Here we go with chapter 20 is here and I'm glad to be back here. Okay, so…November and December became very hectic for me. Had to work extra hours, then travel with my wife for the holidays, and then helped get a whole shed together for my in-law. This all kept me busy and away from my stuff, but I'm back now.
I'm glad to be getting these out a little better than I did before, and happy people are enjoying them. While I'm also glad, my friend is enjoying how things have been progressing. He's happy with the story going well and going a lot better than how he originally had done before. He never got this far before, so he's happy with it getting to this point.
All right, so last time we saw Attina, Urchin, and Sally meet Polyphemus, the Cyclops from Homer's Odyssey. The story is about Odysseus, who was one of the leaders involved in the invasion of Troy. During their return home, Odysseus and his crew came across Polyphemus, the son of Poseidon. They blinded the Cyclops, tricked him, and escaped from his lair.
The good thing for Attina and her friends is that Polyphemus wasn't the monster that he was said to be. He also got a new eye thanks to Lyra, who made him a mechanical one that shoots lasers from his freaking eye. How will things go when they finally meet her? Will she help them fix the trident?
We also saw Triton spending some time with his daughters and all trying to help cheer their father up. He also found out where Melody and her friends are at. Will they make it in time to help them save Ariel? Or will they run into some trouble?
Tune in today to find out everyone. Now, time for the disclaimer. I don't own anything owned by Disney except the OCs of my friend. Also, again I'm doing this for my friend who can no longer work on my projects.
Enjoy the chapter everyone.
Chapter XX
Unknown Location
Polyphemus, son of Poseidon and Thoosa, is seen leading Attina, Urchin, and Sally towards the center of the island. Towards what he calls "the Forge". This is where Lyra, daughter of Hephaestus, lives and where she builds her inventions. Using the Primordial Fire to help with her work.
Along the way, Polyphemus answered any questions that the trio had for him, while he asked some questions of his own. He explained that in the beginning, there was nothingness. Out from it came Life, which split the essence of evenly among the Primordial, which were the very first race of gods to exist. The Primordial Fire was one of the powers born out of the essence of the gods that was used to spawn all fires in existence.
While it was true that the Titan Prometheus, gave the fire to man and was in turn punish for it, his punishment wasn't as severed as many thoughts it was. Zeus simply made it feel extreme as to show what happens when you defy the gods. Though he did seem to regret it due to how young and arrogant he was. And has tried to show he was a good god.
Polyphemus in turn was told what happened to the city of Atlantis, to his father, and what his stepbrother, Titus had done. Polyphemus had met his stepsiblings a few times and had hope they had avoided what happened.
"I still can't believe Titus would go as far as he did to gain power," said Polyphemus as he walked towards their destination, since the others were worried about falling off when he ran. "I'm even more shocked to hear how father had passed away. I know the Olympians can be killed, but I didn't think he'd died like that."
Polyphemus sighed softly before he ran his fingers along the soft leaves. "I'm glad he saved the people, but I never expected to hear that's how the great Poseidon would go out."
"I'm sure for many they expected him to go out in battle, right?" Urchin asked as he gets a small head no from the Cyclops. "Still, I hope Lyra will be able to help us fix the trident, so we can stop Titus once and for all."
"Ha! Don't you worry, kid," said Polyphemus who due to his age, sees the trio as kids to him. "Lyra can do anything. She is a master when it comes to smithing. It's why her father passed the torch on to her. Because he knew she'd be able to do more than he's ever done in his time."
"I can believe that," said Attina who knew if Lyra could make an actual eye for the Cyclops, then she believes she'll be able to fix the trident. "Do you think it'll take her long to put it back together?"
"Well, that depends," Polyphemus replied while rubbing the back of his head. "If it's something she can make from scratch, she can get it done in a day, especially if she has the blueprints for it. But to make one for something like the trident, well, it's a little different."
"Because of its magic, right?" Sally asked as she figured that's the problem Polyphemus is referring to.
"I mean, there's that, but also what was used to bound the power of the magic within the weapon," Polyphemus knew he wasn't good at explaining this sort of stuff, so he tries his best to sum it up the way he understood it. "Lyra said that each of these magical weapons are basically vessels for the magic to flow through. The hard part in making a magical weapon is making sure the weapon can contain the magic and won't backfire on its user."
Where the magic comes from, he isn't sure. While it's true he is a Cyclops, which were the race that helped the Olympian Gods give them their magical weapons to fight against the Titans, he didn't know much about how they did it.
"But don't worry about that. Lyra has made plenty of magical weapons. So, if she can make it as good as new, then she'll get the job done," said Polyphemus as he tries to reassure the others it'll be okay.
Attina is hoping that is the case. They need the trident if they'll stand a chance against Titus. Without it? She isn't sure if they'll be able to beat him.
"Hey guys!" Sally began speaking up when she noticed something. "I think we're here."
Attina and Urchin look forward before they see they have indeed arrived. Passing through the trees, they've arrived at the center of the island. To their surprise, they see all sorts of other mythical creatures around in what looks like a village. A village where the mythical creatures all appear to be living peacefully.
The village looked a lot like a human village. They have roads, houses, buildings for business, and wagons being used to carry things around. Attina and Urchin look surprised by what they're seeing. They've seen human villages before, but never like this. And run by mythical creatures.
All who appear to be working together with one another like they're a community. Despite all being different species.
There were Cyclopes, Fawn, Centaur, Satyr, Scylla, Griffin, Harpies, Hydras, large lions who Attina believes are the Nemean Lion, Minotaur, Gorgons who don't appear to turn people to stone, Lamia, and Nymphs.
Polyphemus looks down and sees the surprised looks on their faces, which was expected. "When Lyra was given this land, she invited me and any other creatures to live here. I invited a few Cyclopes, who then invited Griffins, who invited a few Unicorns, who…well, you get the idea. Lyra decided to have a village be formed so we can all live peacefully here. While doing our best to guard the island from intruders."
Just as he said, a group of Unicorns can be seen being tied to a carriage and helping escort a wounded mermaid or a Siren as they're known around the island.
"I-Is that a mermaid?" Attina asked who never expected to see a mermaid this far out.
"Ah yes. They live around the shores. They help lure any enemies who try to find the island," said Polyphemus as he saw the injuries. "Looks like she got stung by some jellyfish. Nasty things."
