This story begins in the Sinoh Region.
It was a sunny Monday morning in the small town of Twinleaf.
On the second level of the southwest house, a petite, teenage girl with curly, brown hair named Sioku lay asleep in her bed.
Two Pokémon lay asleep beside her: the fire type Flareon and the water type Piplup.
Sioku woke up to the sound of her alarm which sat on the nightstand beside her bed.
After turning off her alarm clock, Sioku stared wide eyed at the cieling while lost in deep thought.
Her room was silent once the noise had stopped.
She then reached over to a clock on the wooden table and pressed a round button.
The screen read: 6:00 AM.
Flareon woke up and shook her head.
"Good morning, Flareon," greeted Sioku happily.
She petted the fox affectionately under her floppy ears.
Flareon began to wag her fluffy tail as she licked Sioku's face.
Sioku stretched as she looked out the window.
"I am excited to officially begin my Pokémon journey today," said Sioku to herself.
She sat up carefully, pushed the covers aside, then stepped onto the floor below.
Flareon yawned, stretched her body, then hopped down after Sioku.
"You're so cute, Flareon," Sioku commented before laughing out loud.
The fox Pokémon shook off in response.
On the first level, a middle-aged woman named Kara sat on one of the couches in the living room.
Her outfit consisted of red tennis shoes, ancle socks, blue jeans, a red long-sleeved shirt, and a red jacket.
Umbreon, a dark type fox Pokémon, lay curled up on the floor by Kara's feet.
A seven-year-old girl with curly, brown hair sat on the couch across from her mother.
Her outfit consisted of green tennis shoes, ancle socks, blue jeans, and a green T-shirt.
Kara pointed to the little girl and said, "Lynn, please go wake your sister up for me."
"Yes, Mama," replied Lynn as she stood up.
Before Lynn could make her way up the stairs, she was almost immediately greeted by their foxhound named Trooper.
Trooper jumped out of his dog bed, then rushed over to the small child.
He then brushed up against Lynn's legs while wagging his tail.
"Do you want to come upstairs with me, Trooper?" asked Lynn as she petted his back.
Trooper whined at her in response.
Lynn quickly made her way toward the staircase with Trooper following behind.
"Let's go, Trooper," said Lynn as she started to climb the stairs.
Trooper excitedly bolted after her.
Back in her room, Sioku put on her favorite music before making her way to a closet across the room.
She slowly opened one of the sliding glass doors.
Her outfit lay neatly folded on the wooden desk.
It consisted of black socks, tennis shoes, black pants, a white T-shirt, and a thin, white sweater.
After changing out of her pink pajamas, Sioku sat on the stool in front of her vanity.
Flareon laid on the rug by Sioku's feet.
Sioku retrieved her hairbrush from a drawer, then brushed her hair in front of a circular mirror.
The music pulled Sioku's mind into a train of deep thought as she styled her hair in two long braids.
A knock on Sioku's bedroom door suddenly brought her back to reality.
Flareon immediately rose from her spot, then rushed toward the door while panting.
Sioku giggled while taking a short video on her phone.
"Come in," she said.
The door opened slowly to reveal her younger sister followed by the dog.
Flareon met Lynn in the doorway while wagging her tail.
"Hi, Flareon," greeted Lynn as she petted the fox.
"Good morning, you two," greeted Sioku with a bright smile.
"Same to you, Sioku," replied Lynn.
Lynn entered Sioku's bedroom with Trooper by her side.
Flareon sniffed Trooper as she circled around him.
Trooper calmly approached Sioku before gently nudging her with his nose.
Sioku put her brush down, then turned around to greet the dog.
"Hi, Trooper," said Sioku as she hugged him.
Trooper nuzzled Sioku in return.
Sioku looked up at her younger sister and asked, "What brings you in here, Lynn?"
"Mama told me to wake you up," Lynn answered.
Lynn smiled while staring at Sioku's outfit.
"You look great, Sioku," she complemented.
"Thanks, Lynn," Sioku replied with a smile.
