Equestria/ Changeling lands/ On the advance towards the main hive/ June 18th-July 1st/ 1918

"Celestia's wrath incoming!" One of the Changeling Honor guards shrieked before several loud screeching sounds were heard followed by several bombs. Hundreds of the Changelings were vaporized, disembowel, cut to pieces, or simply went insane as the bombardments went on and on.

"Fall back fall back!" another yelled before he was turned to mist by an incoming artillery shell.

The entire frontline collapsed as changelings ran for their lives. Another complete and utterly route for the once proud changeling army. Hundreds lied dead on the fields of Champs Oasis. The trees burning like some sick macabre show.

"What are you doing fool! Thats in the direction of the Equestrian border!" A changeling officer shouted at his drones as they ran eastwards.

"Anything's better than this!" The changelings responded as they ran for their lives.

Around 1,000 disorganized Changelings ran for their lives and towards the borders of a former enemy.

Human POV:

"Gott Mit Uns!" A comrade beside Maximilian yelled as he used his flamethrower to torch several wounded hell spawns alive. They advanced forward with no mercy. The flamethrowers, always ahead of the regular storm troopers. They jumped inside a captured hell spawn position which was made out of fallen trees and mowed down the survivors with their MP18 submachine guns.

Maximilian fired in the thousands of retreating creatures as they flew and galloped away in terror. As the saying goes Karma's a bitch and it was now time for the German empire to get its much-needed revenge against these creatures for the losses suffered in champagne.

One of the dying creatures extended a hoof to him as expecting mercy. Maximilian put his boot on the creatures head and pushed down. The creature's head was slowly and painfully crushed under Maximilians boot as Max grinned down at the suffering creature.

"Not so scary anymore, huh." He said in a mocking tone. Not that the creature he was finishing off could understand.

The creature's head gave in as its brains were crushed as well as its skull. Maximilian wiped off the gunk and green blood off his boot lazily before continuing to march on.

Allied command center

"So, for we've achieved quite the breakthrough." Sir Douglas Haege began as he sipped tea.

"We sure have my British friend." Commander in Chief of allied forced Robert Neaville said in an accented English.

"Some of our men have even reached the coast I've heard." Neaville added.

"Wonder how the good chaps are doing anyways." Haege said chuckling

Changeling coastline/ British POV:

"It burns! It burns! Aggh!" A poor chap screamed as he was hit by and acid blast.

"Keep moving! Any fool who decides to retreat will be shot!" A British officer yelled as he shot at another poor fellow trying to fall back.

"Common boys forward we are almost to the coast! I can see it with my own eyes!" A soldier yelled as thousands of British soldiers charged towards the final obstacle of their march to the sea of this new land. A hastily fortified hill held by several of those creatures who were firing down acid blasts and whatever foul and tainted magic they had.

"Britannia shall rule the waves once more!" Another yelled before he was cut in two by a magic blast. His two halves falling down on the floor leaving a trail of guts and blood.

Changeling POV:

"Keep your head down Halax!" Larvia said as they took cover behind a large rock on the hill. It was hard to tell what the Biped were even shooting at them. Just one moment you were there and next you had a ball sized hole in your head.

"I just want to try to get a good shot off them don't worry dear." Halax said smirking as he popped his head out of the rocks on the hill and fired a beam of magic.

"See not so ba-"

Bang!

Halax fell to the floor with a ball size hole in his head. His blood flew all over Larvia.

"No, no, no, no. This can't be happening" She mumbled to herself before she heard a screeching sound, and her world went black instantly.

French POV/ Changeling Coastline

"Blast those Bug/Horse Hell spawn to oblivion" Colonel Jocke Peir said as he looked at his watch.

"Yes sir!" An artillery man said as he gave a quick salute and relayed his orders to the artillery man setting up the 75mm guns.

Jocke Peir had come a long way since Champagne. He'd been awarded the Cruix De Guerri and was promoted to Colonel for being the first one to discover the gate way before he'd been ambushed with his men on the road.

He looked over at the 6 75mm guns set up.

"Ready to fire?" He asked the artillery men as they nodded.

Before the first gun could fire, however, one of the crew was hit in the head with an acid blast. He screamed in agony as he fell back down begging for help. With no medics nearby Jocke walked over to the man and put a bullet in his head. The man's misery was now over.

One of the artillery crew men took careful aim at the hill ahead where the British were charging with his Lebel Mil rifle which had a scope on it and fired. "Bastard who sharpshooted one of our crew mates is dead." He then said.

"Good begin bombardment." Jocke said sighing

The guns were aimed towards the hill and the first shell were fired.

The hill was peppered with artillery shell as they slammed into the crest and then the top. Jocke could only imagine the hell those hell spawn where experiencing.

