It's late in the afternoon but Blaine arrives at his boyfriends room, closing the door behind him with a sigh "Finally". "You made it. Congratulations" Rachel answers with a smile on what Blaine nods "They took forever". Then he goes to the right side of the bed and takes Kurts hand. He presses a kiss on the back of his hand and his forehead before sitting down. "Nothing changed" he notices sadly and both girls nod "But we hope for the best. he's strong". "The strongest" Blaine agrees.
"How about we stay for a bit longer before giving him some space to rest? You two still need to do some homework I suppose and I need to correct some papers I didn't yesterday. I can give you a ride" Blaine proposes. Honestly he has no idea how he can still be this calm but talking to Marisol helped.
He knows that Kurt needs to rest and even tho he is Blaines priority at this moment he can still make sure that he or the girls don't lose themselves in their worry. They need to stick together now and if Blaine can help by taking the girls home he does it.
"Do you have a lot to do tomorrow?" Santana asks after some silence. "Not really. A class in the morning and yours in the noon why?" Blaine asks back. "After your class we have some extended classes for our finals so we're at school longer. Maybe you can be with him until we can come too?" the Latina explains.
"Of course. I wanted to come straight from work anyway. You just join me as soon as you're free again" the man agrees "I hope he'll be better by tomorrow. I feel like I can't stand seeing him like this but I have to see him you know?". "Same" both girls answer at the same time.
An hour later the three friends say goodbye to Kurt and walk to Blaines car. It's a quiet ride to the loft and even more from there to Blaines apartment. At home Blaine sits down and tries to correct some papers. He only manages to do a few. Not only because he keeps zoning out but also because he's really exhausted.
Even tho the summer comes closer with every day and it's quite warm outside Blaine makes himself a tea. He changes in something to sleep in, boxers and one of Kurts shirts, and sits down on the couch again to drink his tea. In the background the tv plays a random evening talk show but he doesn't really pays attention and instead texts forth and back with Marisol about everything and nothing.
The tea and his conversation with Marisol didn't help Blaine much to sleep better. He almost constantly sees Kurt in front of his closed eyes. His beaten up body and how he looks like he's just sleeping. Resting. Yes he rests but sleeping? He needs to wake up again. Every time Blaine wakes up he looks around, making sure that he's alone. No bullies who want to beat him up. Like they did with him in high school. Like they did with Kurt.
Slowly the man gets up even tho he just wants to stay in bed. First he makes coffee and in the meantime hops under the shower. When he's done his coffee is ready so he sits down to drink his coffee. He isn't hungry so if he wants breakfast he'll just buy something at the coffee shop close to NYADA. After his coffee he gets dressed, takes his bag and leaves the apartment.
On his way to the teachers lounge the teacher runs into Tyler and his friends. They all walk a little slower and the blonde girl next to him carries his bag. "Good morning" Blaine greets the group "Tyler I heard what happened. How are you?". "I'm getting better. Thanks for asking Mr. Anderson" Tyler replies. It's half an act. Of course Blaine didn't only hear what happened but as promised Tyler keeps his mouth shut. But he says the truth about how he feels and he's likes that the teacher asks him how he feels after what happened.
"Did you hear that Kurt Hummel was involved too? If yes do you have any updates on how he is doing? I have no clue where Santana and Rachel are" the student asks, worry swinging in his voice. If anyone knows how Kurt is it's the girls or the teacher. "As far as I know he's still unconscious. His body is resting but he'll make a full recovery" Blaine answers. "That's good to hear" Tyler says "Now we have to get to class before we're late because of me. See you next week in class Mr. Anderson". Blaine waves them all goodbye and continues his way as well.
Blaine gives his best to stay concentrated in class but with knowing that after this class he can go to Kurt again he really has to give everything. Rachel and Santana look exhausted and only pay attention with one ear but Blaine let's it slip. He doesn't feel much better after all. He knows how they feel. He can't even hide it. Not in this class apparently.
