Trigger warnings ahead.

The next morning, Dean grabbed food and coffee from the coffee shop across from the motel. He knocked on April's door and offered her the food and a cup of coffee. "I am going to check out the house this morning. If all is well, you should be able to go back and have no issues."

April thanked him. "You are a godsend."

Dean reminded Andy to stay in the room and drove back to the house. There were no cold spots and no EMF activity. The case was simple. The ghost didn't seem vengeful and likely hadn't meant to cause harm to April or the kids. The guy was at true rest and that was the best Dean could hope for. He looked around the house at the repairs needed and cursed under his breath. He made a mental note of it and drove back to the motel. "Your house is officially pest-free. Well, at least of the things I hunt."

April smiled brightly. "You are amazing."

Dean drove April and the kids back to the house and popped the hood of the impala. He helped Andy stand on the front fender so he could get a closer look. "This is where the magic happens. I have replaced most of the parts over the years. I have to get some of them from other old cars."

Andy stared in awe at the engine and all of the different knobs and bends.

Dean let him look for a little while longer before helping him to the ground and shutting the hood.

April ruffled Andy's hair. "Say thank you."

Andy thanked Dean and ran into the house.

Dean rubbed the back of his head. "I have a couple of younger siblings. Two have made a run for it more than once over the years. Andy seems to be a bit of a flight risk."

April sighed. "He has been since his dad left."

Dean nodded. "My two youngest siblings are stuck at home for a while and my sister especially loves to talk. I wouldn't mind giving you their number so Andy has someone to talk to that is a kid, but cool by being an older kid. Sometimes having someone to complain to can keep a kid rooted."

"I think that would be wonderful. You have gone above and beyond what I was expecting." April said.

Dean blushed. "Ah, it isn't a big deal. My mom passed when I was about Andy's age and my dad was gone a lot so I helped raise my brother. Andy just reminds me a bit of him." He wrote down a few numbers on a slip of paper. "This is Kate's number. Taylor is 13, Kate is 11. Both would be more than happy to chat. You have my number in case anything else happens. Your ghost is gone so I think you are golden."

April thanked him a few more times and stepped away from the sidewalk as he pulled away. She felt lightness in the house when she walked in and could tell Jimmy's ghost had left.

Dean called Kate on his way out of town. "Hey, you and Taylor are on kid duty if you get a phone call."

Kate furrowed her brows. "What do you mean?"

Dean sighed. "The case I just finished. There is a kid named Andy. He is a major flight risk and has some stuff going on. I gave his mom your number so he can talk to someone if he needs to. Plus, I figured if you had some type of connection to him you could find him when he inevitably takes off."

Kate grinned. "Bobby said no more kids, Dean."

Dean chuckled. "I'm not trying to acquire the kid."

"Uh huh. Okay. So if he calls I'm to convince him that adults don't suck and he should stay in school." Kate said.

Dean rolled his eyes. "That about covers it."

"How did the case go?" Kate asked.

"I'd say it went as well as it could. Simple salt and burn. The ghost was not malicious." Dean said.

Kate looked up as John walked into the room. "Dean is trying to adopt another kid."

John raised an eyebrow.

Dean snorted. "Brat."

John held his hand out for the phone. "You were supposed to get rid of a ghost."

Dean chuckled. "I did. The kid is six and likes to run. I told Kate she may get a phone call if he needs to vent or something."

John felt a swell of pride for the man Dean was turning out to be. "You thought she would be the best candidate for that talk?"

Kate huffed and crossed her arms.

"Kate and Taylor both. Do you know anyone who could see about getting her some help? Her house is falling apart and needs a few repairs." Dean said.

"You might ought to ask Missouri about that. She is closer to that area." John said. He rubbed his chin. "Your job is to get rid of the nasty and leave though."

Dean paused and thought about it. "I did ask if we know anyone. I didn't volunteer to do it."

