Off the coast of Hong Kong, a beast of myth slowly moves itself away from the scene of its most recent clash. The 120-metre behemoth slowly moves its tail in a side-to-side rhythm. Its fatigue showing in its pace, the monstrous Godzilla could do with a good rest on the bottom of a geologically active deep-sea floor to rest and recuperate.

Thoughts of its previous brawl slowly pierced through his tired mind, the alpha titan weighed its options on what to do with the newly appeared threat of Kong. The ape did aid in the defeat of the lifeless mimicry of him, but only after an already long and difficult brawl between the two of them. In the end, the old lizard decided to leave the smaller titan to wander the realm below, a region he preferred to steer clear of in case of accidentally releasing the rest of the apes he trapped millennia before. Thoughts of the recent emergence of all his old rivals didn't help his cloudy mind.

Slowly the muscles in the monster's neck turned his head to face the shore he had just left to give one final look at his previous adversary, only to leave him much further in confusion. The shore that should still be well within eyesight cannot be seen on the horizon. Perhaps he moved faster than he believed and had simply forgotten how much shallow embankment surrounded this region of coast. It mattered little as the experienced marine explorer shifted his course towards the active volcanic sites nearby, with a pit stop on an island roughly halfway along the journey.

….

….

The eternity of waiting pushed the titanic beast to the edge of its senses. He had travelled for what seemed to be twice the time taken to reach his final destination and yet he still hadn't spotted the islands of his respite. The sea floor seemed to finally begin to rise again after an extended period of deeper ocean, giving hope that land would be close by. The beast soldiered on.

Eventually, the king of the monsters finally reached the shores of the island humans would call Luzon. His steps onto bare sand fell highly triumphantly but also with greater fatigue than had been seen exiting the ruins of Hong Kong. Unexpectedly long distances don't bode well for an already worn-down reptile. His head raised to the sky, eyes filled with memories of times gone by peered across the landscape to verify his location after such a disastrous lapse in his global oceanographic map.

This led to even greater mental strife as things began twisting the titan's memories, as some things looked so familiar and others completely out of place. The mountains and hills that surrounded him seemed too large for the island he had frequented less than 500 years previously, and yet the shape and colouration matched completely. Trees that swayed below him also met the standard of his memory. His head began trying to rationalise why the mountain on an island would grow numerous times bigger and yet retain its shape in such a short time, but no answer seemed to satisfy the travelled creature. Eventually, too exhausted from his prior experience during the day, a living mountain of muscle curled into a ball across the soft sand and waited for his strength to return to him.

Dreamless sleep passed him by, as the sun set over the horizon and the Luna orbit made its own trek across the night's sky. The waves that lapped against the shore began to pick up in strength as the ocean slowly advanced on the breathing mountain before it. To any observer, these events would be seen as extreme and dangerous, but the titan barely stirred from his slumber, the waves doing little to disturb his rest.

By the sun's rise, giant footfalls could be heard echoing throughout the shore. Godzilla slowly pushed himself from his resting position to continue his journey to better respite. With meaningful steps, the beast lumbered towards the moving edge of the ocean. Through the groggy confines of his head the thought that the shore was significantly further away than it was just before his rest appeared to him. He quickly placed the thought in the back of his mind.

"What would the moth think of me now, brought low by a few small scrapes and hallucinating shifting landscapes? Maybe it's best they aren't here to see me at this moment."

The behemoth slowly entered the waves and breached the ocean's depths. His movement poised for the active trenches that dominate the Philippine sea.

After a few hours, he could see the signs that his destination was close to appearing in sight. Though he could have sworn it didn't take this long to reach it from his previous resting place. Either way his well needed rest would soon be in his reach as the water around him began to get noticeably warmer.

Over the edge of a ridge that appeared in front of him came the visible bubbling of geothermal vents that he desired. His body still worn from his conflicts the day prior, sunk to the bottom to reach as much healing warmth and energy as possible. While he sunk to the sea floor, a figure moved within the murky depths, unnoticed by the massive kaiju. Slowly, the alpha titan drifted into a deeper rest.

A disturbance in the form of a challenging roar awakened the sleeping giant from his rest a few hours later. Completely unexpected as the ruling titan was sure no other creature lived in the area that would even attempt such a preposterous notion to challenge him. Upon rising to his feet, he looked upon something that he thought he would never see since ages long past; another of his kind standing a mere kilometre in front of him, standing tall in a show of strength and defiance.
