I don't own anything.
"They just taught you how to fight with bending. The discipline? It's purpose? Spiritual? Bah, didn't bother with that in the slightest." Jun said.
"I usually tuned it out."
"Because you respond differently, every student is not the same student. You require a more active appoarch, you love fighting, it's your go to." Jun said.
"We have meet for two days, how do you know?" Korra asked.
"Lin Beifong needed someone to repair your mess when you could have shown a bit more self control. Secondly, you went swinging at me to hide your inner turmoil and lastly, you were watching me for an hour." Jun stated.
"You knew!?" Korra shouted.
Jun smirked.
"Why wouldn't I? You open the door when I had it closed." He replied.
Korra groaned. He just knew everything about her at the drop of a hat.
"Two days and you seem to have figured me out." Korra grumbled.
"Bah! I don't know everything about you, I'm just paying attention to what I'm witnessing. Your lucky I'm getting a five year tax break for fixing your mess." Jun stated.
"My mess!? What do you mean?" Korra asked.
"The Triple Threat Triad you first encountered in Republic City. The first day in the city you got arrested because of destroying not one but several shops."
Korra looked a bit guilty at that as she nervously scratched.
"Yeah, I remembered."
"Well it's not Tenzin who fixed it."
"But he said he take responsibility."
Jun gave a dismissive hand wave.
"That was his way of saying, it's not your problem and he would make arrangements. I seeing an opportunity took it and offered Lin Beifong to pay for all damages in exchange I get tax cuts for the next five years." Jun stated.
"Tax cuts? Huh?"
Jun became mute at her response.
"You...don't know about...taxes?" Jun asked.
"Well everyone did everything for me, sorry for not knowing!" Korra shouted in embarrassment.
"They...who the hell didn't teach you taxes!? What were they doing to you!? Okay, I'll teach you taxes because you're a pro bender and you gotta pay the government it's share." Jun said.
"Right, I usually give my pay check to Tenzin as rent." Korra stated.
"Yeah, yeah follow me."
June went to the kitchen and Korra followed him. There was two rooms, one labeled storage and the other is a office. Jun took Korra into his office. A desk kept neat and clean as it had paperwork in a orderly manner. A book self sat against the wall. It was filled with more books, binders, paperwork and on the wall was a dozen or so permits. Jun went to his book shelf as he found a binder and pulled it from the shelf. He walked over to the table and threw the binder onto the table. He pulled up two chairs before mentioning Korra to sit next to him.
"Your gonna need to pay a non bending tax, which means you're paying 17% instead of the base line of 12%." Jun stated to really get her invested.
"What do you mean a non-bending tax?" Korra asked.
"I'll explain when we get to that bridge." Jun stated.
Jun opened his binder as Korra saw that the records were well kept and fairly in order. It wasn't alot considering Jun had to only pay taxes once but it gave him knowledge of the tax system.
"See the 50,000 yuan here?" Jun asked.
Korra saw that he made 50,000 yuan a while ago. She gave a nod.
"Yeah."
She watched his finger go to the 8,500 number.
"That number is the taxes that I had to give over to the government. A 17 percent pay cut." Jun explained.
Korra didn't like the idea of her teacher losing nearly 10,000 yuan in a single month.
"Why is the government so stingy?" Korra asked.
"How do you think it maintains the emergency services?" Jun asked.
Korra thought about it, as she realized the citizens paid a certain amount of money to the government and the government that would re-allocate said money to city projects.
"So you pay Lin Beifong to protect the city with your tax money."
"Correct but don't actually say that to anyone working for the government. It makes you come off as a asshole." Jun stated.
"That still doesn't explain how you have to pay more." Korra replied.
"Non-benders can't contribute as much but in reality, just a way to exploit them for money. You see, I don't have another sheet of paper saying I'm a bender and as a result, I pay the 17% tax bracket instead of the 12% tax bracket."
Korra could see where Amon had a point. The benders were taxed less than the non-benders.
"Why don't you get the paper?"
"Bah, I don't need it. I pay the taxes just fine regardless and besides I make more than enough money." Jun said.
There were other more things that actually mattered to him than some bending paper. Korra slammed her hands on the table as anger overtook her. She reacted to the news without any thinking. As she said exactly how she felt on the matter.
"I call bullshit on this! Why do you and non-benders have to pay more money!? Thats not fair!" Korra stated.
"I can't blame them. Who's making up the main force of all the police in Republic City? The hosptial workers? The electricity producers? They're all benders. Do you think that it's fair that only benders should protect the weak and victims?" Jun asked.
"What?"
Korra's anger evaporated in a instance.
"I'm saying this is a bigger concept, something that's bigger than the both of us and this equality problem Amon is shout about... is complex." Jun stated.
Korra sat back in the chair. Her arms crossed.
