Chapter 9 – The Princess, The Elf, The Demon and The Wanderer Part 9
Koga and Elf had made their way back into town. As Koga and Elfo walk down the path back into town the two of them spotted Bean and Luci coming their way. "Hey there you boys are!" said Bean waving at them. "We were looking for you!" Koga turns in her direction
"Oh?" Koga said as he lifts his eyebrows in surprise.
"I just wanted to talk to you about something!" said Bean with a bright smile on her face. "You know about…some stuff!" Bean had her hands behind her back and she rocked back and forth on her feet.
Koga looked at Bean suspiciously and he crosses his arms. Bean stops rocking and she grins nervously at him "Well…Koga uh…what I wanted to talk to you about is-Well you see we've only known each other for three days but I think it's fine to say that after all the things we went through like, almost getting eaten by a dragon, falling through a hole, fighting a corrupt organization, and a crazy spider girl, I'd say we've become really good friends right?"
Koga thought about it for a moment "Yeah…I guess so," He sort of, agreed as he continued walking
"I think so too!" said Elfo smiling up at Koga.
"He's not my friend," said Luci bluntly.
"Well besides Luci, I think after those wild 3 days that we've gotten to know each other pretty well don't you agree?" Bean said as she walked closer to Koga
Koga looks over at her "You know you're terrible at not trying to act suspicious."
"W-What? What do you mean?" Bean said laughing nervously. Her eyes shifted left to right. "I'm not being suspicious about anything!"
"Oh sure you're aren't," said Koga sarcastically as he walked over to defense force headquarters.
"All I'm saying is that I think that we've formed a good bond of friendship that…we can be honest with each other right?" Bean said placing her hands together as an example of a strong bond.
"Honest about what?" Koga asked turning his attention back to Bean.
"Umm…well…uhh…" Bean didn't think about this carefully. To be honest her first plan was to try and seduce Koga. But…Koga just wasn't that type of guy to try seduce. He wasn't a perverted man by any means so that idea was out of the question.
"Well?" Koga said, waiting for a response.
"Well…uh…I was wondering if…" Bean sighed, giving up on trying to sugarcoat it. "Look Koga I'm going, to be honest…could you please just let us-" But the sound of the front doors of the defense force opened, and out stepped Archie. "Oh hey, guys! I was just about to come to look for you all!" said Archie waving at them. "Hey, Fergus is awake! Do you guys want to come in and see him?"
"HELL YEAH!" said Luci hoping off Beans shoulder and rushing into the building.
"You guys have one weird-looking cat," said Archie as he went back into the building.
Koga turned back to Bean "So what were you saying?"
Bean looked away and shook her head "Nevermind…I'll talk to you about it later," She said as she rubbed her arm.
Koga looked at her with a curious expression before he shrugged and walks into the headquarters. Elfo looks up at Bean who was rubbing her head and groaning. "You tried to talk him into letting us go?" He asked. Bean looks down at Elfo
"Yeah," She replied weakly. "But I just couldn't get it out properly…"
"Well we still have time," Elfo said reassuringly "You know…maybe…we can persuade Koga to let us come with him on his journey!"
"Us with him?" said Bean, as she began to think about it. "You think he'd say yes?"
"Well…it's worth a try right?" Elfo replied in a shaky unsure tone.
"Yeah I guess so," Bean replied rubbing the back of her neck. "Come on let's go in."
Bean and Elfo stepped through the doors of the defense force headquarters. Bean's jaw slightly dropped as her eyes scanned the room. Above her on the walls were pictures of past soldiers with their swords next to them. Bean looked to the right, seeing the large dining haul that had members sitting around them having dinner, laughing, and drinking beer. Down the hall were the wide-open spaces of the rooms and bathrooms for the soldiers. Koga was standing in the hallway with Archie talking with him.
"So Freya took my place with the yearly duel competition huh?" said Koga rubbing his chin as he stared at the golden nameplate on the wall.
"Well after you left Freya was the only one out of all of us that could be just as ferocious as you when it came to sword-wielding," said Archie.
As Bean and Elfo caught up to the two of them she stared up at the wall. There were so many gold nameplates. The first four that she saw were Koga and the next three after that was Freya. "Wow…you guys were kicking ass huh?" said Bean impressed. Archie smiled at Bean "We have duel competitions with the neighboring town Rochdale. We're currently in the lead with the most wins thanks to this big bastard right here!" He explained as he pats Koga on the back. "And of course our lovely lady in the back!"
