Taylor tilted his hand toward the others.
"When did that get there?" Bobby asked.
Taylor opened and closed his hand. "I don't know."
Kate grimaced. "That looks painful."
Bobby grabbed the first aid kit and cleaned Taylor's hand. "The skin is intact."
Taylor held his hand closer to his face. "It is like a bunch of welts."
Kate got a closer look at his hand and sat against the wall with her head in her hands.
Dean sat down beside her. "What is it?"
Kate held up her own hand. "I wrote on my hand earlier and washed it away."
Dean was confused for a moment. "You think you somehow did that to his hand?"
Kate shrugged. "I don't know. It is a little too on the nose to be a coincidence."
Taylor sat across from her. "I don't think you did it but even if you did, it wasn't on purpose."
Kate gave him a weak smile. "Does it hurt?"
Taylor shrugged. "Not bad. Kinda just feels like I slapped something."
Kate rested her head on Dean's shoulder. "The impala, Bobby's house, Taylor's hand, what is next?"
Bobby was thinking the same thing. "I'd say what ever did this wants us to get that particular message."
Dean glanced toward the stairs. "I want to know what is out there."
Taylor felt his palm with his fingers. "I'm guessing it isn't a demon."
Bobby shook his head. "No, at least not any kind I've seen."
Kate huffed. "Not like we have seen the thing in the first place."
Taylor squinted his eyes. "The sound outside was the same that was at the park."
Dean looked at him. "Well that is something to go off of."
"The sound could be related to the symbols." Kate said.
"I was starting to think that myself." Bobby said.
Dean ran up and grabbed the notes. "I guess we need to crack this thing."
Kate leaned her head back against the wall. "I have tried. We have tried. We have no leads. We can't find out what kind of language this is."
Taylor sighed. "Maybe it is a mirror image?"
Bobby handed him a small mirror.
Taylor held it up to his hand. "Yeah that doesn't seem to help."
Kate ran her fingers along the duct tape. "If it wanted to hurt us, it could have."
Dean eyed her. "I'd say those welts on Taylor's hand qualify as hurting."
Kate rolled her eyes. "It could have destroyed the car and the house. It could have carved the letters into Taylor's hand but it didn't. We were alone at the park and it could have taken both of us out but it didn't."
Dean cleared his throat. "Your eyes are going to roll right out of your head one of these days." He rubbed his forehead. "It could be waiting on something."
Kate huffed. "Yeah, for us to figure out this stupid message."
Dean tapped her leg. "We are on the same side here."
"It seems like my bracelet is in the way. This thing is just going to keep trying to make us figure out the message." Kate said.
Dean took a deep breath. "Taking it off is dangerous right now. We don't know what is out there."
Taylor spoke up. "I'll know if she overloads or something bad is going on."
Dean shot him a glare.
Taylor's eyes got big. "Uh, I mean if you decide to go that route."
Bobby wasn't keen on unleashing Kate. "What is keeping it out of the house?"
Kate shrugged. "Maybe it is like a vampire and has to have permission to come in."
Bobby pulled his phone out to call John but he had no signal.
Dean looked at his phone as well. "Mine is out too."
They brainstormed for a while and were running out of options.
"I could alert John." Kate said.
Dean shook his head. "Not with the bracelet on."
Kate groaned. "My point exactly."
Dean asked Bobby for a minute. "Bobby, what do we do? We can't let her go at this thing."
Bobby was stumped. "If she could get word out to John or Sam they might be able to help."
Dean closed his eyes. "Do you think that she will just do that and not get swept up in what ever is outside?"
Bobby rubbed his head. "Talk to her. She learned a hard lesson about that."
Dean helped Kate stand up. "Come with me."
Kate eyed him apprehensively but followed.
"What is going through your head?" Dean asked.
Kate stared at him.
"You are being snarky. That means you have something you want to say." Dean said.
Kate sighed. "I'm just frustrated."
Dean nodded. "We all are. Yellow card me."