John smirked. "Just call Missouri." He hung up the phone and handed it back to Kate. "You have some assignments to get caught up on."

Kate groaned but stopped herself from rolling her eyes. "Yes, sir."

Sam felt at home at Stanford, finally. He fit in more than he had in any other place. People appreciated his intelligence and he had a pretty girl who loved spending time with him. He did miss his family though. He finished an essay he had been working on and put everything back in his bag. He walked out of the library and caught a chill. California fall was not as cold as South Dakota fall but the nip in the wind caught him off guard. He checked the time on his watch and tried to decide if he had enough time to make it to his dorm before he was supposed to meet Jess. He decided against it and walked toward the building that she was in. He felt his phone vibrate and answered it. "Hey, bug."

Kate smiled when she heard Sam's voice. "Hey, Sammy!"

Sam listened to Kate prattle on about daily life and chuckled. "Don't get too used to stabbing things."

"Dean is a panzi and won't let me give him a tattoo." Kate said.

"Yeah, count me out of that too." Sam said.

Kate sighed. "A brave lot you all are." Kate chewed her fingernails. "So, are you and Jess boyfriend and girlfriend now?"

"Well, I don't know." Sam said. He had wondered that as well but was in no rush.

Kate rolled her eyes. "Are you dating?"

Sam saw Jess walking out of the building and waved. "I don't know. I mean... I think."

Kate urged Sam to make it official.

"Mind your business." Sam said with a chuckle. "Hey, Jess." He said and took the warm cup that Jess offered him.

Kate squealed. "Jess!"

Sam pulled the phone away from his ear. "No."

Kate slapped the table. "Come on Sam, I just want to talk to her for like two seconds."

"Kate, no." Sam said. "Don't make me hang up on you."

Jess grinned. "What is it?"

"Jess, Jess, Jess, make him give you the phone!" Kate said.

Jess smiled and grabbed the phone from Sam's hand. "Hi."

Kate cleared her throat. "Just between us, are you two dating?"

Jess blushed. "I'm not sure."

Kate sighed. "He is too much of a gentleman to be presumptuous so you're going to have to make that move."

Jess laughed. "Oh really?"

"Yeah, so I need a definite answer here."

Sam tried to grab the phone back.

Jess ducked under his arm. "Hold on a minute. Sam is going to have to call you back."

Sam was horrified. "I am so sorry."

Jess handed him his phone.

"I don't know what she said but I am so sorry." Sam said, hoping that Jess wasn't offended.

Jess put a hand on his chest and stepped closer to him. "She said you were too much of a gentleman to be presumptuous."

Sam's face turned red. "Oh god."

"I think she has a point so, Sam, we are dating. Is that too presumptuous for you?"

Sam stammered. "Uh no. I.. wha-"

Jess laced her fingers between Sam's. "Unless you don't want me as a girlfriend."

Sam's eyes flew open. "No. No... I'd love that."

"Great, then presume all you want." She turned to face him. She gave him a coy smirk and batted her eyelashes.

Sam's brain finally caught up with him and he wrapped her in his arms and lifted her to kiss her. "Like that?"

Jess smiled. "Exactly like that."

Sam let her go and walked hand in hand with her. "It is official then."

"Now that we are dating you do have to come to family dinners. You are just the type of guy my dad will hate at first glance. It sweetens the deal." Jess said.

Sam stopped walking. "Why do I feel like this is a trap?"

Jess smiled sweetly. "I'll make it up to you." She turned and walked swiftly, nearly dragging Sam.

"Where are we going?" Sam asked.

"You are taking me to get pizza." Jess said.

Sam laughed. "Right."

"Katelyn, assignments, not phone calls." John said as he walked into the library.

Kate jumped. "Already off the phone."

"Get to it then." John said. He picked her phone up and moved it to the other side of the table.

Kate sighed. "It was Sam."

"Now it isn't, get to work." John said.

