Prologue: On Matters of Life and Death
Death is not the end…
Or so the saying always goes. Faced with the inevitable destiny of the unknown, people clamor for comfort, seeking security when confronted by a scary reality. Much like the lie of Youth, death- no rather the afterlife is rooted in wishful self- satisfaction.
For this case I'll offer several examples. Work as a wage slave in one of those horrendous factories and die in an accident? No worries the afterlife shall compensate. Suffer a lifetime of struggle and pain? Don't worry- in death salvation would find you. No matter where you travel, the idea of afterlife espouses comfort and happiness, a new beginning, a promise of entering Shangri-la for unfortunate souls.
In reality, it's all meaningless coping. No matter the outcome, the destination of those departed, the weight of the past is always present, shaping our minds, outlook, our very identity. Like stars in the night sky, it remains unchanging amidst the eons, the glimmering lights bearing down as if quietly judging each action, each step which could have been taken.
To conclude, I- Hachiman Hikigaya leave you with this: the afterlife is just as likely to be as shitty as the real world is- source: me.
