Kate and Taylor quickly went into the house and ran up the stairs.
Bobby looked at Dean. "What happened?"
Dean beamed with pride. "Taylor sent a kid to the hospital."
Bobby sighed and resituated his cap. "Balls."
Dean shook his head. "Kid had it coming."
Bobby eyed him. "When you say hospital... how bad was it?"
Dean shrugged. "Taylor punched him and slammed his head into a table."
Bobby was confuse by Dean's demeanor.
"The kid approached them at lunch. He took a paper out of Kate's hand and made a spectacle of it. He said stuff like they were going to burn down this house and run. He also may have made a comment that the only reason they get to stay here is so you can play priest." Dean said.
Bobby slammed his fist on his desk. "What?"
"I told you, he deserved it. He shoved Kate and when she fell, her dress came up. She pulled it down and he tried to pull it back up. I think that is when Taylor stepped in." Dean said.
Bobby was livid. "God damned kids these days. He shoved her to the ground?"
Dean nodded. "That is the general consensus. I told the principal I'd 'handle it' at home."
Caleb had been listening. "Dean, I know you are doing the whole parenting thing like John but he was defending her."
Dean laughed. "A while back, Kate wailed on a boy for pulling her friend's dress up. You know what dad did?"
Caleb shook his head. "What?"
"He took her to get ice cream." Dean said.
Caleb furrowed his brows. "Man she did a number on him."
Dean grinned. "I am pretty sure he'd have the same reaction to this. He excused fighting as long as it didn't bring too much attention or if it was for a good reason. Sadly, I had a tendency to fight someone for looking at me wrong."
Taylor walked down the stairs and stopped as he reached the edge of the living room.
Caleb looked at him. "Dean tells us you clobbered a kid today."
Taylor blushed. "Uh, yes, sir."
Caleb scoffed. "Don't call me that. I'm not 50."
Dean poked his head out of the office. "They agreed the twerp had it coming."
Taylor relaxed. "I lost control of how hard I hit him though."
Dean stepped out of the office and approached Taylor. "How many times did you hit him?"
"Once and I made him hit the table." Taylor said.
Dean shrugged. "Seems controlled to me."
"I could have killed him." Taylor said with a deep sigh.
"And you didn't. Look, if you want me to get mad over this, I can act mad. However, I'd prefer to thank you for standing up for Kate and get a treat on our way to Kansas." Dean said.
Taylor gave him a small smile. "I prefer treats too."
"Good." Dean said. His bag was already packed so he put it in the impala. He had taken a few things out of the trunk to make room for bags. Bobby would ride with Caleb until they parted ways so it wouldn't be cramped for the first leg of the trip.
Kate zipped her duffle and said goodbye to each kitten. She had placed extra food and water in multiple parts of the house. She put her duffle beside Deans and sat the pillows and blankets in the back.
"Why are you bringing all that?" Dean asked.
"So I can sleep on the floor when we get a motel." Kate said.
Dean shrugged. "Fair." He put Taylor's bag in the back when he brought it out. "Are we good to go?"
Bobby did a final check on the house and gave a thumbs up.
Taylor was worried what state Luis was in. Even though everyone agreed that the punch was deserved, Taylor had caused injury to another person. It had happened so quickly that he didn't realize what he had done until he heard Kate's voice. Were people going to think he was some kind of barbarian? He was known for being nice but was his reputation going to be destroyed? Were people talking about Kate's scars? He was tired of being in the spot light.
Dean drove out of town and followed Bobby and Caleb as they drove to an ice cream shop.
Kate looked out the window and smiled. The shop looked like it was from the 50s. The waitress had on a poodle skirt and her hair was tied in a ribbon. She was really pretty and had a bounce to her step.
Caleb and Dean both noticed that she was attractive. Dean had to remind himself that he had a girlfriend but Caleb had no such qualms.
Kate and Taylor exchanged amused glances.
Kacey, the waitress asked what they wanted and helped the person behind the counter whip up the order. She checked on their table frequently and chatted happily.
Caleb had wooed Kasey and planned on getting her number. He was headed out of town but would be back.
Kate thought Caleb was rather pathetic. One pretty girl and he was as helpless as Dean was.
Kasey returned to the table to take the empty dishes.
Kate used the restroom and was approached by the waitress on her way back.