Kate grabbed a pencil and started working on homework. She took Taylor's advice and buckled down to do as much as she could in an allotted amount of time. If she spent a day on homework, she wouldn't have any for the next day."

Taylor sorted through the metal tags and found them interesting. Some were used with hex begs or used as talismans. Some warded off evil in general while others magnified an effect. He wondered where the man found a whole box of the things. Having the symbols on such small items made them easy to hide but also easy to lose. He felt Liam climbing his leg and held out his arm to prevent the kitten from jumping onto the piles of tags. "Not the kind of help I need."

Liam perched on Taylor's shoulder and rubbed his face against the side of Taylor's head.

Taylor smiled. "Just stay there."

Kate worked through a few pages and got bored. She took a break and stopped in Taylor's room. "What are you doing?"

"I'm almost done with these. They are cool if you want to look at them."

Kate went to step into the room but caught John out of the corner of her eye. "I was taking a break."

"Not until you get that list done. You gave Dean hell over it already." John said.

Kate whirled around and stomped back to the library, passing John.

John stopped her. "Lose the attitude. Those need to be done so they can get back to the school."

"I can't sit in one spot for hours and hours. I have to get up and move around or my brain dies." Kate whined.

"If you need a sore seat to help you focus I can arrange that."

Kate's mouth dropped open. "No thanks, I'll finish those."

John shook his head as she walked away. She was like Dean when it came to school.

Aphrim quietly studied the family from her place at the edge of the library. She read books and stayed to herself. John didn't trust her and she understood that. He was fiercely protective of the children.

John spotted her. He tilted his head. "I'd like a word with you."

Aphrim followed him into the hallway. "Yes?"

"Are you still being hunted?"

Aphrim nodded. "I will be forever."

John sighed and rubbed his face. "Don't they know what Kate and Taylor are?"

"Not completely. I have observed them more closely and know things that Naomi does not. I did not share certain things with her because I felt like she only saw them as products." Aphrim said.

"So what aren't you telling us?" John asked. He held up his finger to tell Aphrim to wait. "Kate, if you are up from the table..." He heard a faint shuffle and shook his head. "Go on."

Aphrim looked around nervously. "It is too much for one person."

John walked toward the garage. "Try me."

Aphrim spoke once they were in the garage. "They will learn to use the gifts they've been given but some may come at a cost. Some are so powerful that it may be best that they do not know they exist but if they happen upon them accidentally, that is another bad outcome."

"So you know what powers they have?" John asked.

Aphrim shook her head. "I saw some. I do not know for sure."

John gave her a look.

"Taylor may be able to alter currents."

John furrowed his brows. "Like he did with the dirt and the demon?"

"Exactly." Aphrim said.

"So we already know about that."

Aphrim sighed. "I cannot show you as I do not have that capability anymore. The human body has electrical activity. Someone who can alter that activity could stop someone's heart but could also restart it."

John understood Aphrim's worry. "If he finds that out by accident..."

"They need to carefully discover what they can do." Aphrim said.

John nodded. "Yet, it isn't safe to do that."

Aphrim smiled with pain in her eyes. "I cannot stay here. I will continue to draw attention."

"Where are you going to go?" John asked.

"I will turn myself in."

"You can't. You'll be tortured." John said.

"Not if I am not alive." Aphrim said.

John stepped back. "Can't they just revive you?"

Aphrim shook her head slowly. "Not if I do it right."

John paced a little. "This will destroy the kids."

"I have no choice." Aphrim said.

"Okay, that doesn't need to happen today though." John said.

"No, it doesn't."

"Good, good. We will figure something out."

Dean rolled down his window. "Looking for a ride?"

Caleb looked over his shoulder and bit his lip. "I charge by the hour."

Dean rolled his eyes. "Just get in the car."

Caleb laughed and opened the door. "Do you treat all the ladies like this?"

Dean shoved his shoulder. "Dumbass."

"Why do we always take your car?"

Dean stared at Caleb. "Apologize to baby."

