Sam helped Lacy into Bobby's house and sat her down on the couch. He handed her a pillow and blanket and asked if she needed anything.
Lacy was disoriented. "Uh no thanks."
Kate sat beside her and assured her that everything would be okay. She helped her fall asleep and made sure she was safe.
Bobby looked at the sigil Kate had drawn and took photos of it. He made a copy of it in his journal and washed it off the window.
Kate skipped out to the truck. "Is there anything I can help with?"
Bobby chuckled. "Where did you get all the energy?"
Kate smiled. "Adrenalin I guess."
Bobby grabbed their gear and took it inside. "Good, she is sleeping."
Sam called Dean to let him know that they were back at the house and Lacy was sleeping. "She will be here when you get here. Don't worry."
Kate looked around the room for something to do.
"It isn't morning yet so you and Sam can go back to bed. I'll keep an eye on Lacy." Bobby said.
Sam turned to go up the stairs.
"I'm not sleepy." Kate said.
Sam pulled her with him. "The rush will wear off and you will be. Come on."
Kate sighed but followed him. "I can sleep tomorrow."
Sam looked at her. "You'll be grumpy tomorrow."
Kate rolled her eyes and fell back on her bed.
Sam did the same and quickly fell asleep.
Kate tried to go to sleep but she felt like she was vibrating. She knew she couldn't up and go downstairs. She also knew that if she tried to do anything upstairs she would wake Sam up. She laid there for thirty minutes before the power surge became too much. She closed her eyes and let her mind take her for a ride.
She looked around her at the stone walls. She ran her fingers along them and walked toward a pale light. She had never seen walls or floors like the ones that she was walking along. She heard voices and peaked her head around a corner. Inside a large room was an antique set of chairs and a coffee table. Two people inhabited the room and were wearing intricate dresses. Kate furrowed her brows. She was truly confused. She looked around at the banners on the wall and continued down the hallway toward a window. She looked over a courtyard and saw high, stone walls with a river running outside the gate. She went back to eavesdrop on the conversation in the large room.
The two women spoke quietly of an ancient evil that had made the town's people ill. The doctor couldn't do anything for the dying villagers and hope was beginning to waver. A group of men were sent to the outskirts of the town to find the source of the illness.
Kate wondered if the illness was one that could be prevented by handwashing because the place she was in looked like it was in the middle ages. She wondered why her abilities took her to such a place. She mulled over what she had heard the women say before it dawned on her that they were not speaking English. She wasn't sure how she understood what they were saying. Surely, it was her mind making up the language. She snuck down the corridor to find out more about where she was. She saw a man walk by wearing a plaid skirt and stifled a giggle. She put her hand over her mouth. She must be in Scotland. Why was she in Scotland? Her head was spinning. Was she dreaming or was this scene important in some way? Kate found what she assumed was the front entrance of the building. It had two banners on either side of a heavy door and shield in the middle, over the top of the door. She tiptoed to get a closer look at the shield and gasped.
Kate sat up in bed and made sure that Sam was still sleeping. She tiptoed to the other room and found Sam's book sitting in a small stack. She ran her fingers over the symbol in the middle. She was certain that the symbol and the shield were the same. She opened the book and blinked her eyes rapidly. Before, the writings in the book were foreign to her. She couldn't read and it took hours to translate a few pages. She pulled out a sheet of paper with a translation on it to double check her findings. She wasn't sure how but she could read the book. She grabbed clean sheets of paper, a pen and the book and took them back to her bed. She laid on her stomach with the blanket over herself so she could translate without waking Sam up. She filled four pages front and back with the English translation of the book before her eyes grew heavy. She shook her head and tried to focus. Soon, though, her eyes closed and her face hit the pillow.
Dean pulled up to Bobby's house and quietly entered. "Where is she?"
Bobby pointed to the couch. "She has been sleeping peacefully."
Dean went over and placed a hand on Lacy's hip. He wanted to be certain that she truly was okay. "Hey, Lace." He said gently.