"T-Thi-s is…amazing…" said Urchin who is almost speechless from seeing all of this. It was like everything he read about Greek Mythology all coming to life before his eyes. "I can't believe such a thing could be real."
"I'll say," said Sally who was tempted to fly out when she ducked as a Pegasus flew over the group with a few small babies Pegasi flying behind it. "Aww, they're so cute."
"Cute and difficult to control," said Polyphemus as he explained how only Lyra was able to tame them. "Of course, not as difficult as the dragons."
"Dragons?" Attina asked as she looked both confused and concerned. "There are dragons?"
"Ha! Don't worry. They live deep in the volcano and don't cause any trouble," said Polyphemus as he reassured them it's all okay. "They only come out once in a while to eat some of the food that Lyra has set up for them."
"T-T-that's good to hear," said Attina who let out a sigh of relief.
Urchin on the other hand seemed disappointed. He always wanted to see a real dragon instead of the ones he'd read about. "I thought just having you guys guarding the jungle and all those traps around the island were the only thing we'd encounter."
"Traps? What traps?" Polyphemus asked as he's told by the trio that Helios warned them about the traps that Lyra had set up. "Ha Ha! There's no traps around here. I mean, there were, but once more of us began to live here, we kind of saw no point in keeping them around. So, we got rid of them...except the Kraken, but they mostly live out at sea to take care of any pesky intruders."
"The Kraken? It's real?" Sally asked before looking around to see a few Hydras passing by along with some Centaurs. "I mean, I should have expected them to be real. They all are."
"Kraken, Charybdis, and Scylla," said Polyphemus who didn't seem bothered like Sally that such creatures exist in the ocean. "But don't worry. They're extremely friendly, but also loyal. They will protect our home from any invading force and sink them beneath the sea."
Polyphemus explains that the island is home to all these creatures who left their land to live here in peace. All seeking to live a quiet life without worrying about being hunted down or being killed by some fool trying to be a hero.
"All thanks to Lyra. Who without her? None of us would have a home," said Polyphemus as he took them towards the volcano, where they see a large hole carved into the side of the volcano.
"Impressive, isn't it?" Polyphemus asked as he pointed out how the area was carved out by Hephaestus. "He carved the insides too, while mixing the lava around where they keep the Primordial Fire in the center. Inside a large machine that Lyra had made to contain its flames."
"Extraordinary," said Urchin who's becoming more fascinated with Lyra and her inventions. "I can't wait to finally meet her."
"Well, you'll get your chance soon," said Polyphemus before he noticed something.
Standing before the entrance were three larger Cyclops, who all looked old. They had no hair, but all three had long white beards, wrinkly skin, and were holding large wooden canes to walk around.
"Who are they?" Sally asked, who looked confused.
"The elders of our village," said Polyphemus as he explained they're the oldest members of their village and were close to the Olympian Gods. "Let me do the talking, okay?"
"Of course," said Attina who knew they shouldn't say or do anything that might get them hurt.
Polyphemus stops walking and begins to kneel before the three elders. While Attina and Urchin held on so they wouldn't fall off. "Gérontes, chaíromai pou sas xanavlépo ólous. Pistévo óti óla eínai kalá sto spíti mas?"
(Elders, it's good to see you all again. I trust all is well in our home?)
"Polýfime, ti káneis edó me aftoús tous thnitoús?" the middle Cyclops asked as he points to Attina and Urchin.
(Polyphemus, what are you doing here with these mortals?)
"Xéreis óti apagorévetai stous thnitoús na eínai edó. Den epitrépontai oi xénoi edó," said Cyclops to the left of the middle one.
(You know mortals are forbidden from being here. No outsiders are allowed here)
"Xefortotheíte tous tóra," said the Cyclops to the right as all three spoke in their native language.
(Get rid of them, now)
"Gérontes, synchoréste me. Xéro poioi eínai oi nómoi, allá écho énan kaló lógo na tous féro edó," Polyphemus replied pleading to the elders to not be upset.
(Elders, forgive me. I know what the laws are, but I have a good reason for bringing them here)
The middle Cyclops taps his cane down in anger as it's clear he's upset. "Kai poios lógos tha ítan aftós? Akrivós epeidí eísai o gios tou Poseidóna, nomízeis óti boreís na xefýgeis apó aftó?"
(And what reason would that be? Just because you are the son of Poseidon, you think you can get away with this?)
"Ochi! Ochi fysiká óchi," said Polyphemus as he decides the only way to calm this situation down is to tell them the truth. "Aftoí oi thnitoí eínai xechoristoí kai échoun érthei edó gia kaloús lógous."
(No! No, of course not. These mortals are special and have come here for good reasons.)
The Cyclops to the left groaned softly before rubbing the side of his head. "Pes mou se parakaló óti aftoí den eínai imítheoi. Échoume ídi xekatharísei óti den échei simasía poioi eínai, den epitrépontai edó."
(Please tell me these aren't demigods. We've already made it clear it doesn't matter who they are, they aren't allowed here.)
"He's right," the Cyclops to the right agreed as he points his cane to Polyphemus. "It doesn't matter if they're here because they're on a quest. Lyra has no time for more of these demigods and their little adventures. You of all people should have known better. Now do what you're supposed to do, or shall we remind you what your job is."
"Gnorízo tous nómous tis kai gnorízo ti epitrépetai kai ti den epitrépetai sto nisí tis Lýras. Enó epísis gnorízo ton rólo mou se aftó to nisí!" Polyphemus exclaimed as he stood up with anger in his tone while his eyes began to glow red. "Xechnás, tis écho desmefteí gia tin aiónia písti mou gia óla ósa ékane gia ména kai tha fróntiza ópoios paraviázei tous nómous tis na antimetopízetai apó eména."
(I'm aware of her laws and aware of what is and isn't allowed on Lyra's Island. While also aware of my role on this island! You forget, I have pledged my eternal loyalty to her for all she's done for me, and I would make sure any who breaks her laws will be handled by me.)
The elders and the residents around the village all stopped what they were doing. The elders were almost taken aback by the response from the young Cyclops and how he talks to them. The residents even look surprised too. They've always seen Polyphemus as someone who is respectful and understanding of the elders.
So, to see him raising his voice at them like this was unexpected. Even Attina, Urchin, and Sally looked a little surprised by how he spoke to the elders.
