The next week was a busy one for Luz. She dedicated a few hours every day to training with Eda outside to further hone her werewolf powers. It was a slow and tedious process, a lot slower than what she would have wanted. It turned out some parts of her body were far more difficult to control than her hands. Some of them she couldn't seem to get the feel for no matter how hard she tried, and that wasn't even getting into transforming multiple parts of her body at once. It was incredibly frustrating, but the human witch didn't let it get to her. She was still making progress after all, so she knew she just had to be patient.

Besides, there were other things she needed to tend to at the moment. Only a couple days after she started her training, she found out that there was an awkward side effect to the process. Now that she was allowing her curse to flow through her body, it was starting to spasm at random times, causing partial transformations to occur against her will. One time when the Blight family came to visit her, she greeted them all with a hug, only for her claws to spring out and rip Emira's dress. She was very embarrassed, but the green haired witch just laughed it off, saying it was no big deal.

Eda also assured her apprentice that this was normal and that it would stop as she practiced more, but it was still very annoying for the human witch, and she tried everything she could to keep it under control. So far though, she hadn't had much luck.

Today, it started the second she woke up. As she sat up and yawned, her canines doubled in length and became very sharp, cutting her bottom lip in the process.

"Son of a…!" She growled as she flinched at the pain.

"You okay?" Amity said with concern as she also sat up. Ever since the night Luz was bitten, the purple haired witch had been by her side pretty much the whole time, and refused to let her sleep at night alone. The human witch was incredibly touched by this, and snuggling next to her girlfriend every night made her want to cry. She loved Amity now more than ever, and felt incredibly blessed to have her in her life.

Shaking herself out of her thoughts, Luz nodded.

"Just cut my lip on my teeth. It's fine though. See? It's already healed."

She pulled her lip forward, and indeed the wound had already closed itself up. Amity let out a sigh.

"Thank titan you can heal fast. You worry me enough as is."

"Aww, Amity. I've said this before and I'll say it again, you're the real sweet potato between us."

She kissed her girlfriend on the cheek. The purple haired witch shook her head.

"Nah, you're just as sweet, if not more so."

Her smile suddenly faded however and she looked away, causing Luz to frown.

"What's wrong?" The human witch asked. "Are you worried about my sudden power surges? It's okay. Eda said they'll go away soon."

Amity shook her head. "It's not that. The full moon is only a few weeks away, and we know what that means."

Luz's eyes slightly widened. She had been so focused on her training that she completely forgot about the lunar cycle. "Oh, right. That's when the werewolf's power skyrockets."

"Exactly. We're taking all the precautions possible, and work on the containment chamber is going nicely, but I'm still really nervous. This is going to be far different than anything we've dealt with so far, and I'm not sure if we'll be ready for it."

Luz pursed her lips, because her girlfriend was right. The full moon is when many of the unknown factors Lilith warned them about would take place. So despite everything they were doing, there was no way to know how things were going to play out, and it scared the human witch more than anything. What it didn't do however was deter her.

She nodded and wrapped her arm around Amity. "Yeah, I hear you. I'm pretty nervous too. But I know that no matter what happens, everything will be okay. Even if I wolf out, I know you and everyone else has what it takes to get me under control before I do anything."

To her surprise, this didn't make Amity feel better at all. In fact, she seemed to tense up even more. "I just…don't want to hurt you."

"How do you think I feel? I'm the one who's gonna be the big furry monster." Luz tried to joke. "And we don't even have a giant ball for me to chase either."

Amity suddenly snapped her head towards her. "Are you serious right now?! How the hell can you even use that attitude?!"

The human witch's eyes widened. That response caught her off guard, and it startled Stringbean and Ghost awake.

"What?" She asked.

"You heard me!" Amity yelled. "You were a complete mess when you got cursed, and now all the sudden you're acting like nothing is wrong?!"

"That's not-"

Amity pulled away from her and got out of bed before spinning around to face her.

"Did you just forget what you are now and the potential consequences of it?!"

Luz was flabbergasted. What had gotten into her girlfriend? "What makes you think I have? Of course I remember!"

"Really? Then why are you so willing to just charge into this? Don't you know by now that always gets you in trouble?!"

The human witch froze. She didn't know how to respond to that. "I…I…"

"That's what I thought! This isn't like your titan form, Luz! You're a lycanthrope! And if something goes wrong, you could kill someone!"

