Finn raced to his mother's quarter's with the woman he loved and his sister right behind him. It took him mere moments to realize what was about to happen after Sage told him about Elena. The spell his mother was doing would use her blood to link all of them, and if Sage was telling the truth, which Finn had no reason to doubt, it would like Elena too, as she was his blood. It would likely kill her.
Finn burst into the room just as his mother was about to prick Elena's finger with a knife. "Stop!"
Esther turned to the intruders with an angry expression. "Finn, what is the meaning of this?"
"Come here, child," Finn told Elena before stepping towards her and taking her arm. He pulled her behind him towards Sage.
Sage put a gentle hand on her daughter's arm and turned her towards her until they were face to face. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah. What's going on?" Elena asked. Everyone seemed to be freaking out. She would be able to understand that if they'd learned that Esther brought her up there to kill Klaus, but she'd had suspicions that Finn knew about that, yet he was the one to stop her.
"Everything is going to be okay. Did that woman touch you? Did she do anything to you?" Sage asked.
"Not yet. She was…"
"Say nothing!" Esther demanded in a threatening tone.
Sage glared daggers at the old witch. "I don't know exactly what you were doing, but do not address Elena again! You talk to me or Finn!"
Just then, Elijah burst into the room. He'd watched his brother storm towards the room as though the house was on fire, with Sage and Rebekah following. He'd noticed Sage's presence not too long ago, but he didn't think anything of it. He assumed Finn must have gotten back in touch with her and invited her. However, that wasn't important at the moment. "What on Earth is going on?"
"Good bloody question. The only thing I'm mostly certain about is that Mother was about to take Elena's blood," Rebekah said.
"Why?" Elijah asked as he looked at his mother.
"A binding ritual," Finn said.
"Finn, do not do this," Esther said. She didn't understand what her son was doing. When she'd come to him, he'd agreed to do this without hesitation. What had changed his mind? And who was the redheaded interloper that stood protectively with the doppelganger?
Finn was hesitant. He had always been loyal to his mother. If she wanted him to keep a secret, he kept it, no questions asked. But in mere minutes, his life had changed drastically. It was no longer just him he had to worry about. There was Sage and Elena as well, and his mother's plan would almost certainly have ended in Elena's death. He couldn't risk that happening again, and he couldn't be certain his mother would abandon her plans once she knew the truth. He needed to be prepared to stop her, which meant he needed to tell the others the truth. "Mother intended for us all to die. She was going to use Elena's blood to link all of us, which would allow her to just kill one of us. Once she did that, all of us would die."
If she had been human, the color would've almost certainly have drained from Sage's face when she realized the implications of that. If she understood it right, everyone with original blood would die, and Elena fit that description. She would've lost both Finn and her daughter forever.
Elijah closed his eyes and shook his head. He wished he could say he was surprised, but he wasn't. He knew his mother couldn't be trusted. That was why he'd asked Elena to tell him what they discussed. "Family indeed, huh, Mother?"
"No, it's not true. Mother, tell them they're wrong," Rebekah pleaded.
Esther didn't answer her daughter. Instead, she focused on Finn. "How could you, Finn? This was what you wanted. You agreed to it."
"Finn, is that true? Why would you do that?" Sage asked. She was now standing directly next to Elena with a hand on her shoulder.
"Because I didn't think I had anything left to live for. I was wrong," Finn said as he looked at both her and Elena.
"I don't understand. What is going on?" Elena asked.
"What's going on is that you nearly got us killed! You were going to give her your blood! You hate us that much?" Rebekah asked fuming.
"That's enough," Sage said as she glared at the blond. She understood that Rebekah was upset, but she would not let her blame Elena.
"I didn't know she wanted to kill all of you. She said this would help her kill Klaus, but despite everything, it still felt wrong. I was hesitant, but I didn't think I was really being given a choice," Elena said. Esther hadn't said in so many words that she'd force her, but she definitely got that impression with what she did say.
"It's not your fault. That woman will never touch you again," Sage promised.
"Sage, will you please take Elena to my room and stay with her there? It's four doors down on the right. I'll be there soon," Finn said. So much needed to be said between the three of them, but he needed to deal with his family first.
"Yeah. Come on, sweetheart." Sage said as she started to lead Elena towards the door.
"No, I think I just want to go home. I don't know what's going on, but I don't think I want to be a part of it," Elena said. She definitely didn't want to go with someone she didn't know to an Original's bedroom. She didn't think Sage would hurt her, but she didn't know her either. The only thing she knew about her was that she and Damon had some kind of past.
"Listen, no one is going to hurt you, I promise. There are just some things that we need to explain to you. Well, that I need to explain. If you want to leave afterwards, no one will stop you," Sage promised.
"She's right, child. No one is going to hurt you. I won't let that happen. Just give us a chance, please," Finn said almost pleadingly.
Elena reluctantly nodded before allowing Sage to lead her out of the room.
"What is going on? I get the feeling that this is about more than just Mother trying to murder her own children," Elijah said as he glowered at his mother.
Finn went and shut the doors. He didn't need any of their guests walking in or hearing them. There were other vampires there, after all. His other siblings would need to be told, but that could wait.
"Well, Finn's little girlfriend just told us that the doppelganger is his daughter," Rebekah said.
"That's impossible," Elijah said.
"If Sage says that Elena is my daughter then she is," Finn said. He didn't understand how this could've happened, but he knew Sage. She would not lie about this. Plus, it was very evident how much Sage loved Elena. She was definitely her daughter, which should be no more possible than her being his.