The three elders stood on their ground though and didn't let his response nor his eyes glowing intimidate them. However, they knew he told the truth. He has always been protective of Lyra and enforces her laws. If he brought these outsiders here, then there must have been a good reason for him to break her rules.
"Polý kalá. Pes mas poioi eínai," said the middle Cyclops who is curious to know who these mortals are.
(Very well. Tell us who they are.)
Polyphemus begins to calm down after he realizes what he did and is thankful the elders are giving him a chance to explain himself. He moves his hands out so Attina and Urchin can get on them.
Polyphemus then moves closer to the elders and introduces them. "O ándras onomázetai Urchin, to poulí eínai i sýntrofós tous Sally kai i gynaíka eínai i Attina, kóri tou vasiliá Trítona, giou tou vasiliá Poseidóna."
(The man is named Urchin, the bird is their companion Sally, and the woman is Attina, the daughter of King Triton, son of King Poseidon.)
The residents and the elders look on in shock with what they just heard. This woman before them is the granddaughter of Poseidon, the God of the Sea? This was not possible. Right?
The three large Cyclops move close to Attina, who took a step back out of nervousness. They begin sniffing her, the same way that Polyphemus did with her earlier.
The three elders are all back away and the middle one begins to speak in the language that the mortals can understand them in. "Apologies, my dear. We didn't know we were in the presence of the granddaughter of the great Poseidon. I am Brontes," he then begins pointing to the Cyclops to his left. "This one is Steropes," he then turns to the Cyclops to his right. "And this is Arges. It is an honor to meet you, my dear."
"Wait. Brontes, Steropes, and Arges?" Attina gasped when she realized who they were. "You're the ones who made Zeus his thunderbolt."
"Ah! You know of who we are and what we did, eh?" Steropes asked who looked proud to hear the daughter of Poseidon recognize them.
"Of course. I've read about the Greek Mythology from my father…or rather I guess it can't be called mythology anymore, huh?" Attina begins to bring up how the Cyclops were all locked away by the Titans, before they were freed by Zeus, and joined them in the Titan War. "You also built the weapons for Poseidon and Hades. While also building the Cyclopean walls of Mycenae and Tiryns."
The Cyclops elders were pleased to hear how well-informed the granddaughter of Poseidon is of them and their accomplishments. It made them happy knowing their legacy lived one and is remembered by future generations. Polyphemus was also happy to see how the elders seemed happy with what Attina is saying. It's rare for him to see the elders ever be happy, but it seems that's changed.
"You're too kind, my dear," said Arges who appreciated the compliments, but knew they had a job to do. "So, what can we do for the granddaughter of Poseidon? How can we be of service?"
"Well…" Attina begins pulling out the case that has the broken trident before presenting it to the elders. "Poseidon's son, Titus, broke the trident that Hephaestus had made. We were hoping to speak his daughter, Lyra, to see if she can fix it."
The elders examined the broken weapon and seemed surprised that Titus was able to break it the way he did. They knew of the boy and didn't expect this to break. Not unless he had his own weapon that was powerful enough to do this. Polyphemus explains to them what happened, and it gives them a picture of what transpired.
"How disappointing," said Brontes as he begins stroking his beard. "We had been told that the son of Poseidon was a good honorable man, but to find out what he had done and become, well…" it really left the elder Cyclops disappointed in the once great prince. "I suppose we can let you by and speak with Lady Lyra. Hopefully she can get this weapon fixed before Titus causes anymore trouble."
"Hey wait!" Sally realized something after hearing what Attina mentioned about these Cyclops elders. "You guys made the original weapons for the Olympian Gods. Can't you fix it?"
"Not a chance, little bird," said Steropes as he explains why they can't do it by lifting his shaking left hand. "To make such a powerful weapon requires a steady and strong hands. Our hands unfortunately are not what they used to be. If we tried to make anything, we'd make such a poor and useless weapon. One that we would never accept to be given to anyone to have."
"And besides that, Lyra is far more qualified to do this than with us," said Arges who knew they would be no good to the others if they try fixing the weapon.
"Well, that's okay. We appreciate the honesty, but I do have a question," Urchin begins asking them about if the trident was a vessel for the magic within it, then will Lyra have the power needed to make the magic be restored to the weapon.
"I suppose there's only one way to find out," said Brontes as they begin stepping aside to allow Polyphemus to take the mortals inside to see Lyra.
Inside the volcano, Attina, Urchin, and Sally look on in awe at what they're seeing. The entire inside of the volcano looks like it's been carved out and replaced by a large platform. One being held up by large metallic pillars. Looking over the railing, they see their hovering over the lava that lies below, but the heat is blocked by a blue mist that's cooling the heat and producing steam to come from the side.
The steam didn't hit the group thanks to what appeared to be an invisible force protecting them. Attina placed her hand along this invisible force to find its glass. But it's not being heated by steam but appeared cooled. This shouldn't be possible and yet it is.
They continue heading towards the center, while seeing large see-through pipes that appear all along the walls, with the magma flowing through it. In the center, there stood a large metallic container with a glass window on the sides to allow the user to look inside. The group soon goes to the center and sees it appears to be some sort of workshop. With large tables all along the container, multiple different tools, and unfinished inventions lying around the tables.
And standing in the middle of the tables appears to be some sort of oven. At least, that's what it looked like to the group.
Polyphemus sets them down before he begins calling for Lyra. "My lady?! It is I, Polyphemus! I've brought you some visitors! Are you home?" His voice echoed all across the inside of the volcano, but there was no response back.
"Maybe she's out?" Attina asked as she figured she was somewhere else.
"Or maybe she's in the little girl room?" Sally asked as she gets a confused look from Polyphemus. "It's an expression used by humans instead of them saying they went to the relieve themselves."
"Ah yes. Of course," Polyphemus understood now what the bird meant as he looked around. "Well, it is strange because if she was here, then she'd have her tools put away so no one would touch them."
Urchin walks over to the table and looks over the different items that Lyra appeared to be working on. As he went to touch one of the inventions, a knife landed near his hand causing him to yelp and back away.
Looking up, the group see a woman standing at the top of the container. She appears to be 5ft 8 inches, with short blond hair, blue eyes, and tanned brown skin. She also appears to be wearing a strange outfit that the others have never seen before. Except for those who live on the island and know who the woman is.