Lacy opened her eyes and sat up, throwing her arms around his neck. "I'm so sorry I called you. I had a weird dream and I got spooked. I guess I must have had a panic attack."
Dean rubbed her back. "That is what I am here for." He sat and talked to Lacy as she regained her wits. "How about we find a little motel and check in for the night."
Lacy smiled and nodded.
Dean gave Bobby a heads up and left with Lacy.
Bobby drove back to Lacy's house to make sure all trace of demons were gone. He tidied up the chair and disposed of the rope she had been tied with. He hid some sigils and locked the house behind him. The lack of sleep was catching up with him so he drove back to the house and went straight to bed.
Sam woke up some time the next morning. The house was silent but he had a message from Dean telling him where he and Lacy were. Sam shook his head. Leave it to Dean to make the best of a bad situation. He looked over to make sure Kate was still asleep and went to take a shower. After his shower he made a pot of coffee and quietly went back to the room. He figured if Bobby was sleeping in, it meant he needed the sleep. He drank his entire cup of coffee and checked the time. They didn't have school that day, thankfully, so he let Kate sleep.
Kate woke up and rolled over. The sun was shining in the window and she could hear movement downstairs. She put Sam's book back on his desk where she found it and went to the kitchen. "Good morning." She said, happily.
Bobby had his back to her but returned the greeting.
Sam looked up from his second cup of coffee and squinted at Kate. "What is on your face?"
Kate touched her cheek. "I don't think there is anything on my face."
Sam motioned for her to get closer. "Is that ink?"
Kate rubbed her face and saw a slight ink stain on her hand.
Bobby grabbed a dishcloth and wet it with warm water. "How did you get ink on your face?" He asked and started to wipe it away.
Kate groaned. "I must have fallen asleep with my face on the book. I'll go get it." She said and took the cloth from Bobby. She returned with a clean face and Sam's book.
"I thought you were asleep." Sam said.
Kate sighed. "I tried to sleep but couldn't so I did some translating."
Sam pulled the sheets of paper from the book. "How long were you up?"
Kate furrowed her brows. "I don't know. Maybe a few hours."
Sam flipped the pages over and then handed them to Bobby.
"How did you translate that much in one night; not even a night?" Bobby asked.
Kate shrugged. "It is like learning any other language. It clicks after a while."
Sam read one of the pages and scratched his head. "With all three of us working together, we didn't get this far."
Kate rolled her eyes. "Check it if you want."
Sam opened the book and referenced the page he was holding. "It looks correct for where we left off. These symbols do appear to be what this says they are." He said and pointed to the translated page.
Kate smiled. "You're welcome. Where is Dean?"
Bobby chuckled. "He and Lacy rented a room last night."
Kate made a face.
Bobby shook his head. "I went back to Lacy's house last night and cleared the signs of a struggle."
Kate nibbled on breakfast but wasn't that hungry. "I should probably run before doing chores so I can get a shower." She said.
Bobby shrugged. "Alright. Take your phone with you."
Kate grabbed her phone and put on her shoes. She stretched and set off on the daily run that Dean had assigned her. She made excellent time. She checked her phone and noted the amount of time it had taken her to run. This was her personal record. She went back inside and ran up the stairs.
Sam heard her sprint up the stairs and turn the water on. "Did she run the full 3 miles?"
Bobby looked at the clock. "I don't know. She may be tired from last night and cut it down. I don't think Dean would hold that against her."
Sam chose a clean sheet of paper and worked on the next page of the book. The obscure language wasn't clicking for him the way it did for Kate but research had shown that the younger someone was when they learn a language, the easier it was for them to learn it.
Bobby set his journal on the table. "Have you come across anything like this before?"
Sam looked at the sigil. "I have seen similar ones but not that one."
Bobby scrubbed his chin. "I wonder where Kate saw it."
Sam furrowed his brows. "I'm not sure I want the answer to that."
Bobby nodded in agreeance. They heard the water shut off and Kate shuffling to the bedroom. "I guess we can ask her."
Kate walked back into the kitchen and looked at what Sam was working on. "Do you want some help?"