Caleb grinned and patted the dashboard.

Dean cracked a smile. "You aren't limping."

Caleb rolled his ankle. "Good as new. Actually, better than new."

"So you'll pull your weight on this hunt and not be a pain in the ass?" Dean asked.

Caleb scoffed. "Don't get your hopes up."

They drove to the first location and set up surveillance. There had been reports of cold spots and flickering lights but nothing had been confirmed. People were still in the building and it needed to be empty before the duo went in to fight the ghost.

"So my money is on a disgruntled employee." Dean said.

"I think office mistress." Caleb countered.

"Oh, damn. Forgot about that one."

They shared snacks and waited for the office building to close.

"Showtime." Caleb said.

They entered the building through a side door and checked each floor for emf. "I'm getting something in here." Dean said.

Caleb followed him into a large office. "Lighting up like a Christmas tree."

The lights flickered overhead and the computer screen turned on.

"I'm leaning toward mistress now." Dean said.

A pencil rolled across the desk and landed at Dean's feet.

Dean swung his hand as a figure appeared beside him.

Caleb jumped. "Did you just bitch slap a ghost?"

Dean scoffed. "I punched it."

"That was definitely a-" Caleb grunted as something hit his stomach.

Dean saw something on the computer screen and got a closer look. "Time to pay?"

The screen was filled with those three words over and over again.

Dean felt hairs stand up on his arms. "Time to pay what?"

The figure appeared again but didn't approach Dean or Caleb.

Dean held up his hands. The ghost was a young woman in a sorority hoody and smeared makeup. "We want to help."

Caleb stayed frozen.

The screen on the computer flashed again and the printer started printing out pages of "time to pay."

Dean swallowed hard. "Did he do something?"

The lamp on the desk flew off the side.

"I'll take that as a yes." Dean slowly reached for the computer mouse and shook it to wake the computer.

"What are you doing?" Caleb hissed.

"Dude, college girl... smeared make-up.. I think the douche has something to pay for."

Caleb felt sick to his stomach.

Dean got into the computer and searched around for anything that could be holding the woman's ghost to the office. He clicked on the file and felt the room chill again.

Caleb hit the floor and felt the wind being knocked out of him. "Hurry!"

Dean opened a file and slammed his fist into the desk. "Son of a bitch." He was knocked off his feet and hit the wall. "Look, look. We will turn him into the police. We found you. You can be at peace."

The ghost stared at Dean and then at Caleb. She gave them a sad smile and faded.

Caleb held up the emf reader. "Nothing."

Dean stumbled forward and glanced at the file. "It wasn't just her. There are others." He turned his face away. "How do we turn him in?"

"Leave the file open. Call the police for a break-in. They'll find the photos." Caleb said.

Dean didn't want to expose the girls more than they had been already so he didn't send anything to the man's entire contact list like he wanted to. Everyone needed to know but not like that. He used tissue paper to wipe down the mouse and grab the telephone. He dialed 911 and waited. "Hello, I'd like to report a robbery, 270 Millwood Street. Suit 301." He hung up the phone and ran behind Caleb to exit the building before law enforcement showed up. As they drove away, sirens could be heard and lights could be seen flashing.

"Well, that is a new one." Caleb said.

Dean rubbed the back of his head. "My second friendly ghost today."

"What's that?"

"The first dude lost his kid in a car wreck. He was trying to get the house's new kid to play catch with him. He was just hurting." Dean said. "This one just wanted someone to know what happened to her."

"One more to go. Maybe they'll be a grandmotherly type that bakes cookies." Caleb said.

"There you go."

Police entered the building and quickly swept each floor. The lights were on in one office and it looked like there had been a struggle.

An officer walked over to the computer screen and froze. "Robbers found something."

Another officer walked around the desk and took his hat off in respect. "I don't think this was a robbery." He called in an investigative team and replaced his hat. "In 30 years, I have never had something like this happen."