It was a white top which stops above her belly and has no sleeves. She also appears to be wearing dark brown pants with a black leather belt. She has black rubber gloves and boots. While appearing to be wearing strange eyewear that has green colored lenses.
The woman begins looking down at the group, before a big smile begins to form. She begins banging the top of the container with her boots, causing the cave to echo with the noise. She kept on banging on the container, creating a sort of rhythm. Very soon the group could hear music being played.
They looked around but couldn't see who was making the music. But it was there, and it was growing louder. Before long, they can hear the woman beginning to sing, with a foreign accent, but spoke in the same language as the others.
Who am I?
*Who is she? *
Who am I?
*Who is she?!*
Who am I?
*Please tell us! *
I'll tell ya!
I'll tell ya!
I'll tell you all!
*Woo!*
The woman soon leaps off the container and does a flip, before begins to fall. Fortunately for her, she has a cable strapped to a belt, that's wrapped around her waist, allowing her to fly over the group. While she has what sounds like male & female background singers.
The name is Lyra!
I'm the blacksmith of the island!
And I'm the best at what I do! Yes, it's true!
I'm the best…at what I do…and that's making...any…freaking…thing that I want!
*She's the blacksmith of the island*
*Whatever she wants, she can make it!*
*Because she's the best at what she does*
*She's Lyra!*
The woman begins flying around the cave before she lands on a nearby wall and lands on the pipes before she begins doing a strange dance.
I'm the daughter of two gods, which of course makes me, a demigod!
No, not like Hercules!
No, not like Perseus!
I'm my own demigod and I'm so damn proud of it!
*She's strong*
*She's smart*
*She's l-li-limitless!*
My papa is Hephaestus the Blacksmith of the gods, who makes the weapons and whatever big daddy Zeus needs from him.
*Loud Thunder sound*
While my mama is Aphrodite, the goddess of love, and what she does is help people fall in love. And on occasions helps them get it on in the bedroom.
*Loud moans echoing around the cave*
The woman begins doing shadow puppets that displayed exactly what she means, which caused Attina and Urchin blushed then closed their eyes. While Sally looks on confused by what she's seeing, since she's never understood how mating is done.
The woman leaps off the pipes and begins flying around the room once more.
I'm the very best at what I do! Yes, it's true! I'm the damn best at what I do!
*She's the very best at what she does!*
I can make anything that pops into my amazing mind!
*Her imagination is insane!*
I can make anything that seems impossible become completely possible!
Like for example…
Suddenly the cable snapped and caused the woman to begin to fall, while it also cuts off the music. Attina and Urchin saw this, before trying to find a way to catch her, while Polyphemus stood by, knowing the other knew what she's doing.
The woman pulls something from her pocket before tossing it to the ground. The item blows up and releases what appears to be a large inflatable cushion. The woman lands on cushion, which cushioned her landing without her getting hurt. The woman lets out a loud 'Woo!' response while lifting her arms in the air and the music plays again.
Like making an emergency cushion to save oneself from falling to your death!
*Say what?!*
That's right! I did that! And that's why I'm the very best at what I do!
*Say again?*
I'm the very best at…what…I freaking do!
The woman stomps her foot on the cushion and finishes her song by moving her right arm up with her index finger pointing up.
Because…I…am…Lyra!
As soon as she finished singing, fireworks went off behind her before she began giving a bow after her performance.
"Woo! That was freaking awesome!" the woman, Lyra exclaimed as she got out of the cushion while turning to Polyphemus. "Did you see that, Poly? It worked! I told you the crash pad would work. I just needed to find a way to shrink down the cushion into the small container so you can carry it around without it malfunctioning."
Lyra begins going off on how she believes if she makes it a little bigger it will make things easier than carrying it in one's pocket. But she feels it would defeat the purpose of why she had this made. At least the point of concealing it from the enemy and having them be shocked to see them jumping to their doom. Only to find they survived thanks to her invention.
"It's a shame the cable broke during the middle of my musical number. I had hope I could show off the other stuff I made, but eh that's what happens when I forgot to check how much the cable can hold while moving around," said Lyra as she took out a notepad and begins writing down on it. "Note to self. Use dummy to do my tests from now on or else I'll do."
Lyra puts the notepad away and goes back to what she was talking about with her crash pad.
"I still need to test it to see how much force it can handle if someone falls from a great height. And see the weight limit it can take. Maybe if I can get the Gorgons to agree to help then maybe…" Polyphemus begins clearing his throat, getting the Lyra's attention. "Hmm? Oh, you got a cold? There's some cough drops in the shelf to the left. Help yourself, Poly."
"No, mistress that's not…" Polyphemus sighed and begins motioning to Attina, Urchin, and Sally. "My lady, these three are outsiders that came to see you. The bird is called Sally, the human boy is Urchin, and the woman is Attina, daughter of King Triton, and granddaughter of Poseidon."
Polyphemus then introduced the others to the woman. "My friends, this is Lyra, daughter of Hephaestus and Aphrodite."
"H-Hello there, Ms. Um Lyra," said Attina as she gives a small head bow. "It's an honor to meet you. We apologize for coming her unannounced."
"We really are," said Urchin as he too gives a small head bow too. "But that was um a nice performance you had there."
"I love your singing voice, girl. Where did that musical backup come from though?" Sally asked who didn't see anyone else playing the instruments she heard.
"Oh? You mean, this?" Lyra pulls out a box that has some holes in them. "I recorded the background music and put it in here. So, whenever I perform, I have it playing while I sing."
Lyra walks over towards Attina while looking up and down at her, making the poor princess nervous about what she's doing. "So, you're Triton's kid and Poseidon's grandkid huh?" She then begins to smile and pats Attina on the back, but it was a little too hard, causing her to nearly fall. "It's nice to finally meet another fellow demigod and one related to Poseidon too. I'm glad Poly has other family members outside of the ones on this island."
"T-Tha-nk you," said Attina as she felt a lot of pain from the patting which she should have expected from a demigod.
"So, what brings you guys here?" Lyra asked as she walked over to her worktable and begins taking off her gloves.
"Um you don't sound upset that we're here on the island like the elder Cyclopes outside," said Urchin who wonders how it is she isn't asking questions like the others did.
"Eh I figured if you're related to Poseidon's kid, then you got help from the other gods to get here," or more specific, she figures Hermes or Helios brought them here. "Still, my curiosity of why you're here is rising."