Sam passed her the book and page. The reason it took so long was because they had to translate from the cryptic language to Gaelic and then to English.
Bobby left the table to tend to his household duties and left Sam and Kate at the table.
Kate hummed to herself as she worked. She translated a few lines before looking up. "What?"
Sam just studied her. "I guess you do have it figured out."
Kate shrugged and went back to the book.
It was Sam's turn to have an off feeling that he couldn't place.
Dean rolled over when his phone rang. "Hey Bobby." He said groggily.
Bobby chuckled. "I'm not meaning to interrupt your little vacation, I just want to check and see how things were going."
Dean rolled the other way and traced his fingers down Lacy's side. "Things are going great."
Bobby grumbled. "You haven't noticed any demon signs or anything?"
Dean got up and looked out the window. "I have been a little busy but nothing tried to come in last night."
Bobby shook his head. "When exactly do you plan on heading back over here? I want to debrief about last night." He heard a giggle on the other end of the line and rubbed his face. "Just let me know when you decide." He hung up the phone and chuckled to himself.
Sam met Bobby in the hallway. "She isn't translating from the code to Gaelic. She is going straight from the code to English."
Bobby pinched the bridge of his nose. "Could she be doing the middle part in her head?"
Sam held up a page. "This fast?"
Bobby took it and walked into the kitchen. He pulled the book away from Kate.
"Hey!" Kate shouted and reached for the book.
"You can't translate this that fast." Bobby said.
Kate tilted her head. "Obviously I can." She said and reached for the book.
Sam pulled her chair back. "How are you doing it?"
Kate rolled her eyes. "I don't know."
Sam reached for her hand and looked at Bobby when she pulled it away. "I just want to understand how you are translating that fast and maybe learn to do it myself."
Kate scooted back.
Bobby leveled her with a look. "Is there something you aren't telling us?"
Kate shuffled her feet. "I had a dream and when I woke up I could read."
Bobby huffed. "A dream or a vision?"
Kate shrugged and reached for the book again.
Sam held his hand out. "Show me and I can help you figure it out."
Kate groaned. "Fine."
Sam grabbed her hand and let her show him the dream. "Did you happen upon this by accident or did you go on a trip?" Sam asked, pulling his hand back.
Kate sighed. "I was tired and fell asleep."
Bobby was skeptical. "You fall asleep and just happen to figure out how to decode this book?"
Kate glared at him. "Well I guess so."
Sam sat back and crossed his arms. "You have been acting strange since we left Lacy's."
Kate rolled her eyes. "Well gee I wonder why that would be."
Sam shook his head. "You seem off and not just with the translations. I can't put my finger on it."
Kate stood up and went to leave the kitchen. She was stopped in her tracks by Bobby's firm grip.
"We aren't done here." Bobby said.
Kate sat down. "I try to do something helpful and you assume I did something wrong."
Sam looked at Bobby before speaking. "I read you. I know something is up."
Kate's face grew red in anger.
"We are on your side. We just need to work as a team. What was up with that sigil?" Sam asked.
Kate dug her nails into the palms of her hand. "It is a random stupid sigil that popped in my head. It worked. I saved you from getting your head caved in." She spat.
Sam sat back. "It did work and you did save me. That could be a useful sigil for us to know."
Kate sighed. "I'm going to my room."
Bobby touched her arm. "What is going on with you?"
Kate pulled her arm back. "Nothing! Just forget I even said anything!" She watched as both Bobby and Sam froze. She had compelled both of them at the same time and didn't know how. She grabbed the book and pages and ran from the room. She felt anger flowing through her like fire trying to escape a closed building. She told Bobby she was going outside and looked for something to cool off with. She couldn't go to the range without an adult but she didn't want to talk to any of the available adults. She couldn't throw knives without going back inside and asking to borrow them. She found some cinder blocks and used them to climb up into the loft of one of Bobby's sheds. She could be alone with her thoughts but still on the property. She closed her eyes and tried to go back to Scotland.
