Kingdom Hearts: Web of the Dark Heart

Chapter 2: Traverse Town

The trio opened their eyes and found themselves in a old-style town with electricity.

Spider-Man: Where are we?

Mickey: Welcome to Traverse Town. It's a place where travelers and refugees come for supplies or safety.

Wanda: (Holding Sora while putting Kitetsu back into its sheath) Thank you… Who are you, exactly?

Spider-Man was surprised by Wanda's claim.

Spider-Man: Wait, you don't know who Mickey Mouse is?

Wanda shook her head 'No'.

Spider-Man: Haven't you seen any Disney cartoons with him?

Wanda: Oh, you mean that cartoon character for that theme park company. Daddy didn't want me or my brother watch that company's movies when we were little. Something about the Villains' fates not being right for kids.

Spider-Man was about to argue but realized what Wanda was saying. A lot of Disney Villains didn't exactly go to jail. In fact, he was amazed the company was even allowed to show it to kids.

Mickey: I'm Mickey Mouse. (Deciding to play on Sora's age) Say, you wanna come inside my clubhouse?

Spider-Man chuckled at the reference when he say Sora smiling.

Mickey: But seriously, I'm the King of Disney Town.

Spider-Man: (As Mickey led the to an inn) What I don't understand is how are you real, your highness?

Mickey: Your world knows me because Walt Disney himself inadvertently traveled through other worlds. All his movies you know of are based on events he witnessed after stumbling through a portal.

Wanda: That's amazing.

Mickey: Tell me about it. Same thing happened to two other people: Tim Burton and George Lucas.

Spider-Man: NO WAY! Star Wars is real?!

Mickey chuckled at Spider-Man's outburst. He knew the franchise's fandom was vast enough to form an army. Arriving at the inn, Mickey paid for the trio's room at the reception desk.

Mickey: You'll be able to rest here. I'll go get Merlin to explain what's going on.

Upon arriving at their room, Sora yawned in exhaustion.

Wanda: Poor sweetheart. Probably been too much excitement for him. I'll get him to bed.

Spider-Man watched as Wanda went into the next room and tucked Sora in. Meanwhile, he spoke to the iconic mouse.

Spider-Man: So all the movies really happened?

Mickey: On your world, they're well-known movies. But across other worlds, they all happen while operating on different timeframes.

Spider-Man: And the songs?

Mickey: Actually happened.

Spider-Man: This is a lot to process.

Mickey: I bet. I'll go get Merlin and he'll explain what those creatures better than I could. (Leaving) Best you and your wife rest while you can.

Spider-Man: (Blushing under his mask) Uh, she's not my wife.

Mickey: (Blushing in embarrassment) Oh… hehe… My apologies. It's just, ya know: A guy, a girl, a kid… Sorry, my wife sometimes says my mouth gets me in trouble.

Spider-Man: Wait, you married Minnie?!

Mickey sped off before Spider-Man could stop him. Wanda came in after putting Sora to bed.

Wanda: Where's King Mickey?

Spider-Man: He left to get a wizard.

Wanda: Oh.

Two hours passed since Mickey left. Spider-Man checked his web-launchers and fluids while Wanda mostly checked on Sora, who was sleeping soundly.

Wanda: You know… You don't have to wear that mask all the time. You can trust me.

Spider-Man looked at Wanda and decided to take his mask off. Wanda looked at his blue eyes and brown hair. She half expected to see a scar or something to need a full mask over his head. Instead to her, she was looking at the face of Adonis himself.

Wanda: Adonis.

Spider-Man: Huh?

Wanda: (Blushing) Nothing!

Spider-Man: So… You know anything about that sword Mickey used?

Wanda: Yeah, I think so. I remember overhearing Daddy speaking with Dr. Strange about an ancient weapon called the Keyblade.

Spider-Man: What does it do?

Wanda: All I was able to overhear was it was a powerful relic belonging to an ancient order. That's all I heard before they spotted me.

?: But my dear, you got the basics of it explained.

From a cloud of smoke, Merlin from the Sword in the Stone movie appeared before them. Spider-Man quickly put his mask back on. Unfortunately, he overshot his entrance and stumbled to the floor.

Wanda: (As she and Spider-Man caught him) Whoa, we got you. (Helping him to a chair) Here, have a seat.

Merlin: (Taking a seat) Uh, thank you both. You both are very good children. Much like that boy, Arthur.

Wanda: Arthur? Wait a second… You don't mean Arthur of Camelot, do you?

