Author's Note: The characters friends with the OC are actually characters from the Kingdom Hearts games. Only difference is: they all are normal people with cat-like bodies and were born and grew up in families. Not all KH characters are here, just the ones I like the best and thought would make this SWAT Kat fanfic interesting. For instance, Sora and Kairi won't be starring here. And no, Disney characters will not be here, either.
I hope you all like this concept well enough. Here's who all is a part of this crew: Riku, Namine`, Xion, Selphie, Wakka, and Tidus. The last three will be dressed like in the first game, and Namine` will dress like she did in the CoM. Riku will look like he did in the second KH. Xion will dress like she did in the ending of the third KH.
Anywho, please enjoy, and God Jehovah bless.
Mysterious Calls & Letter
The club opened a few days as Rosella promised Jake and Chance. It opened at six in the evening, welcoming everyone for its opening night.
The she-kat stepped out to greet the boys before introducing them to the friends she made on the islands: Namine`, Riku, Xion, Wakka, Tidus, and Selphie.
"Hey, nice to meet ya both," Wakka grinned, having a Jamaican accent.
"We've heard so much about you," Selphie smiled with her hands behind her back, an expression as warm as the sun from the islands.
"Likewise," Jake nodded, the two toms shaking their hands. "Rosella's been writing to us everything about you guys."
The club owners showed them inside to a table in a corner close to the stage to watch the singing and dancing and eating good food and milk.
The club was a big hit, everyone leaving with big smiles on their faces, laughing on their way to their vehicles in the parking lot to the owners' joy as they congratulated each other on a good job for their first night.
"I hope you two had a fun time yourselves," Rosella said to the guys on their way to the exit.
"We sure did. The best time," Chance assured with a thumbs up.
"Yeah, you can bet we're gonna be comin' here often," Jake guaranteed, his left hand on Rosella's right shoulder to her quiet modesty. "And really, though, seeing you back in town has really brought up our spirits."
"Same here, Jake," she nodded sincerely, watching them wave to her on their way to their truck as she stood at the door waving back, her best female friend Namine` looking through the window, noticing all night the way she kept looking at Jake Clawson…
Jake and Chance met up with Rosella and everyone at lunch the next day, getting to know each other even better now that everyone was free.
"So, you all and Rosella went to college together?" Jake asked, everyone sitting in the club parking lot that was mostly vacant save for their own vehicles.
"Yeah, and goofing off in our spare time," Selphie added.
"Yeah, explorin', hangin' out at the beach," Rosella grinned. "Best time of our lives."
"How we envy your freedom," Chance remarked.
Suddenly, Jake felt a vibration in his left pants pocket. "Uh, Chance, we gotta go, I think we're getting a call from our regular customer," he hinted.
"Oh, yeah, sorry, Rosie, but we've gotta roll," Chance apologized, looking like the both of them were in a hurry. "This can't wait."
"Oh? Well, we understand," Rosella acknowledged.
"We'll see you two next time," Riku assured.
"Yeah, you bet. Bye," Jake called, slipping into the passenger seat before Chance drove.
The russet-furred mechanic answered the secret call from the deputy mayor on their way, speaking as Razor. "Sorry for the late answer, Miss Briggs. Long lunch break. Anything wrong?"
"Big time," Calico Briggs explained solemnly and quietly, hiding in her office so no one else in City Hall could see her make the emergency call to the SWAT Kats, using her communicator they had given her long ago. "It's the Metallikats again."
"Oh, great, what's the 'Happy' Couple of the Century up to now?" Chance asked as T-Bone, displeased two old nemeses of theirs had interrupted their break with their childhood friend and new friends.
Rosella and the gang were about to go inside, but she saw something on the lot where Chance and Jake's truck was parked.
"Oh, no, the guys left something behind. You all go on in without me. I'm gonna return this to them at their garage real quick."
She did as she intended but saw a sign on their door that they were closed.
"But they said they had a call from a customer… Maybe the call was from downtown, but… they would've written that if that was the case…"
She was not liking this. Were they…lying? No, they would never, but the way they sounded before they left. Still, Jake did receive a sort of call.
This weirded her out. She shook her head and decided to just leave the object on their doorstep before leaving a message of her own with a small sticky notepad and a pen she kept her pink purse, then she returned to the club.
Whatever the guys were up to, it was their business.
That evening, Rosella was lying down in a room above the club which was her and her friends' temporary home. She called Jake to check on him and Chance.
"I hope you got my note on my door," she said, her left hand behind her head.
"Yeah, thanks for dropping by. It saved us the trip from coming back to your parking lot."
