Luz was stirred from her sleep by the wonderful smell of breakfast getting made, and not just any break. It was French toast, one of her favorites, and her tail started wagging excitedly at the mouth watering scent. It wagged even more however when she remembered what day it was. It was now Thanksgiving, one of her favorite holidays.

Luz overall was feeling more happy than she had been recently. The trip to the farmer's market turned out to be exactly what she needed as not only did it help take her mind off of the hardships she was going through, but her earning the trust of the goats gave her a much needed morale boost, which was made even more so when she did the same for the emus as well. It wasn't much, but it was a great start, and she was now becoming more confident that she could prove herself to the people of the Boiling Isles. It was just a matter of finding out how, but that could wait for the time being.

A groan from Luz's left snapped her out of her thoughts, and she turned to see her fiancé rolling over to face her. The sound of her tail thumping against the bed had stirred her from her sleep.

"Oh Mi Amor, I'm so sorry." The human witch said. "I didn't mean to wake you up."

Amity shook her head. "It's okay. This is around the time I get up anyway."

She then smiled and gave her a kiss. "Happy Thanksgiving."

Luz smiled back and returned the kiss. ""Happy Thanksgiving to you too."

"Did you sleep well last night?"

The human witch's smile faded. "For the most part. I had trouble sleeping at first. Even though I'm getting better, it's still hard to take my mind off of…you know."

Her fiancé frowned. "Are you still having trouble understanding that it wasn't your fault?"

Luz shook her head. "No, it's not that. I know what happened wasn't my fault, and that does make me feel better, but it still doesn't change what I did. I killed two people, Amity, and that's always going to be the fact at the end of the day."

She took a deep breath to keep herself composed before continuing. "I just gotta remember what Eda told me. It's not a matter of forgetting it and moving on. That's impossible. I have to learn to just live with it and keep going on with my life."

Amity nodded and took her hand. "Exactly. It's really all any of us can do. It won't be easy, but you know I'm here for you. You helped me forgive myself when I started becoming a better person. Now it's my turn to help you."

Luz pursed her lips. "I know. It just…it just doesn't seem fair."

"What do you mean?"

"Since I became a werewolf, you and the others have gone above and beyond to help me, even putting yourselves at risk to do so. I haven't done anything except give people gashes and broken bones. I know it wasn't my fault, but that's not my point. My point is…I just feel so useless."

Amity shook her head and cupped her cheek in her hand. "You're not useless, Batata. You've been working your butt off these past few months training with your curse, and dealing with the challenges and physical pain it brings. You also have been having to face the ridicule of others for what you are, and trying to work on your education in spite of all that. Trust me, Luz, you've done far more than you realise, and you've done it well. A lot of people would have cracked under all that pressure, but you managed to stay strong and face it. Yes, you've been knocked down a couple times. But no matter what, you always got back up."

The human witch's bottom lip began to quiver before she pulled her into a hug. The purple haired witch couldn't help but giggle as she hugged back. She always adored how big of a heart her fiancé had. It's one of the many reasons she fell in love with her.

"I love you too, Wolfie." She said. She then pulled away and looked at her. "But let's not start crying now. We've done more than enough of that already, and this is supposed to be a happy holiday."

She then formed a slightly more stern look. "And because of that, I forbid you from thinking about anything involving what happened at the owl house or any plans for the future for today. You deserve to celebrate Thanksgiving with a smile. And if you do anything otherwise, I'll kick your butt."

This got a giggle out of the human witch. "Yes, honey."

Amity smiled again. "Good girl. Now, let's head downstairs and get some breakfast."

"Yes, let's. That French toast smells so good right now."

Luz's eyes widened and her tail started wagging again as she picked up on a new scent. "Oh titan, is that…bacon!"

She then sprinted out of the bedroom and towards the stairs, the sight had Amity struggling to not laugh out loud before failing miserably.

Oh yeah, she's definitely a canine. She thought before walking out of the room herself. When she made her way downstairs and to the kitchen, she saw that Camila and Eda were indeed making French toast and bacon, with Luz giving them both a good morning hug. Stringbean and Ghost were down as well, enjoying some scraps of food that were given to them.

Camila and Eda both smiled upon seeing Amity.

"Morning, Boots! Happy Thanksgiving!" The latter said.

The purple haired witch smiled before walking over and giving both women a hug as well. "Good morning, guys! Happy Thanksgiving! Where's Vee?"

"Still sleeping." Camila said. "I swear, she can sleep for like half a day."

Amity chuckled. It was true. Between the basilisk and her fiancé, she couldn't decide who was the heavier sleeper. She then hummed with delight as the scent of breakfast overtook her nostrils.

"Titan, that smells so good. No wonder Luz ran out of our room in a hurry."

"Oh yes," Camila said. "She's always loved bacon, even before she became a lobizon. It's always been the perfect way to get her out of bed in the morning."

Luz nodded as she took a seat at the table. "And I very much thank you for that, mom. You always make the best bacon."

"Amen to that." The owl lady said. "It's some of the best breakfast food I've ever tasted. Even my famous griffon egg omelet doesn't compare to it."

Camila shook her head. "Don't sell yourself short, Eda. Your omelet is excellent. You need to show me how to make it sometime."

"Yeah, Eda." Amity said. "Leave being overly modest to Luz."

