Welcome everyone to my new chapter for my Pokémon story: A Human and his Gardevoir. Okay, so a quick little update of what happened. So, I wasn't able to gain access to my account and it turned out someone logged into it then changed the password. I managed to get it all back, but it took a while to do so. Turned out, it was a friend's asshole boyfriend…well, ex-boyfriend.
Why it happened, not going to go into details. Just that my friend got it back for me and the asshole got some sweet karma in the end. But just to be safe, I've come up with some new passwords to use to replace my old one. Word of advice: Always be careful with your account and I highly recommend changing your password once in a while.
So, that way you can avoid letting it get taken by some asshole. It did give me a chance, while I waited, to work on the next chapters, and go back to edit mistakes from previous ones.
Anyways, thank you all for the support from the last chapters and since putting the story back. I appreciate the support guys and glad I was able to get all my stuff back. I'm looking forward to seeing how things are going to go for this chapter.
Now, as explained before, this story is set during the events of the Emerald game while having some of the anime story as well. Just no Ash and no Max. May is an only child, while we have Ryan traveling with her and his Ralts, Rachel. Both traveling together and looking to achieve their goals.
Now, the last time we saw Ryan and May begin their journey. After they met through an accident with a Pokémon chasing Ryan. How will things go now that they're on their own? Will they run into more Pokémon to grow their team, or will they run into some trouble?
Tune in to the chapter to find out. I want to thank everyone for supporting my story and my friend for his help as well. I appreciate the support and feedback. I don't own anything from the Pokémon universe, except my OCs. So, without any further delays, enjoy the chapter everyone.
Chapter IV: The Ghost Girl
Route 104
Ryan and May had finally left Petalburg City and were now on their way towards Petalburg Woods. It's a forest area filled with all sorts of different Pokémon. Flying, Insect, and Normal- types. It will all lead them towards Rustboro City. The location for Ryan's first gym battle.
Before then, Ryan will need to train his team and get them ready.
Ryan is thankful to have looked up the different types of each Gym Leaders he'll be going up against. There's Roxanne, his first Gym opponent and she uses Rock-type Pokémon. He knew Blaze, his Torchic, wouldn't be effective against them unless he learned Double Kick, but that won't happen till he evolves. That goes the same for Tai his Taillow and Belle his Wurmple.
Ryan knew his best bet would be Dotty his Seedot or Rachel, his Ralts. But…he turned towards Rachel who was sleeping in her basket and looked comfortable. Ryan knew he couldn't force her to battle. Not after what she went through.
So, he'll need to toughen up the rest of the team until then.
"Hey, Ryan?" May called out to him, causing the boy to snap out of it. "Do you think when we get to the forest, we can stay there a while to let me catch some Pokémon?"
"Sure, that's fine with me," said Ryan who was planning to stop by in the forest anyways. "I was going to have my team workout before my first battle."
"Oh yeah. You're going for your first gym…are you nervous?" May asked while she was riding next to Ryan on her bike.
"Honestly? Yeah, a little," said Ryan as he looked up at the sky while riding his bike. "I've never battled against other trainers before, much less an experienced Gym Leader. But…" he turned to her and begins to smile. "I wouldn't have become a Pokémon trainer unless I had planned to face strong trainers."
May was happy to see the confidence in her friend. She can tell he looked nervous, but still believed in himself and his team. She just hopes she'll have that kind of confidence when she battles in her first contest. Thankfully that won't be for a little while, so she has time.
"What about you? You're planning to become a Top Coordinator, right?" Ryan asked.
"Huh? How do you know about that?" May asked while sounding surprised Ryan knew her plans.
"Mom told me before we left," said Ryan as he stops his bike at the same time May did as well. "She told me to help you and get you ready for your first contest."
"I see…" May should have figured Ryan's mom would have told her son, but had hope to be the one to tell him first. "First off, my dad doesn't know. I love him, but I want to do this. Its my dream. I'll tell him when the time comes, but for now…"
"I know, don't worry. Your secret is safe with me," said Ryan as he reassures May he will keep his promise.
And with me. Rachel replied with her eyes closed, but its clear she overheard everything. She opened her eyes and looked up towards May. I promise not to say anything. And I do hope you become a coordinator…what is a coordinator?
