Chapter 7: Parusa's Unpleasant Afternoon

Avalice Archipelago – Parusa Island, Noon Hours

In the southern reaches of the Avalice Archipelago lay Parusa Island, an independent haven separated from the three main kingdoms. This tropical paradise was known for its pristine beaches, where the deep blue of crystal-clear waters met the lush green of palm trees swaying gently in the breeze, as the golden sands gleamed under the bright sun. The distant sound of waves crashing against the shore added to the island's serene atmosphere, blending seamlessly with the cheerful chatter of the locals.

Adventure Square, the heart of Parusa Island's coastal town, was a lively hub of activity. Colorful buildings and market stalls lined the streets, offering a variety of exotic goods, from fresh tropical fruits to handmade jewelry. Locals moved about with the unhurried pace of island life, their laughter and conversation mixing with the cries of happy children playing in the square.

But beneath the surface of this tropical bliss, there was an undercurrent of tension. The recent actions of Shuigang's prince—his descent into madness following his father's assassination—had cast a shadow over Avalice. His decision to deploy robots across the three kingdoms had created unease, even here in Parusa. Though the island had managed to fend off several robotic attacks, the question lingered: how long could they resist? For now, the islanders continued with their lives, choosing to enjoy each day as it came, even as some whispered about the ancient curses of Parusa, wondering if they were to blame for the recent troubles.

Near the coast, a young cheetah girl, no older than six, played in the shallow waters. Her yellow and white fur, adorned with black spots, glistened under the midday sun. She wore a simple white dress with a blue ribbon tied neatly around her waist and white sandals on her small feet. As she giggled with delight, the water splashed around her.

"Sari, time to get back!" called her mother from the shore. Lisa, a tall and graceful cheetah, stood with her hands on her hips, watching her daughter with a smile. She wore a white dress that fluttered in the gentle breeze, a long blue scarf draped around her neck.

Sari pouted. "Ohhh, five more minutes, Mommy!" she pleaded.

Lisa chuckled softly as she relented. "Okay, five more minutes, and then you get back inside!"

"Okay!" Sari exclaimed, her voice bubbling with excitement. She ran along the sandy beach, her small feet leaving a trail of tiny footprints. As she explored the shoreline, something glimmering beneath the water caught her eye.

Intrigued, she stopped in her tracks and bent down to get a closer look. The sunlight cast a mesmerizing glow over the object. Sari's curiosity got the best of her, and with a cautious hand, she reached into the water to retrieve the shimmering treasure.

Something echoed in the distance.

As her fingers closed around the object, she pulled it out of the water, revealing a brilliant cyan gem. The gem was unlike anything she had ever seen, its surface smooth and flawless, radiating an otherworldly light. The sunlight reflected off the gem, casting dazzling rays of cyan light onto the sand around her, as if the gem itself were alive with energy.

Sari's eyes widened in awe as she held the gem up to the light. "Mommy! Look what I found!" she shouted with excitement as she turned and began running back toward her mother, the gem clutched tightly in her small hands.

As she did so, the distant sound of a jet engine could be heard, growing louder with each passing second, the noise cutting through the peaceful sounds of the waves.

Lisa's eyes widened in surprise when she saw the gem her daughter was holding. "Oh my, Sari, it's beautiful!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with awe as she stepped forward to get a better look. The gem emitted a soft, ethereal glow, captivating her just as it had her daughter.

"I found it on the shore!" Sari said excitedly, her eyes sparkling with wonder as she held the gem out to her mother.

"And what will you do with it?" Lisa asked, her voice gentle as she crouched down to be at eye level with her daughter.

"It's a gift for you!" Sari declared, her small face beaming.

But as she held the gem out to her mother, the sound of the approaching engine became deafening, the waves around them starting to churn violently.

Lisa's heart swelled at her daughter's gesture, and she reached out to take the gem. "Oh, Sari," she began, her voice full of emotion, "You shouldn't ha—"

Her words were abruptly cut off as a giant wave crashed onto the beach, the water surging with an unnatural force. From the midst of the chaos, a menacing figure emerged. Hovering just above the ground, the figure was a metallic blue robot, its body slick with seawater, dripping as it moved. It stood tall and imposing, its red eyes glowing with a menacing light.

The once serene beach was now charged with an ominous presence, the air growing heavy with tension. The robot's eyes locked onto the cyan gem in Sari's hand, and its mechanical voice echoed in its internal systems, cold and emotionless:

SCANNING…

The cheetah mother and daughter stood frozen in terror, their hearts pounding as the rest of the beachgoers began to notice the robot's presence, panic quickly spreading through Adventure Square.

SCANNING COMPLETE. CYAN CHAOS EMERALD LOCATED.

The robot's eyes narrowed as it focused on the gem, one of the seven it had long sought after. For a brief moment, its internal systems reflected a hint of frustration—its radar had difficulty locating the emeralds. Perhaps it was the island's unique energy fields? Was the archipelago itself trying to prevent them from recollecting the emeralds? No matter, its creator would figure that out later. For now, the mission was clear...

INITIATING RETRIEVAL.

Lisa's heart raced as she watched the robot raise its hand, its metallic fingers spreading out like deadly talons, casting a shadow over her and her daughter as its eyes flashed red.

"NO!" Lisa's voice pierced through the tension, a mother's instinctual cry of desperation as she tried to step in front of her daughter, arms ready to spread wide in a protective gesture.

In an instant, the robot lunged forward, its hand reaching out toward the small cheetah. Time seemed to slow down, the moments stretching into an agonizing eternity. Sari's eyes widened in terror, her small body frozen in place as the metallic hand closed in on her.

"SARI!" Lisa screamed, her voice raw with fear and desperation. She rushed forward, her arms outstretched, trying to shield her daughter.

But she wasn't fast enough.

Slash!

The sickening sound of metal slicing through flesh lingered in the air followed by a moment of silence. Then, the echoes of the beach were shattered by a mother's anguished scream. The vibrant, lively beach was now a scene of horror, the echoes of laughter replaced by cries of despair and panic as the reality of what had just happened set in.

Metal Sonic stood tall, the Chaos Emerald clutched in its cold, mechanical grip. The air around it crackled with the energy of the emerald, the light from the gem reflecting off the red stains on its hand.

CHAOS EMERALD RETRIEVAL: COMPLETE.

The robot's voice resonated internally with a hint of satisfaction, its mission accomplished. This was easier than expected.

INITIATING RETURN.

With that, Metal Sonic's engines roared to life, the sound piercing the air as it ascended into the sky. It flew high above the tropical paradise, the cries of the people below growing fainter as it disappeared into the distance, heading north to return to its base. The mission was proceeding as planned. Soon, its creator would have all the power he needed to rule this pathetic world with the aid of that pathetic alien warlord, and soon, Metal Sonic would be the only Sonic left standing.

Prepare yourself, my loathsome copy.

As the robot faded into the sky, the island of Parusa was left in mourning. The once-bright day was now shrouded in darkness, as the people of Parusa were left to wonder how long their island could withstand the growing threat that loomed over Avalice.