"Right um well, here's what happened…" Attina begins telling her everything.
About how Titus, son of Poseidon, was sealed away after betraying his family and his kingdom. He got freed somehow from his prison and came to attack her sister's home. Ariel, her sister, got kidnapped, and taken by Titus. Her father, Triton, tried to stop him, but he had a weapon with him that allowed him to weaken her father's trident, before destroying it.
Attina opens the case and shows the destroyed weapon, broken in two. Lyra grabs hold of the two pieces and sighs softly.
"I'm surprised such a thing was even possible," said Lyra who didn't expect such a thing to occur. "My father made this, so to have it be destroyed the way you described it then it must have been a more powerful weapon that Titus had to wear it down. Something I highly doubt he had in his possession or could find on his own."
"You're right about that. That's why he had help from your siblings," said Urchin as he explains the sword that Titus had was made by Lyra's siblings, the other children of Hephaestus.
Lyra became quiet after what she was just told. She begins placing the broken trident back in the box before she begins taking a step back. She grabs a nearby hammer, examines it while humming a little, before going to one of her unfinished inventions. Polyphemus knew where this was going and has the others take a step back. Once they did, Lyra begins smashing her invention with her hammer, while angrily cursing in Greek.
Attina, Urchin, and Sally look on in shock at what they're seeing. Lyra seemed so calm and nice. So, seeing her lose it and hearing her curse, well they were surprised. They didn't expect it at all. Polyphemus though didn't look surprised and had expected it.
Lyra soon stops what she did while panting heavily. She begins putting the hammer down and begins to breathe in before breathing out.
Once she calmed down, she put her hands together before turning to Polyphemus. "I told you, didn't I? I told you my stupid, selfish, and disrespectful siblings would do this, right?"
Polyphemus sighed softly and crossed his arms over his chest. "You did. And you warned your father about this too."
"I really did, but he would tell me: 'Oh no, Lyra. Your siblings would never misuse what I teach them. They've told me how much they really want to learn the art of smithing.' And what happened?" Lyra points towards the broken trident. "This! This freaking happened and because my stupid siblings did this!"
She goes to her table and throws off the broken inventions she smashed into pieces into a bin near the tables. "The next time I see those freaking idiots, remind me to use my mecha suit to send their asses all the way down to Tartarus!"
"A bit extreme, don't you think, Lady Lyra?" Polyphemus asked who didn't think they should be punished by sending them to Tartarus.
"Wanna bet?" Lyra asked before she heard the others clearing their voices. "Oh right. Sorry, but we'll talk about this later," she begins clearing her throat and gets back on the topic on hand. "All right. So, let me guess. You came all the way here to see me so I can get this fixed, right?"
"Yes," said Attina as she placed the case on the table. "I know fixing this won't be easy and will likely take time, but we're sort of on a time crunch. If you can finish this as soon as possible, we would appreciate it."
Lyra walks over and pulls up the two broken pieces before she sighs softly as she turns to the other. "Attina, right?" she gets a small nod from Attina. "I'm sorry, but I can't fix this."
Attina's body flinched with what she said and felt as if time slowed down. Did she say what she heard her say? No. She thought as she refused to believe she said what she said.
"I-I'm so-orry. I didn't hear that, but did you say, you couldn't fix it? T-That can't be true, right? Is this a joke?" Attina asked as she gave a small, scared laugh hoping it was all a joke. "That's a good one. I didn't know you were funny too."
Lyra moves her hands up and grabs hold of Attina's, while she has a serious but sympathetic look. "Attina, I'm sorry. I'm not joking. I meant what I said. I can't fix your father's trident."
Attina begins feeling herself panicking a little as she begins breathing heavily. "W-What do you mean? How is that possible? I was told you could fix it. Your father made this, he taught you, so you should be able to fix it."
"She's right," said Urchin as he stepped forward and spoke up. "We even heard you say you can do anything you want with that musical number of yours. So, how is it know you're telling us you can't fix it! Was that all a lie? Were you making it all up!?"
"Silence!" Polyphemus spoke up a bit in anger that this boy was trying to insult Lyra. "If Lady Lyra says she can't fix it, then she can't. Don't assume that…"
"It's okay, Polyphemus," Lyra spoke up interrupting her friend and help calm things down. "I guess I should have explained this better."
Lyra grabs the two broken pieces before she moves them up. "My father indeed taught me everything. He taught me how to smith, taught me what materials work well together, and how to fix even those that have been broken. However, to repair something like the trident, I would require the materials needed to put this weapon back together. And return the magic that was lost."
Lyra begins pressing a button on the floor with her foot before it causes a wall to appear in front of the tables. The wall contained an array of thousands of different rocks, metal, strange glowing orbs, etc. All with labels under each of the items to show which are which. Lyra places the two broken pieces on the table before pointing towards the walls.
"When we make a weapon like the trident, we use a special kind of material to help contain the magic within it. Without it, the magic will be released and disappear," Lyra sighed as she crossed her arms over her chest and continued. "The problem is the material my father used is rare. Super rare and difficult to make. I know this because I read his book, which contained the ingredients needed to make his old weapons."
Attina and Urchin soon begin seeing where this is going. If Lyra could fix the trident, she would with the material her father used to fix it. But the fact she's saying she can't and how rare is the material her father used to make it in the first place is. That can only mean one thing.
"Y-You don't have it, do you? The rare material he used to make this," said Attina as she gets a small no response from Lyra. "T-This can't be. No, no, no, no, this can't be."
Attina couldn't believe it. They didn't just travel all this way out of here, risked their lives, and almost got killed a few times. Only to be told the trident can't be fixed. This can't be happening.
"There's got to be something you can do," said Attina who's hoping Lyra can do something else. "Can't you use any of the other materials here to fix it? Please."
"Attina, I don't like this anymore than you, but I'm sorry. I can't fix it," said Lyra as she felt bad for breaking the bad news, but she wasn't going to lie to her.
"No," Attina whispered before she begins falling to her knees and begins to cry. "This can't be. There has to be something that we can do."
Urchin begins kneeling to Attina and begins trying to comfort her. While also trying his best not to lose it too. Like Attina, he had hoped they would find a way to fix the trident. To get what they need so they can go save Ariel and stop Titus.
