Dear Spencer
I'm sitting at the public library near the wharf at Southampton. Boarding starts in about three hours so this will be the last time you hear from me for a while unless there are public access computers and internet access on the boat. I tried to get on this morning but the public gangway hadn't been put in place yet and there was too much security for me to get onto the freight conveyer even with my invisibility cloak and an unlocking charm. I've got all my stuff packed up and shrunk down in my pockets and I've explained to Hedwig as best I can what's going to happen, and told her to find me when I'm alone on the boat tonight and I will try to find her a safe place to perch and sleep.
I've packed my bag with enough food for the week if I'm careful with it and magic will take care of cleaning me and my clothes and stuff, in case I have to hide the whole way across, though I hope to be able to blend in with the other passengers and experience some of the things the ship has to offer.
I think that this is going to work Spencer and all of a sudden, I'm so excited and nervous that I don't know what to do with myself. I've been keeping my eyes open and I don't think that I've seen anyone I know in the last couple of days. I got to Southampton last night and found a place not too far from the wharf to set up my tent. I walked down early this morning to make sure I know where the boat is and where the boarding ramps or gangway will be and hung about trying to overhear the schedule for the day. My only concern is how crowded the path to the boat will be. I'm sure that once I'm on I'll be able to find a place out of the way while everyone else settles in and watches the departure or whatever else they do but the gangway is the key. Everyone will be trying to board with their luggage and having to pass through the security checkpoint. I'm not sure how my cloak will hide me from security like that or whether it will be so crowded that people will run into me. I've found a place that hopefully I will be out of the way in while I wait for a break in the traffic. My backup plan is to use my cloak and broom to fly across to the boat but my invisibility cloak doesn't cover me completely while I am flying and when I tried it out, I noticed that I do still create a shadow which would be a problem while I'm in close looking for a deserted place to land. Unfortunately, there's no cloud forecast for today. I should have thought of using my broom last night. I think that the ship will move slowly enough for me to keep up with it until the sun goes down if I have to. Wish me luck.
According to the sign next to the boarding gate, the QE2 leaves the dock at five, my time and the library is open until six, so if I haven't managed to get on the ship and I can't find a safe place to get out my broom and take off before it's out of sight, I'll try to get back here before the library closes to let you know so we can hopefully work out a new plan. I'm ready to move on from living on the beach no matter what happens and I'm starting to feel like I need to get out of Britain before I'm found. I'm not sure if that's simply paranoia or if I've subconsciously seen something to make me think I'm not safe here. If I can't get to America, I'm going to head to Spain.
Batman is changing as time goes by, he's getting more powers, in the original comics he couldn't fly, his legs were so strong that he could jump up to the top of a multistorey building. He didn't start being able to fly for several years, somehow his cape made him able to. Then he could just fly quicker than an aeroplane, now he can fly so fast he can move through time. I wonder how they'll improve him next.
Hoping to see you soon
Harry
