Kingdom Hearts: Web of the Dark Heart
Chapter 4: Kid Slingshot
Author's Note: I might've goofed on the Ghost's interior structure. I couldn't find a good map structure of the ship's interior at the time. Sorry about that.
After they left Traverse Town, the group started moving around the Ghost.
Doom: Dormitories can hold two people each. I think we should assign rooms.
Sora: (Tugging on Wanda's cape) Ms. Wanda, can I go play a game in the Lounge?
Wanda: (Kneeling to him) Not right now, Sora. Let's get situated and set some safety rules, then you can play.
Sora was a bit upset but understood.
Spider-Man: Okay. Doom, you want to go ahead and pick a room.
Doom: No thanks, sir. I'll sleep in the cockpit.
Spider-Man: Okay, if you're sure.
Sora walked into a room and started unpacking what he had in his satchel. He placed some of the spare ammunition on the ground, a pair of blue-lens polarized sniper sunglasses Wanda bought, a few snacks, and a picture with him and his friends: Riku and Kairi. Riku had Sora caught in a headlock while playfully giving him a noogie while Kairi was laughing. Sora hoped they were okay with his parents. He didn't notice Wanda coming in, dressed in her new civilian clothes.
Wanda: (Holding some stuff) Sora, I just came to give some… (Seeing his sad expression) You okay?
Sora: (Walking up to her) Ms. Wanda… You think my friends are okay?
Wanda: (Sighing) I honestly don't know, sweetie. But once we fix this mess, we'll head back to your home and look for them.
Sora: Okay.
Wanda: (Deciding to be positive) But hey, how about we get started on your suit.
Sora smiled at the idea. Digging into their bag of purchases, Wanda brought out a pair of white sneakers, black jeans, a green shirt with a red leather jacket, a pair of fingerless gloves, and a white bandana. Being careful, Wanda put all the stuff on Sora.
Sora: You sure this can be a superhero costume?
Wanda: (Tying his shoes) I know it's a bit crude… (Seeing Sora confused) It means simple.
Sora: Okay.
Wanda: Lift your head. (As she gently tied the bandana around his neck) But you're young. Once you get older, I'll help you make the best superhero uniform anyone ever seen.
Sora: Riku and Kairi, too?
Wanda: Sure.
Sora put on the sunglasses.
Sora: Everything looks blue with these on.
Wanda: They'll help hide your identity and keep the sun out of eyes when you use your slingshot.
Wanda used her powers to bring out a full body mirror so Sora could look at himself. Sora smiled, feeling he could be strong with it on.
Wanda: Now we need to give you a name. How about "Kid Slingshot"?
Sora hugged Wanda in gratitude. Wanda smiled warmly, feel her getting attached to Sora. Wanda helped set up Sora's room with his stuff and purchases. They even made a little bed for Sora's plushie.
Wanda: I'm gonna set up your night light. Why don't you show Peter your new outfit?
Sora started to walk out of his room. He didn't notice Wanda snapping her fingers and made the letters 'KS' appear on the back of his jacket. Peter, wearing his civilian clothes, was checking out their TV set up in the lounge.
Sora: Hey, Mr. Peter… (Showing him his outfit) Look at me!
Peter: (Setting the remote down) Hey! Looking good, Sport! Reminds me of my first suit. Had to make do with a homemade outfit.
Sora: How do you move your clothes when you're not using it?
Peter: (Showing his uniform under his clothes) I keep a backpack on me to store my civilian clothes. You… (Examining him) We can probably use one to store some of your accessories.
Sora: Okay. (Looking at the TV) What are you looking for?
Peter: Just looking at some of the stuff the Professor set us up with. (Excited) Cool, we got Disney+!
Sora: I just wish I had real superpowers. All I'm good at is using my slingshot, the Kuro Kabuto.
Peter: You don't need powers to be a hero. I know plenty of heroes who fight with their intelligence and skills.
Sora: (Hopeful) Really?
Getting an idea, Peter searched the channel's Search feature and found the movie he was looking for.
Peter: (Putting on Super Buddies) Why don't you watch this movie? It'll prove my point. Plus, it has puppies in it. I'm going to speak with Wanda.
Peter helped Sora to his seat and put the movie on. He found Wanda looking over the ship for places Sora shouldn't go to.
Peter: (Startling her a bit) Making sure Sora doesn't open the air lock?
Wanda: (Panting a bit) Oh, Peter.
Peter: Sorry, didn't mean to startle you.
Wanda: It's fine. Where does this ladder go?
Peter: Topside turret. (Pointing) Both those halls lead to the escape pods.
Wanda: Okay, anywhere else?
Peter: Out back is the cargo bay. Nearby there should be the ladder to the fighter, the Phantom.
Wanda: So five places to inform Sora not to go to without us. Good. Where is he?
Peter: He was a bit sad he didn't have superpowers like us, so I put on a movie for him that should teach him he doesn't need powers to be a hero.
Wanda smiled but was a bit concerned.
Peter: Don't worry. It's Rated G.
Wanda: Oh, good.
Wanda's mind wondered to the thought of needing to raise Sora.
Peter: I have an idea what you're thinking and it's possible we could need to raise Sora.
Wanda was surprised Peter got that right, but more surprised he said "We".
Peter: (Shrugging his shoulders) Call it a hunch. As for the "We" … (Sigh) I like the kid too much not to stick with him.
Wanda: (Smiling) He has a personality that just makes him earn friends easily.
Peter: Maybe he does have a superpower.
Wanda: (Chuckling) You're funny.
Peter: First time hearing that.
The two looked at each other with a smile until Doom walked up. Doom cleared his throat and the duo looked at him.
Doom: Uh, I'm not interrupting anything, am I?
Duo: (Quickly) No!
Doom: Right. Well, CH-33P said the ship's computer had detected the first Timestream Crack and we'll be there in an hour.
Peter: Right. The cracks. Head to the cockpit and plot a course for it.
Doom left as the duo went to Sora, who was enjoying the movie.
Peter: Liking the movie, little buddy?
Sora paused the movie and scooted over so they could sit.
Sora: (As Wanda lifted him on to her lap with her powers) Yeah, it's good.
Wanda: We missed anything?
Sora: I was at the moment they decided to be heroes.
Peter: Oh, so we got here in time before the good parts.
Sora: You missed B-Dawg getting chased by chickens.
Peter: (Realizing he did miss a good part) Okay, most of the good parts.
The trio started the movie and watched it. Wanda thought the puppies were adorable in their hero costumes, Peter smiled at the tender moment they were having, and Sora paid attention to what Peter said about the lesson. By the end of it, Sora got what it was saying.
