Versatility

[The scene opens on a shot of a beautiful meadow of flowers, a couple of birds pass overhead. Transition to a shot of the river as the sounds of nature can be heard in the background to the light lapping of water against the shore, along with the soothing gentle current]

[A light and airy tune plays as we transition to a shot of Emily puffing under a bridge with her coaches as the Heeler family is standing over a bridge, waving as she passes by. The Stirling Single gives a reply with her whistle before we cut to an alternative shot of Gordon passing by with the Express]

[In the summertime, the Island of Anima is truly a sight to behold, between the fresh green fields, the beautiful beaches, and the festivals abound, it's no wonder why summer is a popular time of the year]

[Transition to a shot of Big the Cat fishing by the lake while Danny Fenton and the American Dragon are relaxing under one of the tall oak trees in the background. Cut to a shot of Lady, Jenna, and Krystal in a canoe as they row across the lake, passing by, and subsequently giving a small splash to Foghorn Leghorn on a kayak]

[Transition to the Winx Club flying over the Evergreen Forest as we focus on Flora in particular, smiling down at the tall green trees]

[Transition to Cedar Harbor, previously Falmouth to any new viewers of the older chapters, as Top Hat and OJ pass by one another with their respective barge loads while in the background, Big Mac and Warrior are assisting a tramper into port]

[Transition to the city proper as people are waiting in line to collect ice cream from a shop; Jessie, James, Meowth, Sylvester, Wile, Yogi, Boo-Boo, Cindy, Rarity, Applejack, Spongebob, Patrick, Sandy, Shaggy, Scooby, Scrappy, even the Rugrats are lined up. Tom and Jerry pass by with their respective cones of chocolate and strawberry ice cream]

[However, with the seasons changing, everyone knew that autumn would soon be upon them. Already, shops are starting to get out the Halloween decorations for October, and supplies for schools are in full demand]

[On the contrary, at the end of August, there is a special party to cap off the summer before transitioning into September. This is shown via flashback at Evergreen Station as people are shown gathering to watch the fireworks display; Dexter, Timmy, Cosmo, Wanda, Huck, Snag, Yakko, Wakko, Dot, Cinderella, Aurora, Scar, Grimhilde, Fievel, Tiger, Usagi, Minako, Luna, Artemis, Mordecai, Rigby, Lola, Tina, Lucario, Mewtwo, Lippy, Hardy Amy, and Rouge. Some of the engines are watching from the platforms; Thomas, Percy, Donald, Douglas, Diesel, and Mavis]

[Transition back to present day, or night as Lillie Lightship is shown keeping watch in the estuary. The sea is peaceful with the only sound being the light tapping of water against her hull]

Lillie: [sighs] It's a quiet night, just the way I like it…

[Lillie looks up to the lighthouse by Mahogany, the light from the top of the tower usually shines bright and can be seen from afar, but recently, the light has noticeably dimmed down, it's still functional, but something appears to be wrong. In this case, Lillie's light works as a backup to guide ships safely to the port]

[However, as Lillie drops off to sleep, we pan over to the lighthouse as the bulb suddenly shatters from within, sending shards of glass all around the place. Everyone is none the wiser]

[Transition to the next morning as the lighthouse keeper goes up to inspect the tower. When he gets to the top, much to his shock, he finds the burst bulb and the shards all over the floor]

Kipper: Oh! Oh dear…this won't do at all…

[Cut to Lillie as Hercules is shown approaching her with a barge of fresh fuel. He notices the concerned expression on the lightship's face]

Hercules: Ahoy, Lillie, ma' dear. What's got you looking so down?

Lillie: The lighthouse's bulb has gone out, and we're in need of a replacement.

Hercules: I see, this is certainly a matter of importance. I'll pass the word down back at the Star Dock.

Lillie: Oh, thank you, Hercules, you're a gem.

Hercules: Hmmhmm, as I've been told before.

[Transition to the harbor as Hercules returns, just in time to see the other Star Tugs about to leave for work. He sounds a greeting on his hooter]

Hercules: Morning, ma' dears, I need to relay a message!

Ten Cents: Ah? What is it, Hercules?

Hercules: The lighthouse at Mahagony is in need of a new bulb, I was wondering if any of us were available for delivery.

Sunshine: Aye, sorry, Hercules, me and Ten Cents are workin' upriver at the logging camps today.

Ten Cents: You'd never think they'd need so many logs shifted, but here we are.

Hercules: Well, at least you two are keeping busy. What about you, Top Hat?

Top Hat: Car floats for me, no question about that. Speaking of which, my presence is required by the railyard soooooo, toodle-loo.

