daily struggle for 1200 years." Eric said dramatically before leaning to kiss her and stand them both up.
"You let Pam pack?" Godric said as he pulled out all of their outfits for the day.
"Shop, we didn't have time to pack." Eric said.
"She has made us all match." Godric said as he laid out identical plaid mini skirts for she and Sookie with cropped, collared deep read sweaters. There were also thigh high stockings and black leather platform boots. Eric and Godric had black slacks and red button downs that matched the sweaters Sookie and Pam had.
"We're going to look like those family pictures rich people have done every year." Sookie mused with a smile looking at the clothes.
"Pam does this every time she gets a chance. I'm sure having another person to coordinate with has brought her untold happiness." Eric said with laughter in his voice.
"I'm not mad at it. I didn't have friends to be matchy matchy with when I was young. I'm enjoying this. If she wants a secret best friends hand shake, she will be making all my dreams come true." Sookie said.
"We can get friendship necklaces too!" Pam yelled from the bed. She had just risen.
"The heart thats in two pieces that says 'best' on one side and 'friends on the other." Sookie said turning to her. Pam ran over and started jumping and squealing.
"Finally! A girl! I'm so sick of these boys and their stupid boy ideas!" Pam squealed.
"Pamela!" Eric half chastised, half laughed.
"Master… boys are gross." She whined, making sookie snicker.
"Is that true, Sookie? Am I gross?" Eric asked in a sultry voice.
"My brother and Hoyt are disgusting. They smell like dirt, B.O. and worms. You? Not nearly as gross in my opinion." Sookie said with a blush.
"See? I am not gross." Eric said triumphantly.
"Yes you are! You and Godric think going to ground it the solution to all of life's ills. Hungry? Go to ground. Injured? Go to ground. Angry? Go to ground. Have an accounting problem? Go to ground. LAYING IN THE DIRT SOLVES NOTHING!" Pam screamed the last part.
"Going to ground makes the magic that animates us stronger." Godric said.
"I hate going to ground." Pam seethed. "Disgusting, you boys are gross."
"So, it's like vampire camping?" Sookie giggled. "Humans go camping to try to escape the hustle and bustle and also reconnect with nature. It really serves no purpose other than entertainment, because we don't have to survive in the wilderness anymore. Just nostalgic for a bygone era." Sookie explained.
"I mean…. I guess it's similar." Eric chuckled.
"We need to return. Pam, drive with Godric. I will return your car with Sookie." Eric said as he dressed in the clothes Pam got him. Sookie swooned a little at him being basically naked in front of her. He winked making her grab her clothes and skitter to the bathroom.
"You have the hots for, Eric." Pam said to Sookie as she entered the bathroom.
"Are you mad?" Sookie asked nervously. "You're still the best friend I have ever had."
"I am not mad… I feel odd. My maker is acting out of character. Not in a bad way, but it's unpredictable and that is unnerving." Pam admitted.
"If it helps he's putting me off balance too. I haven't really had 'the hots'" sookie said making air quotes. "For anyone before."
"What is sex like?" Sookie asked her in a whisper.
"With a man? I do not care for it. With Eric? I have no idea, I have heard good things, but again… I don't care for sex with men." Pam said with a smile. "I do know his dick is HUGE." Pam said making her eyes look wide when she said it.
"Pam!" Sookie squeaked, but Pam just cackled. They finished dressing and Eric pretended like he didn't hear Sookie ask Pam what sex was like. Oh, he would show her and she would love it. He would make sure of that. He was positive she wasn't a lesbian. She was turned on by him almost constantly.
"Eric, are you sure you want to drive with…." Godric said as they got to the parking garage, but Eric cut him off.
"Yes, I am. See you two back at the house." Eric grabbed Sookie and zoomed to Pams car and put her in as fast as possible.
"Your maker likes to mess with you." Sookie mused as they pulled out onto the road.
"He does, he always has. It has gotten worse as he has aged."
"Gran has cared less about what she says or what people think as she has gotten older. If she thinks it, she's gonna do or say it. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it horrifying and embarrassing." Sookie said sympathetically.
"Yes, but imagine that with the volume turned up by thousands of years." Eric said seriously.
"I bet he keeps you on your toes." Sookie snickered.
"Uhh, yes. On my toes, on edge. If vampires could go gray I would have a full head of grays from my Maker." He said with a smile.
"He's the oldest vampire in America, right?"
"Yes, his maker is the oldest vampire in the world. Thats not public knowledge though."
"Understood…" she thought for a moment before saying "I'm worried about the Queen."
"Don't be, she is stupid and weak."
"What if she takes my Gran or brother to make me work for her?" Sookie asked fidgeting.