Kate chose her words carefully. "This is connected to me. Everything hinges on me. I don't think the thing wants to hurt me. I think it wants to talk to me. They could have useful information. If it is trying to talk to me and I keep ignoring it, I'm afraid others will get hurt. I know you don't trust me. That is fair but do you honestly have any other idea?"
Dean studied her. "I don't have another idea. This is far beyond anything I have dealt with."
Kate rested her head on her hand. "I'll follow directions."
Dean wanted to believe her. "What happens if you see something that is too interesting to walk away from?"
Kate frowned. "I want to earn your trust back."
"I don't think this is the thing to attempt that with." Dean said.
"Please Dean. Let me alert someone." Kate pleaded.
Dean rubbed his temples. "Kate."
"I'm not on demon power. I learned my lesson." Kate added.
Dean sighed and led her back to Bobby and Taylor. "She is going to take the bracelet off long enough to let Sam know what is going on."
Bobby bit back his own opinions.
Taylor looked at Kate. "I can make sure you don't get sucked in."
Kate gave him a weak smile. "Okay." She sat down on top of the work table and held her wrist out. "I just need a few seconds and you can put it back on."
Dean slowly peeled the tape away. "30 seconds and this goes back on."
Kate nodded. "Got it."
Dean pulled the tape away from her arm and fear hit him.
Kate gasped at the rush of power. She focused and reminded herself to stay on track. She closed her eyes and envisioned herself talking to Sam. She gave him details and told him to get help.
Sam was sitting in the library when the vision hit. He grabbed his head and gritted his teeth. It lasted just a few seconds before it went away. He was out of breath and quickly packed his stuff into his bag. He walked swiftly out of the library and called John.
Kate opened her eyes and held out her arm.
Dean quickly put the bracelet back on. "You okay?"
Kate held her head. "Yes. I think it worked." She hoped it did. She was overwhelmed with how hard it was to stay on track when she was being pulled in a different direction. "The whispers were loud."
Dean let her rest her head on his chest.
Taylor was starting to pace. "You are afraid of Kate getting overloaded. That doesn't happen with me. I can handle the whisper stuff. The papers did come to my house, not here."
Bobby put his hand on Taylor's shoulder. "We can't do anything until we are able to reach your parents."
Taylor felt sick. "I'm supposed to be home."
Bobby sighed. "We will handle it when we get out of here."
Kate sat up. "We aren't locked in. The doors open."
Dean tensed up. "With sharks circling."
Kate wanted to argue but Taylor's presence made her bite her tongue. "I handled contacting Sam. I could work in small bursts."
Dean and Bobby were both defeated.
Taylor took Kate's hand and squeezed it. "We will figure it out."
Kate gave him a small smile and furrowed her brows. "I'm guessing my arm burning isn't a good sign."
Dean turned around. "What do you mean burning."
Kate scratched at the tape. "Ow!"
Dean peeled back part of the tape. "No, I don't think that is a good sign." He prodded the blistered skin. "I need to know if you are doing this."
Kate glared at him. "I told you I wasn't doing it."
Dean sighed. "I wont get mad."
Kate teared up. "I promise I'm not controlling this." She winced as her arm stung. "If I was doing it I wouldn't scald my wrist."
Dean poured cold water over the skin. He was worried. "So I guess we don't have a choice on the bracelet situation. It looks like it is coming off anyway."
Kate felt the tingle of power building up in her body. "I'm sorry."
Dean pulled her to his chest. "Just stay with me."
That pit of Taylor's grew as well.
Dean saw him double over and shot a look to Bobby.
The wind outside picked back up and shook the windows.
Kate was scared and buried her face in Dean's shirt.
Taylor covered his ears but the high pitched whine was too loud to escape.
The whine hit Bobby and Dean as well and caused them to all hold their heads.
Kate heard the whispers building again and grabbed Taylor's hand. She grabbed handcuffs and put one on her wrist and another on Dean's.
Dean felt the metal around his arm and looked at her with confusion. "What are you doing?"
Kate yelled over the whine. "Making sure I can't go rogue."
Dean was disoriented by the sound. "If the son of a bitch wants to talk, it could do so without screaming."