"But that's why you're coming up with those countermeasures, to prevent that from happening!"

"Did you just forget what I said before?! It's not a guaranteed success! There's always a chance something terrible will happen, and I know how much that would affect you! I'm afraid you might just…walk away from everything."

Luz gasped. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. "Amity, how could you say that?!" She yelled, shedding tears of her own. "That's not going to happen! You know that!"

"Oh, just stop it!" Amity yelled back. "You're only fooling yourself! Now matter what we do, there is always a chance that will happen, so stop pretending that there isn't! Also, you think you have it hard?! Yes you could kill someone, but at least you wouldn't do it willingly and probably not remember it afterwards! I would however! I would remember every last detail of putting the girl I love out of her misery so she wouldn't have to suffer! How do you think that makes me feel?!"

Luz's eyes widened in horror. "W-What did you say?"

"If you fully lose control, I might not have a choice! I might have to kill you!"

Amity's eyes now widened and she covered her mouth. She instantly regretted saying that. Luz recoiled and turned away like she had been physically struck. Her tears were now streaming down her face.

"Dios mío, what is going on in here?!" Camila shouted as she walked in, having heard the argument.

Amity tried to say something, but no words came out. How could she have said something so hurtful to her girlfriend? In an instant, she burst into tears and ran out the door. Ghost chased after her, meowing and begging for her to come back, but to no avail. Camila stared at the doorway for a moment, confused at what had gotten into the purple haired witch. She then turned to her daughter, who was shaking and had tears streaming down her face. Stringbean was nuzzling her cheek, but she wasn't getting a response.

"What happened?" Camila asked.

"I…I don't know." Luz replied. "Amity just started freaking out at me all the sudden, and she…oh god. D-Does she really think that way? Does she really think she'll have to kill me?"

Camila gasped and instantly ran over to hug her daughter. "Don't you dare think that way, Mija! Even if you do lose control, we've taken far too many precautions to let that happen!"

"That's what I said." Luz choked. "But she wasn't convinced at all. In fact, it seemed to make her more upset."

She was starting to hyperventilate. Everything said during the argument was starting to sink in. "What if she's right, Mamá? What if-"

"Stop it." Camila said firmly. You're going to make your curse flare up."

The human witch immediately went silent. She rarely heard her mother use that tone. But when she did, she knew better than to argue, no matter how upset she was.

Stringbean then went over to the nightstand and brought over one of Luz's vials of medicine.

"Good idea, Stringbean." Camila said. "Take it, Mija. Just in case."

The human witch obeyed and drank the liquid. It wasn't the best thing she ever tasted, but it wasn't the worst either. After that, Camila tilted her daughter's head to face her and spoke again.

"Listen to me. You know Amity doesn't mean any of that. She's just stressed right now. Seeing you go through all of this has been really hard on her, as it has been for all of us, and you can only hold those emotions in for so long."

Luz choked. "Maybe, but she isn't wrong. I really could kill someone if I lose control."

"Luz, be honest with me. Do you really think we will let that happen?"

"No, but-"

"No buts. You're my daughter, and you know I would move heaven and earth to protect you. So when I say we won't let anything bad happen to you or anyone else, it means nothing bad will happen. End of story."

The human witch smiled softly and hugged her mother again, her breathing starting to become more slow and steady. Camila's words had struck the right chord, and they were starting to calm her down.

"Thanks, Mom." She said. "I guess I just forgot how serious things were."

Camila chuckled. "You tend to do that when your confidence goes up. That's probably another reason why Amity is so worried. It makes me worried, that's for sure."

"Ugh. My confidence has always been a double edged sword, has it?"

'Yeah, but that's not really a bad thing.'

They both turned to see Stringbean typing on Luz's phone. 'Having confidence is really good for you. And remember what I told you. It's good to take care of yourself.'

Camila smiled and nodded. "She's absolutely right, Mija. Your confidence is what makes you such a strong person, and I wouldn't have it any other way."

The human witch sighed. "Even so, I really need to stop and think every once in a while."

"We'll worry more about that later. Stringbean, can you get Luz a glass of water from downstairs?"

The snake shifter nodded. 'Sure thing!'

A fourth voice suddenly spoke. "Hey, Luz?"

The trio turned around to see Hooty with a distraught look on his face.

"Amity is outside crying. I don't know what's wrong because she won't talk to me, or anyone else for that matter."

The human witch got up to leave, but Camila stopped her.