She arrived in the court yard and narrowly missed being hit by a cart. She looked down and realized she was bodiless. It wasn't like her normal visions where she could walk around like she would in the normal world. She shrugged. If she had a body, the people may notice her and realize she was dressed out of date. She wondered if she could even interact with the people like she had with Hellen or if she was simply seeing the images. She walked into a stable where she saw a beautiful black and white horse. She reached out to pet him but was startled when the horse crow hopped and slammed into the side of the fence.
A man ran toward the horse and proceeded to calm the beast down. "What has ye' so spooked?" The man asked in a thick accent.
Kate wasn't sure if the horse was spooked by her or if it was a coincidence. She knew that this era had something to do with Sam's book so she went back into the large house in search of answers.
Sam picked up his cup of coffee but it was empty. If he was truly tired, sometimes he would drink the coffee and forget he had done so. "Where is Kate?" He asked.
Bobby called for her. "She must still be running."
Sam stretched and looked out the back window. "I wonder when Dean is going to head back."
Bobby looked at the time. "I'll give him a call."
Dean groaned when his phone went off again. "Is something wrong Bobby?"
Bobby grumbled. "I am just touching base with you this morning."
Dean grunted. "You just called me."
Bobby furrowed his brows. "I haven't talked to you this morning."
Dean sighed. "Lacy can tell you. Can't you Lacy?"
Lacy giggled. "You called earlier."
"See, we are still fine and I will be back before too long." Dean said cheerfully.
Bobby shook his head. "Alright." He hung up the phone and set it on the table.
Sam looked concerned. "What did he say?"
"He said I already called him this morning but I think I may have interrupted something and he wanted to get me off the phone." Bobby said with a smirk.
Sam ran his fingers through his hair. "Leave it to Dean to make the best of a bad situation." He got up and put his mug in the sink. He washed the dishes and put them in a strainer to dry. "I am going to work on chores."
Bobby nodded and waved him away.
Kate looked through the rooms for anything that could point her to the book or who wrote it. She found a library and took her time browsing the old books. Some were even old or that time period. A young woman walked into the room and looked around herself before stooping to place something under a false floor board. Kate waited for her to leave and went to retrieve it. She pulled the board up and found a small box with similar engraving as the book. She opened it and found an intricate cross. She furrowed her brows. She heard foot steps and put the cross back where she found it. She didn't want to be caught by something like she had been with Hellen.
When Kate opened her eyes, her body was starting to ache. She saw that the shadows had moved, which meant time had went by. She jumped down from the loft and went back inside.
"Hey Katie." Bobby said from his desk. "Did you walk instead of run?"
Kate shrugged. "I'm tired."
Bobby smiled warmly and told her to go rest.
Kate couldn't rest though. A pang of guilt spread through her chest at the thought of compelling Sam and Bobby. She hadn't truly meant to compel them and had never done so with two people at once. The power surge was fading slightly and what was once pure power was turning to anger. She needed to calm down and confess what had happened but part of her brain was fighting her. Why should she? Why should she feel bad for being able to do stuff they couldn't? She was given a gift and it was stupid not to use it. She got an idea and pulled out the box of stuff that her dad had found on her family. She carefully searched the old documents and pictures for anything that might spark her interest. She knew that her mom's family had a Scottish bloodline but she wasn't sure how far back the bloodline ran. She held a paper in her hand with some notes about a family home in Scotland. She wondered if that could be the place in her dreams. It would make sense that the connection would attached to the small bit of Scottish blood she had. She memorized the information on the page and went back.
She found herself back in the house. She was pleased with how easily it was to travel back and forth. She went outside and looked for any kind of marking that would let her know who owned the house. She frowned when she couldn't find a name. She went back inside and listened to conversations, trying to pick up anything that could point her in a useful direction. She was standing in a long hallway when someone grabbed her hand. She startled and looked from the hand to the person it belonged to. "You can see me?" Kate looked into the eyes of someone who seemed oddly familiar.
"I can and you can see me." The girl replied.
Kate followed her out into the courtyard, to a spot under a tree. "Who are you?"
