Leaving Nick to supervise her siblings, Judy walks over to their door and using their code unlocks and opens it, wedging it open with a grin. A warm sensation of satisfaction to be moving to this new place, this new burrow, where their family can grow.
Maneuvering past her siblings loaded with boxes, she checks and finds Lizz and Mike's apartment already open, but empty. Knowing Lizz was dropped off by Mike before he headed to their old place, she figured the tigress had to be around somewhere, maybe meeting the neighbors. Judy starts to walk around the complex, and seeing a mixed group of kits playing, walks up to them.
Getting their attention as she approached, Judy gave a bright smile and wave. "Hey kits. I'm looking for a tiger who is about as pregnant as I am. Have you seen such a mammal?"
Two wolf pups step forward, clearly brothers, one speaking. "You mean our auntie Lizz?"
"That would be her. You must be the pups that Elli and Ed are adopting."
Looking down, embarrassed, the pups nodded. "We are."
Judy's smile grew in brightness. "Well then, it is really great to meet you. I'm very close friends with your auntie Lizz, Uncle Mike, and your adoptive parents Elli and Ed. I actually work with Lizz and Mike at the ZPD." Motioning towards all the rabbits carrying boxes and such. "As you can see by the train of rabbits carrying boxes, My mate, Nick and I." Pointing out the fox. "Are moving in, just like your auntie is. Can you tell me where she is?"
Grinning, the pup that spoke took off at a fast lope. "Follow me!"
Judy followed with a laugh, the second wolf pup smiling at her and leading the way at a pace the rabbit was better able to handle. "That works too."
The pup ran up to a door, and after knocking on it, opened it and went inside, leaving it open. Shaking her head, Judy followed, with a glance up at the other pulp who stopped at the door, giving hera shy smile. Judy gave him a quick pet between the ears which caused him to blush. "Thank you." She then closed the door behind her as she heard Lizz's voice.
Lizz speaking from deeper in the apartment, "Oh, hey there Jake, what's up?"
The pup's excited voice came from the living room. "I found a real pregnant rabbit that said her mate is a fox and was looking for you, so I led her here."
At that point Judy stepped around the couch into view. "Hi Lizz. Meeting the neighbors?"
Lizz grinned "Hey, Judy. You guys are done packing up already?"
"Judy nodded. Yep, and the crew is already unloading and unpacking into our new home as we speak. Nick is making sure things go into our apartment and not yours."
Lizz nodded. "That's great. Judy, I'd like you to meet our new neighbors, Sasha and Will Thresh. I was helping them make an appointment for our specialist."
Judy grinned. "A pleasure to meet you. Sorry about just walking in, but a certain pup just left the door open as he barged in."
Sasha laughed. "It's perfectly alright, the pups, cubs, and kits, in his age group have permission to mostly come and go as they please once homework is done. I run an informal day-care for the spawn of the complex that are old enough for school, but not old enough to be left alone. There are several of us actually. Depending on the age group."
Judy nodded. "I see. That's good to know." Looking down at herself
Lizz chuckled. "That's what I said.
In short order Judy was seated on the couch with a drink and the ladies were chatting, Will acting as butler. A knock on the door drew him away.
Opening the door, Will was greeted by the sight of a red fox.
Nick gave his signature smirk as the door was opened and he took in the painted dog, who seemed somehow familiar, and in more than his usual, I know everyone, way.. "Hello there. I think you have my mate in here. Grey rabbit, very pregnant."
Will grinned back at the fox. "That I do, as well as a very pregnant tiger. I'm Will Thresh, pleased to meet you. Please, come in." With that, he stepped aside, opening the door wider for Nick to enter.
Nick's smirk morphed into an honest smile, offering a paw. "Nick WildeHopps, your new neighbor.
Taking the paw, Will gave Nick a strong shake. "Well. The Nick and Judy WildeHopps as our new neighbors." Closing the door and leading Nick into the apartment. "Sasha and I have speculated for years that you two were an item."
"I'm sure that speculation far exceeded when we actually became a couple. There were a lot of challenges, being on different sides of the pred-prey divide, significant differences in culture and expectations, but we worked through it." They came around into the living room, Nick seeing Judy's ears just peaking over the back of the couch. Giving Will a smirk and wink, he reached over and gently caressed the tips of Judy's ears.
Judy groaned at the sensation, before batting Nick's paws away. "Seriously Nick?"
Looking down at her from over the back of the couch as she looked up at him. "Yes, seriously." Then leaning down and planting a kiss between her ears.
Judy looked over to Sasha. "This goofball of a fox is my mate and love of my life, Nick. Though sometimes I wonder."
Walking around the couch, Nick placed a paw to his chest in mock outrage. "Carrots! You wound me deeply. I am at the very least a jester, and I am quite the comedian, if I do say so myself."