"Hey!" The human witch shouted.

Everyone laughed and the purple haired witch walked over to kiss her fiancé on the cheek. "I'm just teasing, Wolfie."

Luz grumbled for a moment before turning back to her mother. So when is everyone coming over?"

"They should be arriving at around three." Camila replied. "Though Harvey, Gilbert, and Willow are coming over a little earlier to help prepare the food."

"Yeah, good idea. This is by far the most amount of food we've had to prepare for Thanksgiving."

"Well, this is by far the most amount of people we've had over. Honestly though, I'm surprised it took this long for all of us to get together on Thanksgiving."

Eda shrugged. "Well, the Demon Realm doesn't celebrate the same holidays as here, so naturally, everyone's schedules will be different. Though I think for this year, we were all more than happy to fit it in. Right, Luz?

The human witch smiled. "Yeah, and I'm incredibly thankful for that. Heh, I guess this is the perfect day to be saying that."

Camila nodded and smiled back. "You got it, Mija. And just like how you're thankful to have us, we're all thankful to have you. We can save all that for dinner though. Right now, let's eat some breakfast, and then we can watch the parade afterwards."

"Yeah! I wonder what floats they will be using this year?"

"Hopefully another Azura one." Amity said. "They owe the franchise that after what happened last time."

Camila and Eda snickered at the memory. The parade had used an Azura balloon during last year's festivities, and Luz and Amity were really excited to see their favorite fictional character appear in such a big event. This however faded quickly when the balloon collided with a street lamp, punching a hole in it and causing it to deflate. The couple pouted like children for hours afterwards, and only spoke when guests started arriving.

"Oh yeah." The owl lady said. "That was a complete disaster. Maybe this year they'll take down all the street lamps just to be safe."

"Yes, they should," Amity huffed. "And they should make an even more stunning balloon for Azura."

"I second that." Luz added.

Camila chuckled and shook her head. "I would say you two are childish, but who am I kidding? I'm just as guilty of it."

Her daughter gave a surprised, but happy look. "Mom, are you talking about…?"

"Yes. I am talking about my space comics."

Eda's eyes widened a bit. "Wait, you make space comics? Oh, this I have to hear. Tell me everything, girl."

Camila nodded. "I will once we've all sat down for breakfast. Mija, why don't you go wake up your sister? I don't want her to miss any of the food."

Her daughter nodded and headed upstairs. A few moments later, Vee's voice could be heard. "Yes! It's about time!"

Camila then rubbed her forehead. "Well, no turning back now."

Eda laughed and patted her back. "Oh lighten up, mama bear. You're part of the weirdo club, remember? That means all forms of nerds and geeks are welcome. It's nothing to be embarrassed about."

Amity nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I honestly think it's better to be a nerd. Being normal is just boring."

"Ain't that the truth!" Vee said as she reentered the kitchen with Luz. "Life is just more fun that way!"

"You got that right, sis!" Luz added. She then walked over to her mother. "And look, I know this brings back a lot of bad memories for you, but you don't have to worry about that here. Remember, it's okay for you to be yourself."

"Bad memories?" Eda asked. "What are you talking about?"

Camila sighed as she began to put food on the plates. "I haven't told anyone aside from Luz and Vee this, but I didn't have a good childhood growing up. I've always loved science fiction, especially the Cosmic Frontier series, and used to collect all kinds of merchandise for it. My room was more like a shrine for that series than anything else."

Her face then became a little more sad. "Unfortunately, I was bullied relentlessly for it, and it made me absolutely miserable. So much so that I just dropped science fiction and got rid of all my stuff so I could fit in better."

The owl lady frowned. "Damn, that reminds me of Luz when I first met her."

Camila nodded. "You got that right, and that's exactly why I sent Luz to that summer camp in the first place. I didn't want her to suffer the same way that I did. I wanted her to be able to make friends and lead a normal life. It wasn't until later however that I realized how much of a mistake that was. I shouldn't have tried to change my daughter into something she wasn't. I should have helped her be more comfortable with herself, because people succeed by being who they are, not who they're supposed to be."

Luz smiled widely and walked over to her mother to put her arm around her. "Yeah, you messed up, but I'm not mad at you at all for it. You were just trying to help me. And you know what? You more than made up for it in the end. You supported me at a time when I needed it most. You even went to the Demon Realm with me and helped me defeat Belos. That was so unbelievably awesome of you to do."

Camila nodded and whipped some tears away. "And in turn, you showed me that it's okay to be yourself, and encouraged me to continue my fan comic of Cosmic Frontier. I'm still a little embarrassed to talk about it obviously, but at least I'm getting better."

"That's the spirit, Mom!" Vee said. "Just go all out with your nerdiness and don't worry about what others think. Just look at Luz! Despite all the ridicule she's gotten for being a lycanthrope, she's still standing strong!"

"Darn straight!" The human witch replied as she gave her a high five. "Although let's not actually talk about my curse today. Amity made it clear I'm not allowed to do so."

The purple haired witch giggled. "I'm just looking out for you, Wolfie."

Luz smiled dreamily. "Yeah, I know. Anyway, can we hear about your comic now, Mom?"

Camila smiled back and nodded. "Tell you what, Mija, let's wait for everyone to arrive, and I'll tell you and them all about it."

"Deal."