"Sure… mind if I ask where you were? You said you had a call from your regular customer, but you weren't at the garage."
"Oh, well, the call was from in town."
She was right, but she was concerned because of Metallikats' wild time in MegaKat City. "Well, are you two all right?" she questioned, sitting up. She knew of the awful androids and of Mac's just-as-awful driving.
"Yeah, yeah, we weren't in the middle of it."
Rosella sighed, lying back down. "Good. Yeah, we heard no one was hurt. Although, I'm afraid that means more vehicles to repair. That Mac, among other things, is infamous for his lousy driving."
"Yeah, Chance and I are gonna have our hands full tomorrow, but at least it'll mean the faster we pay off the Enforcers."
"Frankly, it's any wonder Molly lets her husband touch a steering wheel at all. Like to know where they got a new hovercraft."
"Who knows? But you're right, Molly should just do the driving herself."
"I also hear they're not exactly a happily married couple. I know they're criminals raised from the hood, but still…"
"Don't even try to figure people like them out, Rosella, some mysteries can't be solved."
"Like the identities of the SWAT Kats?" she grinned.
"Yeah, luckily, none of the crooks or the Enforcers have found out, and by the Enforcers, I mean Commander Feral."
"Yes, I know how much he disagrees with their style, unlike Lieutenant Feral. I mean, I know it's a lot of trouble makin' repairs for collateral damage, but at least not too many people get hurt… or worse."
"Exactly, and insurance, including life insurance doesn't bring people back from the dead."
"No, but according to the stories, certain long-gone bad guys did come back from the grave. I can't believe ghosts like the court jester that possessed Lenny Ringtail and the ghost pilot the Red Lynx haunted the town. Not to mention the repeated villain, the undead sorcerer the Pastmaster."
"From what we heard from Dr. Sinian, guys like them lost their bodies but their hatred for their enemies never died."
"That explains it… And yet the Pastmaster keeps comin' back?"
"That's a mystery the SWAT Kats would give anything to solve."
"He's not the only frequent bad guy. …You know, I just can't understand how one town could have a multitude of perils? You'd think MegaKat City is cursed."
"Well, if it was, it wouldn't have guys like the SWAT Kats to help with the cause."
"Yeah, but all the same, we're all gonna stick to the club. We don't want to take chances. We're only stayin' temporarily, plus the guys aren't used to a big city and neither am I now."
"We understand, but we hope to see you guys as much as possible."
"Sure, there's nothin' we'd like more," she smiled sincerely.
It was after Jake told Rosella good night and hung up the phone in the garage waiting room when he leaned back against the sofa, sighing in relief he had eluded Rosella's suspicions of their absence from their body shop. He frowned as he stared at the ceiling, not comfortable with having to trick and deceive an old friend.
"What's wrong, buddy? Are Rosella and them okay?" Chance asked, stepping in.
"Yeah, they're perfectly fine. I… just don't like what we're doing."
"Doing what?"
"Lying. Chance, we've never lied to Rosella before. Four years later, she comes back and we're lying to her face about where we suddenly go after getting mysterious calls."
"Well, Jake, what can we say? I mean, we have secret identities for a reason," the big tabby reminded, sitting down on a chair. "We can't tell Rosie. We can't tell anyone. Heck, we can't even tell Callie, and she has a communicator from us for emergencies like today, and that's risky enough for her. Anyone who knows who we are would be in as much danger as we would be."
"I know we have to keep our second job under wraps or else we're either as good as arrested by Feral or as good as dead at night by the closest criminal. It's just… well, we're the closest to family Rosella's got in this city… and I just feel like we're betraying her trust with this."
"We're not betraying her; we're protecting her and everyone else. It's for everyone's own good. Yes, we're bein' dishonest but for very good reasons."
"But how long can we keep up the disappearing acts and excuses? She's not stupid, Chance. She's always solved things out."
"No, she's not stupid, but she hasn't figured it out after all this time, has she?"
"That's mostly 'cause she's been living far away and busy with her new life across the ocean. She hasn't had much time or been close enough to put the pieces together."
"Then, we're gonna lie and excuse our way out of her radar as hard as we can and have to and will," he said, firmly but reasonably, listing by lifting three of his left fingers. "We don't have a choice. You want her to get killed by someone who would do anything to kill us in our own base?"
"No," Jake answered, putting his hands on his face before leaning against his seat, feeling helpless as he wiped his paws down his muzzle. "No, of course I don't," he sighed, shaking his head.
"Then we do and say whatever we've got to."
"All right, I hate it, but it's non-negotiable."