The next morning Dean felt a little fatigued but the first two hunts hadn't been strenuous. He grabbed a cup of coffee and parked outside a very old house. "How did anyone even find a ghost in that dump?"

"High school kids." Caleb said.

"That'll do it." Dean said. He grabbed his gear from the back seat and trudged up the steps of the house. "Always teenagers."

"Like you didn't sneak around places like this as a teen." Caleb said.

Dean scoffed. "Baby's backseat is far better than a place like this."

Caleb laughed. "Or the Mill pond."

Dean shot him a look. "Shut your mouth." He had a memory of skinny dipping and police spotlights flash through his head.

Caleb grinned. "Good times, brother."

Emf inside the house was strong and the place just looked haunted.

"Any idea who Casper is?" Dean asked.

"Nope." Caleb said.

"This better not be another damn haunted doll." Dean said as he kicked over a small figurine.

Caleb chuckled. "Ah, man."

Dean looked around and could see that the place was a hot spot for couples. "Maybe it is a grandmotherly type that just doesn't like premarital sex."

Caleb pulled a face. "Gross."

"Just don't put your hand down anywhere." Dean said.

Caleb turned the handle on a door and felt the house cool. "Dean."

Dean felt the chill too. "Always the basement."

Caleb slowly opened the door and pointed his flashlight down the steps. "Creepy basement."

"Ladies first." Dean said and tilted his head.

Caleb groaned. "I should up my rates." He slowly descended the stairs, waiting for something to grab him. "We just want cookies."

Dean stepped behind him and placed his back against Caleb's. "I don't think I want cookies from this place."

Caleb heard movement and caught something in the edge of his flashlight. "What the hell is that?"

Dean tried to catch the creature in a beam of light but it was fast. "Not a ghost!"

Caleb nudged Dean. "Up, up. Go!"

Dean tried to go up the stairs but the door slammed. "Goddammit."

"Do they work together?" Caleb asked.

Dean whirled around. "Hell if I know." He found a light switch and flicked it on.

A creature screeched and ran behind a shelf.

Dean fired a shot at a figure that appeared in front of him.

Caleb did the same in another direction.

Dean spotted a window and shot at it. The glass shattered and flooded a small space with sunlight. "Can't turn that light off." Dean said smugly as the light flickered.

"Great, so whatever the thing is is scared of light but the ghosts aren't." Caleb said. He poured salt in a half-circle at their feet.

"What else do you have on you?" Dean asked.

"Silver bullets, a blade and salt." Caleb said.

"That is about what I have." Dean said.

Caleb took a deep breath. "Maybe the thing doesn't like silver."

Dean nodded. "Let's hope." He reached for his phone to call for backup. "No service, fucking great."

Caleb checked his. "Of course."

Dean reached toward the window. "Do you think either of us could fit through that?"

Caleb grimaced. "You could, I couldn't."

Dean cursed under his breath.

"You could run to the car and get something stronger than salt." Caleb said.

"I'm not leaving you down here." Dean said.

Caleb snorted. "I am still waiting on cookies."

A scraping noise caused them both to turn.

Caleb nudged Dean. "Get your skinny ass out of here and bring me something to fight with."

Dean knew they were pinned and that was likely their only shot. "Dammit." He pulled the bracelet off his wrist. "Take this."

Caleb eyed the bracelet. "I just thought you had a strong backhand."

Dean rolled his eyes. "Take the damn thing. It has iron in it."

Caleb slipped it on his wrist. He backed against the wall and leaned forward so Dean could step on his back. "Run."

Dean managed to squeeze through the small window and sprint to the car. He grabbed bigger knives and a few other things. He heard Caleb scream right before he got back to the window. He tossed the gear through the window and dove through, catching his arm and side on shards of glass on the way down.

Caleb was pulled away from the beam of light and felt sharp claws digging into him.

Dean fired a shot over Caleb's prone form and managed to grab his arm and pull him back to the light. "What happened?"