The girl smiled. "My name is Ada."
Kate relaxed. "My name is Kate."
Ada studied Kate. "Why are you here?"
Kate furrowed her brows. "I don't know. Last night I fell asleep and this is where I visit while I dream."
Ada looked around her and whispered. "You can do things with your mind?"
Kate's eyes got big.
Ada placed a small hand on Kate's. "I can as well. I don't know how you only visited last night. I have seen you for weeks."
Kate crossed her legs and rested her elbows on her legs. "Are you the only one who can do things with your mind?"
Ada shook her head. "My nan was said to have had the sight."
Kate chewed her fingers. "It must run in your family."
Ada hung her head. "No one must know."
Kate grimaced. "They don't like that much here I'm guessing."
Ada frowned. "They think it is an evil thing."
Kate thought of the papers she had looked at and why she had found this girl. "Do you think.. do you think maybe we are family?"
Ada smiled. "Aye' you have the mark."
Kate scooted back. "What mark?"
Ada rolled her sleeve and pointed to a birth mark on her wrist.
Kate looked at her own. "This is just a birth mark."
Ada got closer. "The female babies born in my family some times have this mark. I think that those who do, have the sight."
Kate's mouth dropped open. That must be why her abilities are so much stronger than Sam's. She had it in her blood.
Ada looked up as someone walked toward her. She hid her face and whispered that she must go.
Kate stood up and took several steps back as a man approached.
Ada smiled and took the man's hand. She glanced back at Kate and walked away.
Kate opened her eyes and bounced her legs. She didn't know if the information was true. She looked back over the pages to see if Ada's name was on any of the papers. She couldn't find Ada but found three names that could have that as a nickname. She heard the door open and looked up. "Hey, Sam."
Sam sat down in the floor with her. "What are you looking at?"
Kate smiled. "I am just looking at family stuff."
Sam rested his head on his hand and looked at some of the documents. He looked at the young girl in front of him and tried to read her demeanor. She looked happy, sorting through who her family was. He bit the inside of his cheek and felt pain in his heart. He had a suspicion that he didn't want confirmed.

Ten minutes earlier.
Dean had just gotten out of the shower when Lacy handed him his phone. He saw Sam's name and rolled his eyes. "Sammy, I'm coming back. I just wanted to make good use of this room before checkout." He said and smirked at Lacy.
Sam cringed. "I think something is wrong."
Dean pulled his pants on and grabbed his shirt. "What kind of something is wrong?"
Sam was disoriented. "I don't know."
Dean ran the towel over his hair. "You don't know?"
Sam leaned on the porch railing and read the paper in his hand. "I found a note."
Dean sat on the bed to put his shoes on. "Are we going to play 20 questions?"
Sam rubbed his head. "Dean, it is in my handwriting."
Dean stopped and listened. "Go on."
"I wrote a note to myself." Sam said.
"What does this note say?" Dean asked, lightly.
Sam read the note out loud. "She compelled you."
Dean groaned. "That is all it says?"
Sam sighed. "It has my signature. It is my handwriting. I just don't remember when or why I wrote it."
Dean looked at Lacy. "Uh, look Sammy, I'm going to take Lacy home and I'll be over." He walked out to his car while Lacy was finishing getting ready. "Hey, Sammy?"
"Yeah, Dean?" Sam said.
"Go find her. Play it safe. See if you can figure out what is going on. Put the note in your pocket." Dean kicked the tire and hung up the phone. He knew life had gotten complicated when he was hoping that Sam had lost time by demonic possession and not by being compelled.
"Did you get everything?" Lacy asked before shutting the motel door.
Dean grinned. "I didn't bring much."
Lacy grinned back and shut the door. She got in the passenger seat of the car and put her feet on the dashboard.
Dean playfully swatted them away. He leaned over and gave her a kiss before driving toward her house. He double checked the house to make sure that all demonic signs were gone. He kissed her again before going back to the car. His phone buzzed and he answered it. "Hey, Sammy. Did you figure it out?"