"Are they your brothers?" She asked.
Kate felt a spark of mischief. "Those two are. That is our uncle and the other guy is my brother's partner." She saw Kasey's face fall briefly.
"Oh." Kasey said and recovered herself. "Well your family is very nice."
Kate returned to the table and smiled to herself.
Bobby paid the bill and Caleb stood up so he could go talk to Kacey.
Kate smirked. "I wouldn't ask for her number."
Caleb looked at her. "Why not?"
"Because she thinks you are Dean's partner." Kate said.
Caleb and Dean shared a look. "How'd she get that idea, Kate?" Dean asked.
Kate grinned.
Caleb blinked, dumbfounded. "Dean, I take back what I said about her not being evil."
Kate giggled.
Dean eyed her. "Are you trying to get him added to the list?" He asked, lightly.
Kate gasped. "No!"
Caleb didn't know what that meant but liked that Dean seemed to have gotten a bit of payback. He wasn't actually upset about the prank. He just wasn't expecting it. More so, he wasn't expecting her to come up with something on the fly. He chuckled. "She's spent too much time with you, Dean."
Dean felt a bit of pride. "As far as pranks went, she had been on a roll."
Bobby held the door open for everyone. "So, Dean, do you want the kids to ride with me?"
Dean tilted his head. "Why?"
Bobby smirked. "So you and Caleb can have alone time."
Dean and Caleb both scoffed. "Dammit Bobby." Dean groaned.
"Taylor, I don't see how you live with these people." Caleb said.
Taylor smiled. "I stay neutral when a prank war breaks out."
Caleb had been caught between Sam and Dean a time or two. "Smart man."
"Alright, boys and brat. We need to get this show on the road." Dean said.
Kate put her hands on her hips. "Excuse me."
Dean ruffled her hair.
Kate swatted his hands away. "Stop! You'll mess it up."
Dean grinned and got into the car.
Kate mumbled. "Gentlemen and jerk is more like it."
Dean chuckled. "I heard that."
Kate patted his shoulder. "You were supposed to."
Taylor put his hands up to signify that he wanted no part in the bickering.
Dean nodded his head at Caleb to let him know they could get back on the road. "You know, I excused Taylor for hitting that kid but I don't think I excused you from not walking away."
Kate's eyes got big. "I did try to walk away. I said one thing to him and that's it." She caught Dean's eyes in the rearview mirror and saw the crinkles around his eyes. "Ugh, you jerk. Don't do that."
Dean turned the music up. "Shh, no talking."
Kate took her notebook out. She liked banter. Her joke was harmless and she wasn't as conflicted about the Luis situation. She did wonder if people were going to ask questions about her leg. There was no way that no one saw it. The scars were very noticeable.
Bobby pulled his phone out and called the school. He wanted to know if they had any updates on Luis. He didn't worry so much about the kid as what the parents would do if he was badly injured. There were enough witnesses to prove that Luis moved first but he didn't know if that would be enough. "Hello, This is Robert Singer. I am Kate and Taylor's guardian. I was wondering if you have heard anything from the hospital."
Mrs. Ray had gotten a message from Luis's mother that his nose and cheek bone were broken. He had a concussion from his head hitting the table and got a few stitches.
Bobby sighed. "I'm guessing they will want to press charges."
Mrs. Ray was trying to be unbiased. "I'd say if they do, attacking a little girl would bring charges too."
Bobby caught her drift. "Thank you, ma'am. Is there anything I need to do?"
Mrs. Ray checked paperwork. "No, Dean signed everything when he picked them up."
Bobby thanked her again and hung up the phone. "Balls." he grumbled.
Caleb looked away from the road. "How bad is it?"
"Stitches, broken bones. The works." Bobby said.
Caleb hissed. "Kid has an arm on him."
Bobby nodded. "He is a good kid though. He wouldn't have done anything had the kid not touched Kate. I sure hope this doesn't come back to him."
Caleb could see how much Bobby cared. "You managed to keep Dean out of jail for all his fights. I'd say you can manage this."
Bobby chuckled. "That was years ago. Schools don't handle fighting as well as they did." He leaned his head back and took a deep breath. Even if charges were pressed, they'd handle it.

Taylor's phone stared the melodic dinging that let him know he was getting a call. "Nana?"
Marie chuckled. "Hi sweetie."