[Top Hat makes quick work moving out of the dock and out to the canal]

Hercules: Hmmmmm…Big Mac? Warrior?

Big Mac: No can do, Hercules. I'm shiftin' supplies up at the steelworks, they've got a big order in today.

Warrior: 'Fraid it's rubbish for me with Lord Stinker. 'Course, I don't mind his company all the same, hehe.

[Hercules sighs as the two harbor tugs make their departure from the dock]

Hercules: I know it's pointless to ask, but…OJ? Grampus?

O.J.: Believe me, I'd like to help, Hercules, but I've got to help with the coal deliveries today.

Grampus: I'd gladly take it, but I'm in need of inspection today.

Ten Cents: Captain Star? I don't suppose Hercules could take the bulb himself.

Captain Star: I'm afraid there's a navy ship coming into port, Hercules, I need you to tow it in.

Hercules: Ah, as you wish, Captain. But what about the lighthouse?

Captain Star: Not to worry about that, I'll inform the railway to see if they can deliver it.

Hercules: Right, I'll be on my way, see you lot later.

[Hercules gives two blasts of his hooter and backs out of the dock. Ten Cents grins at Sunshine as the switchers and OJ leave for work as well, while Grampus, the mini-submarine, heads off to Lucky's Yard for his maintenance]

Ten Cents: You'd think takin' a light bulb would be easy work.

Sunshine: Well, suppose it is the summer season, lots a' work to be done in general.

Ten Cents: Hehe, too right…

Sunshine: Of course, anythin' could happen on a simple job.

Ten Cents: How do you mean?

Sunshine: [smirks] Remember the upriver incident?

Ten Cents: Ooooooh, that one, hahaha, how could I forget?

[Transition from the harbor to Evergreen Station as Duck passes by the platform with a train of flour. The Fat Controller is in his office to see if anyone can be squeezed into the timetable after getting word from Captain Star]

TFC: [voiceover] The Mainline…no…the Amber Branch…no…the Mahagony Branch…no…the Maple Branch…oh, no no…

[Ripple effect to a shot of every time a selection is shown shot down; Henry with a goods train and James with a suburban passenger train passing each other…Thomas with Annie and Clarabel passing Toby with Henrietta…Donald and Douglas passing each other with ballast trains…Edward passing by the station with a passenger train while Bill and Ben pass by with china clay trucks]

TFC: Ooooh, dear, all my engines are too busy with their own jobs. I'll have to phone the yards.

[Sir Topham grabs the phone on his desk and dials the number. We transition to the yards as Huckleberry Hound, Snagglepuss, Jinks, and Hokey are working, carrying supplies to and from different kinds of rolling stock. Huck comes up to the group with important news]

Huck: Well, fellers, looks like I'm takin' a little ole trip down to the beach.

Snag: Are you now? Pray tell, what's the occasion, the reason, the circumstances, even?

Huck: That lighthouse at Mahagony needs replacin', and since everyone else is busy, I'm ta' make a special delivery.

Jinks: Well, just my luck, we're stuck here while you catch a nice sea breeze.

Huck: Ah, come now, I won't be too long, just a simple trip and back here.

Hokey: Don't take too long, ya' hear? We don't want you to miss the party tonight.

Jinks: Unless you want us to pick you off another bench, hehe.

Huck: Shucks, ya'll, I'll be back with plenty a' time ta' spare before the party.

Snag: I'll hold you to it, hun. Just be back in good time.

Huck: Don't you worry yer pretty lil' head about that.

[Huck winks as Snag poshly puts a paw to his face]

Snag: Well, you're not wrong about the pretty part.

[Jink and Hokey just look at each other knowingly]

[The scene cuts to Huck putting a box containing the bulb into the back of his car before slowly pulling out and then driving forward, out to the open, and on his way to Mahagony]

[A soothing tune plays over Huck's journey as he makes his way down the road, passing by crosswalks and intersections. Several people can be seen in the countryside along the way, Sonic and Tails are shown skipping rocks over a pond, Knuckles and Shadow are meditating in the open field, Tramp, Buster, and Scamp are relaxing on the grass, the Sailor Guardians are having a picnic by the lake]

[Transition to an aerial shot of Huck driving as he passes by Brisby going in the opposite direction before passing by the Can-Do crew working on a set of huts to the right]

[Transition to Huck passing over a bridge that goes over the river before cutting to Cruella speeding down the road in her own car, coming in the opposite direction before we cut to Trevor chuffing along the road with a hay cart in tow]

[Huck comes across the traction engine and slows down, but as he tries to pass by, Cruella suddenly comes into view ahead of him]

Huck: Look out!

Cruella: What the?!