Instead? They're told there's nothing that can be done, and the trident will remain broken. But he couldn't lose it either. He had to stay strong and be there for Attina.
Attina begins hugging Urchin back, while she hates that they failed. She kept on crying while wondering now what they were going to do.
"Attina, it's okay," said Urchin replied while he tried to comfort her. "I'm sorry that this journey didn't turn out the way it did. But it doesn't mean we should give up."
"How can we not?" Attina replied as she tried to wipe her tears away. "We came here to get the trident fix so we can save my sister. Without it, we can't stop Titus. And if he gets grandfather's original trident, it's all over. So, how can we stop him?"
"I don't know. I don't know what we can do, but we'll find a way, somehow," said Urchin who knew the odds are truly against them, but they'll find a way to stop him. "But I know if Ariel was here, she wouldn't want us to give up. She would have us find another way. You're her big sister and she's my best friend. We'll find a way to save her, and we will stop Titus."
"He's right," Sally spoke up as she flew down to her friends. "We'll find a way to save them all and make sure Titus pays for what he did. We'll find a way to save everyone, we promise."
Attina couldn't help but feel a little better about what he said. She knew he was right. If Ariel was here, she'd want them to keep fighting and not give up. She's the oldest sister and she can't just stand doing nothing while her family are in danger.
"Thank you, you two. I appreciate it," said Attina as she hugged both her friends, who she's thankful to have her by her side.
Lyra begins clapping her hands after seeing such a nice touching moment like this. "That was so sweet. It's not often that I get to see such a sweet moment like this. Now, if you three are done, I need you all to take a step back. I've got work to do."
Lyra begins pulling a lever near the table, causing the large container to begin activating and causing the furnace behind her to release some of the flames coming from the container. She begins putting on her goggles, tightens her gloves, and begins putting on her apron as she grabs the two broken trident pieces. She then dumps them in the pot and begins stirring them around to watch them melt.
"Wait! What are you doing?" Attina asked as she stood up while looking confused. "I thought you said you couldn't fix the trident without the rare material."
"And I meant it. So, instead of fixing it, I'll reforge it into something new. Something better. And make even more powerful than how it was before," said Lyra as she sees the trident melting down till it was liquid.
"A-Are you serious? You can do that?" Urchin asked who's in disbelief. "Is that really possible?"
"When it comes to Lyra, she can make the impossible possible," said Polyphemus as she begins grabbing a nearby large apron, a one-eye goggle, and gloves so he can begin helping Lyra. "What do you need, my lady?"
"Grab me some of the gold, some of the elemental orbs, and that new material I found last month. Time to put it to some use," said Lyra as she begins pouring the liquid, which went from the pot, down a tube, up into another pot that has a large item to help make the flames hotter. "And get ready, Poly. I'm going to need some of that Cyclops magic the elders taught you to give this baby life."
"Yes ma'am!' Polyphemus begins dumping the items inside the pot before he begins fanning the flames to make them grow.
Lyra in the meantime lowering a large pole in the pot, before she begins cranking on a lever to help stir the pole around to help mix the materials together.
Attina, Urchin, and Sally watch on in fascination as Lyra begins working on creating a new trident. One she said will be stronger and better than the old one. They couldn't believe this was happening. They're glad it is and are glad to be able to watch the making of the new trident before them.
Lyra begins to look down at the pot after stirring for at least fifteen minutes to see the colors are beginning to get just right. She whistles to Polyphemus to pour the pot down, while she sets the next part. She goes to some stone tablets that have in the middle the form of whatever weapons she needs for the liquid to pour into. She finds a dial on the side and begins to slowly spin it, causing the formation to change.
From a sword, spear, ax, to what she needed a trident. Once it was set, the liquid was poured in and she began pulling on a lever to cause another stone tablet to come down. Sealing the liquid inside. She then begins pushing the stone tablet alongside the large container, before she has Polyphemus slowly opening the side panel, just as Lyra pushed the stone tablet inside.
Once inside, she locks it down and begins to pull her goggles off. "Woo! All right. Just wait another five minutes and then I'll cool it down, before we get to the final phase of the reforging."
"This is amazing," said Urchin who couldn't believe how fast she was making the weapon. "Um Lyra, I'm sorry for what I said. I was just…well…you know."
"I know. Don't worry about it. I guess I should have been careful with my choice of words," said Lyra who didn't need any apology for what she did. "Do you know why my father gave me this forge? I mean, the real reason he went with me instead of my siblings?"
Lyra begins to go over to her table and begins pulling out a case. Inside, there appears to be a large heavy looking hammer. She picks it up with ease and turns to Polyphemus who begins setting up a large anvil towards the furnace before pressing a button that causes the tables to move away.
"My father trained us for years, encouraged us to prove we wanted this, and eventually he saw something in me that none of my siblings had," Lyra soon begins seeing the timer goes off before she pulls the stone tablet out then begins pressing a button that causes the top tablet to come off. She grabs a tong and begins pulling the now glowing trident from the tablet.
She begins placing it on the anvil before she begins using the hammer to finish working on the trident. "He saw the things I made that were nothing like he's ever seen before…" she slams her hammer down on the trident while she keeps speaking. "My siblings offered nothing more than boring and mediocre stuff. But me?" she slams her hammer down even harder. "I made something new, something different, something my father never dreamed of making, and it left him speechless!"
Lyra keeps hitting the hammer on the trident more and more, causing sparks to go off flying. The others watched on in amazement as each spark released a different color. Red, yellow, green, purple, blue, etc. Polyphemus though has seen this all before, but it still left him amazed at how well Lyra's handiwork.
Lyra stops hitting the trident before she begins putting it in the water. The cool water helps cool down the flaming weapon and helps it temper before she pulls it out and continues hammering at it.
"That's why my siblings failed. My father saw what I had that my siblings never had," Lyra finishes hammering the weapon again before lifting the brand-new trident. "Imagination."
The trident looked a lot longer than the old one. The three-pronged tips look sharper, longer, and have blue diamond's circling around the base of the tips. The trident is all gold in color but has some blue inscriptions around it. Lyra walks over to the center of the room and pulls a lever, causing a pedestal to place the weapon on it.
Attina, Urchin, and Sally look on in amazement with the creation of the new trident. They saw how completely different it looked compared to the old one. It looked much stronger than the old one and sturdier. They soon begin hearing it hum, which causes them to look confused.
