Chapter 1

Rin was quickly gathering her things for school before her mother started on her again about going to school to become a writer. She didn't like the idea that Rin was going to school for something petty in her eyes. That of course upset Rin to think her mother thought she wouldn't amount to anything. She grabbed her bag and slung it over her shoulder.

"RIN!" Her mother screeched in anger, that would make anyone's ears ring with how loud the screeching was.

Rin let out a breath, closing her eyes. She turned her head only to feel a harsh sting of her palm meeting the side of her face. Her head snapped to the side harshly. She felt tears form in her eyes. She wouldn't dare give her mother the satisfaction of seeing her cry. She turned her head to look at her mother. "Yes, mother." She said softly, keeping her voice from wavering.

"You are going to do what I tell you to do." Her mother demanded her.

Rin looked into her blue eyes. Rin knew for a while that there was something off with her family. Her hair color and eye color didn't match her siblings or her parents' hair color. So she had an inkling of what was going on. She was not their daughter. She guessed it was her fascination with books and not into sports like she should have been. She was into archery and swordplay which was not normal for girls in her family or so she thought. "I am not. I am 21 now. You can not order me around. I am in college for what I love." She blew up. She had never lost her cool with her parents, but she had enough. She was tired of her mother being a bitch towards her. She just wanted to live her life and do what she wanted to do in school.

"To be a writer. You won't amount to anything by being an author!" She shouted.

She huffed knowing that she thought that and quite honestly she didn't care. She backed away from her and looked into her blue eyes with her golden brown ones. "I don't care what you say. I have to go or I am going to be late for class." She told her before shuffling around her and heading towards the front door.

"If you walk out that door don't even bother coming back home."

She finally gave Rin the ultimatum. She should have known that she would give me such a thing. She held my breath as she opened the door and walked out of the door. She slammed it shut and began to walk to school. This was the second time that she had threatened her with that and she just didn't care anymore. She just kind of wished that she would keep true to her word, but her father would not allow that because she was 21 and had no place to go in London, England.

"Don't ever come back, you ungrateful harlot!" Rin heard her scream. That was the first time that she had called her such a thing.

She wandered down the street clutching onto the straps of her plaid bookbag. Her cheek hurt like hell and she knew that it was probably going to be a bruise by the time that she got to her lit class and she would be questioned for having such a mark on her face. She was just going to have to cover it up with the makeup that she carried in her bookbag. She also was trying to hold the tears back from falling down her cheeks. She would not allow that woman to be the one to rule what she would do in her life.

She didn't even want to meet up with her friends from college. She didn't want them to be questioning her as they had done in the past. She didn't want them to know that her mother had hit her again. Besides, she needed time to blow off the steam that she had gotten from fighting with her mother. She didn't want to blow up on someone that she saw as a friend. She continued on her way towards her college in hopes that she would make it before it rained.

She made it to her school and walked inside quickly. She went into the bathroom and pulled her backpack off of her shoulders. She dug around in it and found the makeup that she would use to cover up the bruise that was now forming on her cheek. She began to blend the makeup in with her natural skin tone covering the ugly shiner that she had gotten. She didn't even realize how hard she had hit her.

She left the bathroom after making sure that her makeup was done right and began to walk towards her class. People think that college is different from high school, but it isn't. Not really. The only thing that is different about college and high school is that college doesn't have lockers in the hallways. The halls of course are always crowded with college students who didn't want to go to class just yet, but the bell system would tell them that it was time to go to classes.

She opened the door to her English Lit class and her world went black.

"It is time for you to come home and find out who you are." A woman's voice was the only thing that she could hear.
