Author's note: Nappy51. Thank you for the review. It can be disheartening at first when there are no reviews. I love every review I get. However, I think, if I tried to stop writing, I have a few readers that would attempt to kick down my door (lovingly). If you wanted to share the author, I would love to read their story and give them a review. It is a huge confidence boost.
Sam had just gotten out of the shower when Jess brought him his phone. He answered it, "Hey, Dean."
Dean cleared his throat. "You may have saved my bacon tonight."
Sam furrowed his brows. "How?"
"That ticket you got me. Lacy and I are out for my birthday. Long story short, we went for the nicer hotel and the bed is... soft."
Sam cringed. "Yeah, yeah. I get you."
"We got to the bar we were going to a bit later than planned. Some idiot tried to shoot up the place and we barely missed it." Dean said.
Sam sat down on his bed. "What? Is everyone okay?"
Dean explained Kate's vision and Caleb's part in everything.
"When older Taylor was here, he told me to go to that specific store to get your Christmas gift." Sam said. He rubbed his face. "Damn, that was close."
"Somehow, I want to sit those two down together and ask some questions." Dean said.
"I don't know how you would go about that." Sam said.
Dean sighed. "I'll figure it out."

Caleb was excited to get back home. He had been questioned by the police several times and he was sick of recounting his story. To their knowledge, he was an average bar goer that happened to see the guy acting suspiciously. There was a news story and rumors circulating. It made him nervous but it did paint him in a positive light. Any hunter that heard about it, he could tell them about the demon. They'd assume he had been tracking it. However, he had no idea how the bullet he shot killed the demon.
Andy wanted to know what happened to Caleb. He wanted details and April just said he got injured while on a hunt with Bobby. "When is he coming home?"
"He will be here soon," April said, for the eighth time.
Andy looked outside. He didn't see Caleb's truck. "Is he driving?"
April's head was beginning to hurt. "Bobby is."
"Is he too hurt to drive?" Andy asked.
"No. He got hurt on his side and has a few stitches. He took some medicine so it wouldn't hurt and didn't want to drive in the snow after taking it." April explained. She turned to put the plates away in the cabinet and stepped on a plastic army man. She sucked in a breath of air and put the plates away before looking at her foot. "Andy, I need you to put your army men away."
Andy kept looking out the window.
April knocked the army man toward the others that had found their way under the table. She continued putting dishes away and dried her hands. "Andy."
Ian pulled at her pants leg and whined. He was tired and wanted to be picked up.
April nearly tripped over him. "I can't pick you up right now."
Ian sat down in the floor and cried loudly.
"Come pick up your toys." April said.
Andy covered his ears. "Ian is too loud. I'm hungry. I want to play in the snow."
April took a deep breath.
Ian had abandoned the floor and pulled on a dishtowel, causing the cups that were on it to crash to the floor.
April jumped and scooped Ian up, checking him over for cuts. She went to put him in the high chair and stepped on another army man. "Andrew! Pick up the army men!"
Andy held his hands firmly over his ears. "No! Ian is loud!"
Caleb had dropped Bobby off and driven slowly back to the apartment. He arrived just as she yelled for him to pick up the toys. He unlocked the door and slowly opened it.
Andy turned to run from the kitchen and saw Caleb. "Caleb!"
April spun around too and gasped.
Caleb sat his bag down. He crouched and hugged Andy before stepping into the kitchen.
April was breathing heavily and trying to regain her composure.
Caleb took in the scene. There was broken glass and army men. There was blood but he wasn't sure which one of them it was from. Ian was in his high chair screaming as though he was being murdered and April looked truly done. He stepped around the glass and pulled her into a hug. He felt some of the tension in her body ease. "What happened?"
April sighed. "It has just been a long day. Ian wanted me to pick him up and he grabbed the dishcloth and then the glass broke and I was going to clean it up then you came in."
Caleb nodded. "Did you tell Andy to pick something up?"
April motioned toward the pile of action figures. "I keep stepping on them."
Caleb looked down. "Sit."
April shook her head. "I have to get this cleaned up. You sit."
Caleb put a hand on her back. "I'm pretty sure your foot is bleeding."
