Chapter Four: Flying Lesson
Disclaimer: I still don't own this, and thank you everyone who read this and left comments or following or adding to your favorites! I came across this quote online: "Greatness is found in the relentless pursuit of ambition." — Unknown
The motivation of Slytherins is somewhat easy to follow, though at times, not so much. For example, in 1991, Harry Potter was sorted into the Slytherin house. Some Slytherins knew exactly where they stood in relation to Harry Potter, wanting to beat him ever since the Dark Lord died. Others, not so much.
Here's a look at how certain Slytherins viewed the second week at Hogwarts:
Gemma Farley had a headache when it came to dealing with her classmates. She was already very ambitious and wanted to make her mark on the world, possibly even beat up Graham since he had done nothing so far. Apparently, Professor Snape wanted everyone in Slytherin to stay united, but this became difficult due to idiotic morons who wanted the "Dark Lord" back. It didn't help that she herself was a half-blood but was very good at hiding that fact from everyone. She needed to go back and check on her intel to ensure that Harry wasn't being harassed so far.
Adrian Pucey is an example of a Pureblood family. He believes in not cheating in Quidditch, which is important to him. His family always said, "Greatness is found in the relentless pursuit of ambition." He's ambitious enough and wants to achieve the most when it comes to playing Quidditch. He doesn't like when the Slytherin team cheats in the games. When it comes to Harry Potter, he understands why Gemma is doing what she's doing. He is often seen supporting her because she asks, and she has a point about how Slytherin needs to present a united front.
Daphne Greengrass was always taught one thing: to be neutral. After all, that was her family's stance in life. This was her philosophy: be neutral. But watching Harry Potter irritates her. She wants to shake him because she notices how Ronald Weasley is a jealous git or how Draco Malfoy walks around acting like he owns Hogwarts when he doesn't. She can't remain neutral any longer. She has to act soon, but she's going to wait to see how her classmates respond to Harry Potter. Still, she's upset about how little Harry knows about his own power.
Tracey Davis is a half-blood, just like Harry Potter. She's also best friends with what others call the "Ice Princess" of Slytherin, Daphne Greengrass. Tracey has tried talking to Daphne about her thoughts on Harry and how he doesn't seem to know how to act. She wants to help, but Daphne told her to remain neutral. Tracey does that, but she tries to smile at Harry so he'll understand that there are Slytherins who want to help him.
Blaise Zabini is a vain person. He knows that about himself, and while he prefers to associate with other Purebloods who are privileged and wealthy, he can't help but want to become friends with Harry Potter. After all, power is everything. Also, Draco Malfoy made a rude comment about his looks. Blaise knows he looks good, and anyone who tells him otherwise is wrong.
Theodore Nott doesn't like being surrounded by a lot of people. Sure, he knows most of his classmates, and some are more arrogant (like Draco) or vain (like Blaise). He knows his father was a Death Eater, and he doesn't want to be like his father. He prefers to be alone, but it doesn't help that Daphne and Blaise initiate communication with him. He likes Harry in the sense that Harry leaves him alone. Theodore doesn't know if Harry knows who he is, but he wants to remain in the shadows, avoiding attention and ensuring that he will never join the Dark Lord. He won't become his father.
Draco Malfoy knows he's the best person for Harry Potter to make connections with. He just doesn't know how to approach him. After all, Harry humiliated him, so Draco feels he has to humiliate him back because he doesn't appreciate when Harry doesn't befriend him. Draco needs to rethink his approach, which is why the flying class was a great opportunity to show Harry that even though he wasn't being kind, he didn't want to lose the chance to become Harry's friend and push him to become great. After all, the Malfoys always follow greatness.
