A/N: Short filler chapter but there's fun stuff coming!
Note: I'm renaming all the chapter titles. They may seem random and disconnected, but you (and me) will thank me when this story gets to like 100+ chapters, because I constantly have to reread this and I already can't find anything HAHA!
"Do you have a spare phone charger Jayje? My phone is on 5 percent," Will said softly from where he was laying beside JJ. She looked over at him and giggled. They had spent the day watching Netflix, just generally laying around and enjoying each other's company after a successful first night spent together.
"Where's yours?" she asked.
"Plugged in next to my bed," he replied sheepishly. JJ laughed, lifting a hand to playfully pat his cheek.
"You would forget your head if it wasn't screwed on," she teased. "There should be another one in my nightstand"
Sitting up, Will leaned over and pulled open the drawer. He rummaged around for a minute, before stopping and sitting back up.
"Well, well, well," he said slowly. JJ glanced up, finding him grinning down at her… with a box of condoms in his hand. The ones her mom had made her keep in the nightstand just in case.
"Oh," she said, hurriedly sitting up as a weight settled in her stomach. "They… they're not-"
"You got a lil' somethin' on the side I should know about?" Will asked. JJ's eyes widened.
"No! I-"
"Relax Jayje, I'm just teasin'," Will chuckled, leaning over and putting the condoms back in the drawer.
"My mom wanted me to keep them there… just in case anything happened," JJ said quietly. "I don't… it's not because I want to have sex, I-"
"I know," Will said gently. "Just because they're there doesn't mean we have to do anything"
JJ flicked her eyes up towards him. Her stomach was in knots and her cheeks were starting to grow warm. "I think… I think I want to… one day. Not right now, because I don't think I'm ready for that… but… one day"
Will smiled, reaching over and taking her hand. "I do too Jayje… but like you… I'm not ready either. I don't want to rush this. We have all the time in the world"
Relaxing, JJ shuffled across, snuggling up beside him as he wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
"Everything's just a little weird right now," JJ said softly. "Not like… bad weird, like I don't want you to think I'm not happy or not enjoying being with you, because I am, it's just…-"
"Weird because it's new," Will chimed in. "I get it. You've never done anything physical before and I get it, it feels weird the first time. I felt like that with Lucy. When you do stuff you've only ever heard about, it's just a bit overwhelming at first. But eventually it just becomes normal, and natural"
"Yeah," JJ breathed.
"We'll get there one day. When we're ready. At least for now… we know we have protection if we need it"
JJ giggled, tipping her head up to press a quick kiss to his lips as the worry in her stomach started to lessen. "I love you"
Will smiled, pulling her even closer. "I love you too"
A deluge of more snow in the early afternoon meant that the roads became too dangerous for Will to drive home, effectively stretching a one night stay into two. The two of them had moved from JJ's room to the living room downstairs, cuddled up on the couch with the heater going as they whiled away the time watching Netflix.
The room must have been extremely toasty, because next thing JJ knew, she was being gently shaken awake by her mother, now safely home from work.
"JJ," Sandy's soft voice said as JJ blearily opened her eyes. For a moment, she couldn't remember where she was, staring around the room trying to make sense of her surroundings. Then she became aware of the arm wrapped around her waist, the contoured muscles of Will's chest beneath the soft fabric under her hand. They'd fallen asleep tangled together on the couch for everyone to see.
Feeling her cheeks flush, JJ groggily pulled herself up so she was sitting, rubbing her eyes as she did.
"Sorry, I didn't want to wake you up but it's almost time for dinner," Sandy said gently. "Your dad's stuck on the phone with the district attorney, can you set the table for me?"
"Yeah," JJ mumbled, trying to fight off the grogginess as she pulled herself up off the couch. Will stirred at the moment, his blue eyes blinking awake in the same disoriented state JJ had been in. He took a deep breath in, his face relaxing from confusion to a smile.
"Is that a roast?" he said sleepily, getting a laugh out of Sandy.
"Sure is sleepyhead," she teased. "JJ's just coming to help me set the table, but you stay put and wake up a bit more, ok?"
JJ followed her mom out of the lounge room and into the kitchen. "Did we fall asleep cuddling?"
Sandy looked at her over her shoulder, throwing her daughter a smile. "Sure looks like it. You looked very comfortable… I really didn't want to wake you, but you guys wouldn't have slept tonight if I didn't"
JJ felt her cheeks turning pink again as she picked up a stack of plates. Sandy chuckled, looking at her curiously. "You know it's not an issue, right? You are allowed to cuddle him if you want to"
"Yeah, I know, it's just… kinda weird for everyone to see, he's been my best friend for years," JJ said softly, moving over to the table.
"Well, as long as it's PG, your dad and I don't care. We just want you guys to feel comfortable being a couple in this house," Sandy replied.
Not having a clear enough head for the conversation, JJ quickly set the table, before heading back to the lounge room where Will was now sitting up, one arm stretched across the back of the couch.
"You know it's a solid nap when it takes you five minutes to register where you are," he chuckled as she came to sit beside him. He lifted a hand, brushing her hair back from her eyes. "You look so cute when you've just woken up"
"Sure I do," JJ said with a smirk. Will laughed, leaning in and pressing a quick kiss to her lips.
"Ready for me to hog the covers again tonight?"
JJ laughed. "As long as you're ready for me to plant my freezing feet on you if you do"
"Always," Will chuckled, leaning in again. "Always"
