Marinette's shoulders sagged as she and Tikki walked home from sewing class through the park. The old gazebo, which Marinette and Adrien had shared a dance in last year, looked old, dark and tired.
"We've had just good memories here," Marinette stepped inside the shelter, her breath coming in white clouds. "Maybe it just needs a little love and attention." "And fairy lights," Tikki added, watching the streetlamps click on.
"Look, Nikki!" Marinette gasped. "It's starting to snow!" Sure enough, snowflakes were silently falling. "And I am the Knitting Fairy, and this Fairy has some creative magic coming this way."
Marinette didn't like telling Adrien no the next day after school, but she and Tikki were going to the thrift shop and craft store, and fixing the gazebo was a secret.
It was hard finding a fairy costume this time of year, the racks were all Santa's, Reindeer, and elves. Marinette wasn't a quitter though, and brought home some fabric instead.
The fairy lights were a beautiful pastel blue and sliver, though untangling would be a challenge. Still, Marinette wanted her Christmas dance with Adrien to be the most magical one of all.
Her days consisted of sewing and untangling, but soon she had a beautiful blue and sliver fairy outfit complete with wings.
The lights now untangled, took some arranging, but at last everything was ready.
Marinette's breath came in excited white puffs as she texted Adrien after school to meet her at the gazebo at seven.
When she arrived, she wasn't sure if her hands shook from the cold or with excitement. Marinette's eyes widened when Adrien came, dressed like a green nymph, offering her his hand.
"How did you know I was going with a fairy theme?" she asked. "I didn't," Adrien admitted. "Just shows we're soulmates," Marinette smiled.
"My fairy, may I have this dance?" Adrien asked. "You may," Marinette answered back, stepping into his arms.
Maybe it was fairy magic, or Marinette's Lady Luck, but this fairy dance was the most magical one yet.