As soon as Archie said that out came Freya from her room straightening out her bright orange hair that was around shoulder length. Freya smiled and greeted Bean "Hey Beanie!" She said cheerfully. Once she laid eyes on Koga her cheerful expression quickly dropped. "Koga…" She said in an uninterested tone.
"Well hello to you too…" said Koga with his arms crossed.
"How are you doing beanie?" said Freya, ignoring Koga again.
"Oh, I'm fine. We were just wondering how Fergus was doing!" said Bean.
"I was just about to go see him! Come on!" said Freya as she gently grasp Beans hand and she takes her to Fergus's room all while roughly bumping Koga out of the way. Elfo just followed the two while humming happily. Koga grumbled, "What is her deal?" He asked annoyed and confused. Archie looks over at Koga and smirks "You've been back for only two days and you've managed to make her mad. Impressive!" He said with a chuckle. Koga just shoots him an annoyed glare before he and Archie head into Fergus's room.
Once they entered they saw a few soldiers gathered around Fergus's bed. Fergus of course, laying down with some bandages wrapped around his head. He was wearing his sleeping clothes as he stared at Luci who was picked up by his tail by Sophie, who looked rather annoyed. "Bean please restrain your rude talking cat!" She said. "Uh, sorry Sophie!" said Bean as she took Luci from her grasp.
"I'm just a simple demon wanting to ask a simple question! What's wrong with that?" Luci asked with his arms crossed. Sophie tosses Luci over to Bean and she catches him in her arms. "HEY! Don't just toss me away nonchalantly!"
"Hey Fergus," said Freya softly, as she goes over to the edge of the bed. "How are you holding up?"
"Oh, I'm holding up well! Thank you all for coming to the rescue. Although it's embarrassing to say that," said Fergus with a shallow laugh. Fergus's eyes had fallen onto Bean. "I don't think I caught your name?" He asked her.
"Oh uh, I'm Bean!" Bean replied
"Bean?" Fergus repeated softly. He stared at her for a moment, till finally "That name...by the gods are you-" But before Fergus could say anything Koga cuts in front of Bean and kneels by the edge of the bed. "HEEEY OLD MAN!" said Koga with a big smile on his face "You look amazing besides being felt up by a half-women half spider!"
"Oh Koga!" said Fergus surprised by his sudden appearance. "Back at the forest was not how I thought our reunion would go! You've grown so much!"
Koga laughed a bit "Yeah I guess I got pretty big!"
"Too bad his heads gotten thicker," said Freya crossing her arms and scowling at Koga.
"Anyway…" said Koga, pretending he didn't hear Freya. "Did you have sex with the Spider girl?"
"KOGA!" said Freya and Sophie and Unison.
"Did you do it on a spider web?" asked Luci, appearing out of nowhere on Fergus's lap.
Fergus let out a groan "Oh for the love of-No, nothing happened at all. All she did was go on about how lonely she's been. After turning into a giant spider she wanted someone to spend time with her. As a spider too of course."
"Wait…she turned herself into a spider?!" said Elfo
"She use to be human?!" said Bean.
"So it seemed," Fergus said, slowly laying up with a grunt. "Esmee; the name of the spider-women, used to be a witch. She was obsessed with Spiders. She thought that Spiders were the most beautiful creatures she'd ever seen. So…she used her magic and…well you see what happened."
"Wow…" said Sophie unsettled "How could you be so obsessed with something you wanna turn into it. That, and bring everyone down with you?"
Fergus began to cough roughly "A-A twisted mind will d-do that to you!" he said as he began coughing more.
"Ok everyone let's give Fergus some space. He needs to continue resting!" said Sophie as she rubbed Fergus's back and slowly lays him back down.
Fergus looks over at Koga "When I'm not feeling like this we can catch up Koga. I'd love to hear about the adventures you've been on…" He said softly
"Will do Fergus!" said Koga. He then placed his arm around Freya who immediately glared at him. "You can listen into to Freya!"
"Get off me!" said Freya shoving him away. "Get well soon Fergus," She said softly as she pats his hand and she brushes past Koga.
"Freya come on this isn't fair!" said Koga as she followed after her.
"Um, bye!" said Bean as she along with Luci and Elfo left the room. The two of them followed Koga and Freya outside.
"JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!" said Freya loudly as she continued to walk off. Koga then grabs Freya's arm. "WILL YOU STOP AND JUST TALK TO ME?" Koga said in a fed-up tone. "OH! SO NOW YE WANT TO TALK?!" Freya said whipping and around and glaring at Koga. "When ye come back to town and hardly said anything to me or anyone! IT'S LIKE YE DON'T EVEN CARE! YE DIDN'T EVEN SAY GOODBYE WHEN YE LEFT! NOT A WORD! YE JUST…left like we didn't mean anything to ye!"