Sioku turned off the music before putting on her favorite necklace.
She picked up her bag, then rose from the stool.
Sioku picked up Piplup's Pokéball and commanded, "Piplup, return."
The penguin hopped off the bed, then let itself get pulled inside its Pokéball.
"Come on, Trooper," said Lynn as she exited Sioku's bedroom.
Trooper happily followed behind Lynn as they walked down the stairs.
Sioku laughed at the sound of his nails repeatedly tapping on the wood floor.
She quickly made her bed before leaving the room with her Pokémon.
After closing the door, Sioku made her way down the stairs with Flareon trotting beside her.
Kara was in the living room watching the news on Tv.
"Sioku! Please let Trooper out," she called.
"I'm on it," Sioku replied happily.
Sioku quickly led Flareon through the kitchen.
Trooper stood patiently at the back door.
"Go out," said Sioku after sliding the glass door open.
Trooper immediately took off like a flash.
Sioku slowly closed the door behind him.
"I wonder if Trooper has a speeding quirk," said Sioku to herself before giggling.
Sioku then started to prepare breakfast for Lynn and herself.
During Sioku's preparation, a cell phone buzzed on the table beside her.
A message from her best friend Ariel popped up on the screen: "Hi, Sioku, are you excited about starting your Pokémon journey?"
Sioku answered: "Heck yes I am!"
Ariel replied: "I'll see you on Route 201."
In the dining room, Sioku carefully set two plates of hot food on the table.
"Lynn! Breakfast is ready!" she called.
"I'm coming, Sioku," responded Lynn as she rushed into the room.
Sioku and Lynn sat down across from each other.
Flareon laid down under Sioku's chair.
"Good girl, Flareon," Sioku praised.
The two sisters enjoyed their meals in silence.
After breakfast, Sioku cleaned up the kitchen.
She then let Trooper inside the house.
He chased his tail a few times before shaking off.
"You're adorable, Trooper," Sioku commented.
Sioku led the happy foxhound into the living room.
He jumped up on the couch beside her as she sat down.
Flareon curled up beside the couch.
Sioku lifted Trooper into her lap, then hugged him tightly.
Trooper laid his head on Sioku's shoulder.
Lynn sat on the sofa beside her sister.
Kara looked away from the Tv and said, "Sioku, you and Flareon must visit Professor Roen's research lab in Sandgem Town before you begin your Pokémon journey."
"Of course, Mother," Sioku replied.
"Will anybody be traveling with you?" Kara inquired.
"Yes, Ariel wants to come with me. She is going to meet Flareon and me on Route 201," answered Sioku.
"That's good," said Kara.
"Have fun, Sioku," added Lynn.
Sioku gave a nod as she smiled at her younger sister.
She then nudged the dog gently and said, "Come on, Trooper, it's time to get down."
Trooper shook his head, then hopped off of Sioku's lap.
Lynn affectionately petted Trooper under his ears.
"Let's go, Flareon," commanded Sioku as she rose from her seat.
Flareon rose to her feet, shook off, then stood next to Sioku.
Sioku waved to her family before leading Flareon to the front door.
"I'll see you guys later," she said.
"Be careful, Sioku," Kara called back.
"Gye, Sioku," added Lynn.
Sioku quickly exited the house with Flareon by her side.
They traveled out of Twinleaf Town through the northern exit.
On the grassy path of Route 201, Sioku stood near a sign post to wait for her best friend.
"Piplup, come on out," said Sioku as she held up a Pokéball.
The penguin Pokémon, Piplup, emerged from its Pokéball and stood beside Sioku.
Before Sioku could proceed, she spotted a teenage girl with long, blond hair running toward her.
"Hold on, Sioku! I'll be right there!" she hollered.
Sioku grinned at the sound of her best friend's voice.
"Hi, Ariel!" she hollered back.
The blond girl, now known as Ariel, slowed down as she approached Sioku.
Ariel's outfit consisted of blue tenis shoes, ancle socks, blue jeans, and an orange T-shirt
Sioku and Ariel embraced each other tight.