"Damn thing grabbed me." Caleb said.

"What is it?" Dean asked.

"Do I look like I got a good look at it?" Caleb hissed.

The creature lunged again and caught Dean's boot to the face. It stumbled and then lunged again.

Dean sliced it with the silver blade.

The creature growled and lunged again.

"Silver doesn't do shit." Dean yelled.

Caleb sat against the wall and fired off a few rounds at the ghosts.

Dean backed toward Caleb and picked up a larger knife.

The creature lunged at Caleb and knocked the gun from his hand.

Caleb tried to recover the gun but met the creature's claws again.

Dean beheaded the creature and kicked the skull across the room. "Come on, we have to get out of here."

Caleb tried to stand but groaned. "The ghosts."

Dean pushed the gun toward Caleb. "Shoot at them."

Caleb groaned again. "He got me good."

Dean bent and put Caleb's arm around his shoulders. "Come on. You have the bracelet so you get to do the ghost punching."

Caleb leaned on Dean. "Right on."

Dean grabbed the gear and threw it back out the window. He armed himself with a rifle and carefully made his way toward the steps. "Bottom step, you got it."

Caleb threw his hand as a ghost grabbed him. "I'm gonna have to get me one of these."

Dean could feel Caleb getting heavier. "We talked about this. Pull your own weight. Just a few more steps."

Caleb stumbled through the door at the top of the steps.

Dean whirled around as a creature sprinted up the steps. He fired a round into the thing's chest and slammed the door behind him. He grabbed Caleb again and hauled him out of the house. He left Caleb at the car. "I'm going to torch the place."

Caleb took a deep breath. "Don't go back in there."

Dean whirled around. "Through the window!"

Caleb waved him off. "Good thinking."

Dean ran around to the window and quickly grabbed the bag. He lit the makeshift flamethrower and aimed it through the window. He tossed in a few bottles of lighter fluid and scrambled back away from the flames. He heard hellish screeches from inside and ran back to the car. "We have to go." He saw Caleb sitting beside the car with his back against the wheel. "Caleb?"

Caleb gave him a sad smile. "He got me good."

Dean realized how much blood Caleb had lost. He knelt down. "Where did he get you?"

Caleb moved his hand.

Dean quickly shoved Caleb's hand back toward his abdomen. The shift in the torn fabric told him it was a gut wound without having to see it. He grabbed a towel and put it on Caleb's abdomen. "Hold pressure. It's not so bad. Just a scratch." His heart was racing. He saw the long laceration on his own arm and groaned. "We need to get you to a hospital."

Caleb coughed. He smiled with red teeth. "Can't do that."

Dean swore loudly. He felt tears stinging his eyes. He knew that, even with an ER team, the wound was too deep to do much. "Shut up. I'll get you there."

Caleb grabbed his arm. "You are bleeding. Get yourself to the hospital."

Dean shook his head and wiped his face. "Don't talk like that. It isn't that bad." He grabbed another towel and dabbed at the blood coming from Caleb's mouth. "It isn't that bad." He caught Caleb as he fell over and tried to reach for his phone. His pocket was empty. He drove his head into the side of the car door. "Dammit!" He looked up at the sky and back down at Caleb's pale face. "Caleb, look at me, buddy."

Caleb felt cold and sleepy. He didn't have the strength to open his eyes.

Dean gasped and felt of his pocket again. He pulled the syringe Kate had given him from his back pocket and shifted so that he could find a vein on Caleb's arm. "Please forgive me." The vein on Caleb's arm was tiny from blood loss but he jabbed the needle in anyway. He withdrew the needle and tossed the syringe on the ground. He patted Caleb's face. "Hey, open your eyes." He didn't get a response and felt for a pulse. "Come on man, open your damn eyes." He shook Caleb and put his head to his chest. "Come on. Wake up." Kate's blood was a long shot but he really wanted it to work. He felt a tear slip down his cheek. "This isn't pulling your weight, man. Wake up." He looked to the sky and closed his eyes. "Cas! I need help!" Dean screamed a location toward the sky and dropped his head.

