After breakfast, everyone went straight to the living room to watch the Thanksgiving parade on TV. Sadly for Luz and Amity, there was no Azura balloon this year, and they had a few choice words in mind for the coordinators at Macy regarding it when they gave them a call. Eda couldn't help but record the whole thing on her scroll as she tried her best not to laugh. Even Camila had a hard time keeping a straight face, though she drew the line when the owl lady suggested egging and TPing the company building. After that initial drama, the rest of the morning went without a hitch.
Harvey, Gilbert, and Willow arrived not long after the parade ended, and thank goodness for that too, because there was a ton of food to prepare. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes (Luz and Amity personally took charge of that part), and cornbread. The kitchen became quite the busy and hectic scene as everyone played their part in preparing Thanksgiving dinner. But their hard teamwork paid off in the end, and they managed to get everything either ready or warming in the oven by the time the guests started arriving.
When Camila suggested inviting everyone over this year, she really meant it as it really was the whole family. Raine, King, Hooty, Lilith, Masha, The Blights, Hunter, Gus and his dad, and even Darius. Apparently Alador had invited him over, which nobody minded, but also raised an amused eyebrow from Edric and Emira, a look that Amity was all too familiar with.
Oh boy. Best of luck to you, Dad. The purple haired witch thought.
After the family arrived, most of them sat down in the living room to watch the football game, and Luz couldn't help but join them. There was just something about sports that brought people closer together. It certainly did for her and Amity, that's for sure.
"I don't quite understand this sport." Lilith said. "Grudgeby was physical, yes, but there was a point to it all. These people just crash into each other like a bunch of savages."
"It's defense, Aunt Lilith." Luz said. "They have to make sure the other team doesn't get the ball to the other side of the field."
"I suppose that makes sense, but why such a brutish approach? It's not how I would make a sport."
King shrugged. "Who knows, but I'm sure having fun watching it! Oh yeah! Get that guy!"
Emira gave him a look. "You're watching this just for the violence, aren't you?"
"No, I'm interested in the sport, but the violence is definitely the best part!"
Perry Porter sighed. "Eda's influence sure can be a double edged sword."
Darius raised an eyebrow. "Took you this long to figure that out? I thought the incident at the Christmas party last year made that clear."
"I resent that!" The owl lady shouted from the kitchen, causing some to snicker, but others to shudder.
"Darius, please don't mention that." Masha said. "I can't even erase that from my memory because people like you will just remind me of it. So please do us a favor and don't bring it up."
The former coven leader held up his hands. "Alright, alright, I'm sorry. I was just trying to have fun. I didn't mean to make anyone uncomfortable."
"Eh, it's fine." Gus said. "Maybe in a few more years, we'll all be laughing at it instead of cringing."
"Absolutely." Willow said. "Remember what happened that one time we went to the coven festival when we were kids?"
"Haha! I sure do!" Perry said. "Gus was so embarrassed, he wouldn't leave his room for the entire day afterward!"
"Oh ho! That's nothing!" Harvey shouted from the kitchen. "Willow tried to wear a bag over her face when she went back to school, but we wouldn't let her."
Willow sighed. "Yeah, not one of my proudest moments."
Luz chuckled and patted her friend on the back. "It's alright, bestie. We all have one or two moments like that in our lives. Did you know I once got my head stuck in the mouth of the lion statue at the local zoo? My Mom had to call the fire department to cut me out."
Hunter burst out laughing. "Are you serious? Oh man, I would have loved to see that!"
Camila laughed as well from the kitchen. "I have pictures of it if you want to see it!"
The human witch's face paled. "Mom, you wouldn't…"
Alador now laughed. "If it makes you feel any better, Luz, I can show you this picture of Amity playing in the mud when she was four, and ruining a fancy dress I might add."
Amity suddenly came sprinting out of the kitchen towards her father to snatch his scroll, but Hooty caught her and held her back.
"Dad, no! I beg you!" She shouted.
"Oh no!" Hooty said. "If your fiancé is going to suffer, then you will suffer with her! Hoot!"
"Let me go, you sack of feathers!"
Edric snickered. "Come on, Mittens, it's not that bad. Besides, Hooty's right. You wouldn't want your fiancé to suffer alone, would you?"
"Edric…!"
Luz giggled and walked up to her, giving her a kiss on the cheek. "It's okay, Mi Amor. I'm embarrassed too, but it's not the end of the world. Tell you what, I'll make it up to you. How about after everyone leaves we…"
She then whispered something into Amity's ear, causing the purple haired witch to go full tomato.
"Oh my." Lilith giggled.
Amity sighed. "Okay fine, but only because I love you so much."
"Oh, I'm gonna need to hear about this tomorrow morning." Emira said.
"No you don't." Raine said. "Luz and Amity's private life is off limits. I made a promise to them that I would help keep it that way."
"Same here." Eda said. "Although you gotta admit, it makes you a little curious as to what they get up to."