"Yo Mr. Anderson. You don't look well. Are you getting sick?" Justin asks but the teacher just waves it off "I'm just busy lately and don't get much sleep but I'm fine". No he's not. He's a wreck. His thoughts are not in the right place. They will as soon as Kurt wakes up. Kurt needs to wake up.
"Now how about you work on the assignments I just gave you and in the meantime I rush to the teachers lounge and get myself another coffee?" it wasn't really a question so the class gets to work and Blaine leaves the room. He uses the time outside of the classroom to take some deep breaths and ground himself again. Only a little bit longer.
As soon as class is over everyone stands up. "Rachel, Santana can I talk to you for a moment please?" the teacher asks before the girls can leave as well. When they reach him he proposes "I'm getting myself another coffee. You two look like you need one too. If you still have some time I buy you one at the coffee shop next to the building. Better than this soup from the hospital or the teachers lounge". "We never say no to caffeine" Santana answers and Rachel could only nod in agreement.
When all three have their coffee they say goodbye and go their separate ways. The girls back into NYADA and Blaine to his car. He gets in and sighs in relieve. By now he has no troubles with teaching, it's as natural as if he never did something else, but now it feels difficult to keep that role and hide the way he feels when he walks through the hallways and teaches classes.
At the hospital Blaine sits down on the chair next to Kurts bed after greeting him as always. He watches the younger mans chest rise and fall with every breath as silence fills the room. The kind of silence that's unbearable. The silence you want to break. So Blaine decides to do exactly that in the best way he can think of to distract himself somehow. He sings. Not too loud, he's in a hospital after all. But quiet and from the heart and loud enough to break the silence.
People say we shouldn't be together
We're too young to know about forever
But I say they don't know what they're talk-talk-talkin' about
'Cause this love is only getting stronger
So I don't wanna wait any longer
I just wanna tell the world that you're mine, boy
Oh
They don't know about the things we do
They don't know about the "I love you's"
But I bet you if they only knew
They would just be jealous of us
They don't know about the up all night
They don't know I've waited all my life
Just to find a love that feels this right
Baby, they don't know about, they don't know about us
One touch and I was a believer
Every kiss, it gets a little sweeter
It's getting better
Keeps getting better all the time, boy
They don't know about the things we do
They don't know about the "I love yous"
But I bet you if they only knew
They would just be jealous of us
They don't know about the up all night
They don't know I've waited all my life
Just to find a love that feels this right
Baby, they don't know about, they don't know about us
They don't know how special you are
They don't know what you've done to my heart
They can say anything they want
'Cause they don't know about us
They don't know what we do best
It's between me and you, our little secret
But I wanna tell 'em
I wanna tell the world that you're mine, boy
They don't know about the things we do
They don't know about the "I love yous"
But I bet you if they only knew
They would just be jealous of us
They don't know about the up all night
They don't know I've waited all my life
Just to find a love that feels this right
Baby, they don't know about, they don't know about us
They don't know about the things we do
They don't know about the "I love yous"
But I bet you if they only knew
They would just be jealous of us
They don't know about the up all night
They don't know I've waited all my life
Just to find a love that feels this right
Baby, they don't know about, they don't know about us
They don't know about us
They don't know about us
Problem is only that the song comes to an end eventually and the silence takes over again. This time Blaine lets it happen. He just holds Kurts hand and stares on his chest, up and down, up and down, as he zones out again.
His bullies come back to his mind and the curly haired man closes his eyes, taking a few deep breaths to fight back the tears. No he won't cry. This is about Kurt. His bash lays in the past. His bullies are gone. They won't hurt him anymore. But other people might. Other people still hurt people like him. People like Kurt. And that thought is the most scary of all.
Blaine gets pulled out of his trance, his inner conflict, when he feels the squeeze of a hand. Not anywhere. Not a nurse squeezing his shoulder to see if he's alright. No it's a hand squeezing his and this hand could only belong to one person.
Kurt.