Ryan chuckled softly as he figured Rachel didn't know what that word was. "It's like Pokémon battles, except they involve dancing, dressing up, and doing little performances for the audience."
Rachel's eyes widened when she heard this and turned to May. Is that true? If so, that sounds nice.
May giggled when she saw the expression on the Pokémon's face. "It is, but there are still battles. But the battles involve showing off the beauty, strength, coolness, and love from the performance."
May explained that the contest begins with showing off the talent of the Pokémon, which can include them in pretty dresses, and show off their routine. They do this in front of the audience, but also three judges. Those that do well go on to the next round. These involve battles, which also puts the trainers to the test of showing off their coordination with their Pokémon. Whoever wins gets the ribbon.
"All coordinators who get five ribbons will go on to the Grand Festival. A place where all the top coordinators will compete and fight in order to win the title of Top Coordinator of Hoenn," said May as she finished explaining everything to Rachel.
Rachel looked on in awe at what she was told. She didn't like battling or the idea of performing in front of humans, but this did sound really nice.
And that's your goal, May? To become a Top Coordinator? Rachel asked wondering if that's May's dream, like Ryan's to become a Pokémon Master.
May nodded in response and crossed her arms while having a proud expression. "Of course. And I plan to compete in my first contest once Ryan gets his first gym badge. Still, if you want, Ryan. You and Rachel can try competing in the contest with me too."
Rachel's eyes soon glimmered as she turned to Ryan. Can we, Ryan? Can we try that, please?
Ryan was about to say no, since this was May's journey, but when he saw the cute expression Rachel gave, he couldn't say no. "I suppose we can try it out. Who knows. It might even help me pick up a few skills or two for my next battles."
Yay! Rachel exclaimed as she was excited with the idea of performing with Ryan. Thank you, Ryan. This is going to be fun…" she then realized that she wanted to do more than just compete in a contest with him. And um if you want, I can also compete in gym battles for you…if you want.
Ryan looked surprised at what Rachel said, but he knew she was trying to be nice. He knew she was likely still scared to battle and wasn't going to force her.
"I appreciate it, Rachel, but you don't have to if you don't want to," said Ryan as he now looked to reassure Rachel its okay. "Contests do sound like a lot of fun and I would like you to have some fun. But battles, they put your skills of battle to the test, and I don't want to see you get hurt if you don't want to fight."
"He's right," May replied who after hearing the story of how the poor thing got attacked, she likely doesn't want to battle. "You can wait until you're ready."
Rachel knew they were trying to be nice to her, because of what she went through. She knew it from what she could sense in their emotions. She was scared…no, she was terrified. She didn't like battling and didn't want to ever go through something like it.
However, she knew she didn't want to feel useless. She wants to help, but is worried she may not be strong enough to do so…but still…
I'll never be ready unless I battle, right? Rachel replied, knowing she needs to get stronger in order to prove herself more useful. So, let me try a few battles and gain some experience, please?
Ryan wasn't still sure about this, but he knew he couldn't deny her request. Maybe a few battles couldn't hurt, right? Ryan figured if she battles against less powerful opponents and those she can beat, then she'll get stronger. After all, once she evolves to her next form, she'll gain more abilities that will help her in future battles.
"I suppose it couldn't hurt and who knows? Maybe in the forest, we'll find some Pokémon to battle against that you can hold your own with," said Ryan who figured that would be the best move for them to do.
Thank you, Ryan. I promise not to let you down. Rachel replied as she's thankful to be given the chance to show her skills.
"Rachel, as long as you're okay with this and you stay safe, then that's all that'll matter to me," said Ryan who didn't want to risk his little friend getting hurt.
"Aww that's so sweet," said May who found the moment between Ryan and Rachel to be touching. "All right. Let's get going to the forest. We're burning light and I want to at least catch myself a few Pokémon.
"You go it and while we're all it, I'll even battle against you to put your battle skills to the test," said Ryan who wanted to see if May picked up a few tricks from her dad.
"You're on!" May replied before riding off to the forest, with Ryan riding in after her.