April looked at the floor. "Oh."
"Sit. We will worry about the glass in a minute." He got Ian out of the highchair and held him on his good side.
April looked at her foot and groaned. She did have a small cut.
"Andy, get your toys out of the floor, and then you are going to play with Ian while I get this cleaned up." Caleb said.
Andy pulled a face.
Caleb swatted him to get him moving.
Andy quickly shoved his army men into a box and carried them to his room. He was mad at Ian for breaking the cups and making April mad. He didn't want to play with him.
Caleb put Ian down. "Just play with him for a few minutes."
Andy sat on his bed. "I'll watch him. I'm not going to play with him."
Caleb sighed. "Andy, your mom has a hurt foot. Ian can't be in the kitchen around the glass. I need you to keep him busy so that I can talk to her and get that glass out of the floor. After we get that out of the way, we can all spend some time together."
Andy frowned but slid into the floor and handed Ian a toy car.
Caleb shut the door and went back to help April. He was a little surprised to see her sobbing into her hands. He crouched and put his arms around her.
April pulled herself together. "This is all wrong. You got shot and are hurt. You need to rest."
Caleb rubbed her back. "I got grazed by a bullet. I've been laid up in a bed with someone tending to my every want or need. You've had a rough day." He let go of her and got first aid supplies. "I don't see any glass."
"I think it was from an army man." April said.
Caleb put a large bandaid over the small wound and tossed the wrapper in the trashcan.
April touched his arm. "I'll get the glass."
"I can do it."
April slipped her arms around his middle. "I can. I'm so sorry that this is what you came home to."
Caleb kissed the top of her head. "Don't be. I'll go talk to Andy if you insist on doing this part yourself."
April swallowed. "He is upset that I wouldn't tell him what happened."
Caleb sighed. "I'll talk to him about that part. You and I can talk to him about listening when you tell him to do something after that."
April nodded. "Okay. Thank you."
Caleb slowly opened the bedroom door so that he didn't hit Ian with it.
Andy was sitting in the floor, lazily running a car across the rug.
Caleb sat down on Andy's bed. "Hop up here."
Andy groaned but did what Caleb said.
"Your mom said you were upset that she didn't tell you what happened to me."
Andy furrowed his brows. "Yeah, why is it a secret?"
"I am the one that asked her to wait. I wanted to have this conversation with you because we have to be careful what we say." Caleb said. "The truth is, a bad guy took some guns into a building that had a lot of people. We got a tip about it and rushed to try to save people. I was able to tackle him and no one else got hurt."
"Why didn't mom just say that!" Andy shouted.
Caleb tapped his leg to settle him down. "You know the truth about what is out there. The guy had a demon in him. Now, we can't just go around telling people that. The tip we got was from Kate. She fell asleep and had a vision about it. We can't tell people that either. So, we had to work together to come up with a story that wouldn't seem weird to normal people. I asked her to wait because I didn't want you to accidentally go to school and tell people something that would make our story seem untrue."
"Why couldn't she tell me though? How did you get hurt?" Andy asked.
Caleb picked Ian up and put him on the bed. "I got shot."
Andy's eyes flew open.
"That is why I told her to say I just got hurt. Getting shot sounds really bad. A lot of times it is really bad." He pulled up the side of his shirt. "It hurt but it didn't damage anything inside my body. I didn't want you imagining something awful until I got home."
Andy fidgeted with his fingers. "That is scary."
"It was kind of scary but I was the only one who got hurt and I didn't even get hurt that bad." Caleb said. He pulled Ian back before he took a dive off the bed. "Little man, you are just pure chaos tonight."
Andy crossed his arms. "He broke the glass and mom got mad at me."
Caleb raised an eyebrow. "I think your mom was upset that you didn't pick up the army men when she asked you to."
"I was looking outside for your truck." Andy said.
"We can sit down and talk about that." Caleb said. He grabbed Ian's foot as he made a second attempt at diving off the bed. He had a feeling Ian would be more than a handful in a few years.
April swept all of the glass into a dustpan and disposed of it. She hated that the boys could get her to the point of breaking down so easily.