Piplup stood patiently beside Sioku.
Flareon happily circled around the girls while wagging her tail.
Sioku giggled as she watched Flareon run around.
Ariel pointed down at Piplup and said, "Sioku, I see that you chose Piplup as your starter Pokémon."
"Yes, which starter Pokémon did you choose?" replied Sioku curiously.
"I chose Turtwig," answered Ariel as she retrieved a Pokéball from her bag.
She then pressed a button on her Pokéball, allowing the grass type turtle Pokémon to emerge.
Turtwig happily joined Piplup and Flareon.
"That's wonderful! Ariel, have you received a Pokédex from Professor Roen yet?" Sioku continued.
"Yes, I got it yesterday while Bella was at school. I also caught a Shinx," answered Ariel proudly.
"I'm going to get my Pokédex as soon as we arrive in Sandgem Town," Sioku responded.
"Shall we get going, Sioku?" asked Ariel.
Sioku gave a nod before grabbing Flareon's fur collar.
Sioku, Flareon, Ariel, and their Pokémon walked leisurely up the path near Lake Varity.
Sioku paused as she spotted a bird-like Pokémon flying above her head.
"Wo… that looks like a Starly," she thought.
"What's up, Sioku?" asked Ariel.
Sioku remained silent as she pointed upward.
"Oh, there's a Starly near us. You should catch it," Ariel suggested.
"That's exactly what I am about to do," responded Sioku confidently.
"Go get it, Sioku," encouraged Ariel.
Ariel returned Turtwig to its Pokéball before shifting her attention to Sioku's battle with the wild Starly.
"Piplup, it's time to battle. Use bubble on that Starly," said Sioku as she stood in place.
Piplup jumped up and shot a stream of bubbles at Starly.
Starly descended and tackled Piplup to the ground.
"Fight back with pound," Sioku instructed.
Piplup rose to its feet and pounded its beak into Starly's back.
Starly crashed to the floor with a thud.
"Let's finish this battle with peck," she added.
Piplup repeatedly pecked at Starly with its beak.
Starly didn't move from its spot on the ground.
"Now is your chance to catch that Starly, Sioku. Throw a Pokéball at it," said Ariel.
Sioku gave a thumbs up in response.
Sioku pulled an empty Pokéball out of her bag and threw it at the defeated Pokémon.
The ball wobbled a few times before it clicked shut around Starly.
Sioku picked up the occupied Pokéball and held it high in the air.
"We did it, Piplup! You and I have a new friend," she said cheerfully.
Piplup posed victoriously in return.
"Congratulations, Sioku," said Ariel.
"Thanks, Ariel," Sioku replied.
Sioku, Flareon, Piplup, and Ariel entered the small town of Sandgem.
There were a few buildings such as a Pokémon center, a Pokémart, a research lab, and two houses.
Sioku entered the research lab with Piplup, Flareon, and Ariel following behind her.
"Good morning, young lady," greeted a man who was seated at his desk.
"Same to you, sir, my name is Sioku Marie. Are you Professor Roen?" the girl responded politely.
"I sure am, welcome to my research lab. I have something that will be useful to you on your Pokémon journey," answered the professor with a smile.
He then handed her an electronic device and explained, "This machine right here is called a Pokédex. You can use it to learn more information about any Pokémon that you encounter."
"Thank you very much, Professor Roen," said Sioku graciously.
"You're most welcome, Sioku. I wish you the best of luck on your Pokémon journey," replied the professor.
"Good bye, Professor," added Ariel.
Sioku led her friends out of Professor Roen's research lab.
"Where are we going next?" asked Ariel.
"I need to stop at the Pokémon center before we proceed," answered Sioku.
"I'll show you where it is," offered Ariel as she took the lead.
She led Sioku and Flareon into a building next to the lab.
"Good morning, Nurse Joy, my name is Sioku Marie. I'm here to register for the Sinoh League and restore my Pokémon," greeted Sioku as she approached the front desk.