Analysis POV:

The Changeling army had all but collapsed by the end of June as a proper fighting force. The Worker drones were now being pressed into service by the queen to make up with the catastrophic losses. The Changelings were outnumbered, out gunned, and caught completely off guard by the sheer size and strength of the invasion. The human way of warfare perfectly counter acted the changeling way of warfare. Human warfare by the 1900s was large armies advancing in an interconnected fashion to form an ever so advancing front. Changelings and in retrospect all the nations of equestrian's way of warfare were that of Indvidual armies advancing on their own. Humans fought on vast fronts while the kingdoms of Equestria followed a medieval way of warfare with individual armies marching around on their own. '

So, when the human attack landed on the changeling's doorstep and the initial attack to push it back across the gate failed the human offensive came as one giant tsunami of tanks, men, and artillery. Your average army in WW1 had around 150,000 men. At max the Changeling army had 75,000 men at its height including its elite honor guard. Considering this is a full-scale invasion of the changeling lands and if you did any research on WW1, you would see why the Changelings get curved stomped. The issue comes with the fact of one Human tactics in the 1900s are way different than that of Equestrias nations and 2 the Changelings lack the numbers. The Changelings have only 1 large hive. I'm sure they have some smaller ones dotted about, but they lack a manpower pool. The French during 1914 fielded about 8 armies and some of these armies were eventually absorbed into larger armies to create a series of sectors on the western front. The same applied to the German armies.

Considering this is a joint effort and that not all armies would be involved in the invasion just in case the first armies sent forward get annihilated because Humanity is largely in the dark about equestria the invasion force would be composed of 1 army from each of the currently participating nations.

The French would send in either the 3rd or 2nd army. Since Petain is in command of the Champagne sector and is leading French forces in the invasion it would be the second which was made up of about 200,000 men by 1918 in our timeline however considering the war ends in 1917 in this timeline that army is going to be way larger as the great powers aren't killing each other anymore. Already the Changelings are massively outnumbering and that is considering the German 7th army in the Champagne sector which was made up of about 125,000 men who came in the 2nd wave over the gate. Italy would mobilize the 5th army which was closest to the French border during the war and was made up of around 100,000 men or so if I'm right. The British would play it safe and send in an expeditionary force that is around the same number as that during the beginning of WW1, that being 60,000 or so men.

Most of the time when invading a country, the invading force will suffer from geography favoring the defenders however this is not the case. The Changeling lands are perfect for tanks as they are just a flat waste land with the occasional hill along the coast or oasis. The Changelings were doomed from the start of the invasion not due to humanity having superior technology (That did play a part however) but mainly because of terrain and being flat out outnumbered. For every 1 human a changeling kills 10x 10x will replace him.

European armies were used to sustaining mass causalities unlike Equestrian armies which were why they were so large. Now we get into technology as while yes, we have the advantage per say, humans are also physically weak to magic making them easy to kill by a magic blast and a human tank can easily be destroyed by a high-level magic blast such as the 1 the honor guard uses. The main trump card of the humans is artillery.

When an artillery shell is fired (We are talking about ww1 era artillery) it makes a long curve before coming back down. This is what allows artillery to fire from behind a hill instead of the shell ramming straight into it (Unless you're aiming exactly for the hill). Human artillery can safely rain down hellfire from hidden positions. The Changeling issue (This also applies to Ponys) is that for destructive high-level spell you have to see your target. Artillery can stay safely hidden behind a hill and the magic blast isn't going to do shit because it goes in a straight line you cannot make it go in an arch as a shell does for example.

Without being able to physically see the target it subverts the use of magic unless a Changeling assault is successful and the actually get to the guns. Artillery also comes (In the changeling campiagn things get different when Humans come into contact with pony's) in larger numbers than changelings who are adapt in high level spells. Only the Honor guards have high level destructive magic beams, and they number in the lower thousands at best. Humans have thousands of artillery pieces being assembled per day as well as tanks.

Now let's look at the other nations of Equestria and how they were doing.

Griffonstone

Griffonstone was in the process of, as well saw several chapters before, developing magical artillery. Archibald Talon had effectively taken control of Griffonstone and was promising the Griffons a new era of prosperity and glorious victories. While he was certainly reforming and trying to get the Ragtag Griffon army in shape, he had already begun hearing rumors of some trouble stirring up in the changeling lands via his informants in Equestria. Wrongly believing this meant a massive changeling invasion he threw everything he could to try to cobble up a more effective army in case the Equestrian empire fell.