Spider-Man: One Disney was called the Sword in the Stone. This is…

Merlin: That's okay, my boy. I can introduce myself. (Politely bowing to Wanda) Merlin the Magician, at your service.

Wanda: Amazing.

Merlin: Right. Onto business. I understand you have young Sora, right?

Wanda: Uh, yes. I should probably go wake him up.

Merlin: Agreed. I need to see the boy. I'm not due to seen him for another seven years but the King said this is an emergency. Please, fetch the boy.

Wanda left to get Sora as Spider-Man pieced something together.

Spider-Man: Seven years… (Snapping his fingers) Time doesn't matter to you.

Merlin: Sharp lad. Sora will be in good hands.

Spider-Man: I hope so. It won't be easy keeping him safe but we'll try.

Merlin: I know it will, but don't worry. Yen Sid and I have some help for you.

Before Spider-Man could question Merlin, Wanda came in carrying a newly woken Sora. Merlin came up and to examine him. Sora whimpered, worried Merlin was going to hurt him or his new friends.

Wanda: It's okay. He's a wizard. He's here to help.

Merlin: (Gently) Yes, lad. I'm a friend. (Starting a spell to see Sora's strength) Now, let's have a look. (Examining him) I swear, they get younger every time they're chosen. (Seeing the Kuro Kabuto slingshot) A marksman. Unexpected but will be useful. (Looking at Wanda) Perfect. The Keyblade will be in good hands in future. (Walking back to his seat) Now, onto business. (Taking a seat) I take it you want to know how Wolf Spider is alive, Peter?

Sora: Ms. Wanda, who's Peter?

Without a second thought, Spider-Man took off his mask in front of Sora.

Peter: It's my name: Peter Parker. But you gotta keep it a secret, okay Sport?

Sora: Okay, I promise. I'm the best at keeping promises.

Peter: How is Wolf Spider alive?

Merlin: As he no doubt explained, he revived himself through the Web of Reality. But through it, he gained the ability to traverse time and other worlds. The creatures you faced earlier are called Heartless. They are born from the Darkness in a person's heart. But they aren't supposed to appear for another seven years.

Peter: Wolf Spider's handiwork.

Merlin nodded as Wanda decided to ask the smart question.

Wanda: Who is he?

Peter: He's an alternate version of me that's pure evil. I fought him years ago. I didn't kill him; it was his own intentions that destroyed him.

Wanda sighed in relief.

Merlin: Unfortunately, by using the Web of Reality the way he did, it caused cracks in time to appear in five separate worlds. This caused the Heartless to slip through the timestream. However, I can't answer how he gained the ability to control them. Only a handful of people can grant that power.

Peter: Well, there can't be too many suspects.

Merlin: Quite right, lad. One that comes to mind is that fool, Dormammu. Fortunately, you dealt with him and sealed him away years ago.

Wanda eyed Spider-Man in confusion and amazement.

Spider-Man: Long story. So, who does that leave?

Merlin: That's for you both to find out and fix. You three must travel to other worlds, find and seal the cracks, and stop Wolf Spider.

Peter: What's the worst-case scenario if we can't seal these cracks? The total destruction of reality?

Merlin: Fortunately, not by the cracks. Apparently, they're stable enough to not grow to that level.

Wanda: Wait, three? Sora has to go with us. That's dangerous.

Merlin: I'm sorry, but it's safer if he's with you two than anywhere Wolf Spider or any allies he could make get him.

Wanda was about to object when Sora spoke up.

Sora: I'll be brave, Ms. Wanda.

Merlin: There's a good lad. (Starting a spell) Now, onto your fighting abilities. (Casting his spell) This will allow your powers and weapons to now hurt the Heartless and other enemies. (Then summoning a large case out) And for you, Peter.

Peter opened the case and inside was a Keyblade that looked different from Mickey's: Instead of the blade being in the middle, it was on the handle guard, the Key Teeth went from short to long upward, and the token was wind in a cyclone. This was the Wayward Wind Keyblade.

Merlin: (As Peter took it) This Keyblade belongs to a missing Keyblade Master. I enchanted it to allow you to use it. (Peter testing summoning it) A Keyblade will disappear when you don't need it and appear when you do need it.

Peter swung it well.

Peter: Thank you, Merlin. We appreciate all your help.

Merlin: (Getting up) That's what I'm here for. Now, you three rest for a bit. I'll head over to the store to make sure you have money for supplies then make sure your ship will be ready.

Wanda: That sounds like a plan. I think Sora could use a bath, anyway.

Sora laughed as Wanda carried him to the bathroom.
