Chapter 1
Hard Landing
Uzi woke up rubbing her hand across her forehead. "What… What happened?" Her question bounced across the walls of the room like a small ball. The more she looked, the more she began to wonder where she was. There were maps and hundreds of papers littering the grounds and walls. A vast amount of equipment was set about and seemed to be covered in dust and rubble. She saw N, V and J all waking up as well all wondering the same thing. Where were they?
"WHY IS SHE HERE!?!?" V screeched, finally breaking the silence between the four of them. "She lost!" At this point J was heading to a boarded up hole in the wall to kick out and fly away when she saw a heavily decayed corpse. She kept back a bit with a yelp and fear in her eyes. "Oh what scared the-" V's retort was cut short by a rotting arm shooting up and grabbing a board. Without so much as a breath lost, V cut the hand off at the base of the wrist… but the sight of decayed blood shocked and caused a spike of dread to pierce her. As the corpse rose up, the gas mask it wore was in tatters and had a gaping hole that exposed lipless teeth, its left arm leaked a brownish red fluid. The uniform looked to be from some bygone era. Yet it was the eyes that glowed an unnatural yellow, and the shrieks that sounded more animalistic than human that sent them all into a fit of screaming. J dumped a few hundreds from her own "MP5" style AR. It felt like a sack of bricks causing Uzi and N to start hunting for an exit out of the possible tomb they found themselves in.
The cries of the undead surrounded them but Uzi and N took the time to investigate their surroundings, N making sure to eliminate any threat that might harm Uzi. As they searched they found something that told them where they were, and when. "It… it can be… How are we in France in 1914!? That shouldn't be possible!?" Yet the paper in her hands told her that she was in a warzone during the first world war. Yet some of the technology didn't belong here as well. What looked like some sort of massive machine run off some sort of fuel was sitting in front of her, unmoving and silent. As she ran her hands across it came to life.
"Initiating Conversion Sequence." The voice came from the machine. This undead seemed to leap from portals on the floor wearing old crusaders garbs, their blue eyes seeming to stare into her soul. Uzi picked up a luger on the floor that she hadn't initially noticed. The kick of the small German made pistol came to be a bit of a surprise to her. But the zombie in front of her backed up a bit but kept coming, which led to the entire mag being dumped into it. She picked up a striper clip and shoved it into the weapon, the 7.63x25 fitting snugly in the internal magazine. N on the other hand wasn't having too much trouble telling himself that he was freeing them from whatever torment they must be in. "Conversion process complete, generator one now activated." The two of them watched the templar zombies fall to the ground.
"What… the… FUCK!?!?" Uzi shouted, her surprise and curiosity mixing together. How and why did these things start popping up? What the hell did this generator mean by "conversion process". And why was the soda machine behind them talking about reviving someone? But for now their only goal was finding an exit so that they could get out and figure out what hell is going on.
Eventually they find an exit. The door leading out looking out of place in these trenches. The two love birds look at one another with a bit of hesitation. "Should we?" N asked.
"Sure." Eventually, Uzi found a panel next to the door. As the door opened, a few zombies turned around and put down. Uzi found out the hard way that she couldn't use the solver, even as Cyn cried in her ear to use it, along with another voice.
"Uzi, Uzi, Uzi. I'm sure you expected something to happen, but you're not going to find anything like that useful." The baritone of the voice soothed Uzi a bit. Which made her incredibly uneasy. The path ahead led under a bridge and to another door, the dead climbing down from the side of the trenches only to be cut down by Uzi and N. The voice encouraged her to continue. Even while the massive machines they saw in the distance stomped across the battlefield. They found that the way forward was through perils they'd never thought possible.
