A/N: Again, most of these chapters are pre-written. Enjoy!
The end of January brought another national team camp. With both junior and senior hopes for national team selection, it was a very full camp of almost thirty girls.
Physical abilities testing and routine verification had been the focus of the camp. For the girls hoping to make the Jesolo team later in the spring, it was important for all their routines to be almost completely put together by now. JJ's routines were complete with the exception of her floor routine, which she was still learning choreography for.
As well as being reunited with Gabby and Aly at camp for the first time, JJ had met a few of the juniors who would be senior in time to make a bid for the 2016 Olympic Games. Laurie Hernandez, Ragan Smith, and Jazmyn Foberg had been at the top of the group of juniors, and JJ had found herself quietly impressed. She had briefly met all over them in passing before, but had never had the chance to properly get to know them. One evening, they had all gathered in one of the dorms to hang out, and it had to led to pure hilarity.
"That's why JJ gets Saturday afternoons and Sundays off; so she can spend every weekend getting absolutely railed by Will"
Quick as a whip, JJ shot her hand out, slapping Aly's upper arm as the girls started to laugh. "Aly!" she admonished, before leaning over and covering Laurie's ears with a look of shock. "They are babies, they don't need to hear that!"
"What, it's true!" Aly teased, getting another admonishing glare from JJ. "Don't be ashamed of it girl, you two are like the hottest couple around, insanely hot sex is basically a given"
"Aly!"
"We could totally use this to our advantage," Simone mused quietly from the other side of the room.
JJ rolled her eyes. "How?"
"Well… you're the only one in this room who's had sex. And we're all sheltered little babies," Simone giggled. "You can be our wise advice giver!"
The girls all laughed, some of them nodding eagerly as JJ shook her head with a defeated grin.
"Can we ask you questions?!" Laurie exclaimed.
"We'll call you Mama JJ!"
At that, JJ had to laugh. "Way to make me feel old guys"
"Excuse me, I'm Grandma!" Aly exclaimed, inciting more giggles.
JJ grinned, turning back to face her suddenly captive audience.
"I guess… if there's anything you want to know… I can try and answer any questions"
"What does semen taste like?"
The room seemed to explode into laughter, the girls cracking up completely at the abrupt question that had come out of Laurie's mouth. Completely overcome, Aly was doubled over beside JJ, slapping the edge of the bed repeatedly as she laughed.
"Oh wow, Laurie, that was a good one," she gasped after a few minutes of slowly dying laughter had passed. "That's assuming our goodie two shoes JJ actually lets Will… do that… in her mouth"
Still giggling, JJ felt her cheeks turn a furious red as she looked up at the expectant faces of her friends and teammates.
"Uh…," she started, suddenly feeling very self-conscious. "Like… really bad seawater?"
The laughter erupted again, surely at the knowledge that JJ, in all her innocent glory, had definitely done some not so innocent things.
"Is sex weird?" asked Norah once they had all calmed down again.
"Yes," JJ replied without missing a beat, a grin spreading across her face as they started giggling again. "But it's fun too"
"Is it special?" piped up Jazmyn from the far corner of the room.
JJ softened, her face relaxing into a smile as she thought of all those wonderful nights when Will's loving gaze had seemed to light her entire body on fire.
"With the right person… yes. When you have an emotional connection with someone, sex is… incredible, to say the least. I've lost count of the amount of times I've started crying afterwards because the rush of love and emotion is just so intense. It might be about fun, and feeling good… but it's also about loving each other… and, at least, for Will and I… that's what makes it so incredible"
With so much going on, JJ hadn't had a chance to worry about whatever was going on with Will, even with all the questions the girls had fired at her. Her mind was solely on her gymnastics, and making the changes and improvements needed to secure herself a spot on upcoming teams.
But now, she was home, exhausted but motivated and hungry for whatever was coming next.
Her stomach was still fluttering with anxiety, a feeling that she had long embraced as a companion for some time. By this point, she didn't know if it was because of gymnastics, or Will, or something else... she just knew it was going to be the norm until everything started to settle down.
She'd texted Will earlier, letting him know she was home from camp and asking whether they were going to see each other that weekend. She had also asked if he was alright, but as she expected, he hadn't replied.
She was lost in her thoughts, her mind running through a thousand different possibilities, when as if on cue, her phone buzzed beside her. Practically diving for it, she picked it up and immediately unlocked it. Sure enough, there was a text from Will.
JJ I can't do this right now.
Her heart dropped into her stomach like a rock, and the tears were instantaneous. Like a flood of disbelief down her cheeks, she let them fall, sobbing openly as she tossed her phone to the end of her bed.
She didn't realise how loudly she was crying until her mom came into the room, clearly worried.
"What happened? What's wrong?" Sandy asked, the concern written all over her face as she approached JJ.
"I think Will's going to break up with me," JJ sobbed.
"Oh sweetheart," Sandy breathed, pulling JJ into her arms and holding her tight. "What's happened?"
"He won't talk to me... I messaged him before... and he said he can't do this right now," JJ cried, clutching at her mom for the comfort she wanted so badly. "I must have... done something to make him... hate me"
Lost for words, all Sandy could do was hold her distraught daughter as she cried. Something in JJ and Will's world had flipped all of a sudden. And it seemed no-one knew what it was.
"Everything ok? I thought I heard JJ crying," Michael asked as Sandy came into the lounge room nearly an hour later.
"Yeah," Sandy sighed, running a hand through her hair. "She and Will are going through a rough patch... she thinks he's going to break up with her"
Michael's face fell, a sigh escaping him as he sat down on the couch. "What's brought that on?"
Sandy shrugged, crossing the room to sit beside her husband. "No idea. He's acting strange though... hasn't spoken to her in a couple of weeks, he's avoiding her... she's pretty worked up about it"
"I always thought we could trust Will not to hurt her," Michael said quietly.
"I will admit though, this isn't like Will. They've been together for two years and friends for twelve... he's never done anything like this to her before, which makes me wonder if we should be worried about him as well," Sandy said. "And it's not like JJ to get this upset about something without knowing the full story. There's got to be something else going on as well"
"You know JJ though... she's stubborn as they come. If she doesn't want to tell you, you're not going to find out," Michael replied. "Just give her a little bit of time and space, and if she wants to tell you about whatever else is on her mind, she will"
Silence fell for a minute, Sandy resting her head on Michael's shoulder as they settled back, before Michael spoke again.
"Is she ok now?"
"She fell asleep," Sandy replied. "She was exhausted from camp, I wonder if a decent night's sleep might make it all less horrible for her in the morning"
"Hopefully," Michael said, wrapping an arm around Sandy's shoulders. "We'll just have to keep an eye on her for now. But she'll be fine in the long run. She's Jennifer Jareau"
Smiling, Sandy nodded.
Jennifer Jareau was too strong to let a boy be the reason she fell apart. Of that, she was certain.