A few hours later
Petalburg Woods, is a forest in the western Hoenn that lies between Petalburg City and Rustboro City. It is home to an array of different types of Pokémon. All living within the grass, trees, and ground. This area is where new up and coming trainers go to train before their first gym battle against Roxanne, the Rustboro Gym Leader.
Ryan and May had arrived in hopes of growing stronger. With May looking to build up her team. Thankfully it didn't take long for her to get her first Pokémon, a female Wurmple. She had trouble at first even trying to battle any Pokémon she found due to them running away. So, Ryan taught her the best way to do this.
Either catch the Pokémon off-guard in a battle or throw the Pokéball at them. Luring them in with treats and then catching them also works too. It took some doing, but she managed to catch the Wurmple with Torchic, who gained some experience. May was so proud of her catching her first Pokémon and couldn't wait to keep going.
Her next catch was with a Shroomish, who she had trouble with at first due to it using Stun Spore on Torchic. So, Ryan had Rachel help her out and used Confusion on the Pokémon. This allowed them to weaken the Pokémon and allow May to catch it. May celebrated her win with Rachel, who was happy to have won too.
Once they finished healing up the Pokémon, they began setting up camp so they could eat, but also to prepare for the night. It was going to take them at least another few hours to get out of the forest, so Ryan figured where they were at would be a good spot to rest up. It was close by some berries, a river, and the path that will take them to the next city.
"I got to admit, Rachel. I'm surprised you knew Confusion," said Ryan who didn't expect her to know such a strong Psychic-type move.
I learned it from my momma a few weeks ago. Rachel explained as she sat on a blanket while watching Ryan set up the campfire. I never used it in battle before because I was always a little nervous about using it.
Ryan couldn't blame her for it but is glad her first battle still went well. "Well, the good thing it was super effective against Shroomish. You were amazing.
Rachel blushed a little and knew what she did wasn't that special. It was nothing, really. You and May seem to be better at battling.
"Don't sell yourself so short, Rachel," said Ryan as he finished putting up the logs and begins lighting the fire with the dry leaves and two sticks. "You are a lot stronger than you give yourself credit. You just need to believe in yourself a little bit more and you'll end up becoming a strong Pokémon."
Ryan finally got the fire going and begins blowing on it to help grow the fire. All the while Rachel looked away so Ryan wouldn't see her blushing. She knew if she kept growing, she would become strong. But she did wonder if she'd really be as strong as Ryan thinks she'll be.
Y-You really think so? Rachel asked as she felt Ryan's hand on her head, petting her, making her face red as a tomato.
"I know so," said Ryan who didn't notice her blushing and just chalked up her not looking at him as her being shy. "Now, let me get the rest of the team out and we can get the food ready. I just hope May isn't going to take too long to come back with the water."
"Ask as you shall receive!" May returned with the bucket full of water that she was asked earlier to get. "We're back with the water and more sticks."
Behind her was her Torchi and her Shroomish who were getting along with the others. Despite being caught, the Pokémon didn't seem to mind this at all.
May helps set the stuff down before she notices Rachel's red face. "Um Rachel, are you okay? Why is your face re…"
Before she had a chance to respond, Rachel accidentally used Confusion to launch the bucket into the air and have it land on the campfire, putting it out.
Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry! It was an accident! Rachel began to apologize as she felt bad for losing control of her powers and putting the fire out. She was worried Ryan would see her embarrassed face and she just lost it.
"It's fine, Rachel. Don't worry," said Ryan who wasn't mad with what happened. He was more impressed than anything else. "That was pretty impressive, but I should make a note not to tick you off or you'll sent me flying. Hey May, mind getting more water please?"
May sighed as if she didn't want to go back to get more water, but clearly something she said caused Rachel to launch the bucket in the air. She didn't know what it was. She was just about to point out that her face was red. Still, she decided not to dwell on it or risk herself getting yetted next.
"All right. Just please make sure to get the tent ready, okay?" May asked before grabbing the bucket and having her team join her again for protection.
"Can do," said Ryan as he begins getting the tents ready.
All the while, Rachel looked down at where she launched the bucket and then looked at her hands. Why did she do that? Was she really worried about Ryan seeing her like this? Why did she care?