"Then I will slaughter her and her children, and expand my territory." Eric said plainly.
"You don't want to be king though."
"And I wouldn't be. I would dissolve the monarchy and make the different areas lordships, with Area 5 as the main area and I would just handle major disputes. Utah, Arizona, new mexico and Colorado are run like that. There is no king, per say… but a Vampire named Victoria Bellafondent is where the buck stops in that territory. There used to be two monarchs of that area, but they were greedy bitches and 110 years ago they were ended. There was an effort to install new monarchs, but it never took. The smaller Fiefdoms, run very efficiently. The Lords rule their smaller areas and there is just less bullshit."
"I don't want to put you in that position." Sookie said apologetically.
"You wouldn't be. I have been on my last nerve with Sophie long before you were even born. At this point I'm just looking for a reason with her." He said sincerely.
"What else has she done?" Sookie asked.
"She was a loud reverter after the great reveal was announced. She made the state a huge liability. She lets her insane child Andre run amuck. She silvered a magister. She burned down the AVL headquarters for the state. She ATE a high profile businessman named Copley Carmichael, in a very conspicuous way that was nearly impossible to cover up. His daughter is a natural witch and we now have to give her coven exclusive rights to the state, including protection so we are constantly having to fuck around with witches who tend to be necromancers, which is very bad for the undead. Not to mention she kidnaps tasty humans quite regularly, again because she is a reverter." Eric said with annoyance in his tone.
"Whats a reverter?" Sookie asked.
"Someone who wants to cling to the old ways. They don't want to live peacefully with the humans. They didn't want to reveal themselves and they take a sick pleasure in making vampires look bad. Your favorite 35,000 kids and counting vampire is also a reverter. The Middle East is mostly run by reverters from the ottoman, achaemenid, byzantine and Anatolia empires."
"Are there vampires everywhere?"
"Mostly, some areas have denser populations than others. Central and South Africa have very very few vampires. North America actually only has a few million vampires. It's considered a very sparsely populated region."
"How few is very few, in reference to Africa?" She asked.
"In central Africa, a few dozen. In South Africa, a couple thousand. Europe and east Asia have the highest vampire populations. Vampires in general originated from Egypt, or so we think. The oldest living vampire is greek. She was the seer of Delphi. it's hard to get an exact bead on how we came about. You know, record keeping has always been spotty at best, and Vampires don't exactly write things down. There is a theory vampires are the product of ambitious necromancers" Eric said with a smile.
"Eric?" Sookie started chewing her lip.
"Yes, Lover?" He said sweetly.
"Why are you spilling vampire secrets to me? A lot of this information is obviously guarded and not pertinent to my survival."
"Sookie…" He sighed. "I don't really know."
"You have decided to turn me, haven't you? You're already treating me like a new vampire." Sookie said. He searched her emotions within him, but she wasn't upset, she felt pretty neutral.
"I suppose, I just don't know if you can be turned. You are made of at least 3 kinds of magic, turning you may not take and then all I have done is kill you for nothing. I couldn't tolerate that." He admitted.
"Who would you need to consult to see if I could be turned?" Sookie asked after taking a moment to think.
"You wish to be turned?" Eric asked hopefully.
"I don't want to go back to being an outsider amongst humans. I also want to be stronger so I cant be kidnapped."
"Then you will need to bond to me. Vampire or not those stronger can always take you. Bonding to me would make you essentially an extension of myself. You would also get to fly. Bonded vampires always share their gift."
"You want me to bond to you?"
"yes."
"Are you sure?" Sookie asked in disbelief.
"Positive, I already did a sneaky first exchange when I healed you. We only need two more and it will be done."
"Were you even going to ask me?" Sookie said, staring at him in disbelief.
"About the first exchange? no. I would have notified you before I finished the bond." He was trying to look adorable, but sookie was looking at him with narrowed eyes. Her arms crossed.
"Notify me? Not ask me?"
"Sookie, I have been a vampire a long long time. I have been living by a set of guidelines you don't fully understand. I'm sorry if you don't like my answers, but I will not lie to you." His tone was strong and unapologetic.
"I guess I wouldn't prefer lying." Sookie admitted. "Give me a few nights notice before you turn me so I can shave my legs and stuff." She finally said. A wide smile spread on Eric s face.
"Of course, I will promise you a weeks notice before I turn you."
3 years later
"Jessica, how many readings do I have tonight?" Sookie asked her assistant. Jessica was less than a year old. Her Maker was Bill Compton. Eric was fostering her because Bill had gotten in trouble selling V for the Queen to take care of her money issues and was currently serving a 100 year sentence in something called 'the pit' for his crimes.