"What the hell are you talking about? You know that's not true!"
"BULLSHIT!" screamed Freya.
"Hey hey guys!" said Archie as he stepped out of the headquarters along with Sophie and a few other soldiers. "Let's cool it down ok?"
Freya and Koga turned away from each other and crossed their arms. Archie just sighed and rubs his forehead "Alright how about we all just go to Barbara's inn and just have a drink ok?"
Freya shifts her eyes over to Koga and Koga does the same thing. Sophie just groaned and shakes her head "These two have not changed at ALL!" she sighed. "They've gotten worse!"
"I say they make a cute couple," said Luci.
Once Archie did get the two to calm down he let out a sharp "OW!" and holds the right side of this neck. "What the heck was that?!" He whined as holds a thin needle in his hand. "W-What the?" Then suddenly Archie's body began to shake and he drops the thin needle. Everyone stared at Archie as he began to let out grunts and groans as he dropped to his knees holding his neck. "Archie?!" said Freya as she kneels to him. "What's wrong?!"
"I…I…" Archie falls over. There was a purple mark that began spreading around his neck.
"ARCHIE!" said Sophie as she ran over to him. But, Sophie stops dead in her tracks and turns around, and hears the soldiers that were with her groan in pain and fall to the ground. The same purple mark appeared around their necks as well.
"EVERYONE GET BEHIND COVER!" Koga roared.
Everyone did just that. Koga picked up Archie and quickly behind a carriage that was close to him. Freya rolled behind a barrel and Bean, Elfo and Luci hide behind barrels and nearby carriages. However, random civilians weren't lucky. People who were struck with the needle fell to the ground and began screaming in agony.
"WHO THE HELL IS DOING THIS?" screamed Bean frantically.
"Oh pooh, I'm out of needles," said a feminine voice in the distance. "I wanted to get that red-headed girl and that princess. But oh well,"
Freya rolls out from the cover drawing her sword and glared a hole through the first person she saw. It was a Lavander. The woman with long purple hair and bore bright red lipstick.
"Oh Hello! I was looking for you!" said Lavander cheerfully.
"WHO THE HELL ARE YE?" Freya demanded to know.
"Oh my goodness that's now how a lady should talk!" said Lavander with a giggle."You must be popular with boys," She said sarcastically.
Freya just growled and glared a hole through Lavander. Koga recognized that voice. "No way…" he said under his breath as he emerged from the cover he was hiding behind. His eyes widened. "L-Lavander?!" said Koga shocked. Lavander gasp as she sees Koga "KOGA! Oh, it's been so long!"
Freya snaps her eyes at Koga "YE KNOW HER?" She asked angrily
"Koga and I go way back," Lavander said in a flirty manner.
Koga just scowled "CUT THE CRAP!" He shots. "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE?"
"Well we found out by a little birdy of ours that you killed Noland and took something that belonged to us," said Lavander with a playful tone of voice.
Koga's eyes flinched.
Lavender caught that. "You know what we're talking about…" Her tone got darker as she snaps her fingers. Coming out from corners in town came soldiers from the order of the sword. They all gathered around Lavander wielding their blades. Bean looked on in shock while Sophie hops from around her hiding spot wielding her sword. "WE'RE UNDER ATTACK!" She screamed at the top of her lungs. Busting out from the doors of the headquarters immediately were soldiers wielding spears and axes. They all stared down the order of the sword soldiers while gripping their weapons tightly. A few soldiers went over to get Archie who writhing in pain along with a few other civilians who were shot by Lavander.
"Oh my…" said Lanvader impressed.
"So this is Soutwolds defense force right?" said Hector, emerging from the crowd. Koga looked at him in surprise. "Long time no see Koga. I see you've made a lot of friends."
"Hector…" Koga grits his teeth and takes out his sword.
"You know why we're here…" said Hector.
Koga just glared at him. Freya looked over at Koga wanting to question him. But she knew this wasn't the time. Bean watched from the hiding spot. She was going to appear around it to help but Elfo stopped her. "Bean no! They all know your real identity! Let's stay out of this!" said Elfo quietly. Bean turned around to face Elfo. "What am I supposed to just sit back and watch?!" She looked forward once more and saw Koga, his turned toward her direction with a serious look. A look that means, "Stay where you are"
"You gotta be kidding me…" said Bean looking at him.
Civilians who were outside all went into their homes and watched from the windows. Hector holds up his sword and then points it forward.
"ATTACK!"
Then the soldiers on both sides charged at each other as the battle began.