Taylor furrowed his brows.
Dean turned the music off. "I told her to call."
Taylor felt better having that part of the puzzle pieced together. She normally wouldn't call during school hours. "Hi."
"I heard you had a rough day." Marie said in a warm tone.
Taylor's shoulders slumped. "I hurt someone."
Dean hated that he still sounded defeated.
Marie heard the sadness in his voice too. "Why'd you do that?"
Taylor told her the story about what happened in the lunch room.
Marie was suddenly very irritated with her other grandson. "I will be talking to David about this. That is inappropriate."
Taylor sighed. "Please just let it go."
Marie clicked her tongue. "He hasn't talked to you at all?"
Taylor mumbled. "No, ma'am."
Marie couldn't comprehend how David could say things like that about Taylor and ignore his messages. They both lost a mother. They were brothers. "You are my favorite." She quipped.
Taylor let a small smile grace his lips. "Thanks nana."
"I'll start on another batch of food. You'll just have to visit to bring back those dishes. I'll talk to David. I am very proud of you." Marie said.
Taylor sighed. He didn't feel proud. "How is papa?"
Marie sighed that time. "He is using more oxygen. He's too stubborn to stay in bed."
Taylor got an idea. "What if me and Kate could heal him a little?"
Marie thought about it. "How would you explain that to him?"
Taylor tapped his fingers on his leg. "We could do it when he is asleep."
Marie chuckled. "You just worry about things out there. We can think about it when you visit."
"We found a key in great grandpa's stuff. We think it might go to a door that Dean and Jo found." Taylor said.
Marie very much wanted to meet Jo. "Is that where you are going now?"
Taylor perked up. "Yes. We decided to make a weekend of it."
Dean listened to them chat and was pleased to see the weight being lifted from Taylor's shoulders. He glanced back at Kate and chuckled. She had fallen asleep atop the pillows that she had stacked in the backseat. After Taylor ended the call with Marie, he asked him to send Sam a message asking him to call when he got a free moment. He wondered how much time Sam spent on the phone between the four of them.
Taylor typed up the message and sent it. He looked back at Kate and grinned. "She is asleep."
Dean nodded. "I saw. She has had a big day."
Taylor frowned.
Dean shook his head. "Don't. You have got to understand that you were not wrong in that situation. Sure, you might have been able to shove him back or get in between him and Kate but then he'd have hit you and would have wound up with the same result."
Taylor looked out the window. "Okay, maybe this time I'm right. I just don't want to turn into Craig."
"Craig hit kids that were defenseless." Dean said.
Taylor shrugged. "That is what I did. Luis could fight back but not very well. I'm trained and a lot stronger. It wasn't fair."
Dean flicked Taylor's leg. "The fact that you are worried over it proves that you aren't like him. I have beaten up people before. I wasn't always in the right but I am not evil. Kids say and do stupid stuff. Sometimes the only thing that stops them is another kid punching them in the mouth."
"I slammed his head against the table though." Taylor said.
Dean huffed. "Do not make me pull this car over."
Taylor's mouth dropped open. "For what?"
Dean narrowed his eyes. "We have established that you controlled yourself and acted on Kate's behalf. I have told you to stop fretting over it."
Taylor chuckled.
"You continuing to beat yourself up is basically arguing with me." Dean added.
"You are a little dysfunctional as a guardian." Taylor said with a smile.
Dean smiled back. "Still functional though."

Caleb neared his destination and pulled over. "Thanks for the car, Bobby."
Bobby nodded. "Keep her in good condition."
Caleb looked at the dints and worn interior. "Tip top shape."
Bobby took his books and switched cars. "Keep yourself safe, son."
Caleb chuckled. "I will."
Dean waved as Caleb pulled away. He nudged a groggy Taylor. "To the back."
Taylor shook his foot out as it had fallen asleep. "I could use a pit stop."
Bobby looked at the map. "There is a place up ahead we can stop at."
Taylor scooted into the backseat and managed to put Kate's feet on his lap without waking her. Part of her scar was visible and it reminded him of what Luis had done.
Kate finally woke up to Dean poking her face. "What?"
"Hop out. We are stopped to use the bathroom." Dean said.
Kate stretched. "Where are we?"
"Kansas, Toto." Taylor said.