Kate pulled him and Taylor toward the stairs.
Taylor opened the front door and walked out onto the porch. The trees were whipping around with the wind and the dust stung his eyes. "Kate!"
Kate managed to breech the door with Dean and the whine turned to pure whispers. "I don't understand." Kate said to Taylor.
Taylor took her hand. "What is that?"
Dean squinted as a bright light engulfed the salvage yard. It was like looking into the sun.
Kate saw something moving within the light. She tried to step off the porch.
Dean pulled her back. "I'm pretty sure all the books say not to go into the light."
Kate looked at Taylor and nodded her head.
Taylor felt an icy stream hit his hand and travel throughout his body. "What are you doing?"
Kate shook her head.
Dean was too overwhelmed by the sound and light to look at either of them.
Kate calmed herself down and searched for a solution. The light wasn't getting closer but the sound was getting louder. She was worried about Dean's ears. She closed her eyes and it felt like she was leaving her body.
Suddenly the sound stopped and Dean wondered if his eardrums had burst. He couldn't open his eyes due to the light but could feel that Kate was still attached to him.
Kate opened her eyes and saw something moving from the light. "Taylor, do you see this."
Taylor was awestruck. "What is it?"
"I- I don't know." She felt a familiar warmth growing in her body. Was it peace? She awkwardly stepped forward. "Uh, if you want to talk, I'll listen. I don't understand what the writing means."
Taylor pulled her hand. "You think talking to it is going to help?"
Kate shrugged. "It can't hurt."
The sound returned and shattered the light on Bobby's porch. Dean stumbled and tried to pull Kate back into the house.
Kate pulled against him and pleaded with her eyes. She mouthed the word "Wait."
Dean felt like his brain was being shaken.
Taylor let go of Kate's hand and stepped off the porch. He tilted his head and squinted.
Dean was going to grab Taylor and pull him back when the light engulfed both kids. He swore. "God dammit."
Kate looked around her and there was nothing but light. "Taylor?"
Taylor grabbed her hand. "Here."
She pulled the hand that was handcuffed to Dean. There was resistance and she panicked not knowing where Dean was.
Bobby ran out of the house and was nearly blinded by the light. He put his hands on Dean.
The light brightened and pulsed. Bobby turned and covered Dean's face with his body. He covered his own eyes and suddenly the light was gone.
Dean's ears were ringing and his eyes were blurry. He rolled onto his knees and tried to regain his wits.
Bobby was in much of the same shape. He remembered the kids and turned back to where the ball of light had been.
Dean couldn't see and was caught off guard when Kate fell on top of him.
She wrapped her arms around him and cried. "Dean!"
He awkwardly wrapped his free arm around her.
Taylor put his hand down for Bobby to grab.
Bobby accepted the help up. He could see Taylor's mouth moving but couldn't make out what he was saying.
Taylor and Kate helped the other two inside.
Dean tripped over the side table and brought Kate down with him.
Kate groaned. "Taylor, get the keys for these before he kills me."
Taylor ran and got the keys. "Here."
Kate removed the cuffs and brought water to both Dean and Bobby.
Dean took a few minutes to clear his head. "What was that?"
Kate shrugged. "We don't know."
Dean shot a glance at Taylor. "You stepped off the porch."
Taylor's eyes got wide. "I was being pulled into the light."
Dean held his head as it pulsed.
Kate left and then returned with two beers. "Rest."
Taylor and Kate stepped to the side and discussed what had happened. They had been trapped in a dome of light with the whispers but hadn't truly seen what caused it. They couldn't translate the whispers to English but had received understanding.
Bobby felt like he was returning to his normal condition. "Either of you want to explain?"
Kate opened her mouth and then shut it again. "I don't think we know how to."
Dean rubbed the back of his neck. "Try."
Kate shrugged at Taylor. "I don't know exactly what it wanted or what it even did but it didn't hurt us. It didn't break the cuffs. There were movements in the light but we couldn't really see what it was. The whispers still do not make sense but I think we understand the message."
"The one on my car?" Dean asked.
Taylor nodded. "It is a date or something."