"Hello, Sioku, welcome to the Pokémon center. I would be glad to help you," replied the nurse with a friendly smile.
Sioku retrieved her Pokédex and handed it to Nurse Joy.
Nurse Joy placed the device on a scanner.
"Okay, Sioku, you are officially registered for the Sinoh League. I can tend to your Pokémon now," said Nurse Joy.
"Thank you," replied the brown haired girl.
Sioku returned Piplup to its Pokéball before placing both of her Pokémon into the tray on Nurse Joy's desk.
She waited patiently as Nurse Joy healed her Pokémon.
"Sioku, your Pokémon are healthy and ready to go. Please feel free to come again, said Nurse Joy as she set the tray down on her desk.
"Thank you very much," replied Sioku as she retrieved her Pokéballs.
Ariel rejoined Sioku and Flareon before leading them out of the Pokémon center.
"Sioku, do you have anymore plans today?" asked Ariel.
"No, but I would like to catch another Pokémon. You may come with me," answered Sioku.
"I'll take you to Route 202," Ariel offered.
"Sounds good," responded Sioku briefly.
Sioku and Flareon followed Ariel through the northern exit that led to Route 202.
"Come on out, Piplup," commanded Sioku as she opened up a Pokéball.
Piplup emerged from its Pokéball and stood next to Sioku.
Sioku and her Pokémon strolled leisurely through a patch of tall grass with Ariel leading the way.
A rustling sound could be heard from one of the bushes nearby.
"What could be hiding in that bush?" asked Ariel.
"A wild Pokémon," answered Sioku quietly.
Sioku stopped and waited for something to pop out of the bush.
Ariel stood silently beside her friend.
A dog-like creature slowly crawled out of the bush.
Sioku pointed her Pokédex at it.
The creature was an electric type Pokémon called Shinx.
"I want to catch that Shinx, Piplup. It's time to battle," she said happily.
"Go for it, Sioku," replied Ariel.
Sioku and Piplup moved until they were standing in front of Shinx.
"Piplup, use bubble," she commanded.
The penguin Pokémon shot a stream of bubbles at Shinx.
Shinx charged forward and tackled Piplup to the ground.
"Get up and use pound," Sioku instructed.
Piplup rose to its feet, then slammed its beak into Shinx' back.
Shinx stumbled backward in pain.
"Now use bubble again," she added.
Piplup aimed another stream of bubbles in Shinx' face.
Shinx hit Piplup directly with a thunder shock attack.
Sioku gasped in horror as she watched her Pokémon get zapped.
"Oh no… thunder shock is super effective against a water type Pokémon like Piplup. I've got to turn this battle around fast," she thought nervously.
The determined Piplup bravely shook it off.
"Piplup, let's finish this battle. Jump up and use pound one more time," she added.
Piplup jumped high in the air before landing on Shinx and striking it with a powerful pound attack.
"Nice work, Piplup," praised Sioku.
Shinx crashed to the ground with a hard thud.
Sioku grabbed an empty Pokéball out of her bag and threw it at the defeated Pokémon.
The Pokéball wobbled a few times before it clicked shut around Shinx.
Sioku picked up the occupied Pokéball and proudly held it in the air.
"We did it, Piplup, I caught Shinx!" she cheered.
Piplup jumped up with joy in response.
"Nice job, Sioku," praised Ariel.
"Sioku hugged her best friend, then returned Piplup to its Pokéball.
"My Piplup and Shinx need to be healed. Let's go back to the Pokémon center," Sioku suggested.
"Good idea," responded Ariel.
Sioku, Flareon, and Ariel reversed their rout back to the Pokémon center where Nurse Joy restored Piplup and Shinx to full health.
"Ariel, would you like to go to the lake with me? I am going to train Piplup and Shinx over there," said Sioku.
"Sure, I'm still able to hang out. I'd love to watch your training battle," Ariel answered with a smile.
Sioku smiled back, then led Ariel back to the lake on Route 201.