Rolling her eyes, Judy chuckled. "You do say so, yourself. But only in your own mind, Nick. You have dad jokes, bad jokes, and jokes that should never be spoken within earshot of anyone under the age of eighteen. None of which makes you nearly as funny as you think you are."
Nick frowned and acted as if to stumble. "Judy, my dearest love. Et tu?" Dropping to a knee, to the laughter of everyone as he feigned being stabbed. "What terrible wrong hath I done to you that you would stab at me so?"
Sasha laughed, holding her sides. "Oh gods. That's too much. He really is a drama fox."
Nick stood back up and took a bow. "Thank you. Thank you. You're too kind. I'll be here for the foreseeable future. Try the bug loaf or the chef's salad." Grinning at Judy who could only shake her head at his antics. "As I'm sure she has told you, I'm Nick, her husband, mate, father of her kits, and all around great mammal. Really though, it's a pleasure to meet you. We'll be bringing in Pizza from PIES, to feed the army of rabbits Judy arranged to pull off the move of us, and Lizz and Mike. There should be plenty of extra, so please feel free to join us."
Will's muzzle spread with a gin. "PIES? Oh, that is like the premiere pizza shot in Zootopia. How did you pull that off?"
Nick chuckled. "I know the proprietors personally and helped them out, so I cashed in a favor."
Judy nodded. "Yes, just don't be too freaked out if you see rabbits eating the meat marvel pies."
Sasha's head slid to the side. "Why would rabbits be eating meat?"
Judy grinned wickedly, reached over and picked up a skewer of chicken that had been offered to Lizz, and took a chuck off, sitting back and chewing happily. "Mmm... That's good. Curry?"
Sasha's eyes, as well as Will's, were wide as she responded nervously. "Yeah. My grandmother's recipe."
"Oh. Would you be willing to give me the recipe? I'd happily do a recipe exchange with you." Handing the skewer to Nick. "You have to try it, Nick."
Taking a piece of the chicken, before handing it back to Judy. "Oh, that is good. It's hard to find a truly honest curry these days, no matter how authentic a restaurant claims to be. About the only one I know of is Raj and his food cart, and he only sells three days a week."
Sasha laughs. "Raj is not Raj, his name is Roger, and he's my cousin. Even the accent is fake."
Nick laughed. "Oh, I knew that. Got a look at his business license one time while he was setting up." Giving Judy a nod. "Grizz was giving him a hard time, but he had the license and everything lined up. Course this was P-J, so I was just looking for an angle."
"What is, P-J?" Will asked, his ears perked forward in confusion.
Nick smiled. "Pre-Judy. My life before Judy hopped into my life and changed its path completely."
Will smiled at that. "Oh, I can appreciate that. I was just a thug, running with a pack of scammers and minor thieves in ..." Pausing as Nick started to grin. "What's with that look."
Nick's grin got down right devious. "Will? I knew I recognized you! As in Will 'Thrasher' Thresh of the 7th Street Punks?"
Will groaned, his ears folding back. "Crap... I left that life behind, I swear. I did my six months in juvie and that was enough. Then I met Sasha and well, she gave me the drive to be more."
Nick nodded. "Don't stress my friend. You're not the only one with a past they've moved beyond. That's why I refer to my life before as P-J."
Judy chuckled. "Not to worry, Thrasher... I'm surprised you don't recognize Crimson Wild himself."
Nick groaned. "I told you that in confidence, Judy. Why would you out me like that?"
Will's eyes managed to get wider than watching a rabbit eat meat. "No way! Crimson Wild. The Fox himself." Shaking his head in disbelief and a laugh. "No way. CW is not a cop‽ By the gods, no one would believe me if I told them. Not anyone that knew you as that. Then again they wouldn't recognize me either. Just wow. How our lives have changed." Putting an arm around Nick. "Brother, we have so much to catch up on. I always looked up to you."
Nick nodded with a smile. "I have been reluctant to look up all the old mammals. Still, it is good to know that I wasn't the only one that managed to leave that life behind. I know a lot didn't, and paid for it. Anyway, come have some pizza when it gets here. I'm going to go make sure the rabbit army has finished up and make sure everything is where it should be. It was nice to meet you both and I hope we get a chance to see you again. Will, we need to catch up over a few beers."
Will nodded with a happy wag of his tail. "Absolutely. Headbanger lives here too, but he works nights. His mate is a Silver Fox todd."
Sasha smiled. "In this complex, if you attend any of the community functions, you will see us again."
Nick laughed. "Oh, now that I believe. He always struck me as being on that side of the fence, but the macho crap we had going meant he couldn't show it. Sure hope he is happier."
Will nodded. "He is. We will have to invite him over when we catch up."
