It feels a little weird for Kurt to stay after his last class. He's nervous. And exited. And scared. And so in love with Blaine Anderson. His teacher.
"For a start I thought that you just sing your song and I'll listen and correct you" the teacher proposes as soon as it's just them in the classroom. "The whole song?" Kurt asks to make sure and the other man nods "I'll take notes and we talk after. We will focus on your breathing but I want to hear it completely to see what we're working with and what can be improved". "Okay" Kurt nods. The curly haired man takes a pen and paper, ready to take notes and sits down "Whenever you're ready".
Share my life, take me for what I am
'Cause I'll never change all my colours for you
Take my love, I'll never ask for too much
Just all that you are and everything that you do
I don't really need to look very much further
I don't wanna have to go where you don't follow
I won't hold it back again, this passion inside
Can't run from myself, there's nowhere to hide
Don't make me close one more door
I don't wanna hurt anymore
Stay in my arms if you dare
Or must I imagine you there?
Don't walk away from me
I have nothing, nothing, nothing
If I don't have you
You, you, you, you, you
You see through, right to the heart of me
You break down my walls with the strength of your love
I never knew love like I've known it with you
Will a memory survive, one I can hold on to?
I don't really need to look very much further
I don't wanna have to go where you don't follow
I won't hold it back again, this passion inside
I can't run from myself, there's nowhere to hide
Your love I'll remember forever
Don't make me close one more door
I don't wanna hurt anymore
Stay in my arms if you dare
Or must I imagine you there?
Don't walk away from me
I have nothing, nothing, nothing
Don't make me close one more door
I don't wanna hurt anymore
Stay in my arms if you dare
Or must I imagine you there?
Don't walk away from me, no
Don't walk away from me
Don't you dare walk away from me
I have nothing, nothing, nothing
If I don't have you, you
If I don't have you
Oh, oh-oh
"That was really good" Blaine says. He's surprised he gets any words out at all. Sure he heard Kurts voice before but this was impressive and he's stunned. "I like that you did it in original key, which is a challenge but you did that very good. You can get a little stronger at the higher parts but we'll work on that too" the teacher compliments. "Thank you Mr. Anderson" Kurt says, trying to hide his blush.
"If you're okay with that too how about you just call me Blaine? It's just the two of us and that way it's a little less formal. It's technically not class or school anymore but just two music enthusiasts working on a piece" the curly haired man proposes and Kurt nods "I'm okay with Blaine and Kurt". "Awesome. Let's get to work then". And so they start working on techniques, seeing how well Kurt manages some warm ups and another run through close to the end.
About an hour later Kurt has to go because it's his turn cooking and since they already made progress, according to Blaine, he wishes Kurt a nice evening. They'll see each other again on Wednesday and as long Kurt should try some of the warm ups he learned today. While eating dinner Kurt tells the girls about his first private lesson with Mr. Anderson.
On Wednesday they work on Kurts posture and how he can improve his breath control and the strength in his voice just by the way he's standing. Again they go home with more progress but there's only so much progress that can be made in half a week of tutoring sessions. The next Monday Kurt already feels less nervous. Calling Mr. Anderson by his first name definitely helped but the butterflies only got stronger and stronger.
Blaine has to focus during tutoring sessions and class but god these feelings. It was his idea to be less formal but every time he hears Kurt say his name something in him starts to glow. He feels warm. Whole. When he says Kurts name he feels as if it's the most precious word he can say. Kurt. Kurt. Kurt. He never wants tutoring sessions to end, never let Kurt go, never say goodbye even if it's followed by a see you in class. But at the same time he's glad when he's home because every time he has to fight his heart, wanting to hug Kurt, kiss him, touch him and tell him how he feels but they are student and teacher. Everything his heart wants is wrong. His head knows that but why is it so hard?
"I have to go a bit earlier today because my dad wanted to facetime me after work. Maybe we could practice a bit longer on Wednesday instead?" Kurt says and Blaine nods "Fine by me. Where does your father live? If you don't mind me asking of course". "Lima. We went to high school there and once in a while I visit him. He owns a tire shop so it's harder for him to take days off and come here for a visit" the younger man shares.
"Lima? Cool. I'm from Westerville. That's not too far apart. Which high school did you go to?" Blaine asks with a grin. "McKinley" Kurt answers and the grin on the other mans face only widens "Have you been in the glee club? When I was in high school they were really good". "I was and we were good. Won two nationals in a row before I graduated" Kurt smiles "You were in a glee club too?". "Dalton Academy Warblers. I was their lead most of the time" Blaine tells and Kurts eyes widen "They were so good. Almost won against us at Nationals one year".
