The next day, Sonic got a call from Tails at 6:00 in the morning.
Sonic: "Tails… what are you calling me so early for?"
Tails: "Well, I did some Googling, and I think I found the laboratory where they're developing this new hedgehog you're so upset about."
Sonic: "Where is it?"
Tails: "It's on some remote island in the Pacific Ocean called Fijivmo. They're definitely trying to be secretive about the whole thing. Looks like the local population isn't too happy about it. They cut down about half the island's forest to set up shop there."
Sonic: "Hmm. Never been."
Tails: "Yes, it might take me a little while to get there…"
Sonic: "Why don't I just give you a piggyback ride?"
Tails: "That didn't work too well last time. Remember?"
Sonic: "Oh, yeah, that's right…"
Waiting for other people (or animals) to show up at a given place was a general pain point for Sonic. For example, he would make plans to go eat at a restaurant. And he would show up really quickly and have to wait what seemed like forever for his colleague to arrive.
Sonic: "Well what the hell am I supposed to do in the Pacific while I wait for your ass to arrive?"
Tails: "I don't know, man. Why don't you check out Australia? It's nearby. I hear the beaches are beautiful."
Sonic sighed.
"Fine," he said, shaking his head in disapproval.
Tails: "I need to pack my things. I'll hopefully be flying in around this time tomorrow. See you there in about 24 hours. I'll send you the coordinates."
And with that, Sonic received the coordinates from Tails on his phone and started running toward them.