[Huck swerves past Trevor, just in time before Cruella rattles through, her car brakes squealing as she comes to a crooked stop, cutting back to Huck as he tries to regain control of the vehicle, the box shaking in the backseat, until the car comes to a stop by the side of the road]

Cruella: Watch where you're going, you maniac!

Huck: Sorry about that!

Cruella: [narrows eyes and scoffs] Whatever…

[Cruella starts up again with the car catching smoke and tire marks on the road. Trevor idly chuffs by as Huck sighs, looking back to the box]

Huck: I hope that wasn't too sudden…

[Huck picks up the box, opens it, and, much to his dismay, the bulb has shattered]

Huck: Well, ain't that just great…? Guess I'd better head back to the yards…

[Transition to Huck driving past the Sweet Shop as Lyra, Bon Bon, Vinyl, and Octavia are standing by with various treats, the coonhound feels rather foolish as he drives along]

[Transition back to the yards as Snag, Jinks, and Hokey are chatting amongst themselves]

Hokey: Huh, and here I thought Huck was the careful one among us.

Jinks: I mean, to be fair, we're not exactly known for being flexible.

Snag: Well, unless you're talking about a bonafide mountain lion, such as myself, of course.

[Huck comes back with another box, looking slightly annoyed by the circumstances]

Huck: That Cruella needs ta' stay off the road to save her life. Anyway, it's a good thing these warehouses carry spares around. I'll be off again.

Snag: On that note, could one of you assist me with these decorations?

[Snagglepuss hauls a box of flags, streamers, and balloons into one of the vans while Jinks and Hokey shrug before resuming their work]

[Transition back to the open road as Huck passes over a level crossing before we cut to them passing by the pond once more. Although he was in better spirits, this wasn't to be his lucky day]

[A little further down the road, a leaky oil tanker has spilled a black puddle across the path, but due to there being no warning signs or flags, Huck has no idea he's headed for trouble]

[Cut back to the blue canine as he hums to himself]

Huck: Oh ma' darlin', oh ma' darlin', oh ma' daaarlin' Clementine.

You are lost and gone forever

Oh ma' darlin' ClementIIIIINYEYEYEEEE!

[The wheels of Huck's car slip on the oil and the hound tries to apply his brakes, but only ends up skidding across the road, right off onto the grass and into a ditch]

Huck: OOF! Ow…that weren't pleasant…

[Huck looks back at the box having fallen to the floor and sighs. Sure enough, as he picks it up, the bulb has shattered once more]

Huck: It's just not ma' day, is it…?

[Luckily, Huck wasn't going too fast so the vehicle hasn't sustained much damage as he slowly reverses out of the ditch. He then turns around to head back to the shipping yards]

[Transition to Huck passing by Bertie going in the opposite direction]

[Transition to the southern coonhound coming to a stop at the level crossing as Percy passes by with a passenger train, while Oliver comes in the opposite direction with Toad at the back of his goods train]

Huck: Sometimes I wonder if we could all be given the gift of hindsight, then things like this wouldn't happen unexpectedly…

[The crossing gates open and Huck continues on his way. Transition to the shipping yards as Snag, Jinks, and Hokey are listening to the story with wide eyes…before Hokey tries hard not to snicker]

Hokey: B-B-Broken? Again? I see…

[Huck scowls as the brown lupine tries to clasp his muzzle shut, and even Jinks can't resist holding back laughter]

Jinks: Hey…how many Hucks does it take to change a light bulb…SNRK…three apparently.

[Snag chuckles as well, but then sees Huck roll his eyes and tries to settle down]

Snag: AHEM, don't get so down, Huck, I mean, it's just one of those days, an unfortunate occurrence, a pandemonium, even.

Huck: [sighs] Even so, I'd rather be helping you all than having to go all the way back again…but, I suppose there's no cause for it. Duty calls, after all.

[Despite his reservations, Huck carries another bulb in the box to his car. The others watch on, now feeling a little sorry for him, before they go back to work loading the fireworks]

[Transition to Huck back on the road before having to come to a stop again as the oil spill from earlier has caused a traffic jam…the hound's eye twitches before he buries his muzzle in the steering wheel, causing the horn to sound off. By this point, it's gotten late in the afternoon, and as a precaution, the box has been strapped to a seatbelt]

[Transition to the town of Mahagony coming into view as Huck's vehicle passes by the camera]

Huck: Yes! We're almost there!

[However, in preparation for the party, the streets are busy with their own problems, cars are lined up, people are walking to and fro along the street, and in particular, Granny Webster is slowly making her way across the crosswalk]

[Huck stops behind Rocko before an annoyed Carface stops behind the coonhound, blowing his cigar smoke out the window. The bulldog mix angrily pounds on the horn]

Carface: C'mon, lady! People have places ta' be!