She's grateful for what he has done, but felt this was an odd reaction for her to make. She decided not to think too much about it and focused on helping Ryan. To make up for what she did. And hope to apologize to May later for what she had done.
Meanwhile, May had gone back to the river, which wasn't too far from the campsite. She sets the bucket in and begins filling it with water. She pulls the bucket out and decides to take a few sips of water.
"Hmm ~ That tastes amazing ~" May did enjoy how water in the wild tastes like and she loved it. Her dad took her out a few times to camp and she enjoyed it.
It was a lot better than going out to the beach. She used to love it but then that time with the Tentacool, well, since then she hasn't come back yet. So, her dad decided to take her to the forest to camp. Something she really enjoyed and learned a lot.
May refilled the bucket and looked at her reflection off of the water. "Wow. I still can't believe I'm really doing this. I'm really going to become a Pokémon Coordinator," said May to herself.
She didn't think this day would happen. She thought she would still end up becoming a Pokémon trainer and not follow her dreams. But thanks to the encouragement from her mom, Ms. Annabeth, Ryan, and Rachel, she now is going through with it. She couldn't wait for her first contest.
She looked over to see her two Pokémon bickering among one another and knew this wasn't going to be easy. "But I'll still do it. I'll follow through on my dreams and become a Top Coordinator."
She stood up and held the bucket in her hands. "Get ready world, because May is going to become a Top Coor…" May stopped when she saw a body washing up on shore.
There was silence for a moment, before the poor girl dropped the bucket, and lets out a loud scream.
Ryan and Rachel heard this, causing him to pick up the Ralts, then head to the source of the scream. Ryan arrived and looked ready to battle. "What is it?! Is everything okay?!"
"Ryan!" May ran up to him with her Pokémon following her. She wrapped her arms around him and was shaking. "I-I fo-fo-fou-nd a-a-a-a bo-dy!"
"A what?" Ryan asked while blushing a little when he felt May's arms around him, holding him close, while Rachel was being squashed between the two. "Slow down, May. Now what's going on?"
Ryan managed to get her arms off and moved back so he could calm her down. May, still shaking, points towards the body that was a few feet from them. On the shore. Ryan almost went pale when he saw this and had to hold back his own scream. He had to be brave though.
He needed to make sure the body was truly well, dead, before they do anything else. Ryan grabs Rachel and hands her to May.
"Wait here," said Ryan as he took a deep breath and walked over. "I'm going to check to see if they're…well…you know…"
Ryan didn't need to say the word for May and Rachel to understand what he was doing. He walked over to the body slowly, while still scared about all of this. They just left home and already found a dead body? This is not a great way to start off their journey.
Still, where did this body come from? How did anyone die out here? He never heard of a Pokémon trainer dying while on their journey. At least, that's what he believed and never tried looking this stuff up.
Ryan soon got close to the body and saw a better look at them. It was a girl. A brown-skinned girl with long black hair, that covered her face and had a bag on her. She must be a trainer…or must have been. Past tense.
Ryan knew he had to make sure she was all right. Maybe she's just unconscious? He's lucky his mom taught him how to help someone if they were drowning. He kneeled down first to check her pulse before he could check to see if she had any water in her mouth.
Before he even had a chance to do that, the girl's blue eyes opened wide, and her left hand quickly grabbed him. This caused Ryan and the girls to let out a terrifying scream. Ryan tried to pull away, but the girl had a tight grip on him, and he couldn't get freed.
"H-Hu-Hun…" the girl suddenly tried to speak, but her voice sounded raspy and was low.
"W-W-h-at do y-o-you want?" Ryan asked while still terrified and shaking a little.
"Hun-Hun-Hung…" the girl again tried to speak up, but Ryan couldn't figure out what she needed.
"What do you want?!" Ryan asked as he was close to just kicking this girl away and running back home.
When suddenly, the girl's stomach began to growl, breaking the tension, and causing the others to stop screaming. Ryan's terrified expression changed to a confused look. He looked down and saw the girl's cheeks turning red, before she managed to get out the words she wanted to say.
"I'm hungry…do you have any…food?"
Ryan blinked a couple of times while having a dumbfound expression on his face. "Huh?"