Some days afterward, the islanders got to meet Lieutenant Felina Feral herself when she came to check out their club one night. They all got along with her just fine and vice versa and all became fast friends.
Two days later, Rosella stood at the club's door, reading a letter from… City Hall? The redhead tilted her head in curious bewilderment. What did anyone from City Hall want with her?
She read the letter that said, "Miss Rosella Pearl, His Honor Mayor Manx requests for your presence at MegaKat City Hall to negotiate a time and place for you and your associates to assist with a catering for special guests".
"Guests? What kind of guests?" She kept reading the rest. "'We insist your arrival will be this afternoon at 2:00'."
She looked at her pink watch that was embedded with small, fake but beautifully decorated seashells and starfish that was a gift from her sea-loving friend Xion.
"This is really sudden, it's in 45 minutes… Well, all right, if His Honor insists…" Still, even as she got in her car, she didn't understand. How did anyone from City Hall know about her, her friends and their club?
And why would they ask people who had just moved from their island home and recently settled their club and home to cater just like that?
Did they hear about them from the people who visited the club? This was still all felt very weird.
If she recalled correctly, the deputy mayor Miss Calico Briggs, who pretty much got stuck doing everything for that silly old tom, would have to have been the first one to know about this, assuming it was the mayor's idea.
Whosever idea it was, the white she-kat did not like being this deep into the city. In fact, along with Puma-Dyne, MegaKat Biochemical labs and other places like research facilities and power plants and banks, MegaKat City Hall had the most unwanted attention.
"And… I think this city is due for an attack any time…" Rosella pronounced to herself gravely, shuddering from being anywhere near criminal assaults. "Well, I'll be careful, and if I'm lucky, I may get to see the SWAT Kats in their awesome jet."
She pulled up to the City Hall building, flexing her fingers on her steering wheel as she took a deep breath, praying everything would be fine.
Still, though, she got out that second, wanting to get this over with as fast as possible and return to the sanctuary of the club.
Luckily, Rosella saw the deputy mayor herself stepping out.
"Oh, good," she whispered to herself, "she can help me right away." She reached up her left hand as she kept walking up the steps. "Excuse me, Miss Deputy Mayor Briggs. Hi, I'm Rosella Pearl," she introduced herself, feeling shy since she had never spoken with a politician before even though she knew all about her and the mayor and many folks from this town from all the TV news and such. "It's an honor," she said honestly, shaking hands.
"Well, thanks, and it's nice to meet you. Is there anything I can help you with?"
"I…sure hope you can," she replied, pulling out the letter. "I had just read this several minutes ago at this club my friends and I own and live at, and it said Mayor Manx wanted to discuss with me about a catering for guests?"
"Wait, what? Catering?" the blond she-kat blinked, completely astounded.
Okay, Rosella did not like this. Judging by Manx's second-in-command's expression, then not only did she not know anything about this, but that also meant the mayor never…
The mystery was interrupted by the sound of lasers being shot from above, citizens yelling and fleeing in terror from the looks of a ship that looked like the kind MegaKat City's worst criminal was known to ride in.
Dark Kat.
And his ship was flying straight for City Hall, a sort of missile holding a net about to deploy and aimed at the deputy mayor herself.
Terrified for Miss Briggs's life, Rosella dropped the letter and hastily pushed her back inside the building, shutting the door in hopes at least she would be safe before she looked over her left shoulder to see if the monstrous Dark Kat hidden inside his ship would keep trying to get to his political hostage.
Instead, her heart sank when she ended up caught and covered in the black missile net and pulled straight up inside the demon's atrocious aircraft.
The violent, violet demon himself in his cockpit saw the capture and nodded in satisfaction. "Just as I anticipated. Then I have no more business with City Hall. Time for other places to visit to attend my…errands," he announced, setting the new coordinates on before the ship took off on autopilot. "Creeplings, don't just stand there, help our passenger get settled in," he instructed to his pink imp-like minions, talking like a "gracious" host, indicating his cane to the door.
They garbled in response before obeying as always.
"But gently, my pets, gently, I have plans for our young guest." * (Reference)
Callie Briggs watched in horror on the floor as the ship took off with the wrong captive.
"I have to call the SWAT Kats right now," she whispered to herself, immediately looking for a private room to make the call. "If anyone is likely to be killed today, it's Dark Kat's incorrect prisoner." Her blood chilled as she grimaced in remorse since that net was aimed for her… or so she assumed.
Can anyone tell me the reference when Dark Kat gave orders to his Creeplings? I'll give you a hint: It's a line similar to another animated villain ~. Anywho, hope you like and I hope you're not too upset with cliffhanger. See ya next time, and God Jehovah bless.