"W-hat's it doing? Why is it making that noise?" Sally asked Lyra.
"That's magical residue that was left behind within the old trident reawakening," said Lyra as she explains how this was possible. "When the old trident got broken, much of the magic escaped and was released. However, some of the magic remained within the trident. Not a lot of it, but with Poly's help, we'll get the magic that was lost back and even give it some more juice. But first."
Lyra begins turning towards Attina and motions for her to walk over. "You are being here tells me your father plans to pass on the throne to you, correct?" Attina gives a small head nod, before Lyra continues. "That's good. Now then, there's something you need to know. I made some upgrades to this trident that the old one didn't have."
"W-What's an upgrade?" Attina asked who didn't know what that word meant.
"Ah right. Sorry," Lyra apologized realizing some of the words she came up with won't be understood by everyone. "I made some changes to the new trident that the old one never had."
Lyra begins to explain some of the new features the new trident has and what to look for.
"First, the new trident will only be used by someone of your bloodline or of those related to your bloodline. I don't want to hear how you kept losing it to some sea witches like your dad did, twice," or risk it being misused by any member of the family like it was done long ago.
Attina knew that was fair and knew the old trident did get misused so much. At least this way, it won't fall into the wrong hands.
"Secondly, this trident will have the same powers as the old one. However, with Poly's help, it will be strong enough to break any curses," said Lyra as she explains the trident will even be able to break magical contracts. "Even curses used by humans will be taken care of."
"Amazing," said Attina who knew this'll come in handy for them, especially against magical contracts. "It's also unbreakable, right? Titus' sword won't weaken it and allow him to break it again?"
"I'm insulted that you think I would allow that to happen," said Lyra who felt offended with what Attina said and how she believed she forgot about that.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to insult you," Attina apologized hoping she didn't make her mad with what she asked. "Please, continue."
"Apologies accepted," Lyra begins moving her hands along the weapon and shows it glowing. "This trident will be immune to Titus' weapon. In fact, it will end up wearing his weapon down. Allowing you to break it into pieces."
"Really?" Urchin asked who sounded excited about what Lyra said, but then looked confused about how she was able to do this. "Hold on. How do you know it will work if you've never seen Titus' sword before?"
"Hmm that's true. How can I make something that can be ready for a weapon I've never seen before," said Lyra as she begins talking in a sarcastic tone. Lyra then walks over and begins opening a trunk, before pulling out a very familiar sword. "Tell me, did Titus' sword look like this one?"
Attina looked on in shock as she recognized the sword from her father's description of the weapon. "Y-Yes! That's it. But how did you? Where did you?"
"I made this sucker long ago," said Lyra as she swung the sword around from its handle before putting it in its sheath. "My dumbass siblings were so lazy in their invention making that they literally stole my blueprints for this sword and just copied it. While making small changes."
Lyra then turns towards Urchin and walks up to him. "I told you before, didn't I? My siblings brought nothing new to the table when they showed off what they made for my dad. What they made were inventions made by those better than them. They were pathetic."
Lyra turns towards the trident and crosses her arms. "This trident has been improved, while I made some changes to it to make it better than the old one. I even made it that you can call upon the creatures of the sea to your aid, transform anyone and anything to whatever you desire, and control the water to bend to your will."
"I-It can do all of that. Really?" Urchin asked who is shocked with everything the new trident will be able to do.
"It will be in a moment," said Polyphemus as he begins pulling some dust from his pocket bag before sprinkling it over the trident. "Now, stand back, as I begin infusing the trident with the ancient magic of my people."
Polyphemus begins speaking in the ancient language of his people. His hands begin to glow as did his eye as the chant begins to get louder. Attina, Lyra, Sally, and Urchin stood back as they watched Polyphemus beginning to use his Cyclops magic to bring the trident to life. The humming coming from the trident begins to glow.
The chant continues to increase as the glowing begins brightening the room. Lyra puts on her goggles before giving two to Attina and Urchin, while giving Sally a small version for her. They put theirs on and watch as the trident is being infused with magic. They even look up to see something appearing through the ceiling.
"It is the old magic that was once lost finding its way back to the trident," Lyra explained as she tells them the old magic is being infused with the new magic. Allowing it to do more than what it used to do. "Attina, once he finishes, you will grab the trident."
"What? Why?" Attina asked.
"Remember how I said it will only be used by those of your blood or those related to you?" Attina asked as she began to smile and motion to the trident. "Once it's ready, it will imprint on you and will be ready to be used."'
Attina remembers what Lyra mentioned and now sees how she planned to have it only work for her bloodline. She sees the glow beginning to die down, along with the chant as Polyphemus finishes with the infusion.
Lyra motions for Attina to go over and to grab the trident. Attina gulps a little as she walks towards the still glowing weapon. It was still humming and pulsing. She looks around it and seems to hesitate to grab it.
But when she looked over to her friends, who all motioned for her to pick it up. Attina turns back to the trident and begins to close her eyes as she remembers why she's doing this. Not just to save her family, but for her people and their home. She soon begins opening her eyes and grabs hold of the weapon, before lifting it up.
Attina suddenly felt a surge of power going through her body as the trident began imprinting itself on her. But the power didn't hurt. It felt weird, but she managed to endure it until finally it began to stop. She moves the trident down and examines it.
She can see her reflection coming off the trident and felt a surge of confidence going through her now. She looks over to see Urchin running over with excitement.
"You did it! Awesome work, Attina!" said Urchin who's happy for his friend as he begins to hug her, with Attina laughing softly and hugs him back.
"I did! I really did it," said Attina who's happy that they not only got the trident back but have what they need to save her family.
"Next stop, saving Ariel from Titus and save the world!" said Sally, who flies around her friends, happy that the mission was a success.
"Thank you, guys. I couldn't have done this without you," said Attina before turning to Polyphemus and Lyra. "And thank you, Lyra and Polyphemus. Without you two, I wouldn't have this," she motions to the trident. "And now I can go home to save my family from Titus."
"And become queen of Atlantica…or is it Atlantis?" Sally asked who was still confused on what to call the kingdom now.
"It won't be Atlantis yet until you unify the rest of the undersea kingdoms," said Lyra as she walks over to the group. "But once you defeat Titus, you'll have plenty of time to do that. Just remember to take good care of it. I don't give away weapons like these for free."