"It is numbers?" Bobby clarified.
Taylor grabbed a sheet of paper and wrote down the numbers.
"All of that for numbers." Dean grumbled.
Kate shifted from one foot to the other. "Not just numbers."
Dean sighed. "What else?"
Kate grimaced and pulled something from her pocket. "This."
Bobby took it from her. "What is it?"
Kate rubbed her eyes. "I don't know. It was tossed on the ground at my feet."
Taylor held up held his necklace up as well. "I got one too."
Dean huffed. "What is this, mardi gras?"
Bobby held the chain and pendant closer to the light. "It kind of looks like that locket. These are empty vials though."
Kate gave Dean a nervous look. "I'm not sure if this needs to be a red card moment."
Dean's face darkened. "Speak."
Kate shot Taylor a look and Taylor grimaced.
"They weren't empty when we got them." Kate said.
Dean stood up. "Come again."
Taylor stepped in front of Kate. "Wait, wait. We didn't open them. We didn't even really pick them up. Mine felt like it was on a fishing line. It wound up in my hand and this white stuff spilled out."
Dean sat back down. "Then what?"
"Uh it melted?" Kate tried to explain.
Bobby sighed. "Talk faster."
Kate held up her hand. The residue was still visible.
"Where did it go, Katelyn?" Dean pushed.
Kate stammered. "I think.. I think.. in.. through my skin."
Dean could see the fear on her face and pulled her to him and wrapped his arms around her. "You too?" He asked Taylor.
Taylor nodded.
"How do you feel?" Dean asked Kate.
Kate mumbled something.
Dean squeezed her. "Brat, I'm asking if it was like the demon stuff. Do you feel different."
Kate shook her head. "No."
Taylor shrugged. "Me either."
Bobby held up his phone. "I have a signal."
A few moments later the doorknob twisted.
They startled and Sam walked through the door.
"Took you long enough." Dean said.
Sam grabbed Kate and hugged her. "I couldn't get here. The car just stopped working for a few minutes and then started right back up. I called dad."
Kate was glad Sam was okay.
Bobby called John as well and caught him up. He walked out into the yard and looked at the house. "Huh, it is all gone."
Dean stepped out as well. "I guess the thing got the message across."
Kate didn't let go of Sam. She was scared.
Taylor remembered his parents and called his mom. She was worried and upset that he hadn't called.
Dean helped Taylor smooth things over with his mom and explain why he couldn't call.
Kate's adrenaline rush was fading and she let tears fall.
Sam felt the sobs shake her shoulders. "Hey, what is wrong?"
Kate tried to choke out what was on her mind but couldn't.
Sam picked her up and carried her to the couch. "Breathe."
Taylor sat on the coffee table. He hated seeing her cry. "Are you hurting?"
Kate shook her head. She hyperventilated and couldn't stop crying.
Sam rubbed her back and gave her some water. "Let it out."
Kate sobbed until she was too tired to cry anymore.
Sam let her slump over and rest her head on his leg. He copied Dean's technique and got her to fall asleep.
Taylor was at a loss.
Dean cleared his throat. "Walk with me."
Taylor shot Sam a worried look.
They walked out onto the porch.
"Start talking." Dean said.
Taylor forced himself to remain calm. "I don't know anymore."
"What part of stay on the porch didn't get through your head?" Dean asked.
Taylor froze. "I'm not making an excuse. I just don't know how to describe it. I felt like I didn't have control of my own body. I have never felt or seen anything like that."
Dean could see the honesty in Taylor's face. "Are you certain that you two had no choice about those vials?"
Taylor held up his hand. "Scout's honor. I was not going to pick it up. I have no idea what it was and would never take a chance like that."
Dean narrowed his eyes. "Do you feel anything?"
Taylor shook his head. "No, sir."
Dean ran his fingers through his hair. "Why is she so upset?"
Taylor's face fell. "I don't know. I wish I did."
Dean nodded his head. "I'm done grilling you. I just want to know what happened."
Taylor relaxed. "I would never let anything happen to her or do anything to enable her to hurt herself."