Caleb walked the boys back to the kitchen and helped April get food started. He pointed to one of the chairs and told Andy to sit. "I explained what happened and why I asked you to wait."
April sighed and sat down. "I'm so glad you are okay."
Caleb squeezed her hand. "Now, what happened with the army men?"
Andy studied his hands. "Mom told me to pick them up and I didn't."
"Why?" Caleb asked.
"I was looking outside the window and then Ian was loud." Andy said.
"What are you supposed to do when she asks you to do something?" Caleb asked.
Andy fidgeted. "Do it the first time." He took a deep breath. "Sorry, mama."
April patted him. "It is okay now."
Caleb tapped the table. "You need to start listening to your mom. You listen to me just fine. It is disrespectful when you don't listen to her."
Andy squirmed.
"I won't always be here. I may be working or on a trip sometimes. I don't want to hear that you've been giving her a hard time."
"I won't." Andy said.
Caleb ran his fingers through the back of April's hair. "I'm going to get a few things from town tomorrow. I won't be able to lift much. I may need you to go with me."
Andy grinned. "Instead of going to school?"
Caleb laughed. "After school."
Andy was excited. "I am great help."
April got up to pull the food from the oven and filled plates. Things were so much easier with Caleb. She could breathe.

Kate was anxious for Dean to be back but she wasn't worried. She just liked when he was around. She hadn't had any more visions and felt at peace. She sat down on the sofa to read a book about angels. Less was known about angels than about demons. They took over a host, much like a demon but they had to ask permission. A demon just swooped in and possessed who they wanted. Angels spoke a different language called Enochian and she could understand most of it. Cas helped her when she didn't know what a word or passage meant. He also told her which facts about angels were true and which ones were false. However, archangels were a mystery, even to Cas. No one had seen an archangel for eons and most were presumed dead. There weren't many to begin with. Micheal and Lucifer were the most heard of. That is who Sam and Dean were supposed to be vessels for. Gabriel was thought to be the one that 'fathered' the nephilian bloodline. If he created them, would they be able to talk to him? Summoning an archangel could be disastrous for all of them.
Taylor also had his fair share of angel-related questions. Gordon was heavier on his mind, though. Ellen hadn't said anything else but Taylor had nightmares about hunters finding out what they were and hunting them. He'd dream about the morning that Craig thought he was a shapeshifter and hunted him. He relived the fear of being tracked. Instead of Craig, the hunter was Gordon or other unnamed hunters. Instead of them thinking he was a shapeshifter, they thought he was something far bigger and far worse. He was, in a way but he didn't want to hurt anyone. If they found out what he was, they'd assume he was too powerful to be left alive. Then, they'd hunt him and hunt Kate. They'd go through the family as a way to get to them. No one would be safe. He'd just have to be more cautious with abilities. Most hunters weren't stupid. If some did find out, it would be pretty easy to bribe them. He didn't think anyone in their right mind would want to kill something that had magical blood that could heal wounds.
Dean was tense at first. There was no such thing as coincidence.
Lacy had questions but kept them to herself. Dean was stressed and she wanted him to be relaxed. So, she focused on that. The room had a large tub with jets and she convinced him to take a bath with her.
Dean actually enjoyed the bath. Having a stunning woman in there with him made the difference. "How did I get so lucky with you?"
Lacy ran her fingers through his hair. "You assume you are the one who got lucky."
Kate was in a good mood that Monday. Dean said he'd be home and pick them up from school which saved them a cold bus ride. She was caught up on homework and even ahead of schedule. She met up with Ellie and dropped most of her books at her locker. She shut the locker door and turned to hand Ellie a muffin that Marie made and froze. She saw an annoyingly familiar face. "Great."
Taylor was in his first class when he saw the same person. "Natasha?" Natasha was in Taylor's jiu-jitsu class, back when he still went to the class.
Natasha was smug. "Taylor."
"Did you switch schools?" Taylor asked.
Natasha didn't look directly at him. "Yes. We moved to a bigger house."
Taylor didn't have a personal problem with Natasha but she wasn't the easiest person to get along with. She was stuck up and all around irritating. He knew enough about her to know she still hadn't forgiven Kate for winning the sparring match so long ago. He sat back in his seat and kept to himself.