"I will. I promise," said Attina as she extends her hand and shakes Lyra's. "I really owe you for this."
"You can return the favor by being an amazing ruler and don't misuse it," said Lyra who didn't want anything in return, except for her invention being used wisely. "That and shatter the sword my siblings made to pieces."
Attina giggled softly and nodded in response. "I will. I promise," Attina soon turns to her friends and sighed. "Well, I guess we better call Helios and see if he can get us home."
"Ah you won't need his help to get home," said Lyra as she begins tapping on the trident. "You can call upon the creatures of the sea to help you. Some that even know how to fly."
"Really?" Attina soon hears the trident humming for her. As if it's speaking to her and telling her what creature Lyra is talking about. "Your right."
Attina begins walking out of the workshop with her friends following suit. Once they make it outside, she sees the three elder Cyclops all on their knees, bowing their heads to the new queen of Atlantis. Attina gives a small head bow before she begins moving the trident up. The elders begin moving away, as Attina uses its power to call on the creature she needs.
Soon, a loud roar can be heard coming from the nearby river, followed by a large, blue-skinned dragon emerging. It let out a loud screeching roar before it flew around the town, causing some of the villagers to find cover. Not out of fear, but more because they didn't want to get wet from the water dripping off the dragon.
The dragon soon begins landing in front of Attina before it roars at her. Urchin tried to help out, but Lyra kept him back and made motions for him to watch. As he did, Attina begins walking up to the dragon, moving her trident up, causing the dragon to begin to calm down. The dragon begins looking directly into Attina's eyes before she looks back to its eyes.
The dragon soon begins to bow its head to her and lowers its body to her so she may ride it. Urchin and Sally, who hid behind Urchin, looked on in confusion and in shock.
Attina turns to her friends and smiles. "It's a water dragon. It lives within the water and dwells until it is summoned by the one possessing the trident," she explained, while getting more confused looks from her friends. "Don't ask me. I'm just repeating what the trident told me."
"Oh, um well, okay then. I guess this means we can go," said Urchin who didn't need to know more of what just happened. "Um, thank you, Ms. Lyra and Polyphemus. I appreciate what you both did for us."
"You're very welcome," said Lyra before she presents a sword for Urchin. "Here. If you're planning to watch her back, then you're going to need this."
Urchin took the sword and recognized it. "Isn't this the one you said your siblings made for Titus? Or rather made a copy of to make for him?"
"Yes, but this one is better than the one Titus has," said Lyra as she pulls it slightly from its sheath to show it glowing. "This one can shape into any weapon you want and protect you from magical attacks. My siblings only copied the protection part, never the shapeshifting part."
Urchin understood and is happy to be given such a gift. "Thank you so much," said Urchin as he shook Lyra's hand and appreciated this.
"Just protect Attina and her family, young warrior. And don't die," said Polyphemus as he wishes the others luck.
"We'll be okay, we promise," said Urchin as he rushes to climb on the dragon's back.
"Um excuse me?" Lyra and Polyphemus look down to see the seagull, Sally looking up at the two from the ground. "I don't suppose you have something for me to have. To help my friends?"
Lyra giggled softly as she nodded before she kneels down to pick up Sally. She begins pulling a necklace from her pocket then wraps it around Sally's neck.
"A necklace?" Sally asked who looked disappointed.
"It's a magical necklace. One that will allow you to change your form however you want. Whether it be a human form or even a different creature," said Lyra as she explains what the magical necklace does. "I made it some time ago, but the chain I used was too small for anyone to wear, but for you. It's a good fit."
"Oh wow! Thank you so much! I love it," Sally even looks down at the necklace. "And it's shiny too."
Lyra begins giggling before she helps Sally fly back to her friends. "Good luck to you all and make sure to let me know you're all still alive when this is over!"
"We will and thanks again!" Attina soon motions for the dragon to begin taking off and begin flying off the ground. "All right. Time to head home!" The dragon soon lets out a loud roar before it begins flying off into the sky, while the townsfolk all begin waving goodbye and wishing them luck.
Once the dragon flew them out of sight, everyone returned to what they were doing, including the elders. Polyphemus, meanwhile, stood by the entrance of the workshop, while Lyra begins heading back in.
"Do you think they'll make it in time to stop Titus?" Polyphemus asked Lyra, who stopped at the entrance and sighed. "Or do you think it'll be too late?"
Lyra begins turning around and looking up at the sky, while crossing her arms. "Well, on their own? Not a chance in Tartarus," she then begins to smile and gives Polyphemus' left leg a playful punch. "Now, if they're working together with other people to stop him, then we'll see them again soon enough."
Polyphemus begins to smile and give a small chuckle. "I guess you're right."
"Of course, I am," said Lyra as she begins cracking her knuckles. "Now, head back to the jungle and keep up the good work. I'm going to go back in and work on my new inventions. The flying buzzard."
"You're an amazing inventor, Lyra. But lousy at making up names for them," said Polyphemus as he begins heading back to the jungle.
"I heard that!" said Lyra as she tossed a rock at Polyphemus before she headed back to her workshop to clean up the mess. While smiling, knowing that the others would be okay with the gifts, she gave them. "And who knows. When this is over, maybe I may even help them bring in my inventions to spread around humanity…nah they'll just find a way to mess it all up."
That's the end of the chapter and I hope you all enjoyed the introduction of Lyra. While also enjoying her showing why she was given the torch by her dad. Always coming up with new stuff to better things and help push towards the future. While her siblings not so much.
Also, the musical number there, yeah sorry about that. I just wanted to try it and see how it turned out.
Also, yeah, the new trident is made and has some features the old one didn't have. Don't need to see another Ursula or Morgana get their hands on it. Also, the old one didn't break curses, as seen in the first movie where Triton couldn't destroy Ursula's magical contract or save his daughter from being turned to…whatever it is Ursula turned her victims to. This one though can and will.
Also, yeah, there's water dragons, along with other elemental dragons. But for this story, there will only be water dragons for now. Still, with the new trident, will Attina make it back in time to help her family and friends? Will they make it back in time before the girls try to break Ariel out?
Tune in next time to find out & thank you all for the support for my friend. He appreciates all the support for his story and if you like how this chapter went, then please leave some reviews. Just nothing negative please. See you all next time, take good care, and have a good day.