Later
"Woo! That really hit the spot! Thank you all so much for the food!" said the girl, now revealed to be Piper exclaimed after she finished eating the berries and three sandwiches that Ryan's mom had made for the group before they left. "Another minute like that and I would have been dead. Isn't that right, Phantump?"
Next to her is her Ghost-type Pokémon, Phantump. A Pokémon that is said to have been created when a spirit possesses rotten tree stumps. Other info tells tales that they're spirit of children who died while lost in the forest. Though Ryan and May preferred believing the first thing they heard.
It turned out they were wandering around the forest looking for some Ghost Pokémon, when they realized they forgot to bring more food, got lost, and ended up passing out.
Piper took out a napkin and began wiping away some tears from her eyes. "Such kind people you guys are. Had it not been for your generosity, we would have surely perished, right, Phantump?"
"Phantump, Phan," said Phantump as she wiped away some tears from her eyes with her own napkin.
"If that's true, then how the heck did you end up in the river?" May asked wondering how this girl ended up in the water where she found her.
"Hmm? Oh, well, I um may have eaten some strange looking mushrooms and ended up seeing things…terrible things," said Piper with the last part of what she said in a dark foreboding tone, before returning to her chipper mood. "After that, I got thirsty and ended up drinking a lot of water. I guess I was too weak to get out and passed out."
"You're really lucky your Pokémon kept you from drowning," said Ryan who right after checking on Piper, Ryan noticed the poor Pokémon next to her, passed out as well. He figured she kept her from drowning, but the poor thing ran out energy and passed out too. "Still, we're glad to help. Are you a Pokémon trainer, Piper?"
"Ah huh! That's right," said Piper as she stood up and posed a little bit. "My name is Piper and I'm looking to become the top Ghost Pokémon trainer!"
Phantump also posed next to her master and spoke up too. Ryan and May looked a bit surprised at the goal this girl had set for herself, since they never heard of anyone looking for that title.
Is there such a thing as top Ghost Pokémon trainer? Rachel asked Ryan as she seemed confused about the girl's goal more than anything else.
"I guess there must be. I know there are those who look to become the best Dragon Master Pokémon, so wanting to be the best with Ghost-types is possible," said Ryan who figured that must be a normal thing and he just didn't think too much about it.
"Huh? Did your Pokémon talk?" Piper asked before realizing something. "Oh yeah! She's a Ralts. Psychic right? Pretty cool and effective against Ghost-types," said Piper as she figured that's why Ryan has one. "Kind of rare to see one around here."
"Well, just call me mister lucky," said Ryan before realizing something. "Oh whoops, sorry, Piper. I completely forgot to introduce ourselves. My name is Ryan, and this is Rachel."
Rachel gave a small wave, while Phantump did the same thing.
"And my name is May," said May as she introduced herself next. "It's nice to meet you Piper and we're glad that you're okay."
"Thank you, Ryan and May. I really do appreciate the help," said Piper who is thankful for what the others did for her. "I really mean it. I haven't met a lot of trainers who would be willing to lend a hand to someone in need. At least not in any of my journey around here."
"Really? How awful," said May who couldn't believe anyone wouldn't try helping out someone who needs it.
"Sadly, it's true," said Piper who knew there were good examples of people who didn't help her when she needed it. "Like this one time, this one guy had an extra pair of umbrellas during a big rainstorm. Mine broke and I asked to borrow his, he said no, and left me in the rain. Nasty jerk."
Though Piper showed him when her and her Phantump paid him a visit later in the night. They didn't harm him, but did leave some holes in his tent and left him in the puddle.
"That sounds like an unbelievable jerk. Still, we're not like those people. We've been raised better," said Ryan who is thankful his mom raised him right.
"And that's good news for me. Anyways, to answer your confusion little Ralts, I love Ghost-type Pokémon. Big, small, weird looking, or even terrifying beyond belief, I love them all," said Piper as she gave different descriptions of the Ghost Pokémon she likes. From a Gengar, to a Sableye, to a Golurk, to Dusclops, and Yamasm.
"I've loved them ever since I was little and I went with my big sister to play with her Ghost Pokémon," said Piper as she finished explaining her love for Ghost Pokémon. "That's why my goal is to catch every type of Ghost Pokémon and become the very best."