Kate was on edge. She didn't know why Natasha was at the school. She just hoped that the older girl didn't hold a grudge. Dean would be home. She wasn't going to let Natasha ruin her day. She managed to avoid Natasha all day and nearly sprinted to the impala when Dean pulled up in front of the school.
"Hey, kiddo." Dean said.
Taylor was slower but thankful for the direct ride home.
"Hey, how was the day?" Dean asked.
Taylor shrugged. "Good."
Dean put the car in drive. "Kate?"
"Good. I'm glad you're back." Kate said.
Dean offered to take them to get something to eat but Taylor declined. "What's gotten into you?"
Taylor shrugged again. "Nothing. I just have an essay to write."
Dean tapped his fingers along the steering wheel. "Alright then."
Kate was bubbly and asked Dean about the rest of his trip. She told him about her day and begrudgingly told him about Natasha.
"Did she say anything to you?" Dean asked.
"No. I pretty much avoided her." Kate said.
"She is in your grade, right?" Dean asked Taylor.
"Yeah, I basically said hi. She said they moved to another house. She moved schools." Taylor said.
Dean caught the slightest edge to Taylor's voice and assumed he was annoyed that Natasha was there as well.
Taylor excused himself. "I'm going to go work on my essay."
Dean waved him off and got a drink from the fridge. "Let me know if she messes with you."
Kate smiled. "I will. Although, I can totally kick her butt."
Dean tweaked Kate's nose. "No fighting."
"Lame." Kate said.
"Fly under the radar."
"I was just saying I could kick her butt. I didn't say I was going to." Kate said.
"Have a seat. Talk to me about that vision." Dean said. He knew that saving him had given Kate some peace but he also knew that she had seen some things.
Kate sighed. She told him everything she saw and chewed on her thumbnail.
"I'm sorry that you had to see that. Lacy died?" He had a pit in his stomach.
"Yes. I'm sorry." Kate said.
"Don't apologize. You saved us. You saved a lot of people." Dean said.
"Well, Caleb did." Kate said.
Dean rolled his eyes. "His ego has grown tenfold."
Kate smiled. "He did tackle the guy."
"You did good, kid." Dean said.
Caleb picked Andy up from school and walked up the steps to collect him from his teacher. He winced when Andy jumped to hug him. "Hey, bud."
Andy was all smiles. He met eyes with Jimmy Moris and looked smug.
Jimmy stuck his tongue out at Andy.
Andy tried to wiggle free from Caleb's arms but a sharp. "Andrew." made him stop.
"Andy, don't feed into it." Caleb said.
Andy sighed. "He won't stop saying I don't have a dad."
Caleb put him down and took his hand. "Let's go say hi."
Andy held Caleb's hand and walked toward Jimmy. "Hi, Jimmy."
Jimmy crossed his arms. "He isn't your dad."
Caleb crouched down. "My name is Caleb."
Jimmy snorted.
"I'm not Andy's biological dad. That is okay. He is so cool that I decided to be his bonus dad." Caleb said.
Jimmy lost some of his smugness.
"Now, I know you have called him names and you have chosen to be mean to him about not having a dad. That is not okay. Some kids lose parents and it is sad. I lost my mom and dad. So, sometimes family looks different than what yours may look like."
Jimmy didn't like Caleb's tone, although it wasn't overly stern. "Okay."
"Since I am Andy's bonus dad, I'm going to ask you to stop being mean to him. He will be nice to you and I expect you to be nice to him. No more calling him names." Caleb said.
Jimmy studied his shoes.
"You two boys can shake on it." Caleb said.
Andy extended his hand to shake Jimmy's hand.
Jimmy shook Andy's hand but didn't apologize.
Andy buckled his seatbelt. "You are my bonus dad?"
"Sure." Caleb said. "Your mom and I talked about it. You have all kinds of bonus family. Dean can be like a bonus uncle."
Andy liked that idea. "You think I'm cool?"
Caleb chuckled. "Yes."
Andy smiled. "I think you are cool too."
"Thanks." Caleb said.