[Huck sighs as the horn continues to blare behind him. He's not the only one as Peg Leg Pete pulls up behind Carface and starts honking his own horn]

Pete: Hurry up! I'm not gettin' stuck here behind you yahoos!

Carface: Hey, who are you callin' yahoo, fatty?

Pete: YOU, ya' ugly mug!

[Huck groans and puts a paw to his forehead]

Huck: This cannot be happenin'...

[At last, the old woman has reached the other side and the cars can proceed forward. Rocko goes first and Huck is about to set off at a decent speed when Carface and Pete suddenly shoot past in front of him, causing the hound to slam on his brakes, and the box ejects from its safety belt before hitting the driver's seat and falling to the floor once more]

[Huck's paws tightly grip the steering wheel as his right eye twitches violently]

Huck: …Are you freakin' KIDDING ME?!

[The hound repeatedly smacks his head against the steering wheel as the horn censors his curses. Pan over to Granny Webster as she covers her mouth in surprise]

Granny: Good heavens, such colorful language…

[Cut back to Huck as his blue cheeks are now cherry red from anger and parts of his fur are sticking out…before he drives on and finds a spot to turn around, now donning a more moping expression]

Huck: Awwwwwwwwww, shucks. This has been a purely rotten day…

[A sad saxophone tune plays as the screen transitions to Huck entering the yards once more, but this time, it's quiet and empty. The hound looks at the clock reading fifteen past five]

Huck: They musta' gone home early…makes sense given tonight…hoooooooooo, let's get this over with.

[Reluctantly, Huck goes over to the warehouse to pick up yet another bulb for the lighthouse before coming back out to his car]

Huck: [sighs] I just don't understand it, how could a simple job turn into this? Perhaps Snag was right…

[Much to Huckleberry's surprise, in comes Snagglepuss, Jinks, and Hokey, having stuck around for a little while longer as they see Huck with a downcast look on his face. The hound is surprised to see them]

Huck: Huh? What's goin' on? Shouldn't you all be at the party?

Jinks: Weeeeell, we would go, but we didn't wanna exclude you from the group.

Huck: Really?

Hokey: Yeah…uh, sorry for bein' a bit…shrewd earlier, Huck, my boy. You understand how it is.

Huck: …Of course I do, Hokey.

Snag: Well then, what say we finish the job without any more hassle, struggle, delays, even?

[On that note, Huck nods as all four of them enter the car with the box in tow before setting out towards Mahagony]

[Transition to the coastal road that runs by the aforementioned town, by this point, the sky has turned orange as the sun is beginning to set]

Snag: Heavens to Murgatroyd, it really is picturesque around this time of day.

Huck: It sure is…

[At last, the lighthouse comes into view and Kipper is shown waiting anxiously by the building before the sound of a horn catches his attention]

Kipper: Hohooooo! There it is!

[The orange Beagle jumps for joy as the car comes to a stop just a few yards away from the lighthouse. Kipper approaches the quartet as they come out of the car with the bulb]

Kipper: I almost thought you weren't coming.

Huck: We had a few…delays on the journey, but nothing we couldn't handle.

Kipper: Right, just need to get this thing up the stairs. I believe it was 200 at last count.

[Huck, Snag, Jinks, and Hokey look at each other…blink, sigh, then shrug]

Jinks: We'll give you a hand if ya' like.

Hokey: Careful now, these bulbs break easily.

Snag: As we're all too familiar with…

[Huck sighs as he helps the others with the box up the lighthouse]

Huck: Least the boats'll be kept safe…

[Cut to a shot of a red boat sitting just shy off the shore before we transition to later in the evening as the lighthouse is now up and running once more and the group is now heading for home]

Huck: Well, that was a day…

Snag: You can say that again, all those decorations and fireworks were insane…

Jinks: Hopefully we'll be back in time for the display.

Hokey: I know for a fact it wouldn't be a party without us.

Huck: I know one thing's for sure; I'm gonna drop to sleep tonight like a rock.

[The other three chuckle at this while Huck just smiles wearily. He takes a brief look back at the lighthouse and turns back contentedly]

[Transition to the party at Cedar Harbor as people, engines, and tugboats are gathered to watch the fireworks, the shot focuses in particular on Huck, Snag, Jinks, and Hokey as the coonhound has a tired, but pleasant smile, knowing that, while the day wasn't exactly his best, he still got the job done regardless and as the fireworks blast high in the sky, the lighthouse at Mahagony shines bright for all to see for miles away]

[Cut to black]