"No. The vampire is obviously lying. Your kind can't conceive. You were never supposed to have children!" Esther said in a panicked voice.
"Yes, I imagine that if you hate us enough to kill us, you would feel the same way about a child born of two vampires," Elijah said.
Finn, however, knew the real reason she was panicked. He knew why his mother was so bothered by him having a child. Honestly, the thought of Freya and Dahlia had just hit him as well. "Is that why you did this? Is that why you turned us into vampires? So we couldn't conceive a child?"
"What are you talking about? Why would she not want us to have children as humans?" Rebekah asked.
"Because of an agreement she made with her sister," Finn said.
"Finn, don't you dare," Esther said.
"I don't have a choice anymore. My daughter comes before protecting your secrets," Finn said.
"What secrets?" Elijah asked.
"Elijah will you get Kol and Niklaus please?" Finn asked. If he was going to have this conversation, he only wanted to do it once. Well, twice, he supposed. He'd have to speak with Sage and Elena about it as well, but that would be between the three of them.
Elijah nodded and left the room.
"Are you certain this is even true, about Elena?" Rebekah asked.
"Sage has no reason to lie. It's not as if I didn't love her without a child. I want to be clear about something. I will be clear with the others as well. Your treatment of me will not be turned onto my daughter," Finn said firmly.
"It was never my choice to leave you daggered. If she's really our niece, we would never do anything to hurt her," Rebekah said. She knew that sounded strange coming from her, as it was just a day ago that she'd tried to kill Elena, but all of that went away if Elena was Finn's daughter.
Elijah came back moments later with Klaus and Kol. "This had better be good, I was keeping far better company than you lot," Klaus said. He'd been with Caroline when Elijah interrupted him to tell him that they had a family emergency.
"Well, first of all, it turns out Mother didn't want to be a family after all. She wanted to kill us all," Rebekah said in a broken tone.
Klaus' eyes darkened as he looked at his mother. "Is that right, Mother? So much for forgiveness."
Elijah pulled his brother back as he went to step closer to their mother, no doubt to attack her.
"You have all turned into monsters," Esther said.
Kol physically flinched from his mother's words, but he refused to cower from them. "Whose fault is that? You made us what we are."
"Finn seems to think that she did that to keep us from reproducing," Rebekah said.
"What? How would that even come up?" Klaus asked.
"It turns out I have a child, with Sage," Finn said.
"Don't be ridiculous. You can't be that gullible. Vampires can't reproduce," Klaus said.
"Sage wouldn't lie, and what do we truly know about what we are? Even now, we don't know everything. We don't know what is and isn't impossible. Maybe nothing is anymore," Finn said.
"And who is this supposed child you have?" Kol asked.
"Elena Gilbert," Finn said after a moment.
"No! You speak nonsense. The doppelganger isn't your child. She's a bloody doppelganger. She comes from the Petrova line," Klaus said.
"Sage's family name is Petrova. I found it to be an interesting fact about her when I first met her. I didn't see any point of mentioning that fact to any of you. I didn't think it would matter, other than that she was a descendent of one of your former love interests," Finn said.
"We didn't know about doppelgangers back then. There was no reason for you to even think it would matter," Elijah said.
"But this was nine hundred years ago. How would she even still be alive? Well, I suppose she could be immortal like us, but everyone here seems to think she's human," Kol said.
"And she has no knowledge that she's not," Elijah continued. There were definitely a lot of questions, but he was beginning to believe that it was true, especially with the knowledge that Sage was one of Tatia's descendants.
"I don't know. I haven't had the chance to talk to Sage yet. I just found this out before I came up here," Finn said.
"No," Klaus said quietly. If this was true, he'd murdered his own niece. He'd tormented her. He'd forcibly taken her blood. All of that was fine in his eyes if she was just a doppelganger. It wasn't if she was his niece. He wasn't above tormenting his siblings when he thought they needed to be punished, but a niece was an entirely different story. How could he ever make it right?
"Finn, you were saying that Mother was hiding something from us regarding her sister. What is it?" Elijah said.
"Finn, don't," Esther said.
Finn ignored her. "Our sister, Freya, didn't die of the plague. She was taken by our aunt as payment for fertility magic. Mother agreed to give her the firstborn child of every generation, so that her sister, Dahlia would help her have children."
"You sold your own child?" Kol asked his mother in disgust.
"How do you know this?" Rebekah asked Finn.
"I was there when Dahlia came for Freya. It was the most frightening thing to happen to me until tonight," Finn said sadly.
"How could you do this, Finn?" Esther asked. She couldn't believe her son had just blurted out her biggest secret. She never thought he'd betray her.
"Because I have to protect my daughter. The moment Sage told me about her, she became my priority," Finn said.
"Wait, you said the firstborn child of every generation. That means Elena. You think this woman would be coming for Elena? Is she even still alive?" Elijah asked.
"She is, and she will come for the girl. Her interest will be even more peaked when she learns she's part vampire. Dahlia will take her," Esther said.
"She'll have to kill me first," Finn said strongly. He couldn't protect Freya, and he always hated that, but he wasn't a boy anymore. He wouldn't lose Elena without a fight.
"She'll have to kill of us," Elijah said. Elena was his niece now. He would give his life for her, and he had no doubt the others would too. No matter what else, they protected their family, even when they hated each other.
"And she will kill you," Esther said.
"Then I suppose you'll get your wish, won't you?" Klaus asked.
"I need to go speak with Sage and Elena," Finn said.
"Go. We'll take care of Mother," Elijah said before turning to look at his mother dangerously.
Finn nodded before heading out of the room.