Dean knocked on the doorway to Bobby's office. "Has Taylor been off?"
Bobby put his book down again. "Not terribly off."
"I'm going to talk to him." Dean said. After Kate's admission of how dark her thoughts could be, he didn't want to leave Taylor hanging. He knocked on the bedroom door and walked in when Taylor said to. "Hey, is anything on your mind?"
Taylor shook his head. "Homework."
"Are you sure?" Dean asked.
Taylor put his pencil down. "Yes, I'm sure."
Dean sat down on the bed. "Taylor, I'm just checking in. Kate and I had a long talk the other day. She was struggling with some dark thoughts and I want to make sure you aren't doing the same."
Taylor turned his chair around. "Dean, I'm not Kate. You don't need to micromanage me."
Dean put his hands up. "Suit yourself. Just know I am around if you want to talk."
Taylor went back to his essay.
Dean sighed. Either Taylor had something on his mind or the teenage angst was setting in. Taylor was finally starting to understand that they weren't going to kick him out at the drop of a hat. Comfort meant that he could test boundaries and be a normal teenager. Normal teenagers sucked.
Kate looked through her notebook. She did that once or twice a day to try to make sense of the endless lines and squiggles. She thought of it as standing in an area and spinning in a circle while trying to remember details. Certain details would be discernable but most would be a blur. Her drawings were a blur. Most of her thoughts were a blur. She found Dean when he came back down the stairs. "Hey, can you help me with something?"
Dean nodded. "What is it?"
"I want to try to figure out what some of these drawings are. I want to do a search." Kate said.
"That typically ends poorly." Dean said.
"Sometimes it does. I wanted you to stay by me." Kate said.
Dean sighed. "Okay. Taylor is holed up in your room so you can use my bed." He told Bobby what Kate was going to do and then followed her up the stairs. "Don't dig too deep."
Kate sat down on his bed. "Digging deep is the whole point."
"You know what I mean." Dean said. "I just got you back from the edge."
"I will be careful." Kate assured him.
Dean fluffed his pillow and told her to lay down. "How do I yank you out of there if things go south?"
Kate squeezed his hand. "Shake me like you are trying to wake me up. If that doesn't work, just tell Taylor."
Kate found her stream. She sat down and closed her eyes. The sound of the water was relaxing. It trickled and lapped at the rocks and edges of the stream. She wondered if it was a real stream somewhere. Did it have meaning beyond a calming place to sit? She slipped her shoes off and stepped into a shallow part of the stream. She turned against the flow of water and dipped her hands in. "Okay, magical water, where do I go from here?" She felt the current grow stronger and walked along the stream until she found a dirt path leading from the stream. She followed the path, wishing that she had picked up her shoes before she left the stream. She felt a gentle wind around her. Soft voices were carried on the wind but she couldn't understand them.
"Gabriel, if you are out there, can you give me a sign? Why did you make us? What is the end game?" Kate asked.
The wind picked up and uncovered a design along the ground.
Kate recognized it from some of her drawings. "What does this mean?" She stood on a large rock to get a better view of the design. Maybe, when she woke up, she could view it more easily.
Dean saw Kate open her eyes. "What did you find?"
Kate yawned. "I guess the answer is in the drawings."
Dean handed her the notebook. "Which ones are we ripping out?"
Kate scrunched her nose. "Removing carefully." She pulled the pages out and taped them along Dean's wall. It took her a few minutes but she got them organized the way they were in the vision.
Dean scratched his head. "I've got nothing."
"Me either." Kate said. She sighed deeply. "I guess one day it will click."

Days went by and Friday rolled around.
"I'm going to Nate's after school." Taylor said.
Dean rocked his chair back. "You are or are you asking if you can?"
Taylor put his backpack on his shoulder. "Can I go or not?"
"Well, if you are going to use that tone.."
Taylor sighed. "Can I please go to Nate's this weekend?"
"Yeah." Dean said.
"Can I walk home with him after school?" Taylor asked.
Dean rubbed his face. "Sure."
Kate asked if she could go too.
"Or Ellie could come here. You don't have to follow me every single place I go." Taylor said.
