Just a small update with how Jim is doing. It's been a rough couple of weeks but we are still working to make him comfortable and as healthy as possible till the end.
It had been a long two weeks but Kim was finally back in Chicago. However Adam didn't know that just yet. She planned her flight so she would get back just before he was to leave work. She entered the district smiling brightly excited to reunited with her love. "Kim your back! How's your friend?" Platt asked surprised to see Kim. "Surprisingly alive. And stable. But that's what money and good insurance does I guess. I'm not sure he will get much quality of life back but he's in a stable place." Kim shrugged a bit not sure how to really explain it. "Sounds rough. And maybe sounds like they made the wrong decision based on your face." Platt saw Kim laughing. "Yup! I would have let him go. But they think this is right so I stay silent. And that means coming home." Kim sighed heavily. "Gotcha! Go up and surprise your man." Platt knew he had no idea she was coming.
The team was finishing up a case as they heard the gate open. They weren't expecting anyone but they all turned to see Kim coming up the stairs. "Kim? You're home?" Adam jumped up pulling her into his arms holding her tight. "I assume you are excited?" She whispered. "Oh absolutely! So I'm so thankful you are home!" He knew they had an audience but he couldn't help but kiss her. "Well damn! I'm thrilled too. He's more stable and they moved him to rehab. So I had to go. I was ready to flip my shit. Like how much better do they actually think he is going to get at 86 years old. Every doctor has reminded us how severe his situation is. So I removed myself from the situation that frustrates me to no end." She shrugged a bit but never breaking the full hold. "That's just insane. Are they really expecting him to walk again on his own?" He was shocked. "Maybe not on his own but definitely with the walker still. I think he's going to skilled nursing for 3 months after the rehab. But it's still insane." She sighed moving back a bit more laughing a bit.
"Oh you have a story to tell!" He could see it was amusing for sure. "Oh lord do I. It's gross as hell though. So yesterday I was visiting and I had to leave by 5:15 since I had dinner reservations with friends. So it was maybe 4 ish and the aide came in to check on him. Asking him if he was wet and could she check. She stands him up in the room next the bed and checks to see he's wet. So she drops his pants right in front of me with no warning to change him." She pauses briefly before continuing. "So then he tells the aide he needs to pee. So she doesn't move him to the bathroom just kept him standing letting him pee into a bottle. Still in front of me and then on top of it all he shits!" She paused again Adam cracking up. "Wait it gets slightly worse because the aide said if she knew he was going to do all this she would have moved him to the bathroom so his lovely daughter didn't have to see all that. I chimed in at this point stating I was just the friend. Needless to say it was awkward as hell and if you ever need to know what a herniated ball looks like just let me know." Now Adam looked sick but still laughing at her.
"God that's funny as hell. But I'm sorry." He kept laughing. "Then at dinner after I explain all this to friends who know Jim by the way. Two of the asshole man children decided to take a sausage and place it in between two meatballs for me. I literally almost killed them. Fucking children!" Kim sighed but Adam was still laughing more at how dramatic she was being but it was all too funny not to laugh. "Sounds eventful. But you are home now so you can just relax again you definitely need it. But I want you to know that I'm proud of you for how well you handled this all this time. You ate every day, you stayed hydrated, you worked out everyday and you talked about it all. I'm so thankful for all of that." He hugged her again just happy she was back in his arms.
"You ready to head home?" Adam asked knowing they were done for the day. "Absolutely! I just want my own bed, my own pillow, my own sheets and you. It's been lonely without you for sure." She knew it would be a long night together. "It definitely has been lonely. So let's head out." The couple waved as they headed out for the night. "Lake house or condo?" He asked not sure where she wanted to crash for the night. "Lake house. I know the condo is closer but I need the water." She watched him nod. They both headed to the lake house separately. He knew there wasn't much to eat there but it was the best choice for her. As soon as they arrived she headed right to the dock. He followed her needing to feel her close again. The curled up together on the couch just listening to the water. "I will order dinner since I'm sure you ate before your flight and not since then." He smiled knowing her so well. "Yes please. I am hungry but I just really needed to get home, to you." Kim knew he was smiling.
"That's all I really wanted as well. Knowing how stressed you were there wasn't filling me with much joy so I'm happy you are home now. Safe and sound. And relatively unharmed. I think mentally you have work to do again but it will happen. I know you will get there again." He held her till the food arrived. He didn't dare move her knowing she needed this more than anything at that moment. He returned with food and drinks but also her favorite blanket. He wanted to keep her warm as the night wore on. It would get cooler as the sun started to set so this was perfect for her. "Darling. Here's your dinner and a drink." He placed the items on the table in front of her. He hadn't thought a coffee table was needed in the screened on porch but it was coming in handy right now. "Thank you. I'm pretty zoned out right now." She admitted but he already knew that. He was sure she would zone out for a day or two before she bounced back. However that seemed pretty normal for her and given the situation it most definitely not a surprise.
The couple ate in silence just enjoying each other's company. It was crazy to the couple how the last two weeks had gone. Neither thought Kim would have been gone so long nor that Jim would still be alive seemingly doing well. Or as well as one can expect. "Some people went to visit him today. They said he was engaged in conversation, watching golf and told them about the bracelet I put on his wrist. I'm sure he doesn't remember the significance of it but he knew I gave it to him so I'm with him always." She had startled him when she spoke but he was smiling knowing she was happy Jim remembered the bracelet and that it came from Kim. "That's wonderful. What is the significance of it?" He wasn't sure since she never mentioned it. "So it was one of the plastic bracelets I always wear. The one I gave him was a Valentine's Day one. But the black bead has mud from the lowest point on earth. It's a reminder to stay hopeful when you feel hopeless. And the white bead is water from the highest point on earth. And that is a reminder to stay humble when you feel on top of the world." She showed him the one she had on.