Kate squinted her eyes. "I must have slept through most of the drive." She got out of the car and stretched again. She had lines on her face from the blankets. She used the ladies room and put some fresh water in her water bottle. She walked back out to the car to hear Dean relaying the events to John. She could tell by his tone of voice. She leaned her head against him and took a deep breath when his arm wrapped around her. She wondered if John was mad.
Dean tapped her head. "How did you know about his night time secret?"
Kate flinched. "Uh.. lucky guess?"
Dean narrowed his eyes. "Did you read him?"
Kate stepped back. "I did."
Dean scoffed and swatted her once. "Don't do that."
Kate rubbed her backside. "I thought we weren't in trouble."
Dean gave her a wink. "You left that part out."
Kate figured John wasn't upset although he had thought to ask for that detail. She got back into the car and propped some of the pillows on her lap. She wondered if a human sized pillow would fit in her room. The kittens had the fluffiest cat bed that she wasn't certain which one of the adults had bought. Some times she wished they made bigger ones.
Taylor plopped into the other seat. "Here." He handed her some dried strawberries.
Kate munched happily.
Dean and Bobby got into the car and they started driving again. As they neared the spot where the door was, Dean's phone chimed. "Hey, Sammy."
"Hey, Dean. What is wrong?" Sam assumed the message was urgent.
"We are about to see what is in that storage unit." Dean said.
"Wow, really? You are taking the key?" Sam asked.
Dean answered Sam in confirmation. He gave him the run down of the day too.
Sam was shocked. "I hope he stops bullying kids."
"If he doesn't, he and I are going to have a talk." Dean said.
Kate giggled. "You can't off every kid who is mean to one of us."
Dean looked at her in the rearview mirror. "Watch me."
Kate shifted excitedly as the car rolled to a stop. "Is this it?"
Dean nodded. "The door is right there where those stairs are. Stay in the car."
Kate wiggled. "Hurry."
Bobby got out and rested against the car. They had no idea what was behind that door and one of them needed to stay with the kids.
Dean fumbled around with his keys until he found the one he needed. He shifted his phone onto his shoulder.
"What do you think is in there?" Sam asked.
"I don't know. It doesn't look like much." Dean said. He felt a rush of excitement when the key slipped into the keyhole. He bit his cheek as he turned the key. He felt the lock stop turning and frowned. He jiggled the key and felt the lock give way and the door shift. "Well, the key works."
Sam was just as excited. He wished he was there.
Dean had to put his weight into opening the door. It hadn't been opened in a very long time. He ran his hand down the wall to look for a light switch. He sneezed from the dust. He felt something switch like and tried to turn it. A pale light flickered overhead.
Sam heard a sharp intake of breath. "Dean? What is it? Dean?"
Dean stood at the entrance of a large room. The light was very dim but he could make out that he was on a balcony and saw a large table surrounded by shelves of books.
"Dean?"
Dean regained his breath. "We found the bat cave."
Sam furrowed his brows. "Did you hit your head?"
Dean whispered. "It's the freaking bat cave, Sam."
"What do you mean?"
"I.. I don't know. I can't see that much. It is bigger than a storage room. It may be bigger than Bobby's house." Dean said. He backed out of the door. He took a deep breath and walked back to the car. "Sorry, kids. There isn't much there." He said, physically restraining himself from excitement.
Kate frowned. "Can we at least look at what is there?"
Dean nodded. "Bring flashlights." He waited outside the door as the others entered.
Sam pulled the phone away from his ear to compensate for Kate's reaction.
Dean hissed. "Bat cave."
Bobby had never seen so many books. He found another light switch and soon the room was illuminated.
Sam was overwhelmed by the silence on the other end of the line. "Dean? Is everything okay?"
Dean cleared his throat. "Sam, it's a library... I think.. I'll call you back. Kate, did you bring a camera?"
Kate nodded slowly.
"Kate will take photos and email them to you." Dean said.
Sam wished he could teleport. "Okay."
Dean hung the phone up and walked slowly down the stairs. "Kate, Taylor, stay with an adult. We don't know if this place has trip wires or anything."
Kate was in shock at the expansive room. It was more than she could have imagined.
Taylor stayed with Bobby as he made his way around the library.
"These are all lore books." Bobby said.
Dean picked up a curved sword and swung it through the air. "They've got some cool decorations too." He touched the blade and jerked his finger back. "Ow. Not a decoration."