Kate scoffed. "Ellie is my friend. It isn't my fault that she is Nate's sister."
Taylor rolled his eyes. "Just go next weekend."
Dean whistled to break up the small argument. "Taylor, cool it. Kate, you can go next weekend."
Kate sighed. "Okay."
Caleb was feeling a lot better. The soreness in the stitches was fading. He had been injured far worse, far too many times. He was at the kitchen table drinking a cup of coffee when he heard Andy start to kick up.
"Mom, I don't want to wear that." Andy whined.
"Andy, your other jacket is dirty. This one fits." April said.
"I don't like that one." Andy said.
"You just have to wear it one day while I get your other one clean."
Andy crossed his arms. "Then you should have washed it last night. I'm not wearing that one."
April looked up and saw Caleb.
Caleb cleared his throat. "Andy."
Andy bounced on his toes. "I don't want to wear that jacket."
"You do not talk to her like that. You are perfectly capable of putting your own clothes in the washer. You are going to wear the back up jacket." Caleb said.
Andy sat down on his bed. "I don't want to."
"That sucks. You need to stay warm. Now, put the jacket on and get ready for school." Caleb said.
Andy didn't like that jacket. It was brown and ugly.
"Andrew, get up and put the jacket on." Caleb said.
Andy eyed him for a moment before putting the jacket on.
April zipped the jacket. "There you go. Did you brush your teeth?"
"Yes." Andy said with a pout.
"You can handle Ian. I'll get Andy to school." Caleb said.
April kissed his cheek and went to get Ian dressed.
Caleb gave Andy a look. "What is up with you?"
"I don't like this jacket."
"No, it isn't about the jacket. Why are you giving your mom a hard time?" Caleb asked.
Andy flopped back on his bed. "All she does is nag. Blah blah blah."
Caleb pulled Andy up and landed six hard swats on his backside. "You will straighten up, do you hear me?"
Andy sniffled. "Yes."
"She isn't nagging you. She asked you nicely to put the coat on. Not everyone even has a coat. So, lose the attitude and treat her with some respect." Caleb said.
Andy rubbed away the sting. "Okay."
Caleb shook his head. "That should be a yes sir not an okay."
Andy frowned. "Yes, sir."
Caleb softened a little. "Why don't you like that jacket?"
"It is brown and ugly." Andy said.
Caleb pinched the bridge of his nose. "Andy, what color is my jacket?"
Andy thought about it. "Brown." He looked down at his jacket. "It isn't cool like my blue one."
"I know you like the blue one but it is dirty. If you put your boots on, you'll look like me and Dean."
Andy looked at his feet. "Can you lace them for me?"
"Yeah, no problem." Caleb said. He got the boots and put them on Andy's feet. "Apologize to your mom on the way out."
Andy ran up to April and hugged her. "I'm sorry I was rude."
April kissed his forehead. "Be good at school today."
Caleb dropped Andy off and went to Bobby's house.
Dean opened the door for him. "So, what is the story with the club?"
"The shooter was a disgruntled former employee." Caleb said. "He got fired a few days before."
"Huh, how'd he wind up as a meat suit?" Dean asked.
Caleb shrugged. "No idea."
Bobby placed Caleb's spare bullet on the counter. "There is nothing in or on that that would kill a demon."
Caleb picked it up and rolled it around in his hand. "This is what my gun was loaded with."
"Are you sure you saw the demon flicker out?" Dean asked.
"I am pretty sure." Caleb said. "He was possessed. I am absolutely sure of that."
"I couldn't get anything from the investigation," Bobby said. "I'd like to see the other bullet."
"Have Rufus pose as a fed." Dean said.
Bobby smacked the back of his head. "Why didn't I think of that? It isn't like I've been doing this job longer than you've been alive. Idgit."
Dean rubbed his head. "Hey, this isn't our usual case."
"I am just glad the bullet worked." Caleb said.
"How is April?" Bobby asked.
Caleb rubbed his face. "Andy is giving her hell."
"Now, what would he do that for?" Bobby asked.
"He does every now and then. I did the same to my poor mother." Caleb said. "Although, my dad was a lot harder on me."
"You are doing good by him." Bobby said.