Equestrian empire

After having to deal with Tirek and then discord causing a bit more chaos by making the everfree forest grow a lot peace had finally fallen over Equestria. Kind of. Celestia, Luna, and a small council that didn't include the elements knew about the mess going on in the changeling lands. As seen in the chapters beforehand their entire strategy revolved around using the changelings as cannon fodder to defeat the "Bipeds". The Strategy was to kill two birds with one stone. This supposedly hostile new species would be crushed by the changelings while also inflicting heavy enough losses to prevent any future changeling incursion. Changeling refugees were allowed into Equestria under the condition of reformation which was a far better choice for the desperate species than death at the hands of a merciless enemy. Equestria fortified its border with the changelings to prevent any possible Biped incursions. Opinions on the Bipeds were further soured when princess Luna returned after he brief glimpse into Biped dreams. This made Celestia and most of her council believe the Bipeds were war mongers that would eventually become a threat. For however Equestrian royal guard units were instructed to not act offensively. All it would take was some form of brash behavior to bring out open conflict. However Brash behavior did happen.

Equestria/ Equestrian empire lands/ Port of Galloping stead/ July 8th/ 1918

They town or port of Galloping stead lays near the Changeling border on the coast. The town/port found itself founded with escaping changeling refugees. With the allied armies closing in along the coastline they crossed the Equestrian border and encounter the Pony's for the very first time.

Colonel Jocke Pier sat calmly in his chair as a small delegation of a species he labeled the horse people walked up to him. They had a nice pleasant little port where the hell spawn creatures had fled into and had been given asylum. Why such creatures were allowed into the horse people's lands were beyond him but right now, one needed to act regally. There was no point in starting up such a fuss. All he needed to do was to get a map of the land. Such a map would be key to carrying out the war effort against the creatures.

He smoked on his pipe while he fixed his moustache as he and the delegation stood in an awkward standoff. These horse people came in a series of bright and curious fur colors that he could observe for hours. Their architecture was eerily human and a looked medieval in some respects. The horse in front of him was brown in fur color and was wearing a golden armor that was similar in some aspect to that of the ancient hoplites. Like the creatures these horse people, well some of them had horns which Jocke knew meant they had similar magical capabilities to that of the creatures.

Right now, they were located several kilometers away from the port in a small house. He was glad they spoke English as communication would have been difficult otherwise. While he was no master at speaking English, he knew the basics.

"Right so gentlemen or should I say gentle horses?" Jocke began his English heavily accented.

The Horse in armor spoke up.

"Gentle Pony's."

"Understood my fine sir. My name is Jocke Pier, I hail from the 3rd Republic of France, and my rank is Colonel. I'm currently leading my forces after those creatures you are currently sheltering. They invaded our lands, and we simply seek you to hand them over and we will never bother you again. Well until proper diplomat ties between your nation and mine are establish as you can tell my nation, and the creatures are in the middle of a war." Jocke said calmly though he was nervous.

His men were camp several kilometers away from the meeting site.

"We have orders from our Princess to allow the Changelings or creatures as you call them to be granted asylum in our land if they flee over our borders. I kindly ask of you to move your army away from the port and to not return." The armored horse spoke.

The entire circumstances off the meeting were rather awkward in itself. Some of his scouting parties stumbled upon a patrol of these creatures which led to an awkward standoff which led to this. At least this land had some greenery and not waste land as that's all he'd seen in this campaign.

"I have one last request since you aren't willing to hand over the creatures you are sheltering. Could you perhaps grant us a map of the land, so we do not lose our way and stumble across your borders again?"

The answer of the horse was a resounding "No".

"Also. You must withdraw your army in 2 hours, or it will prompt us to take military action." The Armored horse said as his collages looked at him in shock.

"I do not have the time to do that request it would take a maximum of 12 hours, and my men need rest." Jocke pier said.

"Very well then. The Equestrian Royal guard shall not waver, and you will be so utterly humiliated for your arrogance." The Armored horse said before talking out. Jocke Pier looked over to the other stunned delegates of the horse people of this town/ port and they seemed dumb founded by their collage's aggression.

"Look sir, he can be rather...aggressive and doesn't take no for an answer...The Princess will probably remove him when word gets out of his foolishness but for now, we have a battle on our hands. I or my collages cannot do anything to stop him since he commands the royal guard of the city. If the battle does happen, can you conduct it somewhat mercifully on him." One of the delegate, a horse with a top hat and moustache said. Jocke had no Clue who these princesses were, but he assumed it was the governing body of this species. So, they followed a monarchy most likely. However, he wasn't going to tolerate the fact this horse man so blatantly declared battle on him because Jocke had dared to give his men some rest. No, he wouldn't allow such arrogance to so easily slide.

"My Gentle Pony's while our species have only known each other for about 5 hours at this point when is battle ever merciful." Jocke said coldly before standing up and leaving.