Flareon laid down under the shade of a tall tree.
Ariel sat on the ground next to Flareon.
Sioku stood in a patch of grass by the water.
"Piplup, Shinx, come on out!" she shouted confidently.
The two Pokémon emerged from their Pokéballs and stood in front of each other.
"Use thunder shock, Shinx," Sioku commanded.
Shinx fired an electric shock at Piplup.
"Piplup, dodge it and dive under the water," she instructed.
Piplup evaded Shinx' thunder shock by surrounding itself with bubbles, then diving into the lake.
Ariel watched Piplup with amazement.
Shinx stood intently by the water's edge and waited for piplup to come up to the surface.
"Shinx, use tackle as soon as Piplup comes up," said Sioku.
Right as Piplup reached the surface, Shinx propelled itself into the air using its hind legs and tackled Piplup to the ground.
"Piplup, use bubble to free yourself," Sioku commanded.
Piplup shot a more powerful stream of bubbles upward, causing Shinx to slide off.
Sioku stared at her penguin Pokémon's move in awe and gasped.
"Wo… that almost looked like bubble beam," she thought.
"Sioku! Your Piplup just learned how to use bubble beam!" called Ariel.
"I think your right, Ariel," said Sioku in realization.
She then turned back to Piplup and added, "Use pound on Shinx from behind.
Piplup slowly crept toward Shinx from behind, then struck it with a direct pound attack.
Electric sparks rapidly built up inside Shinx' body as it became startled.
Shinx released those sparks from the end of its tail.
"Look out, Piplup!" Sioku called to her Pokémon.
The sparks rapidly hit Piplup one after another.
Piplup stumbled backward in pain.
"Nice move, Shinx," Sioku praised.
Shinx wagged its tail happily in return.
Sioku returned both Pokémon to their Pokéballs.
"You guys have had enough training for now. I'm really proud of your progress," she said happily.
Flareon stretched her body before shaking off.
Pieces of grass flew from the fox Pokémon's fur.
Ariel and Flareon then rejoined Sioku by the water's edge.
"Sioku, your Pokémon's moves are looking good. Keep up the great work," Ariel praised.
"Thank you, Ariel," replied Sioku.
"Hey, Sioku, would you like to come over to my place?" asked Ariel cheerfully.
"Sure, but I need to ask my mom for permission first. This shouldn't take long," answered Sioku as she retrieved her phone.
Sioku dialed her mom's number, then let the phone ring.
Kara picked up the other line almost instantly.
"Good afternoon, Sioku," Kara greeted.
"Hello, Mother, Ariel and I are at the lake. I've been training two of my Pokémon there," Sioku answered.
"That's good, did you go see Professor Roen at his research lab?" Kara inquired.
"Yes, Mother, I received a Pokédex from him. I also registered for the Sinoh League at the Pokémon center. Then I caught a Shinx on Route 202," Sioku explained.
"Would you mind if I went to Ariel's house with her?" asked Sioku.
"Not at all, but please be safe. I would like you to return home by tomorrow morning," answered Kara firmly.
"You have my word, Mother," Sioku added before she ended the call.
Sioku put her phone away, then grinned at Ariel.
"My Mom gave me permission to come over," she said.
"Really? That's great news!" exclaimed Ariel.
"I'm so excited to see your little sister again," Sioku added.
"Bella will be happy to see you and Flareon again," Ariel responded.
Sioku and Flareon followed Ariel back into Twinleaf Town.
They approached the southeast house before Ariel unlocked the door.
Ariel opened the door, then stepped inside.
Much to Ariel's surprise, a little girl with long, blond hair sprinted toward her.
Her outfit consisted of pink, sparkly sandals, pink leggings, and a purple, frilly dress with flower designs on the front.
"Hi, Sissy; hi, Sio," she greeted happily.
"Hey, Bella," replied Ariel with a smile of her own.
"Hello, cutey," added Sioku.
Sioku entered the house first with Flareon following behind her.
Ariel closed the door, then led Bella and Sioku into the living room.