"Ian is a ball of energy that is dead set on pulling things over on himself." Caleb said.
"Oh, so like Sam at that age." Dean said.
"Yeah, something like that. How are your two?" Caleb asked.
"Kate is good. She is still trying to figure out what her drawings mean. Taylor is... a pill lately." Dean said.
"He and Andy would be good company." Caleb said.
Dean pulled a face. "We really are lame."
Bobby snorted.
Kate was ruffled because Taylor was being a bit of a jerk but sometimes they got tired of each other. It was no big deal. She went about her day until lunch and got shoulder checked by Natasha in the hallway. She held her shoulder. "Excuse me."
Natasha scoffed. "Watch where you are going."
Kate bit her tongue. It was obvious that Natasha went out of her way to run into her. She just nodded and continued walking.
Taylor was more than ready for a weekend at Nate's house. He didn't have any good reason to want space except for just wanting to spend time with an old friend.
Kate approached him. "Natasha ran into me in the hallway."
Taylor looked at her. "What did you do?"
"Nothing. I stayed calm. I just wanted you to know."
Taylor sighed. "Let me know if she does anything else. Okay?"
Kate felt better that Taylor at least cared about that.
During gym, Kate was annoyed that Natasha was there. They played dodge ball which she was pretty good at. She let a few hit her so that she didn't stand out too much but when a particularly hard ball came at her face, she had to react and catch it. She made eye contact with Natasha and knew she was the one that had thrown it. She took a deep breath. At least Natasha had to sit out that round since Kate caught the ball.
Taylor checked on Kate before walking home with Nate. "Serves her right. She'd have gotten out if she hit you in the face anyway."
"Yeah, but that would have hurt."
Taylor chuckled. "Well, good catch."
Kate skipped down the steps. She opened the front door of the impala. "I could get used to riding shotgun."
"I was thinking we'd stop by the diner." Dean said.
"To treat me to a milkshake or to hang out with Lacy?"
Dean smiled. "I can do both at the same time."
Kate pulled a folder out of her bag. "Look at this. I got a 115 on a test."
Dean looked at it. "How did you get the extra 15?"
"Bonus problems." Kate said. "I also did a bonus work before the test."
Dean fist-bumped her. "Look at you being a model student."
She grinned. "I figured I'd get a good handle on my grades and assignments. I have been working ahead."
"That is great. You should probably tell Sam. That is his kind of thing." Dean said.
Kate sat back in her seat and watched the trees go by. "Taylor is annoyed with me."
"Why?"
"I don't know. That is a normal sibling thing, right?" Kate asked.
Dean nodded. "Sam and I were at each other's throats more often than not. Taylor will get over whatever is on his mind."
Kate hoped so.
Ellie had to run to keep up with Nate and Taylor. She wanted Kate to come over too but Nate and Taylor both said no. Older brothers were annoying.
Nate unlocked the door and tossed his shoes by the door. "Do you want a snack?"
"I could eat." Taylor said and dropped his shoes beside Nate's.
Alice greeted them. "Hey, Taylor. What do you guys want to eat?"
Nate spoke over Taylor. "Pizza rolls."
Taylor nodded in agreeance.
"I'll let you guys know when they are done." Alice said. She had Ellie help her and sent the boys away.
Taylor fell back onto Nate's bed.
"We should walk up to the barn this weekend." Nate said.
Taylor sat up. "The one David was at?"
"Yeah, why not?" Nate said. "The cult was run out by the cops."
Taylor shrugged. "That doesn't mean it is safe."
Nate leaned against his desk. "Aren't you half angel or something?"
Taylor motioned for him to be quiet. "You aren't supposed to know that."
Nate smirked. "So, we go check it out. If they are there, we don't go in. If they aren't there, what is the harm in looking?"
"I'm not supposed to go up there." Taylor said.
Nate rolled his eyes. "No one would know."
Taylor bounced his leg. "How would we even get there? Your mom is home all weekend."
Nate looked at him like he had grown an extra head. "We leave and tell her we will be back later."
Taylor had forgotten how easy it was to come and go when the house wasn't guarded by hunters. "Okay. Let's do it."
