The rhythmic sounds of synchronized punches and kicks echoed throughout the spacious dojang as Reiko stood at the front, commanding the attention of her students. Her voice carried authority, underlined with an encouraging tone as she guided the acolytes through their lesson.

"Everyone remember your lesson and practice at home," Reiko said firmly, her hands on her hips. "You won't gain a belt by slacking off. Now, what's our motto?"

"Hard work and dedication are the recipe for victory!" the class chanted in unison.

From her seat in the stands, Kuri rolled her eyes, a smirk playing at her lips. "Only Reiko would turn Tae Kwon Do into a cooking class," she muttered, glancing at Ben beside her.

Ben chuckled, leaning closer to her. "Well, it is what she's best at."

Kuri's smile faltered slightly, her expression suddenly uncertain. "But… I thought you liked my cooking?"

Ben froze, realizing his slip. "Uh, well… I love your baking," he stammered. Before Kuri could respond, he shot to his feet. "Reiko! So great to see you!"

Reiko, noticing his flustered attempt at changing the subject, smirked knowingly. She strolled toward them, her ponytail swaying, green eyes sharp with amusement. "Something tells me you're just trying to avoid saying the wrong thing."

Standing taller than both Ben and Kuri, Reiko exuded an intimidating yet elegant presence. Her purple, Casablanca flower-patterned top hugged her frame, paired with sleek black leather pants and simple black flats. Her fiery red hair was tied back with a purple bow, and her piercing green eyes seemed to flicker gold in the sunlight.

"Score one for my foxy sister," Kuri said with a grin, quickly regaining her confidence. She leaned toward Ben, lowering her voice. "Now, give her the rundown. I think I figured out why Grams sent us back."

Ben hesitated for a moment before holding up his wrist, the Omnitrix gleaming faintly in the overhead lights.

Later, the three of them sat on the edge of a small stone wall in the parking lot. The dojo students had dispersed, leaving the air quiet save for the occasional chirp of crickets. Reiko had just finished watching Max's message on the holoviewer and now sat deep in thought, her hands clasped on her knees.

"It's possible Grams and Max are working together again," Reiko said finally, her tone measured. "Even if Grams is doing her usual thing—helping from a distance. But this bit about the Omnitrix? He probably thinks you need it for whatever's coming."

Kuri nodded, her expression more serious than usual. She pulled a folded piece of paper from her bag and handed it to Reiko. "As for Grams… this letter makes things clearer. It's in Japanese, so I'll translate."

She unfolded the letter, her hands shaking just slightly as she read aloud:

"Dear Hikawa Clan,

This is your call to arms. A threat has come to Earth, one dire enough to bring you all into the light of day. We can no longer live as normal human beings.

Kuri, I fully expect you to lead our clan. You were raised as warriors; now you must become the greatest version of yourself. Let the Pentacle guide you—it will lead you to what is right. Remember: darkness does not always equate to evil, and light does not always equate to good.

Kaori Hikawa Watanabe."

Ben furrowed his brow, leaning forward slightly. "The Pentacle? She means the pendant you wear, right?"

Kuri shook her head. "No, it's not the same word. What she's referring to is the Wu Xing, the Chinese five elements—Water, Wood, Metal, Fire, and Earth. On Skye, we adapted it to a circle using Water, Fire, Earth, Air, and Spirit. I was always Spirit—the High Priestess. That's why she called me the leader of the clan. It's a matriarchal role."

Reiko frowned. "Grams' paranoia aside, if what she says is true, then the Awakening will happen. If not, well…" She shrugged. "She's just being her usual dramatic self."

Ben tilted his head. "Awakening?"

Reiko crossed her arms, her tone dismissive. "Grams always said the Earth would one day face a threat so great that it would awaken some secret power within us. We all thought she meant spiritual powers, magic. But now she's claiming we'll stop being human altogether. So… who knows what that means?"

"Ben needs to put on the Omnitrix," Reiko said suddenly, her voice sharp with conviction.

"You can't just say that!" Kuri snapped, her voice rising in defense. She stood abruptly, glaring at her sister. "Ben didn't choose this. He has a way out!"

Ben looked between the two sisters, feeling the tension rise. The heat of Kuri's passionate outburst sent an odd thrill through him, and he couldn't help but notice the fire in her eyes.

"She's right," Ben said after a moment. He stood as well, meeting both their gazes. "I didn't choose this. But I like being a hero, and if the Earth is in trouble, I'm not going to stand by and let it burn—even without the Omnitrix."

Kuri's expression softened, her anger melting into something warmer. She stepped closer to him, her voice quieter now. "Ben… you don't have to carry this alone. You've already done so much."

Their eyes met, and for a moment, the world seemed to pause. Kuri's hand brushed his arm lightly, sending a spark of electricity through him.

"Kuri, I—"

The moment was shattered by a gruff voice behind them.

"The Omnitrix isn't yours, kid. Hand it over."

They turned to see a Magister standing in the shadows, his weapon trained on Ben.

"And the three of you," the Magister continued, stepping closer, "are under arrest."

Ben clenched his fists, stepping in front of Kuri protectively. Her hand lingered on his shoulder, a quiet reassurance.
