Zenitsu and Reiko moved cautiously through the dense forest of Mt. Natagumo, the oppressive atmosphere pressing down on them like a heavy weight. Every step felt wrong, as though the very ground beneath their feet was alive and watching. The air was thick with tension, the eerie silence broken only by the occasional rustle of leaves or the skittering of unseen creatures.

"I hate this place," Zenitsu muttered, his voice trembling as he gripped his sword. "It's like something is waiting to jump out and kill us at any second."

Reiko gave him a small, encouraging smile, though her own nerves were frayed. "We'll be fine, Zenitsu. Just stay close to me."

Zenitsu nodded, though his hands shook as he followed her deeper into the woods. But the calm between them shattered as a grotesque, disembodied head suddenly dropped from the trees, its face twisted into a mocking grin.

"Welcome, little morsels," the Spider Demon sneered, its voice high-pitched and sickly sweet. Its long, spindly legs twitched as it scuttled toward them, its head grotesquely large in proportion to its body. Around it, dozens of smaller spiders began swarming toward Zenitsu and Reiko, thei movements quick and unnerving.

Zenitsu stumbled back with a scream, swiping wildly at the spiders with his sword. "Why does it have to be spiders? I hate spiders!"

Reiko stood her ground, her foxlike ears twitching as her green eyes narrowed. She summoned an orb of light in her hand, hurling it toward the demon. The orb exploded on impact, scattering the smaller spiders briefly and forcing the Spider Demon to retreat momentarily. "Zenitsu, focus!" she shouted. "We have to fight!"

But before Zenitsu could gather his courage, one of the spiders latched onto his leg, its fangs sinking into his flesh. He cried out, slashing at it desperately, but the damage was done. His breathing grew labored, his body trembling as the venom began to take hold.

"Zenitsu!" Reiko cried, rushing to his side. But as she reached him, another spider leapt onto her arm and bit down hard. She winced, swiping it away, but instead of feeling the venom spread, there was… nothing. Her Kitsune heritage protected her, but the sight of Zenitsu collapsing to his knees made her chest tighten in fear.

"Reiko…" Zenitsu gasped, his vision blurring. "I… I can't move… it hurts…"

Reiko knelt beside him, her hands trembling as she touched his face. "Zenitsu, stay with me. Please," she begged, her voice cracking. "I… I can't purify you like my sister could. I don't know how to save you."

The Spider Demon laughed, its grotesque head tilting unnaturally. "Don't worry, little fox. He'll make a lovely addition to my family," it sneered. Around them, the smaller spiders began to close in, their fangs gleaming.

Reiko stood, placing herself between Zenitsu and the approaching horde. Her light orbs flared to life, illuminating the dark forest. She hurled them at the spiders, each explosion scattering the creatures, but for every spider she destroyed, more seemed to take their place. The Demon's mocking laughter echoed through the trees as Reiko's energy began to wane.

"Is that all you've got, little fox?" the Spider Demon taunted. "Soon you'll be just another meal."

Reiko gritted her teeth, her body trembling with exhaustion. She could feel the spiders crawling closer, their venomous fangs glinting in the dim light. "No," she whispered, her voice filled with determination. "I won't let you take him."

But just as the largest spider lunged toward her, Zenitsu's voice broke through the chaos.

"No one touches her!" he shouted.

Reiko turned, her eyes widening as Zenitsu, now unconscious, pushed himself to his feet. His expression was calm, his breathing steady—he was asleep. His sword crackled with electricity as he raised it, his stance strong and unyielding. The air around him seemed to hum with energy, the forest trembling under the power of his Thunder Breathing.

"Thunder Breathing… First Form: Thunderclap and Flash!" Zenitsu's voice rang out, steady and confident, as he moved faster than the eye could follow. A blinding flash of light cut through the darkness as he slashed through the spiders in a single, fluid motion, their bodies dissolving into ash.

The Spider Demon screeched in panic, trying to scuttle away, but Zenitsu was relentless. "No one touches her!" he repeated, his blade slicing through the demon's head in one final strike. The grotesque creature dissolved into ash, its mocking laughter silenced forever.

As the last of the spiders disappeared, Zenitsu's body swayed, the effects of the poison catching up with him. He fell backward, and Reiko rushed to catch him, her arms wrapping around his trembling form.

"Zenitsu!" she cried, cradling him against her. His breathing was shallow, his skin pale, but he managed to open his eyes slightly, giving her a faint smile.

"I… I told you I'd protect you," he murmured, his voice weak but filled with warmth. "No one… touches you when I'm around."

Tears streamed down Reiko's face as she held him close, her heart aching. "Zenitsu, you idiot," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion. "You're poisoned. You need help."

Before she could say more, a large, elegant butterfly fluttered down from the trees, its movements graceful and deliberate. Reiko froze, her eyes wide as the butterfly landed softly on Zenitsu's shoulder. A figure stepped out from the shadows, her calm presence both unsettling and reassuring.

"Don't worry," the woman said, her voice light and serene. "I'll take care of him."

Reiko looked up, her heart pounding. She didn't know who this woman was, but the sight of her filled her with hope. "Who are you?" she asked, her voice trembling.

The woman smiled gently, her gaze flicking to Zenitsu. "I'm Shinobu Kocho," she said simply, her tone soothing. "And I'm here to save him."