Dean smirked. "Good." He opened the door and ushered Taylor inside. "Is she asleep?"
Sam nodded. "Cried herself to sleep."
Dean sighed. "Maybe try reading her."
Sam grimaced. He put his hand on her and tried to see inside her mind. He frowned deeply and opened his eyes.
"What is it?" Dean asked.
Sam carefully shifted away from her so he could pull Bobby and Dean into the other room. "She is scared."
Dean nodded. "I think we all are."
Sam shook his head. "No. She is seeing herself doing all these different things like when she compelled us under the demon influence. She is scared of turning bad or hurting one of us."
Dean groaned. "That is why she was crying?"
"She feels guilty." Sam said.
Dean wanted to wrap her in a hug and never let go. "Did you see what the stuff was?"
"No. I just saw what she is thinking about." Sam said.
"Poor kid." Bobby said.
Taylor's dad called and wanted him to go home.
Bobby wasn't sure that was a good idea but couldn't argue with the man. "Son, if you need one of us to come get you, just call."
Taylor frowned. "I didn't do anything wrong."
Dean squeezed his shoulder. "If he is anything like my dad, he isn't mad at you, he is mad that something got to you."
Taylor shrugged one shoulder.
Dean went out to his car and stopped. "Huh."
Taylor stopped beside him. "What is it?"
Dean ran his fingers down the side of baby's door. "Maybe that thing isn't evil after all."
Taylor got a closer look and scratched his head.
Dean raised an eyebrow. "I couldn't have done a better job detailing her myself."
Taylor smiled. "Maybe it is a peace offering."
Dean shrugged and opened the door.
Dean dropped Taylor off and grabbed diner food. He drove back to Bobby's and checked on Kate.
Kate rolled over. "French fries?"
Dean smiled. "You hungry?"
Kate sat up. "Starving."
Bobby relaxed when he saw the twinkle in her eye.
They ate and avoided the topic that weighed so heavily on each of them.
Kate felt normal. She didn't feel grumpy or have a desire to slap anyone. She counted those as good signs. "Can we roll?"
Dean looked at her. "Need to blow off steam?"
Kate smiled. "So do you."
Bobby told them to go ahead and he'd clean up dinner.
Sam sat down on one of the cars and watched Kate and Dean.
Dean dodged her and knocked her feet from under her.
Kate hit the ground. "Stop doing that!"
Dean laughed. "Stop falling for it"
Kate got up and went at him again. She got a few good hits in before taking a drink of water. "If I ever get in a real fight I'm going to have so much fun."
Dean gently smacked her head. "The other person wont be as nice as me."
Kate put the water bottle down and tried to kick at him. "You aren't nice."
Dean missed her foot but got an elbow to the ribs.
Kate grinned. "Ha, got ya."
Dean rubbed his side. "You have knives for elbows."
Kate shrugged. "I take the advantages I can get."
Dean let her fight him until she got tired. "You should sleep well."
Sam laughed. "Looks like you will too."
Dean took a drink of his water but saw Kate out of the corner of his eye.
Kate saw the counter attack and corrected herself but still caught Dean's knee with hers. She stumbled and fell back onto a pile of scrap. Her eyes got wide. "Ow." She whispered.
Dean threw the water down. He felt down her back and pulled his hand away when he hit moisture. "Shit."
Sam jumped off the car and ran over. "How bad is it?"
Dean sat her forward slowly to make sure he didn't injure something. He saw the piece of metal that she fell on. He felt down her back and grimaced at the large tear in her shirt.
"Are you okay?" Sam said and cupped Kate's face.
Bobby saw what had happened and ran outside.
Dean pulled the back of Kate's shirt up and sucked in a huge breath. He felt horrible. "Hey, you're okay."
Bobby rinsed the cut off to check how much damage had been done. He turned to grab gauze and Dean caught his arm.
"Bobby." He whispered.
Bobby turned back around and watched as the skin started to close.
Sam leaned over Kate. "What is it?"
They stared at the injury.
Kate reached back. "Is it bad?"
Dean ran his fingers over his back. "Well that is new."