Castiel heard Dean's prayer and appeared beside the impala. He quickly ran around. "Dean."

Dean looked up at Castiel. "You have to help him."

Castiel tried to heal Caleb but couldn't. He sat back on his haunches. "I'm too late."

Dean kicked the tire of the impala. "Try again."

Castiel put his hand on Caleb's head. "Wait. What did you do?"

Dean knelt down. "What do you mean?"

"What did you do?"

Dean stammered. "Uh, Kate gave me her blood in a syringe. I gave it to him."

Castiel nodded. "Drive to the bunker, now."

Dean blinked and the angel and his friend both vanished. "What?" He slowly stood up and stumbled. The house fire was quickly spreading. He numbly loaded the car and looked around for his phone. He found it and shoved it into his pocket. He took a look at his arm and wrapped fabric around it. He was on autopilot and blocked all thought from his mind until his phone buzzed. "Hello?"

John's heart split. "Dean. Are you okay?"

Dean blinked. "What?"

"You are going into shock. Are you injured?" John asked.

Dean tried to leave the house but realized the car wasn't on. "No. I mean.. what?"

John looked at Castiel. "Go get him."

Dean shook his head. "No, my car." He jumped as John's feet hit the ground in front of the car.

John opened the driver's door. "I'm never going to get used to that."

Dean blinked slowly.

John looked at his arm and spotted the gash on his side. "Shit. Okay, Castiel is going to take you to the bunker. I'm going to cover tracks here and drive the car back."

Dean blinked again. "Don't go in the basement."

John looked at the wall of flames. "I won't." Dean vanished before his eyes and he let his knees buckle slightly. He had seen the shape Caleb was in and it made him sick. He picked up a few things outside the house that belonged to the pair and sped away from the flames.

Kate was in tears when Caleb showed up. No one knew what had happened and he was unresponsive. She couldn't even see the injury through the amount of blood. "What do I do?"

Castiel pointed to her arm. "IV now."

Kate scrambled for a kit and let Castiel start a line on her. She let blood flow into a bag and then tore the needle from her arm so that she could swap it for one for Caleb. "Did Dean give him the blood I sent?" She whirled around and Castiel was gone. She screamed when he returned with Dean. She put her hands on his face. "What happened?"

Dean stared at her.

Kate pulled his flannel off. "Taylor, help!"

Taylor assisted Kate in healing the wound to Dean's arm and side.

Dean heard water rushing through his ears and the lights looked like they were dancing.

Kate checked on Caleb. There was no obvious improvement but Dean needed her. She called for clean towels and water. She cleaned the blood from his face, arms and chest. The wounds were no longer dangerous. "Taylor, take him to his bed."

Taylor helped Dean walk to his bed and lay down. He finished cleaning the blood from Dean's skin and pulled his boots off.

Kate went back to Caleb and tried to clean him up. "Cas, help."

Castiel walked around Caleb's side. He opened the sterile dressing and helped Kate pack the wound. "He will need antibiotics, yes?"

"Call John." Kate said.

Aphrim stood in a corner and watched in horror.

John floored it back toward the bunker as fast as he could. He gave Castiel a list of supplies although he didn't think Caleb would survive the ordeal.

Castiel returned with medication, dressings, and various other medical supplies. "Let me take over."

Kate glared at him. "I've got this."

Aphrim touched her arm. "Katelyn."

"Leave me alone. He is Dean's best friend. I can't let him die." She said through tears. She called John back. "Stop the car. Put it in park."

John slammed his foot on the breaks. "Why?"

"Just do it!" Kate yelled.

John pulled the car over and turned the ignition off. His head hit the steering wheel as the car landed on concrete. He grabbed his head and looked around.