"So what, we just gonna say he has a point?" Korra asked.
"He does have a point but he's going at it in such a unhinged manner." Jun stated.
"Like taking people's bending away." Korra spoke.
"Exactly, for example I'm a bender but I agree with Amon. Does that mean I'm also his enemy? If you were in his shoes would you see me as an enemy?" Jun asked.
"I wouldn't but considering what he did to me, he would see you as an enemy." Korra said.
"Exactly! Why wouldn't you see me as the enemy?" Jun asked with a grin.
"Because we are fighting to bring about equal rights for nonbenders. We aren't here to hurt people or seem like terrorists hiding in the shadows. Bender or not if we are on the same page and both looking for positive change. We should join forces."
"Isn't that a moderate appoarch?" Jun asked.
Korra eyes widen at the realization. Amon was going too far. She wouldn't and it seemed to make her think of the Avatar's role. She was to bring balance.
"Amon is taking things too far and as the Avatar, I have to show him and others that I can do things but with moderation instead of being too extreme. That I can solve this problem not with violence or underminding tactics but by being reasonable, moderate, and kind." Korra said.
"Spoiled princess rubbed brain cells together." Jun stated.
"Who's a spoiled princess? Midget."
"You, muscles for show."
Jun found his fingernails more interesting as he ducked underneath a hook made by Korra. He looked back at Korra with a smirk.
"Until otherwise you'll be dubbed spoiled princess." Jun stated.
"That's it!"
Korra tackled Jun to the ground and pinned him underneath her. Korra gave a triumphant look with her fist raised in the air ready to delivered a punch. Jun didn't seem the least worried as he looked up at Korra. He saw that the Teen was stranding him down to the ground. The position would have left him red in the face. If he wasn't focused on getting the teen off of him.
"What you gonna do now?" Korra asked.
Jun put his hands behind the back of his head and laid his head on them. He looked in Korra's eyes.
"I'm gonna admire the heavenly view if you wouldn't mind."
Korra hadn't expected the flirt as she was now red and off guard. The next thing she knew she was forced into the wall. Jun threw her off of him when she became distracted by the compliment. Korra recovered from hitting the wall and turned to face Jun. He was laughing at her.
"Oh my god, you should have seen your face!"
Jun was enjoying the embarrassment he put her through and she couldn't believe she fell for the ploy.
"You bastard you were lying!" Korra shouted.
Jun calmed down as he just gave her a smirk.
"Hmm, was I? Wasn't I? I would know but who really knows." Jun replied.
Korra became too irritated to be in Jun's presence any longer.
"Yeah well whatever, I'm done." She said.
Korra blew him off and Jun watched as Korra left for the night.
Korra arrived at Air Temple Island. What was his problem!? He was such a jerk for using such a tactic to get the upper hand against her. She hated herself for thinking that he was actually okay by practicing by himself.
'Four hours or so.'
Didn't she practice for four hours? She did and that caused Korra to think further on the matter. She knew he did those four hours of practicing before she became his student. He wasn't worn out by the end of it all and he was strict with himself. He did several things over until it was perfect to his standards. The last she checked, she was asleep for eight hours and if he spent four hours training. Korra quickly hurried to her window as she slammed it open to reveal Republic City in the distance.
'Three hours late mean three hours holding this over your head.'
Which meant he spent three hours holding that box up.
'Does that mean he will only make me do things if he has done them?' Korra thought.
A statement saying, if I can do it so can you. Korra didn't get sleep that night as she was dwelling on the answer to her question.
Jun was standing on the top of the stairs that lead to the restaurant's door and saw Korra walking to the base of them. She looked tired as bags were under her eyes.
"Your on time today, not bad." Jun stated.
"I have a question." Korra said.
"Shoot." Jun replied.
"Did you hold a box full of plates up for three hours?" Korra asked.
"Why does it matter?" Jun returned the question.
"I was thinking about the training and punishment the other day. I thought it was kind of unfair and not very needed until after your explanation. Well, what I'm saying, what I'm trying to say is, that you won't tell someone to do something that you haven't done. As a way of saying, "if I can do it, you can too." Korra stated.
"You know when you aren't so impulsive and reckless, you make some pretty good assumptions. Yes, how can I ask you to follow a punishment if I have not experienced it myself. Now that you know that, you have no room to complain." Jun answered.
Korra didn't know what all Jun had planned out for her. However, that revelation had gained her respect. She straightened herself. She placed her fist into the palm of her extended fingers and bowed at Jun.
"I, Avatar Korra wish to have you as my Firebending Master." She spoke.
"I, Jun of the Chozo am honored to have you as my student, Avatar Korra."
Jun gave her the same courtesy as she did him. Korra would willingly and wholeheartedly put herself to his teachings.