Nick smiled as he turned for the door. "That sounds like a plan."
As Nick headed out, Judy turned back to Sasha with a grin. "One of the many reasons we decided to move in here was that there are decent schools, nearby day-care, we have friends that live here already, and of course Lizz and Mike moving in as well. Heck, even an old friend of my family lives here. We're just moving in, and it already feels like a home and community we will be hard pressed to move out of."
Sasha sighed with a smile. "That's great. It is a great community that looks after each other, since we are nearly all inter couples, with a few same species couples that have adopted non-same species pups. Not for nothing, but if it were not for Jacob's security system, we would feel far less safe. Having four cops moving in will go a long way to making everyone feel even safer."
Judy smiled. "Well, considering you will now have the Wolford pack Designate, his mate as acknowledged by the Alphas, and their chosen Firsts living here now... I suspect that you will have far fewer problems now."
Sasha blinked. "Say what now? The Designate?"
Lizz smiled with a sigh. "Yes. Mike is the Designate, I am his acknowledged mate, and we were actually married just the other night with the Alpha's blessing." Pulling out her phone and displaying some photos her brothers and mother took for her. "Nick and Judy pulled it off in a matter of hours, just to make sure that our cubs will have no challenges to their rights or legitimacy." Lizz sighed with a smile looking at the photos. "They pulled off a perfect wedding, with an officiant that did invocation for both Mike and I, in a matter of hours. All just to make sure that our cubs, as well as Mike and I, are better protected when we go through the full recognition of the pack. If we hadn't chosen them as our Firsts before then, that feat would have demanded we select them."
Sasha grinned as she looked at the photos. "My goodness, you were so beautiful. Such a perfect wedding."
Lizz nodded. "It really was. It was better than weddings I've seen that were planned over months. Then again, maybe that is why. There wasn't time to second guess decisions."
Judy nodded in response. "That's my feelings of it. We just made decisions and let the experts, such as the florist, make the choices based on their experience."
Will shook his head. "That's amazing." A grin taking over his muzzle. "Sasha! The designate will be living here, and he's married to a tiger!"
Grinning herself, Sasha laughed. "Oh, I hear it, Will. Still not quite believing it." Looking to Lizz. "You are going to have to tell me the story of how you managed to catch yourself such a mammal."
Nick Wolford, the second pup that Ed and Elli were adopting, walked in. "Auntie Lizz? Can I look into your new house? The door is open and a few of the rabbits went in there with tools. Are they going to break things?"
Judy grinned. "Don't worry, they're some of my brothers, sisters, and cousins. In fact every rabbit you see carrying boxes and such, are family of mine. They're just checking on the apartment and making sure everything is in working order."
Lizz grinned. "Don't worry Nick. Have you met the other Nick?"
"Other Nick?" Looking up at Lizz with confusion and curiosity.
Lizz grinned. "Yes. Judy's mate, is named Nick."
The pups muzzle shifted into a look of pure curiosity. "Who's Judy."
Judy smiled and waved. "I'm Judy, and Nick is the Red fox who you probably saw directing all those rabbits carrying boxes."
Nick's eyes went wide. "You're really married to a fox?"
"I am, just like your auntie Lizz is married to a wolf, your Uncle Mike, the brother of your adoptive daddy."
The grin that came over the pups face was as ear to ear as was physically possible. "Oh, that's awesome! And he is Nick too? How does he spell it? Can I meet him, Auntie?"
Lizz chuckled and stood up. "Absolutely. Will, Sasha. Thank you so much for your hospitality." Looking down at the pup who had a hold of her finger and was trying to drag her along. "We will chat soon. I'm sure Nick and Judy plan a welcoming cook out at some point." She was then dragged out by Nick.
Sasha smiled, watching them leave. After a few moments she shook her head in wonder. "Wow. I'm just at a loss. This was not the day I expected."
Judy laughed as she stood up as well. "Sasha. Thank you for welcoming me into your home, and I do hope you'll consider sharing recipes. That curry is exquisite, and Nick, my Nick, is an addict for a proper curry, especially a spicy one. So I may have to bribe it out of you just to keep him from invading your home whenever he gets nose that you're cooking it. He's trained as part of the K9 division as is Lizz's mate, Mike."
"I just may do that. I'm sure you have a few recipes that I might want."
Grinning, Judy nodded. "You'd be surprised. I'm just as much an omnivore as my fox, so I have quite a few recipes."
After exchanging numbers, Judy left, walking across the complex and into her new apartment. Smiling as she found her fox on the couch, a wolf pup sitting next to him firing rapid fire questions at him. All the while fox-Nick smiled and answered them as quickly as he could. Lizz sat on their large mammal chair that she and fox-Nick used as a loveseat, a grin on her muzzle as she watched the interaction between the wolf and fox.