"I always wondered why you wore these. Do the colors have meanings?" He held her bracelet looking it over. "Some are for causes, save the ocean, save the sharks. Some are for charities. They have them for sports teams as well. They actually have a monthly membership program which yes I have. It's like 20 a month. But I think it's a good reminder to wear everyday." She shrugged a bit. "I like it. And it's nice to share it with Jim. He needs all the hope he can get." He squeezed her hand. "Maybe I should get one to wear too. We can match." He knew she would love that. "I will let you pick it out." She pulled up the site letting him see all the options. Literally hundreds of options with the sports teams mixed in. "Man I don't even know how to choose. Maybe just the basic so it goes with everything and doesn't stand out too much at work?" He watched her smile adding it to the cart. She found another one she liked and added it before finalizing the order.
"You ready to head in?" Kim asked. "Sure. We should clean this up and get your suitcase from the car. I'm sure you need to do some wash." He knew she hated having dirty clothes. "Well I did have to do laundry there several times since I didn't plan to be there so long. But yes I have a lot of dirty items." She headed right to the house to load the dishwasher and throw out the trash. "I also grabbed a few surprises for you." She winked as she moved to the car. She returned with her suitcase heading right to the bedroom. She opened it up and removed the gifts handing them to Adam. He laughed right away but was happy. "Thank you for my donut and coffee pods from Wawa. That was very kind of you." It wasn't what he expected but he would take it. "Oh you thought it was a dirty gift?" She asked her tone was very sassy. "Yeah I did." He wouldn't lie. "Well good to know that will be here on a few days. Had to ship that back. The airport is less than 3 miles from a sex shop so I looked for some new outfits and things." She watched his eyes darken. "See now that's what I'm talking about!" He grabbed her kissing her hard.
"Suitcase first, loving second." She needed the suitcase put away before she did anything else. Her mind was pure chaos at the moment so other things needed to be in line to keep the crazy to a minimum. Adam helped clean out her suitcase seeing a few new shirts and things he assumed she bought since she had been gone so long. He moved her toiletries back to the bathroom while she put her suitcase away. The last thing was the extra shoes put in the closet. He could see she was crashing now that she was home and the fight was wearing off. "We don't have to tonight. You are clearly struggling. That's okay." He watched her nod. "Nope I need it. One it's been too long and two because I want to feel alive again. I feel pretty dead inside from all the craziness." She looked up seeing nothing but love on his face. "Okay. Do you want control? Or are you letting me do whatever I want?" He asked knowing both worked but sometimes it was nice giving up complete control. "Whatever you want. You once told me my body tells you everything you need to know. So do your thing." Kim stood up to start stripping her clothes.
"That's my job. Don't make me spank you!" He warmed though they both enjoyed it. So it really wasn't punishment. "Maybe I want that." She sassed knowing how to rile him up. "So that's how it's going to be. Okay. You asked for it." He watched her eyes flashing with excitement. But he was thrilled she looked alive again. The shine was back on. He came back towards the bed with cuffs and the paddle which they both loved. It was a rush that neither could explain. "Assume the position perp!" Adam stated harshly but not yelling. Kim moved to the wall placing her arms behind her back. But never said a word. He hadn't stayed that she could so she remained silent. He cuffed her a bit roughly but not tight so it wouldn't leave a mark. "You must be loud. Understood?" He wanted to hear her, he loved hearing her moaning for him. "Yes Officer!" "I wish I could bring him here. To be by the water. I think he would like that." She knew he had had a beach house at one point and a house on a small lake. But this was different. It was quiet, peaceful. No one bothering you, no golfers riding by. Maybe it would get crazier as the summer moved on but for now it felt like heaven. "I'm sure he would. Who wouldn't? You would have to be crazy not to love it here." He felt her smiling wider now. "How about a snack and a drink before we continue?" She looked up seeing him happy with her request. They dressed slightly and moved to the kitchen to grab some food. They didn't have much, mostly leftovers from dinner but it was something. "Guess I need to food shop tomorrow huh?" She laughed seeing the fridge empty. "Yeah I lived at the condo since it was closer to work. It was just easier after the long days. I may have worked some overtime to fill the time while you were gone." He knew she wouldn't be happy about that. They already worked long hours. "I get it. But you can't fall apart either. So I hope you took care of yourself." She was stern but loving. "I absolutely did." He kissed her softly allowing her to eat some more.
"Ready to head back to bed?" Kim asked watching his every move. "Of course. I'm a,ways ready for bed time with you." He took her hand leading her back to their room. She pushed him back till he fell on the bed. He laughed but loved where this was going. She yanked his boxers down roughly before letting him get comfortable on the bed. She straddled his waist with just an over sized shirt on. It was his and he loved her wearing his clothes. She leaned down kissed him hard wanting to give him some love and attention since he had given so much to her already. Slowly Kim moved down his neck seeing him moving to give her better access. She smiled licking the column of his neck. He was moaning loving where she was headed. His hands holding her hips steady. He was so damn thankful to have her home in one piece. They both knew tough times were ahead but for now they were stable, happy and healthy.
They would get through this just like everything else life threw at them. Together.
