Dear Spencer
I don't have much news for you, but in this case no news is good. I haven't seen any sign that anyone in the magical world has managed to track me somehow. Nobody's turned up looking for me and I looked at the papers here in the library this morning and I haven't been reported missing in the nonmagical world at least, the mail ward prevents me from getting magical newspapers, which in general isn't much of a loss as far as learning what's going on since the Daily Prophet seems to miss so much and be so biased towards the ministry of magic compared to the 'Irish Nuachtán'. Though I don't know how much significance that is, I've never seen much of any news spread from one world to the Daily Prophet, or from the magical world to any of the paper's I've seen or news broadcasts I've heard in the nonmagical world, the 'Irish Nuachtán' is a little better at reporting happenings in the nonmagical world that might affect witches or wizards living in Ireland, but there's still heaps of things I thought that people ought to know that aren't discussed in the magical world.
I'm looking after myself, it's been a while since I've done as much cooking as I have this week and I find that I'm enjoying it. It helps to be able to have the freedom to choose what I feel like cooking and to cook things that I like to eat. I'm still eating a lot of salads, both Mrs Thomas and Mrs Finnegan taught me several variations I hadn't learned at the restaurant. Hogwarts never serves salad for some reason. I've also been experimenting with different types of fish, since fish and seafood is so easily available here.
It's been warm the last couple of days so I've spent most of my time on the beach, and a fair bit of it swimming or reading in the sun, I am enjoying swimming and walking in the sand seeing new things, there's not much else to do here on my own without drawing too much attention to myself. There's some heritage listed buildings and a fancy manor house and some ruins but firstly they're not the sort of thing a kid on his own would be interested in, and secondly after living in a 1,000 year old castle for two years I've had enough of old and draughty buildings. I'm interested in the history of the place and the people who lived there but not so much in the period furniture and decorations. Thank goodness for sunscreen potions that you only have to drink to be completely protected for the next 12 hours. The downside of it being great swimming weather is that sunshine brought out more people, even on the more secluded beaches I've found further from the town. It's odd to be so surrounded by people and not speak with a single one of them all day. Not that they're unfriendly exactly, and I'm not being rude. Just trying to stay far enough away from people that I won't get drawn into casual conversation in the hope that people won't remember seeing me if someone comes looking and asks them.
I'm noticing a distinct lack of people my age hanging about in the beach or in town during the day, so I feel like I'm standing out anyway. I half expect the police patrol to stop and ask me why I'm not in school. The weekend is coming and hopefully I will fit in a little better, perhaps even meet some people to hang out with for a while.
It's raining again today so I caught the bus to Canford Cliffs, to look around and to visit the library, it's a good day to be curled up in the library reading. I'm kind of regretting that the tent I chose because it looked normal on the outside, which means it doesn't have a chimney and an open fire. The charms on it keep me warm enough, but I miss having an actual fire or heater to sit beside, and there's not one here in the library either of course because the smoke wouldn't be good for the books, the place is centrally heated but the ducts are in the ceiling. They have a few local history books that look interesting. So, I'll be here for most of the next six hours or so. I will have to duck out and get some lunch later or the librarians will notice that I'm alone without food, and I want to leave early enough to hopefully mix in with the school crowd on the bus, so I can keep exploring my way along the beach.
I have plenty of money and an apartment with two bedrooms isn't going to cost that much more than a decent one-bedroom apartment, but if you're so concerned about earning the money to pay your way then I can cast glamour charm on you. They'd last a couple of hours and you're probably taller than me so it wouldn't be too difficult to make you look older to get into the casinos. Do you think that your friend Ethan would want to move in with us if you do move out with me? Would you want to invite him?
Batman is 6' 4" which isn't so extreme now that the average height of American men is 5'10 and a lot of people are taller, but in the 1930's the average height was 5' 6", he would've towered over almost everyone, even as Clark Kent.
Your friend always
Harry