That Monday Kurt and Blaine only practice for about ten minutes. They talked for 20, practiced ten and then it was time for Kurt to go home. But the talking was nice. They got to know each other a little, a little more. For now that's it so Kurt gets home in time but now that they started getting to know each other they maybe can continue to do so next time.
"You seem oddly happy" Burt notices when he and Kurt greeted each other. "Yeah it's been a good day" the son answers and because it's his dad he just has to tell him. "There's this man I like but I don't know if he likes me back or if he should but I really like him and today we got to know each other a bit more" he says. "Why shouldn't he like you?" the older Hummel asks and Kurt grimaces "Because it's the substitute teacher I told you about". "Look Kurt. I can't tell you what to do and what not. Just take care okay?" Burt says and the other man nods "Yes dad".
Father and son talk a bit longer, catching up and Kurt telling his dad a bit more about Blaine before the dinner is ready and Kurt has to hang up. It felt good to talk to his dad.
On Wednesday, like they said, Kurt stays longer than he normally would. They practice for about an hour and spend half an hour just talking and getting to know each other. Kurt finds Blaine intriguing and loves it when Blaine tells him something from his private life, not the social media life he shares with his fans. Of course Kurt stalked Blaines Instagram account. How could he not? But his private life, before the fame or now apart from social media, is so normal but Kurt loves every detail Blaine shares. As a child he wanted to be an astronaut. It's like Blaine gives Kurt a bit more of him with each story he tells because he trusts him. Blaine trusts Kurt. And the other way around as Kurt shares parts from his life too. Smaller and less than Blaine but he does and that's something. For Blaine it's the world.
The singer wants to know everything about the young man. Kurt already told him that he lives with two girls when they met in the supermarket that one day. It was so easy to talk to him. But here it feels different. Still easy but more intimate. They're not waiting in the line at a packed store but sit in an empty classroom. Just them and no one else. Two chairs, next to each other but their bodies turned to each other. Almost close enough for their knees to touch. Almost. Blaine is addicted. He doesn't want but need to get to know Kurt. He wants to be close to him. He needs Kurt.
The private lessons continue like that. For a while they practice, even meeting one Friday when Kurt got a day off at work. That one Friday they didn't practice at all. They just talked. They wanted to practice but somehow they didn't got that far. More than once Blaine had to keep himself from visiting the spotlight diner to see Kurt at work, to check out the place where he works. He watches Kurt, Santana and Rachel leave in a hurry on Fridays and last week he wanted to follow them It gets harder to at least try to keep Kurt a bit more distant but Blaine knows that his heart is about to win the battle against his head.
Both men get to know each other. Kurts interest in fashion and that he doesn't like sport much. Blaine likes sport and if he hadn't studied music he actually wanted to become a teacher. How Kurt designed Rachels and Santanas prom dresses and that Blaine had his first fans in glee club already. He isn't a world star and he doesn't need to be. He's very happy where he's at now and just wants to make his music.
A week later, by now three weeks of practicing after school, they know each other pretty well. They still work on Kurts performance and it's getting better but they talk more, enjoy the time together. By now they sit really close and the first time their knees touched it felt like electricity runs through Blaines body and Kurt once again feels the butterflies in his stomach.
They talk until Kurt looks at the time, realizing he should get home since he wanted to go through his acting class stuff again for tomorrow. He says goodbye to the other man and takes his stuff from the table. Where did he put his phone? "Kurt, wait" he hears Blaines voice. When he turns around Blaine stands immediately in front of him. Startled Kurt lets go of his stuff and a stack of paper spreads on the floor.
"Wait, I help" Blaine says and crouches down at the same time as Kurt, causing their foreheads to bump together. "Sorry" both apologize at the same time. While picking up the stuff they look down and don't see that the other smiles just as wide as them. Once everything is picked up they stand up again, now really close. "You forgot your phone on the chair" Blaine breathes, not daring to speak louder. "Thanks" Kurt says, his voice barely a whisper.
He can't think straight. He and Blaine are only inches away from each other, he can feel Blaines breath tingle on his skin and the butterflies go crazy. That's enough for Blaine. His head can't always be right. He needs to let his heart decide for once. He doesn't have any other choice. Not when Kurt is this close to him, his blue eyes locked with Blaines. Screw it.
Blaine leans in the last bit, his lips meet Kurts and a firework explodes inside both men. Blaine kisses Kurt, empty head, only feelings and after the shortest of time Kurt returns the kiss.