"She's too upset to talk to right now." She said. "Give it an hour and then go to her."

Luz didn't want to wait, but she knew her mother was right. So she reluctantly nodded.

"Okay."

….

Amity sat in silence in the front yard of the owl house, petting Ghost and letting out a sob every now and then, her eyes red and puffy from crying. It's true that her girlfriend's condition had taken its toll on her, and she was trying hard to keep it together and stay positive. But when the human witch joked about her curse, in spite of all the dangers present, it made something inside her snap.

Luz's confidence had gotten her into trouble numerous times in the past, many of which had gotten her hurt. This was much more serious however, and Amity thought that it should be treated as such. Even so, she knew that was no excuse to lash out at Luz the way she did. She could tell her words really hurt her girlfriend, and that thought made more tears stream down her face.

"What is wrong with me, Ghost?" She asked. "I promised that I would be there for her, and then I pull this by saying all those hurtful things to her! I…I actually said I might kill her if she lost control! What kind of girlfriend am I?"

Her palisman shook her head and nuzzled against her chest, purring softly, telling her that she wasn't a bad girlfriend, and that she was doing a great job. The purple haired witch found this hard to believe however. If that was the case, then why did she hurt Luz like she did? A good girlfriend would never do that.

A hand on her shoulder snapped her out of her thoughts. And when she turned, she saw Luz looking at her with worried eyes that were also red and puffy.

Amity choked and hugged her. Even after what she said to her, the human witch was still worried more about her than herself.

"I'm so sorry." She said. "I didn't mean any of those terrible things I said. I-I'm just so scared for you right now, and…and…oh, titan."

The human witch nodded as she hugged back. "I know Mi Amor, and I'm sorry too. I should have been more aware of how you felt. I didn't mean to make you upset."

"I still shouldn't have lashed out at you. You have enough going on already."

"Yeah, but so do you, and you are right about one thing. Anything horrible I do as a werewolf would be against my will, and I probably wouldn't remember it. You wouldn't have that privilege though. Titan, I hadn't even considered that. What was I thinking, trying to make a joke out of this?"

Amity shook her head. "You were just trying to do what you do best, make me smile and be happy. You weren't pretending your curse wasn't a big deal, you just weren't letting it keep you down."

Luz nodded. "Yeah. I don't want the burden of being a werewolf to weigh me down any longer, no matter how much it scares me."

"And I should have known that. You always try to find the positive side in everything."

The human witch shook her head. "Not always. Remember when we got stuck in the human realm? I was down in the dumps for a little while. I kept blaming myself for what happened, and thinking of myself as a screwup and a failure. I would cry myself to sleep every night, and then start over the next day. You know what got me through it though?"

She kissed her girlfriend on the cheek and spoke again. "You did. You and everyone else. You were there for me at a time when I needed it most. You made me smile again and helped me get back on my feet, and now you're doing it again. So don't beat yourself up because of one moment you acted out due to stress. You're the best girlfriend I could ever ask for."

Amity shed more tears, happy ones this time, and hugged her girlfriend again. "Thank you, Luz. You're the best girlfriend I could ask for too."

"Anything for you, no amor. Although you had a point with my confidence. I should probably dial it back a little before it gets me into trouble like it always does."

The purple haired witch gave a soft smile. "Oh Luz, if I had a snail for every time that happened, I could double the size of my mansion."

She then cupped her girlfriend's cheek with her hand. "I wouldn't change it for the world though. Those days may have nearly gotten us killed, but they also gave me memories that I'll cherish forever. Maybe the upcoming full moon will be another one of those."

Luz smiled. "Yeah! It'll just be another chapter in our daring adventures together! Another epic victory for the history books! Heck, it could even make for a cool autobiography! I can see it now, Luz Noceda: Witch by Day, Wolf by Night! Wait, no, that doesn't make sense. I can transform at any time of day or night."

Amity rolled her eyes and giggled. "You're such a dork. Come here."

The couple embraced in a loving kiss. When they parted, they both smiled as they leaned their foreheads against each other.

"I love you, Amity." Luz said.

"I love you too, Wolfe."

"Wolfe?"

"Yeah, that's my new nickname for you I came up with. Do you like it?"

The human witch processed this for a moment before getting another dorky look on her face.

"Like it? I love it!" She shouted as she peppered her girlfriend with kisses, all while Amity was laughing hysterically.