Kate giggled. "And you were worried about us."
Dean put the sword back and continued around the room. He noticed an arch way and walked toward it. He felt along the wall and found another switch. He blinked as the hallway was illuminated. He wasn't expecting the incredibly long hallway that appeared before him. He made sure Kate was following him and went to the right. There were doors marked with numbers. He slowly opened one and was shocked to see that it was a bedroom.
Kate furrowed her brows. "Is this a hotel?"
Dean chuckled. "I don't think so. Maybe a hotel for hunters."
Kate opened another door. "Another room." They continued down the hallway until they found the kitchen and laundry room. "This place is awesome."
Dean grinned. He felt like a kid in a candy store. He covered his mouth with his hand.
Kate looked at him. "What is it? Oh! Armory!"
Bobby heard the word armory and followed Kate's voice down the hallway.
Dean opened the door and felt pure joy. The place was well stocked. "Bobby, it is beautiful."
Bobby entered the room and was just as impressed. "Just, don't grab anything yet."
Dean frowned. "But.. but that's a grenade launcher."
Bobby chuckled. "There is also a wire on it and I don't know if that is there to support the weight or to prevent theft."
Kate grinned brightly.
Taylor opened another door, farther down the hallway and flicked the light on. He froze in place and stared at the rows of cars. He spun on his heel and ran back to the armory. "I know you told us to stay with an adult but I wasn't that far away."
Dean turned to him. "What?"
Taylor bounced on his toes like Kate did. "Come."
Dean and Bobby followed him to the open door and also froze.
Bobby walked into the large garage and looked at each car. "All of these are old but in fantastic condition."
Kate had been piecing things together. "Almost like this place hasn't been opened in a couple decades." She saw a calendar on the wall. "Four decades to be exact."
"1958." Bobby said. He thought that the calendar could have been left because the owner liked the pinup photo displayed that month but judging by the layer of dust and age of the cars, 1958 seemed to be likely as a date that the doors closed for good.
Taylor ran his fingers over the hood of a car that he could see himself driving at sixteen. "So who owns this place? If we take something, is that stealing?"
Dean grinned. "You aren't old enough to drive."
Taylor blushed. "Well you drove at my age. Besides, I'm sure there are some interesting books and weapons that we could use at Bobby's house and I'd hate to be cramped in the impala."
Kate gagged. "Stop. Dean's love affair with baby is cringey enough."
Dean flicked her ear. "It isn't a love affair."
Taylor suddenly remembered the food in the car. "We brought some stuff we could cook at a motel but this place has a kitchen."
Dean rolled his eyes. "Of course you did."
Taylor raised an eyebrow. "We can't exactly order pizza from the bat cave."
Dean grinned. "Bat cave." He remembered Sam. "I have to call Sam back."
Kate shook her head. "I'll call Sammy. You call John."
Dean agreed and dialed his dad's number. "Hey, dad."
John couldn't tell what Dean was doing as his voice was a little strained. "You okay?"
Dean blew air through his nose. "We found the bat cave."
John shook his head. "Dean."
"We found some kind of fall out shelter underground. It has hundreds of books, weapons and a garage with dozens of cars. There are rooms and a kitchen. Dad, it is the bat cave." Dean said.
John had to chuckle at Dean's enthusiasm. "Is this the door you found?"
"Yes, sir. You have to come out here. There is no way I can explain this place. You just have to see it." Dean said.
John wasn't too far away as he was originally headed back to South Dakota to get his hands on the demon knife. "I'm headed that direction. Give me directions and I'll be there."
Dean explained where the bunker was. "There is a metal door under a brick arch. It doesn't look like anything much." Once he was done with the conversation he opened the hood of the car Taylor was looking at. "Well, the door isn't locked."
Taylor skidded over. "Where are the keys?"
"Hold your horses. If this has been sitting here for 40 years, it may need a tune up." Dean said.
Kate was chattering non stop to Sam. She was excited and trying to explain everything in detail. If Sam couldn't see what she saw, she could paint a mental picture. She was exploring the hallway and got a good look at the washing machine. "This thing is ancient." She pushed a button and was surprised that the thing worked. "Awesome. I can wash bedding!"
Sam chuckled. "Why would you do that?"