Sam was confused. "Did I figure what out?"
Dean made a beeline for Bobby's house. "Check your pocket."
Sam reached into his pocket and pulled out a note. "It is a note." He read it.
Dean took the silence as a signal that Sam was caught up. "Put it back in your pocket. Go to Bobby's office and find the vervain."
Sam followed the order although he was still confused. "Now what?"
"Heat water, put it in the water and drink it like tea. Now. Give Bobby some as well." Dean felt his own anger building.
"Do you think Kate is a vampire?" Sam asked.
Dean chuckled. "Boy, she scrambled you." He hoped that the confusion wasn't permanent. "Vervain can help against compulsion against vampires. I figured we'd give it a try and see if it works before I try to talk to her. I don't know what she got herself into but it isn't good."
Sam brewed the tea and poured two cups. He took one to Bobby. "Dean says to drink this."
Bobby looked up. "What is it?"
Sam handed the phone to Bobby.
"Bobby, it looks like we have a situation on our hands. Miss Kate seems to have compelled Sam into forgetting something at least twice. I'm almost home but I'm hoping the vervain works the same way it does with vampires so she doesn't try to compel me too." Dean said.
Bobby sighed. He quickly sipped the warm liquid and grimaced at the taste. "So Sam and I are guinea pigs in this little experiment?"
Dean sighed. "I don't think I'm the one running an experiment here."
Bobby looked toward the stairs. "What is your plan?"
"I'm going to wait at the drive way until I have some feedback. One of you go upstairs and mention something about knowing something is up. The other one of you will stay downstairs to report. If she gives an order and you aren't compelled by it, act like you are anyway." Dean said.
Bobby glanced at Sam. "I'll go since you have dealt with it a time or two today." He didn't like the feeling he had growing in his chest.
Kate was still looking at photos when Bobby walked in. She smiled but that quickly faded when she saw his face.
Bobby watched her face change. "Are you avoiding us?"
Kate shook her head. "No, why?"
Bobby put on his best stern expression. "I know something is up with you and I want you to come downstairs."
Kate rolled her eyes. "Go away and forget about it."
Bobby turned on his heel and went back down the stairs.
Sam's eyes were wide and worried when he walked back into the office. "So?"
Bobby reached for the phone. "It worked."
"Make me a cup and I'll be in." Dean said and pulled the car into the drive way.
They talked in hushed tones about what they were going to do.
Sam had a feeling that, although Kate was making the choice to hide something, he didn't think that she was thinking clearly. He felt something was different.
Dean drank the vervain and gave it a few minutes to kick in.
Kate heard the door open again and was happy to see Dean. "How is Lacy?"
Dean smiled. "She is good. She got some good sleep and is back at home. She thinks she had a bad dream and had a panic attack."
Kate sighed. "I had to tell her something."
Dean nodded. "She is safe."
Kate put the papers and pictures back in the box. "Now we can talk to Evan."
Dean shook his head. "Not yet."
Kate looked at him. "Why?"
Dean studied her for a moment. "Because we need to have a talk."
Kate swallowed. "About what?"
"See, Bobby called me because he thought something might be off with you. He thought that last night may have messed with you." Dean said.
Kate eyed him carefully. "It was scary."
Dean tsked. "I bet it was but you drew that sigil and the demons just vanished."
Kate didn't like where Dean's focus was. "I got lucky."
Dean waited in silence because he knew it made her more antsy. "We are going to go downstairs and discuss where that sigil came from and what ever else you have going on today."
"No." Kate whined and stepped back.
Dean stood up and held out his hand. "Downstairs." He said and pointed toward the door.
Kate balled up her fists and growled in frustration. She was tired of having to compel everyone. Why couldn't they just leave her alone?
Dean crossed his arms. "One. Two."
Kate glared at him. "This is bullshit." she caught the fire in his eyes and quickly added. "Leave me alone. Go downstairs and forget talking to Bobby."
Dean paused and looked at her. "What did you just say to me?"
Kate's mouth dropped open and her eyes got wide. "Uh oh."