"Whoa…that's amazing," said Ryan who had to admit, that is a pretty cool goal Piper had set out for herself. "I really hope you'll achieve your dream."
May nods in agreement, though she did feel a little nervous about being around Ghost Pokémon, but if they're anything like Phantump, then she'll be okay. "Well, we hope you'll be able to achieve your goal. Mine is to become Top Coordinator, while Ryan's is the become Pokémon Master."
"Well, I'll first start by becoming champion of the Hoenn Region then master later," said Ryan who knew that was his main goal, but he wants to build himself up so he can accomplish that goal.
"Top Coordinator and Pokémon Master, huh? Wow. Those are pretty cool dreams. I hope you all make it," said Piper before seeing the time. "Uh oh. We should get going. It's going to take me a while to pick up where I left off to find some Ghost Pokémon around here," said Piper as she looked to find where she was at before the…mushrooms.
"Whoa, hold up. I'm sorry to say this, Piper. But there are no Ghosts Pokémon in the area," said May as she explained how she knew this from her dad. "My family lives in Petalburg City and there has never been Ghost-type Pokémon in the forest. Just the few Bug, Flying, and Normal-types."
"For real?! Ah man! That means my three days have been wasted," said Piper as she kicked over a rock, which caused her Phantump to do the same, but more pushed one over.
"It's okay. I'm sure you'll find some on your journey. We're actually on our way to Rustboro City for the gym battle. Want to come along with us?" Ryan asked wondering if Piper would like that.
"Really? You guys want me to join you?" Piper asked who seemed surprised that they're willing to let her join them. "You all don't think I'm…weird? I mean, I appreciate the offer, but anytime I try asking people to join them, they say no cause I'm too weird and then say yes but then ditch me later."
"Aww, well don't worry. We wouldn't do anything like that, right, Ryan?" May replied as she walked over and gave Piper a hug for comfort.
Ryan nods in agreement. "We'd be happy to have you join us, Piper. It would be cool to have a trainer with a Ghost Pokémon traveling with us."
Rachel seems to agree with what Ryan is saying. I've never met a Ghost Pokémon before, so I would like to be friends with one, and make more friends too. If you want to of course.
Phantump was happy with them being allowed to stay and floats over to hug Rachel, who seemed uncomfortable with it at first, but then opened up a little and hugs her back.
Piper sees this and feels convinced to join in. "Well, with friends like you guys, how could I say no? All right. I'll be honored to join you guys on your journey. And thank you."
"No problem and welcome to the team," said Ryan who is happy to grow their group to just him and May, to now him, May, and Piper. "Now, let's get the tents ready and get ready, because tomorrow, we're going to work hard before we get to the next city so I can challenge my first gym battle."
"And then compete in my first contest," said May who knew once Ryan gets his gym badge, she's getting her first ribbon.
"And I get to catch more Ghosts Pokémon along the way!" Piper exclaimed as she's looking forward to catching as many Ghosts Pokémon as she can on her journey.
"Yeah!" all three kids exclaimed in excitement as they got excited with the idea of continuing their journey to become the very best and achieve their goals, together.
That's the end of the chapter and it looks like the group has grown. Piper is eleven years old, so he is a year older than Ryan and May. She also has only Ghost-type Pokémon. Also, I don't plan to have her Pokémon evolved.
No offense to the evolve form of Phantump, but man going from a cute baby to…a creepy ghost tree isn't exactly something I planned to do. Plus, I'm sure Piper would appreciate her Phantump to remain small and cute. And have her small size to carry around.
How will things go with them while on their journey?
How will her involvement affect their journey? Will things go well for them? Will Ryan and May also be able to grow their team to be ready for their first battles? With Ryan against Roxanne and May in her first Contest?
Also, will we see some familiar faces? Yes, we will but give it some time. They will make their appearances as the story progresses. So, tune in next time to find out.
Thank you, guys, so much for the support of my original story and I hope you'll enjoy this prequel. If you liked it, then please leave some reviews, but if you didn't, then no flame reviews. Also, thank you to my friend for his help as well, you're awesome. See you all next time, take good care, and see you all next time.