The Queen had also lost her kingdom around the same time. Eric didn't even have to lift a finger. When the word spread to the vampires in Louisiana that their queen was taking young vampires, draining them and selling their blood to fund her tacky lifestyle there was a full blown revolution style revolt. The territory was given to Eric, who decided to break it into 6 districts, with each district having an elected leader to represent the vampires in that district. He was the prime Minister of Louisiana. An election was held after he finished his one year interim term in the position and he still won. He would have the position for the next 100 years before the next election. What it did do was cause an influx of vampires moving to the area, and a lot had humans that needed to be read.
Sookie never went back to waitressing. She ran her telepathy business out of Pam's bar and it did keep vampires in and out for tourists to gawk at. An appointment with Sookie required 4 hours of looking vampiric in the bar along with a 10k charge just to make an appointment. Costs from there depended on what kind of reading they wanted and how many humans.
"Ummm, Looks like Eric blocked out your next 3 weeks." Jessica said flipping through her tablet.
"What? Why?" Sookie asked and got up to go into her Vampire, bonded, Boyfriends office
"Eric, what gives? You bought out my next three weeks? If you want to go on vacation I can schedule it. Sookie said exasperatedly.
"It's time." Eric said cryptically.
"For what?" Sookie said confused.
"I will be turning you one week from today. I am now confident you can be turned, and you have your Christmas pounds and I don't want you to lose my favorite squishy bits." He said standing up and running his hands over her.
"Oh my… really?" She asked excited.
"Really." He smiled and kissed her. They hadn't discussed her turning since her Gran had died two years earlier. It had almost slipped her mind.
"Yes, I told you I needed to be sure you could be turned. I love you, I couldn't survive if your turning went bad because I acted hastily."
"Lets not tell Pam until I've risen. Just… bring me in to come serve hours in the bar and let her find out that way." Sookie snickered.
"I love that idea. We'll tell her we are just going on vacation for a few weeks." Eric smiled.
"What about Godric?" Sookie asked.
"He knows, he's who called and gave me the green light. He was in Ireland meeting with one of our scholars about unique turnings to make sure you could be turned for me. He will stand watch over our grave while you cook."
"What if my telepathy doesn't carry over?" She said nervously.
"Who gives a shit? But telepathy has already been shown to carry. There have been two telepaths turned. Telepathy shows up in a human about every 500 years or so. It's a purely human trait, which shocked me a little." Eric explained and closed up his office leading sookie out.
"Wow, I assumed it was from one of my other othernesses." Sookie said with a little hmm noise.
"Me too." He said as he opened the passenger door in his corvette for her.
"Are either of the telepaths still undead?"
"One, it's the handmaiden of the ancient pythoness. The other was turned by appius and shocker, didn't survive past 300."
"The list of who he didn't turn is probably shorter than who he did. You were right when you referred to him as a menace. How is the Eastern European vampier population not just out of control?" She asked as he drove them home so she could start making plans for her turning.
"He gives a makers command that they cannot turn a vampire. He does it so he has makers command over every vampire in the region. It also keeps higher authorities off his back. If there was a crazy population boom that out paced or endangered humans, he would be stopped."
"I'm kind of surprised no one really cares."
"He chilled significantly after he called all of his children to him 300 years ago and because he has made so many vampires, many just live normally in other parts of the world now. When he called them all, it sort of crippled the vampire workings for months. It also flooded the area with nearly a million extra vampires. He was…. Warned to never do that again."
"Warned?" Sookie asked as they walked into the house.
"They killed 1000 of his children and crippled him for 1000 nights as a punishment."
"Wow, his poor children." Sookie said sadly.
"No, they wanted to die. He also orders them to not finally kill themselves."
"Well, cross off Eastern Europe from my bucket list, no thanks." She said and Eric laughed.
"Yeah, vampires who are not his generally do not enter that region. Much like central Africa and their expert vampire hunters. We just don't mess around with it…. OH!" Eric exclaimed excitedly.
"What?"
"We can go to Svalbard! Polar night lasts until January 29th. Its like a huge 4 month party for vampires. The sun never comes up." Eric said looking absolutely thrilled.
"What do vampires do when the sun never sets there?"
"We're all gone before that. It's a seasonal vampire vacation destination. Even before the great reveal their economy was mostly fueled by winter vampire tourism. After a few days of not feeling the pull of the sun you start to get wasted on your own magic because it's not dissipating each day. You'll love it. I haven't been in about 30 years. It'll be like a little honeymoon for us."
"I'm excited!" Sookie screamed.
"Me too…. Are you ready for eternity with me?" Eric asked pulling her flush to her.
"Eric, this is my destiny. I was born ready." Sookie smiled and kissed Eric again. Eternity sometimes didn't feel like enough with him.