Kate scoffed. "Why stay in a motel when we have an underground mansion to stay in?"
Sam was teased about being motherly but clearly Kate had picked up where he left off. "Maybe during one of my breaks I can come check it out."
Kate found the others. "Which room are you choosing?"
Dean tilted his head. "What do you mean?"
Kate repeated her reasoning. "If this place has been closed for forty years, the bedding could use a wash."
Dean shrugged. "Surprise me."
Kate figured the rooms should be closed to each other for safety. She chose the four across the hall from the laundry room. She stripped the beds and tossed the sheets into the hallway. "I don't know how to put the sheets back on. They don't have elastic."
Sam smiled. "Ask Dean. He will show you."
Kate tiptoed and grabbed a tin from a shelf. "I forgot about laundry soap. Do you think this stuff expires?"
Sam didn't have an answer. "Open it and see."
Kate opened the tin. There were tablets that smelled nice. "Eh, what's the worst that could happen."
Bobby found a large door to one side of the garage. He managed to open it and it lead into a tunnel. "I bet this leads to the surface. You might want to pull the car in here so we don't have to make too many trips outside. This place is warded to the gills."
Dean glanced at the walls and ceilings. "It is so neat. It looks like part of the décor."
Bobby and Taylor walked down the long tunnel as Dean ran up to get the car. Bobby found another door and pushed against it. He couldn't get it to budge, likely due to vines on the other side.
Taylor touched his shoulder. "Let me try." He put his hands on the door and thought about David and Luis. He felt the anger build and pushed the energy through his finger tips and onto the door. The doors gave and opened with a groan."
Bobby was impressed. "Your control is amazing."
Taylor smiled at the compliment. He walked forward and pulled at some weeds and other vegetation that blocked a possible path.
Bobby whistled to let Dean know where they were.
Dean slowly drove around but stopped the car at the edge of the trees. He wasn't going to risk scratching baby. He got a machete from the trunk and started hacking away at the overgrowth.
Taylor heard the sound of metal on tree root and put his hands on the ground. He focused his energy and loosened the dirt. He stood up and grabbed some of the vines and pulled. They gave way as if they were simply laid on top of the dirt.
"Just pull!" Taylor shouted.
Dean grabbed a root and yanked. "Thanks!"
Bobby helped Taylor clear the path as they worked toward Dean. "You've gotten handy to have around."
Taylor grinned.
Dean pulled the car onto the path and into the bunker. He found a spot good enough for baby and turned the engine off. "She looks good in here." He put his keys in his pocket. "Where is Kate?"
Bobby groaned. "Kate!"
Kate showed up in the doorway. "I was washing stuff. I found something that you may want to look at though."
They followed her down the hallway, into the kitchen and to an ornate cabinet.
"Is that a liquor cabinet?" Bobby asked.
Kate nodded. "All of it has to be aged pretty well."
Bobby opened the doors and looked through the stash. "This isn't the stuff you can buy at the store. Dear god. Dean, look at this scotch."
"We need ice." Dean announced.
Kate giggled. She loved seeing Dean and Bobby excited over something. It wasn't just the scotch, it was the cars and armory and books. She saw a look of childlike amazement on their faces and it made her incredibly happy. "John likes that stuff too, right?"
Dean looked at her like she was nuts. "Likes is an understatement."
Kate looked around for dishes. "So when he gets here, pour him some but don't tell him how old it is."
Dean smirked. "I'll run to the store if you want to make a list. I'm guessing dish liquid is on that."
Kate took paper form her back pack. "Do you think the oven will blow up if we use it?"
Bobby looked at it. "It is clean as a whistle but we can wipe it down before trying."
Dean left with the list and Taylor and Kate worked on making the kitchen usable. Most of the stuff was just a dusty. Who ever lived there before kept the place clean.
Bobby went back to the library and looked at the books. He could spend the rest of his life reading and didn't think he'd reach the last book. He did find a section on angels so he took those books from the shelf and placed them on the massive table. He flipped through the pages and was surprised by the amount of information they contained. There were different types of angels. Not all were Grigori. He heard Kate ask for his help so he sat the book down and went to the kitchen.
On the bookshelf, the books shifted from the gap that was made with the removal of the angelic books. A single, thin, handwritten book fell on its side from behind the other books. A single word was written in neat script. "Nephilim."