Kate looked up as John rounded the corner. "You hurt your head?"

John let go of his forehead. "Hit the wheel because the car doesn't have the best shock absorbency."

Kate tilted her head to tell Castiel to heal him. "I don't know how to fix this."

John looked at Caleb's injuries. "In a hospital setting, there isn't much they could do. I don't know what has been perforated." He felt of Caleb's pulse. It was weak but there. He helped Kate with the cuts to his leg and checked on Dean. He returned to the infirmary and wrapped Kate in a hug. "We may not be able to save him."

Kate shoved him away. She grabbed another IV kit and started it on her other arm.

"Kate, stop." John said.

Kate glared at him. "I'm not letting him go."

John thought of Caleb as another son. He didn't want to let him go but the injury was fatal. The fact that Caleb had survived that long amazed him. "Kate."

Kate stepped back. "Let me try one more time."

John held his hand up. "Sit down then." He added the new bag of blood to Caleb's infusion and picked Kate up. "Take a breath."

Kate cried on John's shoulder. "He's Dean's best friend."

John swayed. "I know. I know."

Taylor stayed with Dean. His eyes were open but he wasn't talking so Taylor did the talking. "You are in shock. We are at the bunker and your wounds are healing. You're okay."

Dean blinked slowly.

Taylor's throat swelled. "Everything will be okay."

An hour ticked by with no sudden changes. John hugged Kate again. "It is okay."

Kate wiped her face. She slumped and stared at her feet.

John grabbed a thin white sheet to cover Caleb's body with and slowly pulled it over him. He stopped when he felt Caleb's muscle twitch. It happened during death so he wasn't surprised but he placed his fingers on Caleb's neck. He felt thumping in his fingers and jerked his hand back. He switched hands to insure it wasn't his own heartbeat. "Kate... Kate!"

Kate jumped up. "What is it?"

John grabbed her hand and put it on Caleb's neck. "Feel that?"

Kate grinned. "Now what?"

John looked at the wounds on Caleb's leg. "It is working!"

Kate bounced on her toes. "Can I do another bag?"

John touched her face. "How are you feeling?"

Kate shrugged. "I feel fine."

John nodded. "Go slow. If you feel dizzy or anything you stop." He left the room to see Dean. He sat beside the bed and put a hand on Dean's arm. "Dean, I need to talk to you about Caleb."

Dean rolled away from him.

"Dean, listen."

Dean knew Caleb was dead and it was his fault. He left him in the basement. He didn't need the lecture.

John sighed. "He is healing."

Dean shot out of the bed and sprinted down the hallway. He was still woozy and caught his head on the door facing as he stumbled in.

"What the fuck, Dean! I already healed you once." Kate yelled.

Dean grabbed his head.

Kate's eyes flew open when she saw John.

John shook his head. "No, it is okay. You took the words from my mouth."

Dean let go of his head and felt of Caleb's neck. "He's warm."

Kate nodded. "The wounds are healing too."

John kept Dean from falling backward. "Son, I'd sit down. If you keep hurting yourself I'm not going to stop her."

Dean sat down and took the water Taylor appeared with. "I thought..."

"We did too." John said.

Dean put his hand on Caleb's chest to feel his heartbeat. He kept his hand there for a while as the heartbeat grew stronger. He rested his head on the cool table and felt himself dozing off.

Kate added the third bag of blood to the IV pole and sat back.

John ruffled her hair. "You did great."

Kate felt herself relax. "And still got out of doing my assignments."

John froze before laughing. He smiled with a twinkle in his eye. "To hell with the assignments tonight."

Taylor put food in the oven and brought it into the infirmary. "Refreshments."

Dean heard a whisper and his head shot up. He asked Taylor for some water for Caleb. He leaned down so he could hear the faint words. "What is it?"

Caleb swallowed. "Get your hands off my tits if you don't plan on paying."

Dean jerked his hand away from Caleb's chest and grinned. "Dumbass."