Surprisingly, her spouse's face didn't falter. Instead, they just smiled. "Not really. You give me a pretty good idea if I do say so myself."
The owl lady's face turned red hot as everyone in the room burst out laughing. She buried her face in her hand. "Crap. I walked right into that one."
….
The family continued to tell embarrassing stories about each other for the next ten minutes or so, and it was quite the awkward yet hilarious time for them. Everyone had at least one moment where they went red in the face, but no one minded it too much. Nothing being said was out of spite after all. It was all just friendly teasing, and it turned out to be a good way to pass the time until dinner was ready. Once it was, all eyes widened in amazement at the sight in front of them.
Camila, Eda, and the Parks had outdone themselves with the food, and it looked and smelled absolutely delicious, especially to Luz. Her super senses were making her brain short circuit, and Amity had to close her mouth to prevent her from drooling. Pretty soon, everyone had filled their plates and taken their seats at the table, where the friendly conversations continued.
"This food is so good!" Emira said. "I wish the demon realm had stuff like this! You have to teach me how to make it!"
Camila chuckled. "I'm glad you like it, and of course I will teach you."
"Please teach me too." Perry said. "I certainly wouldn't mind having this again in the near future."
Luz smiled. "If you think this is good, just wait till you have dessert. My mom makes the best apple pie you will ever taste."
Eda raised an amused eyebrow. "Apple pie, huh? Does the recipe happen to include apple blood?"
"No, but there are desserts that involve alcohol like rum cake. That's more for Christmas though, so let's save it for then."
Lilith sighed. "Wonderful. Another reason for my sister to get drunk during the holidays."
The human witch giggled. "Don't worry, Aunt Lilith. The alcohol evaporates when you bake it, so all that's left behind is the taste."
"Oh, thank goodness. The last thing I want is a repeat of last year's Christmas party."
Eda groaned as everyone snickered. "You guys will never let me hear the end of that, will you?"
"Probably not!" Hooty said. "But hey, as you know now, we all have had embarrassing moments! Hoot-Hoot!"
The owl lady then gave a sly grin. "Like you getting manhandled by Luz?"
The house demon's smile instantly faded, and he started grumbling to himself while everyone snickered again.
Amity patted his head. "It's okay, Hooty. You did your best, and in the end it paid off. We were able to get Luz to calm down, right?"
"You bet we did!" Masha said. "It always feels great to see all your hard work pay off!"
Hooty's smile returned, and he nodded. "It sure is, even more so when it benefits the people you care about!"
"You got that right." Gilbert said. "It makes all the struggles worth it, and moments like these are proof of that."
"Yeah, it really is." The human witch said with a smile. "And it reminds you that you're stronger than you realize. It's just a matter of believing in yourself. Once you do, you can do anything."
Camila beamed. "Now that's the Luz I know, always pushing forward and getting back on her feet no matter what."
"And looking super awesome while doing it!" King added. "Seriously, you kicking Belos' butt in your titan form was single handedly the coolest thing I've ever seen!"
Luz smiled wider and nodded. "And we have your dad to thank for that. Heck, we owe pretty much everything to him. He not only gave me the ability to defeat Belos, but he also gave me a second chance at life."
Now Amity smiled and took her hand. "Indeed. I thank him every single day for what he did, because he made those days possible."
She then turned her fiancé's head to face her. "But remember, the titan may have given you those powers, but you were the one who used them and finished the job. The titan did not save the Boiling Isles that day. You did."
"Darn straight!" Vee said. "You are the Boiling Isles' own superhero, Sis!"
Luz's lip began to quiver again, and she choked. "Amity, I thought we agreed on no more crying."
Hunter shook his head. "Nah, you deserve to shed some happy tears after all the hell you've been through. I know it's not over yet, but you know by this point that you'll get through it."
The human witch took a breath to recompose herself before nodding. "Yeah. I don't know what the near future has in store. But I do know that, whatever it is, I will beat it, because I have the most loving and caring family in the world."
She then gave Amity a kiss. "And I have the most beautiful and awesome fiancé anyone could ask for."
The purple haired witch blushed while everyone awed at the sight. They really were the perfect couple.
Raine then took their glass and stood up. "Well now, I say this calls for a toast!"
Everyone nodded in agreement and held up their own glasses before they continued. "To us, and to the future!"
"Cheers!" Everyone shouted.
Once they all took a sip of their drinks, Luz turned to her mother with an eager look. "Now mom, I believe you made a promise to me."
Camila sighed, but also gave a smile. "Indeed I did, Mija. Everyone, I'd like to talk to you all about a certain comic book series I'm making for the Demon Realm, a series based off of Cosmic Frontier."
Hunter and Gus nearly spat their drinks out.
"You are?!" The former shouted.
"Tell. Us. Everything!" The latter added.
Camila chuckled. That reaction just removed any nervousness she had, and suddenly she found herself wondering why she was so worried about being embarrassed.
